Tonight investigations into the mystery illness

:00:00.:00:00.

Tests are being carried out on water and air quality as some people

:00:07.:00:11.

claim a nearby slurry pit is affecting their health

:00:12.:00:15.

Also tonight major changes for the region's Royal Marines

:00:16.:00:21.

They'll be part of a new unit to protect our coastline; more

than 100 personnel from Scotland will join them.

testing a variety of possibilities. Later this month, the authorities

:03:12.:03:13.

will be meeting about the situation. The Ministry of Defence has

:03:14.:03:18.

confirmed that Royal Marines from Plymouth will be part

of a new anti terror unit to combat the threat to ships and ports

exercise, but the MoD says no Royal Marines

:04:34.:04:38.

will be made redundant with roles

:04:39.:04:40.

being reallocated across the Navy. This would seem to fit

:04:41.:04:44.

in with those plans. The new unit is likely to be based

regional Sunday papers. In its heyday the paper

:06:20.:06:28.

long and very stressful. Can you say particularly

:06:29.:06:31.

what it is about this newspaper that you think makes it worth picking up

:06:32.:06:34.

and resurrecting, when presumably one might not make that judgment

about many a newspaper that might And we all like to see

about their circulation, which they say is about

12,000 copies weekly. We certainly are confident

:07:05.:07:09.

in saying that we actually expect to increase that,

:07:10.:07:11.

although the focus has been on the decline of circulation

:07:12.:07:14.

of print papers, but as I say, particularly in the specialist

sports area, some papers are No promises, but we

:07:18.:07:19.

are pretty confident. In its 20th century heyday,

look like hide and seek, but some of the dogs here will be on stand-by

during the Ten Tors event in May. It is a vital ingredient to the whole

:09:04.:09:10.

event. If the weather turns nasty, that is when they really come into

:09:11.:09:14.

their own. Not all call-outs have a happy ending. Last August, the dog

:09:15.:09:24.

found divers help find a body in a river. They should be able to put

:09:25.:09:27.

the dog anywhere that they want to in an area so that if the dog is

:09:28.:09:31.

going to the left and you want to the right, can push the dog away two

:09:32.:09:38.

300 yards. They pretend casualties were camouflaged so the dogs use

:09:39.:09:44.

their noses. Strength of a wind can be the difference between a dog

:09:45.:09:49.

finding the person coming back empty-handed. On a calm day like

:09:50.:09:54.

today, the search is more challenging because the human scent

:09:55.:09:58.

when travel so far. Rain or shine, this dog and other dogs save time

:09:59.:10:03.

for rescuers and when somebody is missing on the moor, the clock is

:10:04.:10:08.

really ticking. He certainly knows how to tell his handler how he has

:10:09.:10:15.

found something, doesn't the? A very clever dog.

:10:16.:10:17.

The gardens of a stately home near Truro will open this

:10:18.:10:20.

weekend in aid of a charity which supports homeless people.

:10:21.:10:22.

Tregothnan Gardens are privately owned and the huge collection

:10:23.:10:24.

of Rhododendrons, Magnolias and Camellias only open

:10:25.:10:26.

The Saint Petrocs Society has been struggling but it stands to gain

:10:27.:10:30.

tens of thousands of pounds from the opening.

:10:31.:10:32.

Spotlights David George met up with the charity's boss

:10:33.:10:35.

The Tregothnan estate has been in the Boscawen family

:10:36.:10:41.

Thousands of plants have been brought here

:10:42.:10:44.

These days, it is well known for its tea plantation,

:10:45.:10:54.

but this weekend the 100 acres of garden and parkland

:10:55.:10:56.

We know the timing of the UK's largest garden opening

:10:57.:11:00.

is about right when these petals start to fall down onto the pathway,

:11:01.:11:03.

so that hopefully thousands of visitors this weekend can come

:11:04.:11:06.

and enjoy one of nature's real spectacles of natural petals landing

:11:07.:11:10.

on the pathway and making a real scene in the middle of spring.

:11:11.:11:13.

Tregothnan's staff have been preparing for months,

:11:14.:11:15.

many including the gardening team volunteer to help out

:11:16.:11:18.

It is absolutely fantastic, to be honest, it is my proudest

:11:19.:11:23.

To see 5,000 people enjoy what we do, I am so proud.

:11:24.:11:30.

Open days here have raised thousands for charity.

:11:31.:11:35.

They plan to beat last year's record, ?40,000.

:11:36.:11:38.

