It's a long way off, but a bit of heat and humidity in the forecast

0:00:020:00:05

as we look to next week, something we haven't seen much this summer,

0:00:050:00:08

I know it doesn't suit everyone.

0:00:080:00:10

Now, there's a lot to happen before that.

0:00:100:00:12

It's a fairly complicated weather picture at the moment,

0:00:120:00:14

with high pressure to the south,

0:00:140:00:16

and weatherfronts to the north,

0:00:160:00:17

and that's where most of the wet weather will be, through Friday.

0:00:170:00:20

Particularly wet for western parts of Scotland,

0:00:200:00:23

but some rain for a time for Northern Ireland,

0:00:230:00:25

and the rain pushing into other parts of Scotland.

0:00:250:00:27

Patchier stuff further south,

0:00:270:00:28

and you'll notice many southern parts of England stay dry,

0:00:280:00:31

albeit increasingly cloudy.

0:00:310:00:33

But for players and spectators

0:00:330:00:35

at the Open at Troon,

0:00:350:00:36

brace yourselves for a completely different day

0:00:360:00:39

compared to Thursday.

0:00:390:00:40

Fairly relentless rain, and strong and gusty winds.

0:00:400:00:43

Challenging conditions for the Open.

0:00:430:00:45

Now, some wet weather certainly persisting

0:00:450:00:47

for much of the day across Western Scotland.

0:00:470:00:49

Some of that rain crossing over to the eastern side,

0:00:490:00:52

the rain probably easing off for a time

0:00:520:00:53

across Northern Ireland, before it returns later on.

0:00:530:00:56

Just dribs and drabs, really,

0:00:560:00:58

for much of northern England,

0:00:580:00:59

Wales, the Midlands, sporadic outbreaks of rain

0:00:590:01:01

but not a lot at all.

0:01:010:01:03

As you can see, many southern counties will stay dry,

0:01:030:01:06

albeit increasingly cloudy,

0:01:060:01:07

at four o'clock in the afternoon.

0:01:070:01:09

So, if you're heading to the Test Match,

0:01:090:01:10

I'm pretty optimistic.

0:01:100:01:12

It'll start off bright, it'll tend to cloud over,

0:01:120:01:14

but bar the odd spot of rain,

0:01:140:01:16

I think we'll see near enough a full day's play.

0:01:160:01:18

Now, the weather systems will start

0:01:200:01:21

to edge their way south-eastwards

0:01:210:01:23

as we go through Friday night,

0:01:230:01:24

and this trailing cold front

0:01:240:01:27

will end up across parts of Wales

0:01:270:01:29

and central England

0:01:290:01:30

by the middle part of Saturday.

0:01:300:01:31

Along that, some patchy rain.

0:01:310:01:33

It's an important dividing line.

0:01:330:01:34

In actual fact, ahead of that,

0:01:340:01:36

staying dry, and in any brightness,

0:01:360:01:37

it'll feel quite warm and muggy,

0:01:370:01:39

up into the mid-20s.

0:01:390:01:40

Behind this cold front, not surprisingly,

0:01:400:01:42

you'll see cooler air, fresher conditions,

0:01:420:01:45

some sunshine, but some blustery showers

0:01:450:01:46

across the west of Scotland,

0:01:460:01:48

and these'll continue through Sunday.

0:01:480:01:50

This is where most of the weather action will be.

0:01:500:01:52

Further south, lighter winds,

0:01:520:01:54

and any rain will clear away.

0:01:540:01:55

Some brightness again,

0:01:550:01:57

some warmth to be had in the sunshine,

0:01:570:01:59

approaching the mid-20s.

0:01:590:02:00

Now, into the early part of next week.

0:02:000:02:03

I mentioned that we could see some heat and humidity.

0:02:030:02:05

Temperatures certainly building across southern areas,

0:02:050:02:08

where we continue to see some sunshine.

0:02:080:02:09

Further north, fresher, with some showers around.

0:02:090:02:13

Most of those across the north and west of Scotland.

0:02:130:02:15

That'll be the story again on Tuesday,

0:02:150:02:17

a lot of dry weather,

0:02:170:02:18

and again brightest and probably warmest

0:02:180:02:20

across southern areas,

0:02:200:02:21

the heat and the humidity beginning to build up,

0:02:210:02:24

and if I run a little sequence

0:02:240:02:26

of the temperature graphic

0:02:260:02:27

for the early part of next week,

0:02:270:02:29

you can see the deepest yellows and oranges

0:02:290:02:31

across the southern half of the UK,

0:02:310:02:33

quite muggy, quite humid air.

0:02:330:02:35

As I say, it doesn't suit everybody,

0:02:350:02:37

but at this stage, with high pressure,

0:02:370:02:40

that humidity will not, we think,

0:02:400:02:42

translate into thundery showers.

0:02:420:02:44

Most of the rain confined to the far north-west.

0:02:440:02:47

So, for holiday-makers,

0:02:470:02:48

I've got some good news.

0:02:480:02:49

At least for a time

0:02:490:02:51

through the early part of next week,

0:02:510:02:52

there should be plenty of dry and bright and sunny weather,

0:02:520:02:55

particularly across more southern and central parts of the UK.

0:02:550:02:58

Unfortunately, you'll need some waterproofs as well,

0:02:580:03:01

because that fine weather might not last all week,

0:03:010:03:03

because later on in the week,

0:03:030:03:05

we're going to start to see

0:03:050:03:07

that high pressure leaking away,

0:03:070:03:08

roughly from midweek onwards,

0:03:080:03:10

with potentially lower pressure and thundery rain developing, we think,

0:03:100:03:13

with time. The details of that, not nailed on,

0:03:130:03:16

but to sum up the picture later on next week -

0:03:160:03:19

humid start, yes,

0:03:190:03:20

but that increasing risk of some thundery rain,

0:03:200:03:23

before fresher conditions spread in from the west.

0:03:230:03:25

That's it from me. We'll keep you posted,

0:03:250:03:27

and Helen will be here again tomorrow.

0:03:270:03:29

OK, guys, we're about to go live to the world.
