Hello. It's time to take a look a little further | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
ahead with the weather. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
But initially let's take a look at the rest of this week. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
It's been a very showery week. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
That was certainly true again on Wednesday, this taken in Kent. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:16
You can see the virga, the rain coming down in the distance. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
We did have some sunshine between the showers up in North Yorkshire | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
and it does feel a little bit more like July when the sun shines. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
And we should have more of that sunshine as we move into Thursday | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
because, arriving across the shores of the UK, a ridge of high pressure. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
It looks set to be the driest day of the week | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
so far with some decent spells of sunshine, especially in the morning. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
There could still be the odd light shower in the south first | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
thing and the odd one in eastern areas but you'll be unlucky, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
I think, if you catch one. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:43
For most of us, we'll just find the fair-weather cloud tends | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
to bubble up through the day but, of course, with light winds | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
and more sunshine than we've had, it will feel very pleasant. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
It's worth saying it's strong sunshine, we are in July. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
But temperatures will get into the high teens in the sunshine | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
in the north. Not a bad day for Troon | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
and we should see some decent | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
spells of sunshine, even into the afternoon further south. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
Probably the best of the sunshine will be found around the coasts | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
because, at this time of year, the cloud tends to bubble up inland | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
and that's where we see the cloudier spells into the afternoon. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
But it'll still be bright and it'll still feel warm and you'll | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
be, as I say, very unlucky if you catch more than one shower. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
It's the start of the first Test, England-Pakistan in Lord's tomorrow. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
Very unlucky if we catch one of those light showers. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
There will be a good deal of play here, as there will in Troon, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
although we could have quite a wet morning on Friday here. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
And the winds are going to be quite significant. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
We're talking gales potentially for the far north-west of Scotland | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
through Friday and into the start of the weekend, so unusually windy. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
And that's because this next weather system arrives through | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
Thursday night and into Friday. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Not much rain in southern areas, just a lot more cloud, I think, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
particularly across Wales and western England. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
Further north some spells of rain. Quite muggy air. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
The humidity will be rising in southern areas. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
Now, as we go through Friday night and to Saturday, there's | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
some uncertainty as to how quickly that cold weather front comes south. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
Notice there's not much rain left on it but it will be quite grey | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
and grotty, I should imagine. Quite dank underneath that cloud. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:09
Some sunshine coming out behind it, heavy showers. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
Those strong winds I talked about in the north and west. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
But very little rain in the south, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
just quite dreary under the weather front. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
Behind it, it's fresher air coming in, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
so we drop the humidity as we go towards Sunday | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
once that weather front clears away. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
So still achieving temperatures into the high teens and the low 20s, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
about average for the time of year. Still some showers in the north. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
Winds starting to ease away but, as I say, we've lost the humidity | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
because we've got the westerly wind back in. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
That westerly wind will keep the weather mobile through | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
the early part of the new week, which means we will see further | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
weather systems coming in, bringing with them their rain. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
It looks as if they will always bring most of that rain | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
towards the north because, hovering close by to the south, | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
where we look for our dry weather often at this time of year, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
as the Azores High is just drifting its way northwards, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
and that may well happen at times through the week but it may | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
be quite transient, just like the day ahead's ridge of high pressure. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:05
So, at the moment, as we look ahead, it looks like most | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
of the wetter weather will be in the north and west, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
nearer to those areas of low pressure. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:11
The driest nearer the high-pressure further south. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
Not much heat, though. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
But it will feel pleasant if you're in the sunshine and it's dry. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
As ever, you can get more information on the website | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
and John will be back tomorrow evening to update you. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
Bye-bye. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26 |