Everyone knows that there have been continual problems

:11:39.:11:48.

with homelessness in Cornwall, but with that kind of money

:11:49.:11:51.

we would make sure that all our services would be open,

:11:52.:11:53.

fully operational and it would mean that nobody is likely to die

:11:54.:11:56.

Amongst the magnificent plants in this vast garden is this beauty.

:11:57.:12:00.

It is amazing to think that this is all one huge plant.

:12:01.:12:09.

It is about the size of a decent-sized house,

:12:10.:12:11.

It's the world's largest rhododendron.

:12:12.:12:20.

The London marathon is on this weekend and tens of thousands

:12:21.:12:23.

There are as many reasons for running the marathon

:12:24.:12:27.

We have been to meet three people from the region who will be tackling

:12:28.:12:32.

We wanted to find out why they are running,

:12:33.:12:35.

And what they will have on their headphones to help them

:12:36.:12:39.

I did it for a charity that is close to my heart.

:12:40.:12:47.

My daughter got diagnosed with type one diabetes.

:12:48.:12:51.

We got told that if we took her in, 24 hours later, they wouldn't have

:12:52.:12:54.

I am running in memory of my parents for a disability charity.

:12:55.:13:10.

Because when I was little, my parents and I used

:13:11.:13:15.

I am running in aid of the Cornwall air ambulance.

:13:16.:13:31.

I can't basically go and do some crazy stuff that other

:13:32.:13:45.

people do to raise money, so for me the easiest way

:13:46.:13:47.

Given its geography and it has got just one main hospital,

:13:48.:14:04.

getting to hospital in a quick time is essential in an emergency.

:14:05.:14:07.

The ambulance is essential for people living, working

:14:08.:14:09.

My parents are no longer with me and they would be incredibly

:14:10.:14:16.

surprised and incredibly proud, not only that I am running

:14:17.:14:18.

a marathon, but also that I am choosing to run for the charity.

:14:19.:14:21.

My favourite song is The Eye Of The Tiger.

:14:22.:14:25.

It is a case of mind over matter and all of those messages of good

:14:26.:14:29.

wishes and all those personal struggles are there

:14:30.:14:31.

Especially the crowd in London who are fantastic.

:14:32.:14:35.

I'm going to get a lot of stick of my mates for this,

:14:36.:14:39.

I don't know why that is so good to run to, but it is.

:14:40.:14:52.

Everybody Needs Love And Affection, everybody has to need friends.

:14:53.:15:10.

# The things that dreams are made of #.

:15:11.:15:13.

And that is kind of what it is, really.

:15:14.:15:15.

That is kind of running the London Marathon.

:15:16.:15:19.

Good luck to them and everybody running the marathon this weekend.

:15:20.:15:23.

Time for the sport now and Andy's here.

:15:24.:15:25.

It's not just the charity runners we'll be looking out for on Sunday.

:15:26.:15:28.

No, we'll also be keeping a close eye on the elite race as Jo Pavey

:15:29.:15:32.

tries to qualify for this summer's World Championships in London.

:15:33.:15:34.

The 43-year-old needs to finish as one of the top two British women

:15:35.:15:37.

Devon boxer Tommy Langford could realise a childhood dream

:15:38.:15:48.

tomorrow night when he fights for the WBO interim

:15:49.:15:50.

The British middleweight champion is putting his unbeaten record

:15:51.:15:58.

on the line against a Georgian nicknamed the mini-Mike Tyson.

:15:59.:16:02.

The boy from Bideford moved to Birmingham nearly a decade ago

:16:03.:16:05.

to pursue a boxing career and that's where we caught up with him.

:16:06.:16:08.

I have never ducked a fight in my life.

:16:09.:16:14.

We are fighting somebody who nobody else wanted to fight.

:16:15.:16:19.

That is not me saying it, or Tom, it is out there.

:16:20.:16:24.

The WBO, he has been the number one for I don't know how long.

:16:25.:16:28.

Yes, he's a horrible opponent, he's tough, he's very strong.

:16:29.:16:30.

He's highly avoided by all the top operators.

:16:31.:16:35.

But ultimately, beating him puts me on a platform of those operators

:16:36.:16:39.

and gives me the chance to fight the elite.

:16:40.:16:44.

Tom's getting a lot of praise, a lot of publicity, a lot of fans,.

:16:45.:16:47.

For something that he has been doing for years and years and years.

:16:48.:16:53.

Privately, in dark gyms, cold rooms, so the reward is now as such.

:16:54.:16:57.

It has been going a long time and he is ready.

:16:58.:17:05.

