Before we have a look at the weather for the next few days,

0:00:020:00:04

I just want to show you how dry April has been.

0:00:040:00:07

It's been a very quiet weather month,

0:00:070:00:09

we've not seen many weather systems

0:00:090:00:11

sweep through the UK

0:00:110:00:12

and the brown here shows

0:00:120:00:14

how very little rainfall

0:00:140:00:16

has fallen so far

0:00:160:00:17

so we still have to

0:00:170:00:18

get through the rest of April,

0:00:180:00:19

but it doesn't look like

0:00:190:00:21

there'll be a lot of rain coming our way at all,

0:00:210:00:23

at least for the remainder of this week and into next week,

0:00:230:00:26

it'll stay fairly calm and cloudy,

0:00:260:00:30

perhaps a little bit warmer

0:00:300:00:31

over the next two or three days

0:00:310:00:33

and then beyond that,

0:00:330:00:34

we'll see there are some changes on the way,

0:00:340:00:36

something perhaps a little bit more dynamic

0:00:360:00:38

sweeping off the Atlantic,

0:00:380:00:40

but not in the short term.

0:00:400:00:41

So, this is Thursday's weather forecast -

0:00:410:00:43

just cloudy, a few spits and spots of rain.

0:00:430:00:46

That is pretty much it

0:00:460:00:48

so a quiet day on the way

0:00:480:00:50

for most of us on Thursday.

0:00:500:00:52

Friday, high pressure to the south of the UK

0:00:520:00:54

so again lots of settled weather.

0:00:540:00:55

Not necessarily all that sunny

0:00:550:00:57

and a weather front moving in from the north.

0:00:570:00:59

Now, this is a weak weather front.

0:00:590:01:01

It's going to produce a little bit of rain

0:01:010:01:02

into western parts of Scotland.

0:01:020:01:04

By the time it sinks southwards,

0:01:040:01:06

there's not really going to be

0:01:060:01:08

much rainfall on it at all.

0:01:080:01:09

Ahead of it, temperatures could just about

0:01:090:01:11

warm up to 17 degrees in London.

0:01:110:01:14

For most of us,

0:01:140:01:15

it'll be a little bit cooler than that.

0:01:150:01:17

Then on Saturday,

0:01:170:01:18

high pressure establishes itself across the UK.

0:01:180:01:21

Again, lots of settled weather.

0:01:210:01:23

If the clouds gather, there might be a few spots of rain

0:01:230:01:25

here and there, just light, fleeting rain,

0:01:250:01:28

but nothing more than that.

0:01:280:01:29

Winds will be generally light as well

0:01:290:01:32

and actually a fair bit of cloud

0:01:320:01:33

so this high pressure is not going to bring

0:01:330:01:35

an awful lot of sunshine

0:01:350:01:36

and if anything, quite chilly, cloudy conditions

0:01:360:01:39

across some of the more northern parts of the UK.

0:01:390:01:41

As you can see, only nine degrees there in Newcastle.

0:01:410:01:43

And then here's the change.

0:01:430:01:45

So, Sunday into Monday,

0:01:450:01:47

potentially we could see this nasty area

0:01:470:01:49

of low pressure sweeping to the north of Scotland

0:01:490:01:52

or over Scotland.

0:01:520:01:53

Now, this forecast certainly is a little uncertain

0:01:530:01:56

at this stage, but gale force winds are possible

0:01:560:01:59

across Scotland and some heavier rain as well.

0:01:590:02:02

To the south of that, a lot, lot quieter

0:02:020:02:04

because low is quite far away.

0:02:040:02:06

London Marathon on Sunday - 16 degrees, I think,

0:02:060:02:08

could be the top temperature in the afternoon.

0:02:080:02:10

Now, let's focus on this low again.

0:02:100:02:12

So, here it is early on Monday,

0:02:120:02:14

you can see sweeping across the North Sea

0:02:140:02:17

into Norway there

0:02:170:02:18

and then its cold front moving southwards.

0:02:180:02:20

This could be quite a significant cold front

0:02:200:02:22

in terms of just how much cold air

0:02:220:02:24

is going to seep out of the Arctic regions.

0:02:240:02:26

Look at this cold plunge Monday into Tuesday.

0:02:260:02:29

Now, this could be very chilly air indeed

0:02:290:02:31

for the time of the year so, for example,

0:02:310:02:33

if you're taking a walk

0:02:330:02:34

down the North Sea coast,

0:02:340:02:36

down one of the promenades there,

0:02:360:02:37

it really could be quite cold.

0:02:370:02:39

You might need a coat.

0:02:390:02:40

Really chilly, gusty winds as well.

0:02:400:02:43

Inland, with the strong sunshine,

0:02:430:02:45

probably not feeling too cold.

0:02:450:02:47

The jet stream really takes a dive

0:02:470:02:50

through the middle part of the week

0:02:500:02:52

and out of the northern climes,

0:02:520:02:54

when we get this dive, we see colder air

0:02:540:02:55

always seeping in

0:02:550:02:57

so we're on this cold side of the jet.

0:02:570:02:59

The warmer air is towards the south

0:02:590:03:01

so I think the summary into next week

0:03:010:03:03

is there'll be some sunshine around with this cold air

0:03:030:03:06

surging in from the north, but that cold air,

0:03:060:03:08

combined with the strong sunshine,

0:03:080:03:11

may lead to some big rainstorms forming

0:03:110:03:13

so we could see some hit and miss very heavy showers,

0:03:130:03:16

even some hail in places as well.

0:03:160:03:17

So, here's the summary for next week.

0:03:170:03:19

That chilly wind out of the north,

0:03:190:03:21

thundery showers possible

0:03:210:03:22

and overnight, when we get clearer skies,

0:03:220:03:24

there is a risk of the frost returning

0:03:240:03:26

so not warming up in a hurry.
