Good evening. for the news where you are. | :00:00. | :00:08.
Six people arrested in Birmingham in connection with Wednesday's | :00:09. | :00:11.
attack in Westminster have tonight been released without charge. | :00:12. | :00:15.
But a major police investigation is still continuing. | :00:16. | :00:19.
Last night, the Metropolitan Police say they made another "significant | :00:20. | :00:22.
Another address, another police search. | :00:23. | :00:29.
This one in Hockley, in Birmingham, the third of three locations | :00:30. | :00:33.
in the city raided by armed officers on Wednesday night | :00:34. | :00:36.
They were like - get down, get down, it was really scary at the time | :00:37. | :00:42.
because you didn't know what was going on. | :00:43. | :00:44.
I looked outside, there were guns everywhere. | :00:45. | :00:45.
They were in my garden, over the fences, it was just crazy. | :00:46. | :00:48.
It was scary because it was right next door. | :00:49. | :00:51.
You don't know who you are living next door to. | :00:52. | :00:54.
A low loader turned out to remove three vehicles thought to belong | :00:55. | :00:57.
Someone thought the dad came from Saudi Arabia, | :00:58. | :01:01.
The man arrested had been living here for about a year | :01:02. | :01:07.
One neighbour told me he bumped into him in the park feeding | :01:08. | :01:13.
the birds on several occasions, he seemed | :01:14. | :01:16.
Another said he kept himself to himself. | :01:17. | :01:21.
Nobody has spoken to him, he is not that social. | :01:22. | :01:24.
All of a sudden he is arrested and apparently linked | :01:25. | :01:30.
A bit mad, a bit mad all on my doorstep. | :01:31. | :01:33.
A stone throw away is a property where it is thought | :01:34. | :01:36.
described as significant, a total of eight people have now | :01:37. | :01:42.
For those who spent years working to prevent extremism, it is a blow. | :01:43. | :01:56.
I think we've been moving in the right direction, | :01:57. | :01:58.
although this individual has clearly set us back with the level | :01:59. | :02:00.
of the attack and audacity of it where we have seen a number | :02:01. | :02:03.
of people killed and injured and a police officer stabbed | :02:04. | :02:06.
Questions remain, was Khalid Masood acting alone or were others | :02:07. | :02:09.
In the search for answers this city remains the focus. | :02:10. | :02:16.
Our reporter Kathryn Stanczyszyn is in Birmingham city | :02:17. | :02:18.
What more can you tell us, Kathryn, about those arrested | :02:19. | :02:24.
Well, what we do know is that all six of those told the night that | :02:25. | :02:38.
they are free to go with no further action being taken over Wednesday's | :02:39. | :02:42.
attack had been arrested in Birmingham. They include a | :02:43. | :02:46.
21-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man arrested at one address, also | :02:47. | :02:51.
four other people in their 20s picked up a separate addresses in | :02:52. | :02:55.
Birmingham, a woman and three men. All of those are now out of custody. | :02:56. | :03:02.
Four others remain in police custody pending further enquiries, two of | :03:03. | :03:06.
them from Birmingham, a 58-year-old man and a 27-year-old man who was | :03:07. | :03:10.
arrested late yesterday. The other two still in custody are from the | :03:11. | :03:14.
Manchester area. West Midlands Police have released a statement | :03:15. | :03:17.
tonight saying that all six fully cooperated with officers working on | :03:18. | :03:22.
the investigation. Assistant Chief Constable Marks Beale said they are | :03:23. | :03:28.
very appreciative of their cooperation and support. -- Marcus | :03:29. | :03:29.
Beale. Thank you. A team of scientists in Birmingham | :03:30. | :03:31.
and Oxford have made a major breakthrough in the treatment | :03:32. | :03:34.
and diagnosis of tuberculosis. Using genome sequencing, | :03:35. | :03:36.
they're able to isolate different strains of TB much more quickly, | :03:37. | :03:38.
which means patients The X-ray on the left | :03:39. | :03:40.
shows a healthy chest. On the right, the latter | :03:41. | :03:51.
stages of tuberculosis. 100 years ago recuperation | :03:52. | :03:53.
meant rest and fresh air. Then as technology advanced | :03:54. | :03:55.
came more breakthroughs. The latest scientific step towards | :03:56. | :03:58.
the detection of tuberculosis By the 1970s TB rates in the UK | :03:59. | :04:02.
were at an all-time low, but as drug resistance grew, | :04:03. | :04:07.
