Hello. There's some exceptional rainfall to come

for some in the short-term.

In the longer term, a change to colder weather on the horizon.

We'll get on to that in just a moment.

But first to the matter in hand and this conveyor belt of moisture

from across the Atlantic slamming into the Western hills of the UK

with rain totals continuing to mount, as is the concern.

North Wales, north-west England

into south-west Scotland in particular,

on the highest hills here with Met Office Amber "be prepared" warnings

in force seeing into the hundreds of millimetres in some spots.

That rain, then, feeding into rivers and feeding lower down

and that brings the potential for some significant flooding.

Keep across weather warnings and flood warnings

if you're in these areas. In fact, the Environment Agency

has already got several severe

flood warnings in force in Cumbria, Lancashire, for example, and that

means danger to life so a potentially serious situation

unfolding.

And the rain continues on through Sunday.

Stronger south-westerly winds,

so a risk of gales,

to the coastal south and west.

Yes, the wettest weather

will be in these Western hills,

wet too at times into Northern Ireland.

Elsewhere, plenty of cloud, little bit damp

and drizzly occasionally,

a milder day compared with Saturday.

Still chilly for some,

though, in the far north of Scotland.

Now this weather system finally moves away

as we go through Sunday night

but if only that was the end

of the wet weather this week.

More weather systems

are lining up in the Atlantic.

As that system clears, though,

the far north of Scotland could see

severe gales once again

going through Sunday night

and into Monday morning.

You're going to see some showers on Monday,

but there's some brighter skies for a time,

still pretty blustery,

but by the end of the day you can see

this next weather system showing its hand

down towards the south-west.

Looks like this will run very quickly

across parts of England and Wales

in particular late Monday.

As it moves away, the gap before

the next weather system isn't very big.

And notice it's still very windy

across the north-east of Scotland for a time.

So, on Tuesday a bit of a gap,

then the next weather system

brings in further rainfall,

quite strong winds on the southern flank

of that as well, with gales in places.

Northern Scotland is in the colder air.

You can see quite a split here

between that cold air to the north of the UK

and the very mild air still to the south.

So that system then clears away

and then we get another break,

but had the break isn't long enough

because we get another

low-pressure system

targeting us later on Wednesday.

So you can see these weather systems coming in.

The rain isn't going to last

as long as the one we have at the moment

but it's going to add to the rain totals

we're already seeing

and that prolongs

the risk of flooding even further.

So this weather system is still around

as we go into Thursday.

Still very windy around that,

still plenty of showers,

more prolonged wet weather perhaps

across parts of Scotland,

a trailing weather front

giving some outbreaks of rain

towards southern England

where still it is very mild,

still quite chilly in northern Scotland.

Now I mentioned a change to colder air and that looks like

it's going to happen at the end of the week and into next weekend.

The air around this low-pressure starts to drag something colder

from the north or north west and that cold air, as a result,

penetrates further south across the UK and as does the risk of getting

some snow showers further south too and potentially not just on hills.

Something we're certainly going to need to watch -

from rainfall to colder weather

and that's what's on the horizon.
