Hello there. Time for our update on the prospects for the week ahead | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
and beyond, to the end of the month. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
There are the first indications that we might begin to see | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
a change in the weather after what's been a pretty warm July so far. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:14
And a warm day to come on Wednesday. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
Maybe the odd early shower across Eastern England | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
and then a greater chance of the odd isolated downpour further West, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:22
across parts of Southern England and South Wales through the afternoon. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
But, still, just the odd blob of blue, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
so the vast majority of us will avoid the showers entirely | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
and enjoy plenty more of the very warm sunshine, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
with temperatures up into the mid-to-high 20s quite widely. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:36
Now, on Tuesday, there was the odd shower across Northern Ireland | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
I think it will be dry on Wednesday | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
and temperatures again will respond very nicely. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
A very pleasant day to come, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
as it will be across the bulk of Scotland as well. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
Always the risk of some sea mist across the far Northeast, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
into the Northern Isles. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
But most inland areas will have a fine day | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
starting later on in the evening. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
A fine day to come also | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
across the bulk of Central and Southern England | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
but, yes, that risk of some downpours. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
Isolated downpours, but they will be quite slow-moving, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
across some Southern counties of England. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
And they'll carry on into the evening before they drift away overnight. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
And then, for most of us, it'll be another dry night out there. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
Some of that low cloud and mist | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
will drift back in off the North Sea | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
into some Central and Eastern parts of England by morning, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
another quite muggy night to come. As we come into Thursday morning, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
temperatures will be around about the mid-teens | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
in the larger towns and cities. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
Another warm day to come with some pretty hot air | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
continuing to flow in off the near continent. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
We'll have to keep an eye on this weather front | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
but, for the most part again on Thursday, it will be a dry day. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:41
the sun should break through | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
and most of us will settle into a fine afternoon. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
Again, the odd shower breaking out | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
in response to some pretty high temperatures | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
across the heart of England and Wales | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
and they could well be very heavy and slow-moving. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
But nearly all of us will avoid these. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
Again, mid-to-high 20s typically | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
but cooler along those North Sea coasts once more. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
Looking ahead towards the end of the week, then. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
No great changes at this stage. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
The high pressure is beginning to ease away Northwards, | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
so the pressure slowly beginning to fall. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
But, for most places again, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
it will be a dry day with a lot of sunshine | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
after what will be a rather cloudy start in some places. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:19
Still very warm, up into the mid-to-high 20s | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
and knocking on the door of 30 degrees in some spots. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
We're getting used to this, aren't we? | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
As we hit the weekend, we have to keep an eye on this weather front | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
beginning to come down from the Northwest. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
That could play an important role as we go through this weekend. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
Initially, most places start off dry and fine | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
with, again, some very warm sunshine. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
But that front will edge into parts of Northern Ireland | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
and Western Scotland, we think, bringing some outbreaks of rain | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
and some lower temperatures as well. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
And that front will begin to slide its way further Southwards | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
as we go through Sunday. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
Some showers on it but, again, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
some very high temperatures still to the South of it. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
Somewhat cooler to the North. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
Now, we did think yesterday | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
that high pressure might begin to build in again | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
but it now looks more likely that the high will retreat Southwestwards, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
with these West or Northwesterly winds beginning to push in | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
and those will be quite important | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
because they will displace the warm air. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
It will hang on across Southern areas for a wee while longer | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
but the message is, through the early part of next week, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
it'll start to cool down, we think. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Southern areas still mostly dry, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
and some places do need some rain, I know. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
But Northern areas turning rather more unsettled, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
certainly cooler here, with some outbreaks of rain. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
My colleague, Darren Bett, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
will update you again as we go through tomorrow. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
