Hello. How long will this warm weather last?

0:00:020:00:04

Well, as always, it does depend on where you live.

0:00:040:00:07

There will be some more warm sunshine over the next few days,

0:00:070:00:10

but by next weekend, pretty much all of us

0:00:100:00:12

will be significantly cooler.

0:00:120:00:14

These are the values we saw on Sunday, widely over 20 Celsius,

0:00:140:00:17

27 in the capital, highest temperature recorded

0:00:170:00:19

in the UK since last August.

0:00:190:00:21

Next weekend will be at or actually a touch below

0:00:210:00:25

the average maximum temperatures for May.

0:00:250:00:28

It is going to feel an awful lot cooler.

0:00:280:00:31

Why so warm at the moment?

0:00:310:00:31

Simply because we're drawing our air up from the Mediterranean.

0:00:310:00:34

South-easterly winds created by a swirl

0:00:340:00:38

out to the west of Iberia.

0:00:380:00:39

This area of low pressure

0:00:390:00:40

has brought a cool and showery weekend

0:00:400:00:42

through Spain and Portugal,

0:00:420:00:43

and it's just nudging a little closer,

0:00:430:00:46

meaning this weather front creeping its way in -

0:00:460:00:48

the start of the change.

0:00:480:00:50

Certainly, on Monday, it'll be much cooler

0:00:500:00:52

across the south-west under that weather front,

0:00:520:00:54

bringing some showers,

0:00:540:00:55

some of which could be on the heavy side.

0:00:550:00:57

Some of those showers for South Wales

0:00:570:00:59

and, particularly later in the day,

0:00:590:01:00

across south-east England. Elsewhere, though, for most,

0:01:000:01:03

another cracking day with plenty of sunshine.

0:01:030:01:05

Still a brisk easterly wind,

0:01:050:01:06

which means those North Sea coasts

0:01:060:01:08

could be a little misty

0:01:080:01:09

and certainly will again be on the cool side.

0:01:090:01:11

But it means, to the west,

0:01:110:01:12

temperatures could reach 25 degrees

0:01:120:01:14

in the Highlands of Scotland.

0:01:140:01:16

As I said, quite a bit cooler across the south-west

0:01:160:01:18

from that weather front,

0:01:180:01:19

which is still the dominant feature during Tuesday.

0:01:190:01:22

It gets a bit of a kick during Tuesday,

0:01:220:01:25

as this low pressure system

0:01:250:01:26

just gives it a bit of a bump.

0:01:260:01:28

It means that the rain

0:01:280:01:29

could be pretty intense in some places on Tuesday.

0:01:290:01:32

That's something we'll need to watch

0:01:320:01:33

as it spins its way across southern parts of the UK.

0:01:330:01:35

A few showers in northern England,

0:01:350:01:37

but much of northern Britain dry and fine

0:01:370:01:39

and, again, pretty warm over the Highlands, 23 degrees.

0:01:390:01:42

Elsewhere, I think most of us

0:01:420:01:43

will be back into the teens,

0:01:430:01:45

but for many, that's still above average

0:01:450:01:47

for the time of the year.

0:01:470:01:48

That weather front then becomes the question mark

0:01:480:01:50

during the middle of the week -

0:01:500:01:52

just how far north is it going to get?

0:01:520:01:53

It's all very slow moving, so it does make

0:01:530:01:55

a big difference if you're stuck under that rain band.

0:01:550:01:58

Some places just have a very wet day.

0:01:580:02:00

To the south of it, there will be some heavy showers,

0:02:000:02:03

but there could also be some brightness

0:02:030:02:04

and still warm air, so temperatures, with a bit of sun,

0:02:040:02:07

could get back over 20 Celsius.

0:02:070:02:09

Still pretty warm across the south of Scotland

0:02:090:02:11

and Northern Ireland,

0:02:110:02:12

but obviously, a lot cooler again on the east coast

0:02:120:02:14

and stuck under that weather front.

0:02:140:02:16

More of a general change through midweek.

0:02:160:02:18

Low pressure systems

0:02:180:02:19

starting to move up across Central Europe

0:02:190:02:21

and that just tilts the isobars,

0:02:210:02:23

which means the winds are no longer,

0:02:230:02:25

by Thursday, coming from the south-east,

0:02:250:02:27

more coming from the north-east,

0:02:270:02:29

and that has a big impact.

0:02:290:02:31

Again, a lot of dry weather across northern Britain,

0:02:310:02:33

but it will be feeling cooler as those winds turn

0:02:330:02:36

from a north-easterly to more of a northerly,

0:02:360:02:38

bringing down colder air for the end of the week.

0:02:380:02:41

Not as cold as it was a week or so ago,

0:02:410:02:45

but it will still be noticeable,

0:02:450:02:48

as we go towards Friday and the weekend,

0:02:480:02:50

with those temperatures back closer to

0:02:500:02:52

or even, in some places,

0:02:520:02:53

below average for the time of year.

0:02:530:02:54

Sprinkling of showers across the south,

0:02:540:02:56

but for many, it will be dry and, as high pressure continues to topple in

0:02:560:02:59

through next weekend, the early part of the following week,

0:02:590:03:02

there will be still a lot of dry and bright weather to be had.

0:03:020:03:04

But follow the isobars pointing due north,

0:03:040:03:06

so bringing down pretty chilly air through next weekend and beyond.

0:03:060:03:12

Temperatures much lower than they have been this weekend.

0:03:120:03:15

A little below average for the time of year.

0:03:150:03:17

There'll be plenty of sunshine around, but there will still also be

0:03:170:03:20

a sprinkling of showers.

0:03:200:03:21

We'll continue to monitor it and keep you updated.

0:03:210:03:24
