Hello there. Time for our update on the prospects for the week ahead

0:00:030:00:06

and beyond, to the end of the month.

0:00:060:00:08

There are the first indications that we might begin to see

0:00:080:00:10

a change in the weather after what's been a pretty warm July so far.

0:00:100:00:14

And a warm day to come on Wednesday.

0:00:140:00:16

Maybe the odd early shower across Eastern England

0:00:160:00:18

and then a greater chance of the odd isolated downpour further West,

0:00:180:00:22

across parts of Southern England and South Wales through the afternoon.

0:00:220:00:25

But, still, just the odd blob of blue,

0:00:250:00:27

so the vast majority of us will avoid the showers entirely

0:00:270:00:30

and enjoy plenty more of the very warm sunshine,

0:00:300:00:32

with temperatures up into the mid-to-high 20s quite widely.

0:00:320:00:36

Now, on Tuesday, there was the odd shower across Northern Ireland

0:00:360:00:39

I think it will be dry on Wednesday

0:00:390:00:41

and temperatures again will respond very nicely.

0:00:410:00:43

A very pleasant day to come,

0:00:430:00:45

as it will be across the bulk of Scotland as well.

0:00:450:00:47

Always the risk of some sea mist across the far Northeast,

0:00:470:00:50

into the Northern Isles.

0:00:500:00:52

But most inland areas will have a fine day

0:00:520:00:56

starting later on in the evening.

0:00:560:00:58

A fine day to come also

0:00:580:00:59

across the bulk of Central and Southern England

0:00:590:01:01

but, yes, that risk of some downpours.

0:01:010:01:03

Isolated downpours, but they will be quite slow-moving,

0:01:030:01:06

across some Southern counties of England.

0:01:060:01:08

And they'll carry on into the evening before they drift away overnight.

0:01:080:01:11

And then, for most of us, it'll be another dry night out there.

0:01:110:01:15

Some of that low cloud and mist

0:01:150:01:16

will drift back in off the North Sea

0:01:160:01:18

into some Central and Eastern parts of England by morning,

0:01:180:01:20

another quite muggy night to come. As we come into Thursday morning,

0:01:200:01:23

temperatures will be around about the mid-teens

0:01:230:01:25

in the larger towns and cities.

0:01:250:01:27

Another warm day to come with some pretty hot air

0:01:270:01:30

continuing to flow in off the near continent.

0:01:300:01:33

We'll have to keep an eye on this weather front

0:01:330:01:35

but, for the most part again on Thursday, it will be a dry day.

0:01:350:01:41

the sun should break through

0:01:410:01:43

and most of us will settle into a fine afternoon.

0:01:430:01:45

Again, the odd shower breaking out

0:01:450:01:47

in response to some pretty high temperatures

0:01:470:01:49

across the heart of England and Wales

0:01:490:01:51

and they could well be very heavy and slow-moving.

0:01:510:01:53

But nearly all of us will avoid these.

0:01:530:01:55

Again, mid-to-high 20s typically

0:01:550:01:57

but cooler along those North Sea coasts once more.

0:01:570:02:01

Looking ahead towards the end of the week, then.

0:02:010:02:04

No great changes at this stage.

0:02:040:02:06

The high pressure is beginning to ease away Northwards,

0:02:060:02:08

so the pressure slowly beginning to fall.

0:02:080:02:11

But, for most places again,

0:02:110:02:13

it will be a dry day with a lot of sunshine

0:02:130:02:15

after what will be a rather cloudy start in some places.

0:02:150:02:19

Still very warm, up into the mid-to-high 20s

0:02:190:02:21

and knocking on the door of 30 degrees in some spots.

0:02:210:02:24

We're getting used to this, aren't we?

0:02:240:02:26

As we hit the weekend, we have to keep an eye on this weather front

0:02:260:02:29

beginning to come down from the Northwest.

0:02:290:02:31

That could play an important role as we go through this weekend.

0:02:310:02:34

Initially, most places start off dry and fine

0:02:340:02:37

with, again, some very warm sunshine.

0:02:370:02:39

But that front will edge into parts of Northern Ireland

0:02:390:02:41

and Western Scotland, we think, bringing some outbreaks of rain

0:02:410:02:44

and some lower temperatures as well.

0:02:440:02:46

And that front will begin to slide its way further Southwards

0:02:460:02:49

as we go through Sunday.

0:02:490:02:50

Some showers on it but, again,

0:02:500:02:51

some very high temperatures still to the South of it.

0:02:510:02:54

Somewhat cooler to the North.

0:02:540:02:56

Now, we did think yesterday

0:02:560:02:58

that high pressure might begin to build in again

0:02:580:03:00

but it now looks more likely that the high will retreat Southwestwards,

0:03:000:03:04

with these West or Northwesterly winds beginning to push in

0:03:040:03:06

and those will be quite important

0:03:060:03:08

because they will displace the warm air.

0:03:080:03:10

It will hang on across Southern areas for a wee while longer

0:03:100:03:13

but the message is, through the early part of next week,

0:03:130:03:15

it'll start to cool down, we think.

0:03:150:03:17

Southern areas still mostly dry,

0:03:170:03:19

and some places do need some rain, I know.

0:03:190:03:21

But Northern areas turning rather more unsettled,

0:03:210:03:23

certainly cooler here, with some outbreaks of rain.

0:03:230:03:25

My colleague, Darren Bett,

0:03:250:03:27

will update you again as we go through tomorrow.