We have got a lot of following from North Devon and people travel

:17:06.:17:08.

all the way up and it is a bit of a jaunt for this one,

:17:09.:17:11.

but they are still coming and in the numbers.

:17:12.:17:13.

They have not got a boxer from down there ready,

:17:14.:17:19.

They all show a huge amount of support and when I get to go

:17:20.:17:26.

and celebrate with them, that is always good, as well.

:17:27.:17:29.

He had a dream as a child, a young kid, and note

:17:30.:17:42.

to Devon, the opportunities in Birmingham, the Midlands,

:17:43.:17:46.

He has got a selfish streak in him to get where he wants to get to.

:17:47.:17:51.

That move so early in his career has put him here.

:17:52.:17:54.

There is no point does working away at the rankings and getting

:17:55.:17:56.

to the top and then when you get to the top, not wanting

:17:57.:18:00.

I have got this chance and I will grab it with both hands

:18:01.:18:04.

It is what I want and what my career needs.

:18:05.:18:08.

With the pressure now off after their promotion

:18:09.:18:11.

was confirmed on Monday, Plymouth Argyle have their

:18:12.:18:13.

sights set on winning the League Two title.

:18:14.:18:14.

For Exeter City though, the aim is Wembley.

:18:15.:18:16.

A win against Morecambe tomorrow will do their

:18:17.:18:18.

promotion hopes no harm - as it stands there are still

:18:19.:18:21.

at least ten clubs in with a chance of making the play-offs.

:18:22.:18:24.

There are only two games left for Torquay to beat the drop

:18:25.:18:27.

As long as they avoid defeat at Dover they can't be

:18:28.:18:30.

relegated this weekend - a win could lift them

:18:31.:18:33.

You can follow all the drama as it unfolds on the BBC

:18:34.:18:37.

It's a winner takes all match for Plymouth Albion Ladies tomorrow

:18:38.:18:40.

as they chase promotion to the second tier of women's rugby,

:18:41.:18:43.

Albion go into the game with their opponents just two points behind.

:18:44.:18:52.

Really confident, however you can never

:18:53.:18:54.

I do think it is going to be close on the day and playing at the Wreck,

:18:55.:19:05.

some people might be nervous we haven't played in

:19:06.:19:07.

Bath might have a lot of supporters there,

:19:08.:19:10.

so that might have an affect on our team, but I'm ready confident

:19:11.:19:13.

Somerset have made a great start to their County Championship

:19:14.:19:17.

match against Lancashire at Old Trafford today.

:19:18.:19:19.

The bowlers did their job skittling the home side for just 109

:19:20.:19:21.

with Craig Overton the pick of the bowlers taking five wickets.

:19:22.:19:24.

In reply Somerset were 93-4 at the close of play on Day One.

:19:25.:19:31.

From the very best Michelin-starred chefs to international food

:19:32.:19:33.

celebrities, the creme de la creme of the foodie world will be

:19:34.:19:36.

cooking live at this year's Porthleven Food Festival.

:19:37.:19:38.

Well, taking his opportunity to sample some tempting delights

:19:39.:19:40.

and with news of other events over the weekend here's David White.

:19:41.:19:51.

Yes. I think I have got probably the best location here this week. This

:19:52.:19:59.

is Porthleven harbour, home of the Porthleven food festival. This

:20:00.:20:05.

usually, can I just pinch a chip? Not only chips, but lots of great

:20:06.:20:09.

food here. Can I quickly show you the bridge that has been put up? You

:20:10.:20:12.

can have a tour of your harbour eating your way around. Do one big

:20:13.:20:17.

Circle. This is one of the chefs involved here. This is Jude. How

:20:18.:20:22.

dumb are what is happening over the next few days? Animating festival.

:20:23.:20:31.

Chef demos, great stores. Food tents. -- and amazing. Kids tent,

:20:32.:20:37.

literary tent. Something for everybody. You and Anthony Worrall

:20:38.:20:45.

Thompson going to be having a bake off. We have got a lot going on down

:20:46.:20:49.

here. That look at some other events going around the region. Down here

:20:50.:20:53.

in Cornwall, there is a special event which is taking place over the

:20:54.:21:00.

weekend which is the start of the sea songs and shanty Festival. That

:21:01.:21:10.

will be at 730. On Sunday, there is a shout down on the beach. In Devon,

:21:11.:21:15.

grab your boots for the walking Festival. That continues to the

:21:16.:21:21.

weekend. The walks are free, towns tourist information centre. A

:21:22.:21:28.

meditation walk also. In Plymouth, one of the largest wooden tall ships

:21:29.:21:35.

against its two weeks visit to Sutton Harbour. Also a cider

:21:36.:21:42.

