Hello, thanks for tuning in.

0:00:020:00:04

There's a lot happening on the weather front

0:00:040:00:06

over the next few days, but I must concentrate on the here and now,

0:00:060:00:08

because there is some very rough weather heading our way.

0:00:080:00:11

In fact, Storm Barney, named by the Met Office,

0:00:110:00:13

is brewing in the Atlantic. It's heading our way

0:00:130:00:15

and the wind gusts could topple some trees

0:00:150:00:17

during the course of Tuesday.

0:00:170:00:19

Let's see what's happening, then.

0:00:190:00:20

This is the satellite picture and Barney's here,

0:00:200:00:23

still thousands of miles away,

0:00:230:00:24

but it is heading in our direction

0:00:240:00:26

and it will affect the southern half of the UK,

0:00:260:00:28

particularly coastal areas, but also inland,

0:00:280:00:30

there'll be some very vicious gusts of wind as well,

0:00:300:00:33

but for the time being, we've got gale-force winds

0:00:330:00:36

across northern parts of Scotland,

0:00:360:00:38

60mph to possibly 70mph gusts for the next few hours.

0:00:380:00:41

This is just a snapshot.

0:00:410:00:42

Further south across the UK,

0:00:420:00:43

it's much calmer, but we have got

0:00:430:00:48

It's not going to last very long,

0:00:480:00:49

because by the time we get to early on Tuesday morning,

0:00:490:00:52

the early hours, it is actually going to dry out

0:00:520:00:54

and the winds will be light,

0:00:540:00:56

so it's the calm before the storm, before Barney.

0:00:560:00:58

Mild still, 12 degrees in the south,

0:00:580:01:00

but already colder in Scotland.

0:01:000:01:03

Tuesday morning's rush hour not actually looking too bad at all.

0:01:030:01:06

In fact, the winds will be light

0:01:060:01:08

across most parts of the country,

0:01:080:01:10

relatively mild still in the south,

0:01:100:01:13

but the rains just about starting to nudge into Wales.

0:01:130:01:19

not a bad start to the day,

0:01:190:01:20

that is for Glasgow and Edinburgh,

0:01:200:01:21

because across the Northern Isles here, still very windy,

0:01:210:01:24

still gale-force winds and some gusty showers.

0:01:240:01:27

Here's that area of low pressure. This is Barney.

0:01:270:01:29

It'll develop rapidly during the course of Tuesday

0:01:290:01:32

and it'll bring a swathe of perhaps a few hours of severe gale-force winds

0:01:320:01:36

across the southern half of the UK.

0:01:360:01:38

So here's the morning onwards.

0:01:380:01:40

First the rain arrives with strengthening winds,

0:01:400:01:43

but the strongest of the winds,

0:01:430:01:44

with those really pounding gusts,

0:01:440:01:46

will be towards the south of Barney,

0:01:460:01:48

so the centre of the lows here,

0:01:480:01:49

but the gales will be to the south.

0:01:490:01:51

Quite a mild day in London.

0:01:510:01:53

17 degrees, Cardiff too,

0:01:530:01:55

but that will be offset by the strengthening wind.

0:01:550:01:57

Colder already there in Scotland.

0:01:570:01:59

But let's take a look at those really strong gusts of wind,

0:01:590:02:02

because it's been a while since we've had

0:02:020:02:04

gales across the south of the UK.

0:02:040:02:05

Up to 80mph gusts.

0:02:050:02:07

That's really strong around the coasts and exposed areas of the south

0:02:070:02:11

and the south-west, but even inland,

0:02:110:02:13

we could see gusts of 60-70mph.

0:02:130:02:15

That, as I said, could topple some trees,

0:02:150:02:17

there could be some power cuts here and there

0:02:170:02:20

and some disruption to transport,

0:02:200:02:22

some delays, so factor that in

0:02:220:02:24

if you're travelling during the course of Tuesday evening.

0:02:240:02:27

Wednesday a much quieter day, but still very windy.

0:02:270:02:29

Again, across Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:02:290:02:32

gale-force winds with some rain.

0:02:320:02:34

By the time we get to Thursday,

0:02:340:02:35

a change starts to happen across the northern part of the UK.

0:02:350:02:38

You can see the winds are starting to come in from the north

0:02:380:02:41

and that means colder air oozing down.

0:02:410:02:43

Those temperatures will start to drop.

0:02:430:02:45

Still relatively mild in the south

0:02:450:02:47

and it could be relatively mild still on Friday,

0:02:470:02:49

but you can see, even across northern England,

0:02:490:02:51

back down to single figures by the time we get to Friday,

0:02:510:02:55

so there are changes on the way.

0:02:550:02:56

Let's see what's happening

0:02:560:02:58

during the course of the weekend.

0:02:580:03:00

The mild air that's been sitting over us

0:03:000:03:02

for a very long time now eventually gets pushed away

0:03:020:03:04

and we get that colder air

0:03:040:03:06

coming in from the north,

0:03:060:03:07

so temperatures will start

0:03:070:03:09

to recover at least to average

0:03:090:03:11

and then to below average as we head

0:03:110:03:13

into the weekend and the next week.

0:03:130:03:15

Let's summarise all of that -

0:03:150:03:17

the weekend and into next week, it's turning colder, less windy

0:03:170:03:20

and there could be some wintry showers,

0:03:200:03:23

particularly across Scottish hills,

0:03:230:03:25

down into the Pennines as well.

0:03:250:03:27

That's it. Thanks for watching.

0:03:270:03:29

The way in which we create

0:03:310:03:32

and consume food is changing faster than ever.

0:03:320:03:35

A seemingly sci-fi future is actually a reality.