the killer disease came back. Now scientists in Oxford | :04:08. | :04:12.
and here in Birmingham have made In a world first they've used | :04:13. | :04:14.
genome sequencing to give a more precise diagnosis, | :04:15. | :04:20.
far more quickly. Well, this is the machine | :04:21. | :04:22.
where all the really interesting 15 samples go in here | :04:23. | :04:25.
and for the next 25 hours it works out the DNA scores of each | :04:26. | :04:29.
of those examples. Patients will ultimately get better | :04:30. | :04:34.
treatment because it means that the doctors will get those | :04:35. | :04:37.
results and know the individual We are now using one single test | :04:38. | :04:39.
which gives us all the information on the identity of the organism, | :04:40. | :04:45.
saying is this TB or some other microbacteria, | :04:46. | :04:51.
what are the drug resistance mutations, so what treatment can | :04:52. | :04:54.
we use and is this related to other strains and should we be looking | :04:55. | :04:57.
for a transmission network, to intervene | :04:58. | :04:59.
and prevent further spread? Genome sequencing could be used | :05:00. | :05:03.
to treat other diseases with massive Most importantly it'll save lives | :05:04. | :05:07.
and if we can show that using the most modern technology can | :05:08. | :05:13.
help reduce the time it takes to identify who's got TB, | :05:14. | :05:18.
get them on to a treatment programme, then we can move closer | :05:19. | :05:20.
to what we all want, which is to eradicate TB | :05:21. | :05:26.
from the shores of the country. Instead of spending months | :05:27. | :05:28.
in hospital, patients with complex drug resistant cases of TB have been | :05:29. | :05:31.
sent home after just a week, with a much better chance | :05:32. | :05:34.
of long-term survival. A banned driver involved | :05:35. | :05:43.
in a high-speed chase through Coventry has been jailed | :05:44. | :05:45.
for 12 months and disqualified Tony Berrill ran red | :05:46. | :05:47.
lights and performed dangerous overtaking moves, | :05:48. | :05:51.
as he careered through the city At one point, officers were forced | :05:52. | :05:54.
to abandon their pursuit for fear On to rugby, and Gloucester began | :05:55. | :05:58.
life in the Premiership without head coach Laurie Fisher | :05:59. | :06:04.
with a bonus-point win The Cherry and Whites | :06:05. | :06:07.
ran in four tries. The pick of them coming | :06:08. | :06:11.
right at the death. Jonny May running the length of | :06:12. | :06:15.
the pitch to secure maximum points. The result will be welcomed | :06:16. | :06:18.
by Bristol's relegation rivals Worcester, who take on Wasps | :06:19. | :06:20.
at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday. I'll leave you with | :06:21. | :06:26.
the weather from Rebecca. As we head through this weekend, | :06:27. | :06:30.
we are actually losing an hour. The clocks going forward | :06:31. | :06:37.
as British summertime starts. And it is looking particularly | :06:38. | :06:39.
summery as we head Temperatures recovering although | :06:40. | :06:42.
overnight it is going to be chilly. But dry and bright and lots | :06:43. | :06:46.
of sunshine to come. For tonight without the crowd | :06:47. | :06:49.
to keep our temperatures up, we are going to see | :06:50. | :06:52.
them falling away. We could see a touch | :06:53. | :06:54.
of frost particularly We will see our temperatures ranging | :06:55. | :06:56.
between one and three Celsius. But high pressure dominating our | :06:57. | :07:02.
weather for this weekend. The winds dropping out | :07:03. | :07:07.
through the day tomorrow. And it's going to be | :07:08. | :07:10.
a fine and dry start. Lots of lovely sunshine as we head | :07:11. | :07:12.
through the morning. A little bit of fairweather | :07:13. | :07:15.
cloud by the afternoon. Our temperatures back up | :07:16. | :07:17.
into double figures. We may get 15 or 16 | :07:18. | :07:19.
Celsius somewhere. There is more information on that | :07:20. | :07:23.
in the national forecast. I will leave you with an outlook | :07:24. | :07:25.
for the next few days. weather outlook for the whole of the | :07:26. | :07:36.
Good evening. It is good news on the weather front for most of the UK. We | :07:37. | :07:47.
have been forecasting fine weather for a few days. It has certainly | :07:48. | :07:52.
arrived. Beautiful picture today. The skies are clearing across the | :07:53. | :07:59.
UK. Temperatures are falling as well. Pretty nippy. Already a frost | :08:00. | :08:00. |
