Hello. First, let's take stock of what's happened

0:00:030:00:06

so far this June, because it's been quite an interesting

0:00:060:00:08

month as far as the stats are concerned.

0:00:080:00:10

It's been a month dominated by easterly winds.

0:00:100:00:12

That's affected the temperatures.

0:00:120:00:13

Blue colours on this Met Office chart show where temperatures

0:00:130:00:16

have been below average,

0:00:160:00:17

easterly winds off a cold sea

0:00:170:00:18

which have then warmed as they've worked their way westwards,

0:00:180:00:21

red colours showing where temperatures have been

0:00:210:00:24

largely above average.

0:00:240:00:25

Rainfall amounts: bet you wouldn't have thought Shetland was the driest

0:00:250:00:28

place in the month so far - up until the overnight rain,

0:00:280:00:31

just three millimetres of rain here.

0:00:310:00:32

Nottinghamshire, Sutton Bonington, we've seen almost two months' worth

0:00:320:00:35

of June rainfall,

0:00:350:00:37

and that's because of those slow-moving storms last week.

0:00:370:00:39

We've got rid of them, introduced westerly winds to start this week,

0:00:390:00:42

clearing away some of that overnight rain, though that will linger

0:00:420:00:45

over East Anglia and the south-east towards the end of the day.

0:00:450:00:48

A few heavy showers before it gradually clears.

0:00:480:00:50

Elsewhere, brighter skies through the summer solstice

0:00:500:00:52

with sunshine a bit more abundant

0:00:520:00:54

through the afternoon than the morning.

0:00:540:00:56

But because it's westerly winds, one or two showers

0:00:560:00:58

coming in the breeze, and it's to the east of high ground

0:00:580:01:01

where we'll see the highest temperatures,

0:01:010:01:03

namely eastern Scotland and the north-east of England.

0:01:030:01:05

So, more sunshine to end the day than we began.

0:01:050:01:08

And if you want to see the solstice sunset,

0:01:080:01:10

you'll have to wait up till gone half past ten in Lerwick,

0:01:100:01:12

around quarter past nine in Dover, and hopefully we will see late sun,

0:01:120:01:16

the weather fronts clearing through into the near Continent

0:01:160:01:19

on that westerly flow,

0:01:190:01:20

which eases a little bit as we go into Tuesday,

0:01:200:01:22

the jet stream weakening but strong enough to bring weather fronts

0:01:220:01:25

very close to north-west Scotland. Northern Ireland, occasional rain.

0:01:250:01:28

The odd shower across other western areas, but many of you

0:01:280:01:31

will be dry on Tuesday - quite a pleasant day, sunny spells,

0:01:310:01:33

driest and warmest towards the east of the country.

0:01:330:01:36

There will, however, be a trailing weather front close to the English

0:01:360:01:40

Channel, which may keep things gloomy across

0:01:400:01:42

in the Channel Islands, and that separates us

0:01:420:01:45

from building heat and humidity again across parts of France

0:01:450:01:49

which, through Wednesday, could get scooped up

0:01:490:01:51

and start to be pushed towards us by this low pressure to the north-west.

0:01:510:01:55

The winds going more southerly could bring

0:01:550:01:57

that humid air towards East Anglia and the south-east.

0:01:570:01:59

Away from it, not a bad day, warm enough in the sunshine,

0:01:590:02:01

a few showers for Scotland, Northern Ireland, but a lot of dry weather.

0:02:010:02:04

But as the humidity levels rise later on, there is

0:02:040:02:07

the chance of storms in the Channel Islands

0:02:070:02:09

and then the south-east and East Anglia.

0:02:090:02:11

Now, this far ahead, it's always very difficult to see how far

0:02:110:02:14

east, how far west they come.

0:02:140:02:16

They could be further west. They may not even give us a glancing blow

0:02:160:02:19

and stay across Belgium and the Netherlands.

0:02:190:02:20

But it's something to bear in mind through Wednesday and Thursday.

0:02:200:02:24

And with this low pressure starting to become more dominant across

0:02:240:02:27

western areas of the UK,

0:02:270:02:28

showers will be a bit more frequent compared with Wednesday.

0:02:280:02:31

Now, as we finish Thursday and go into Friday,

0:02:310:02:34

this low will push in even further, hopefully pushing away

0:02:340:02:37

the stormy weather from the south-east if it does occur.

0:02:370:02:40

But it does mean a threat of showers towards the end of the week.

0:02:400:02:44

Very hit and miss, the winds will be light for some, so slow-moving.

0:02:440:02:46

A bit more speed about them towards the south-west, which is good news,

0:02:460:02:50

in one respect, because if any do come Glastonbury's way,

0:02:500:02:53

they will push through rapidly. But there's no guarantee you'll get wet.

0:02:530:02:56

But if you do, it's only going to add to the soggy ground we have.

0:02:560:02:59

And that low pressure's still with us into Saturday.

0:02:590:03:01

Southern areas could be the focus for the heaviest of the rain,

0:03:010:03:04

but as we go through the weekend,

0:03:040:03:06

it looks like the jet stream will kick back into gear to the

0:03:060:03:08

north of us, bringing low-pressure systems close to the north-west

0:03:080:03:11

and helping the Azores high just to build close to southern parts.

0:03:110:03:14

And in terms of weather? Well, always more likely

0:03:140:03:17

to see rain at times across the likes

0:03:170:03:19

of Scotland, Northern Ireland, not ruling out some showers

0:03:190:03:22

further south, but tending to be a little bit drier here.

0:03:220:03:24

Of course, for tennis fans that's quite crucial,

0:03:240:03:27

because early next week sees the start of Wimbledon. Bye for now.
