Chilly weather looms. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:04
In fact, Mother Nature is about to remind us that winter was | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
not that long ago. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
Certainly, a dose of winter on the way for some of us early this week. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
But it's not going to be that cold. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
We're not expecting drifts or deepfreeze necessarily, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
it's just going to feel really chilly. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
Don't forget, the sun is very strong this time of year, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
so actually, it's very difficult to get especially | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
low temperatures towards the end of April. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
It's if you're caught in the shower clouds, if you're in the shade, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
if you are having a walk down the seafront - | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
for example, the North Sea coast - | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
that's where it's going to feel on the chilly side, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
and you will need your thick coats, possibly hats and gloves as well. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:42
This cold front here that's set into motion, that is the cold front | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
that will be introducing that colder air from the Arctic. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:49
On Monday, we're still just about hanging on to some of that | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
milder weather across the South. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
But look at the wintry showers affecting Scotland, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
the south of Scotland, possibly the north-east of England as well. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
And then into Monday, that colder air will have reached areas | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
as far south as northern France. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
Then on Tuesday, we're well and truly in this cold blast of air. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:09
And it will be wintry showers hail, showers, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
particularly across these northern, northeastern | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
and eastern areas of the UK. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
But also inland there'll be some wintry showers around. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
Most of us will probably get sunshine, the occasional shower, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:25
big storm clouds like this, possibly even a hailstorm. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
And if any snow does fall during the daytime, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
it's most likely to settle across the hills | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
rather than in our gardens, if you live in towns and cities. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
So, actually, for many of us, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
it will be quite a sunny day on Tuesday, but a chilly one. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
Those temperatures really will struggle. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
As we head into Wednesday, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
high pressure starts to build off the Atlantic, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
but with winds blowing like so, we still have northerly winds. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
So the source, where the air's coming from, is still pretty nippy. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
So again, another chilly day, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:58
but I don't think it's going to be as cold as Tuesday. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
Still showers around on Wednesday, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
and those temperatures struggling, single figures for many of us, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
just about double figures across southern parts of the UK. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
Look what happens by the time we get to Thursday. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
This colder Arctic air, which would have originated from the north, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
of course, is squeezed out, cut off, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
once this milder air starts racing in off the Atlantic. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
The transition will happen from Wednesday into Thursday, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
we'll see a switch in the wind direction, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
and that milder air will start toppling over the UK. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
But it still will be a fairly cloudy day, and for some of us, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
no doubt, it'll feel on the chilly side. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
And then towards Friday, I think the weather's looking | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
a little bit more like normal. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
We'll start to see weather fronts lining up in the Atlantic, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
heading in our direction, and there probably will be some rain | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
heading towards parts of Scotland. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
Let's take a look at the jet stream as we head towards the weekend. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:52
This is probably very early in the weekend, sometime Friday night. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:57
Very quickly, this jet stream, with the low pressure sitting here and | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
the unsettled weather and rain, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
that jet stream will push its way towards the east. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
So around Saturday/Sunday, that dip in the jet stream, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
with the low pressure, will be over us, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
and we're expecting unsettled weather. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
So the weekend is looking unsettled, next weekend. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
Then very quickly, the thinking is that dip in the jet stream | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
with the low pressure will push towards the east, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
then we'll start to see high pressure building | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
and things will settle down. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
So, early next week, it looks like the weather will dry out | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
and it should be fairly pleasant. Bye-bye. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30 |
