station this weekend, as work begins to modernise it ahead
It's meant many visitors to the city have had to get there via bus,
and there'll be further disruption over Easter, as Liz Beacon reports.
Plans to electrify the line from Bristol to London have
been heavily delayed, and have run nearly ?2
For now, work on the section to Bristol has been put on hold.
But Network Rail is committed to electrification
The advantages long-term to the works - obviously we're
improving the environment within the station,
but being sympathetic to the existing heritage issues
associated with the station, with it being a Brunel-designed
And also the rail infrastructure will be improved, and also we'll be
So, for the next fortnight there'll be plenty going on here -
widening and lengethining platforms ready for new trains.
And then there'll more work in the surrounding area.
Working out when to cause the least disruption is what's problematic.
We did know ahead of time it was going to happen.
I was a bit surprised that it was happening now,
But, yeah, we'll just see what happens, and enjoy a bit of a bus.
It'll allow people to travel more quickly in the long term,
Well, it's been very quiet here today.
And next weekend there'll be a similar picture,
because being the Easter weekend, there'll be no services
But during the working week, things do get a little bit
more back to normal, with a reduced service in operation.
And all these signs lay the changes out very clearly.

After a lovely day for many of us, cloud has been thickening.
And that continues to push its way in at times for tonight,
and could lead to a few spots of rain or drizzle perhaps
But temperatures don't fall away too far - 8 or 9 degrees.
You might see a spot of rain first thing tomorrow.
But in general, that should tend to clear through.
We have got some more sunshine to come, although there will be more

Good evening. Was it spring or summer today? They crushed and some
of you may have been asking. A beautiful day across much of eastern
and south-eastern England. We saw highs of 25 degrees. Slightly
fresher in the north-west of England, and much fresher behind the
rain bearing weather front in the far north-west. As the front pushes
south, it will weaken. We will not see rain, but it introduces cooler
air behind. The showers overnight in Scotland will fall as sleet and
snow. It will be a cold start first