Festival. ?6 a ticket. In Somerset, International music at the

:21:43.:21:47.

Bridgwater arts Centre as they celebrate their twin towns.

:21:48.:21:50.

Including bands from Malta, Italy, France, Germany and the Czech

:21:51.:21:54.

Republic. Tomorrow, is record store Day. Head on down to your local

:21:55.:21:59.

record store and pick up some final if you are a collector like myself.

:22:00.:22:04.

This is Susie Mack, a BBC introducing artist. She will be

:22:05.:22:05.

playing as... Out later on. A trained coming our way as we had

:22:06.:22:21.

to the other side of the weekend but we hold onto the fine weather to the

:22:22.:22:26.

weekend ahead and some fantastic pictures of this weather. This is a

:22:27.:22:33.

lighthouse. Glorious blue skies and calm seas. Mist and fog around this

:22:34.:22:40.

morning. Some patchy cloud around spoiling that sunshine. The sun is

:22:41.:22:43.

bringing out the flowers and believes. This weekend, dry. Cloudy

:22:44.:22:49.

at times, also some sunshine. Of the two days of the weekend, Sunday

:22:50.:22:54.

looks like it will have the best of the sunshine. We have got some

:22:55.:22:59.

changes afoot as this weather for front travels down. More cloud today

:23:00.:23:05.

and tomorrow. Behind that, another one which is much more active. This

:23:06.:23:09.

one will trickle down across southern parts of Britain, not much

:23:10.:23:15.

left on it, but high pressure is moving back out into the Atlantic

:23:16.:23:18.

and that opens the door for a new area of low pressure to bring cold

:23:19.:23:24.

air across as. From the south of Iceland and moving down towards us.

:23:25.:23:29.

By Monday, the first of those weather fronts coming in. More cloud

:23:30.:23:35.

on Monday. If you shower is as well. Once that passes us, we have got

:23:36.:23:42.

Arctic air. The area of high pressure has moved to the middle of

:23:43.:23:45.

the Atlantic, northerly winds, some of which I was on Tuesday could well

:23:46.:23:52.

be wintry. A big change by the time we get to Tuesday of next week. It

:23:53.:23:56.

is that flood of cold air that will also bring the temperatures down. A

:23:57.:24:03.

touch of Frost perhaps. Daytime, no more than seven or 8 degrees. Let's

:24:04.:24:08.

make the most of the weekend ahead. A lot of clout as you can see.

:24:09.:24:12.

Drifting in from the north. Some holes in that crowd, particularly

:24:13.:24:16.

for Cornwall. Cornwall has been blessed with the best of the lakes

:24:17.:24:21.

lunchtime today. That process will continue overnight tonight. Patchy

:24:22.:24:29.

cloud of a figure in the EEC. -- particularly in the east. Patchy

:24:30.:24:34.

cloud. Summing up the day. A bit more of the breeze. Temperatures

:24:35.:24:41.

getting to 14 or 15 degrees. The forecast for the Isles of Scilly

:24:42.:24:50.

depends, should be around nine or 10 degrees getting to 13 degrees by the

:24:51.:24:58.

end of the morning. Silly, fine and dry. High water, 236 and 1510.

:24:59.:25:08.

Hardly any waves for our servers, although it does pick up a little

:25:09.:25:13.

bit. Coastal waters forecast, winds will be variable. Generally, fair.

:25:14.:25:17.

Have a nice weekend. Back to you. But before we go we can cross back

:25:18.:25:20.

to Porthleven where a number of local musicians will be

:25:21.:25:25.

entertaining the crowds One of them Suzie Mac,

:25:26.:25:26.

will sing us out now # Rises with the dawn, didn't want

:25:27.:25:53.

to say goodbye before it was gone. # The car is gone, long before the

:25:54.:26:02.

years have gone. # All alone.

:26:03.:26:08.

# Wishing he could just turn around and head back home.

:26:09.:26:20.

# City drifter. # Looks like you and me. City

:26:21.:26:24.

drifter. # Looks like you and me.

:26:25.:26:32.

# Looks like you and me. Why didn't we go

:26:33.:26:54.

to the library today? Because we don't have

:26:55.:27:00.

a library any more. Why? The school's had to make big cuts.

:27:01.:27:03.

Cuts like with a knife, miss? No, it means that the school

:27:04.:27:10.

can't afford to pay for things like the library any more or shows

:27:11.:27:14.

or books or school visits. CHILDREN: Awww!

:27:15.:27:19.

No more school visits?

:27:20.:27:24.
