Chilly weather looms.

0:00:030:00:04

In fact, Mother Nature is about to remind us that winter was

0:00:040:00:07

not that long ago.

0:00:070:00:09

Certainly, a dose of winter on the way for some of us early this week.

0:00:090:00:12

But it's not going to be that cold.

0:00:120:00:14

We're not expecting drifts or deepfreeze necessarily,

0:00:140:00:18

it's just going to feel really chilly.

0:00:180:00:20

Don't forget, the sun is very strong this time of year,

0:00:200:00:23

so actually, it's very difficult to get especially

0:00:230:00:26

low temperatures towards the end of April.

0:00:260:00:28

It's if you're caught in the shower clouds, if you're in the shade,

0:00:280:00:32

if you are having a walk down the seafront -

0:00:320:00:34

for example, the North Sea coast -

0:00:340:00:35

that's where it's going to feel on the chilly side,

0:00:350:00:38

and you will need your thick coats, possibly hats and gloves as well.

0:00:380:00:42

This cold front here that's set into motion, that is the cold front

0:00:420:00:45

that will be introducing that colder air from the Arctic.

0:00:450:00:49

On Monday, we're still just about hanging on to some of that

0:00:490:00:52

milder weather across the South.

0:00:520:00:54

But look at the wintry showers affecting Scotland,

0:00:540:00:57

the south of Scotland, possibly the north-east of England as well.

0:00:570:01:00

And then into Monday, that colder air will have reached areas

0:01:000:01:03

as far south as northern France.

0:01:030:01:05

Then on Tuesday, we're well and truly in this cold blast of air.

0:01:050:01:09

And it will be wintry showers hail, showers,

0:01:090:01:13

particularly across these northern, northeastern

0:01:130:01:16

and eastern areas of the UK.

0:01:160:01:18

But also inland there'll be some wintry showers around.

0:01:180:01:20

Most of us will probably get sunshine, the occasional shower,

0:01:200:01:25

big storm clouds like this, possibly even a hailstorm.

0:01:250:01:27

And if any snow does fall during the daytime,

0:01:270:01:30

it's most likely to settle across the hills

0:01:300:01:33

rather than in our gardens, if you live in towns and cities.

0:01:330:01:37

So, actually, for many of us,

0:01:370:01:38

it will be quite a sunny day on Tuesday, but a chilly one.

0:01:380:01:41

Those temperatures really will struggle.

0:01:410:01:44

As we head into Wednesday,

0:01:440:01:46

high pressure starts to build off the Atlantic,

0:01:460:01:49

but with winds blowing like so, we still have northerly winds.

0:01:490:01:53

So the source, where the air's coming from, is still pretty nippy.

0:01:530:01:57

So again, another chilly day,

0:01:570:01:58

but I don't think it's going to be as cold as Tuesday.

0:01:580:02:01

Still showers around on Wednesday,

0:02:010:02:03

and those temperatures struggling, single figures for many of us,

0:02:030:02:06

just about double figures across southern parts of the UK.

0:02:060:02:09

Look what happens by the time we get to Thursday.

0:02:090:02:12

This colder Arctic air, which would have originated from the north,

0:02:120:02:14

of course, is squeezed out, cut off,

0:02:140:02:18

once this milder air starts racing in off the Atlantic.

0:02:180:02:22

The transition will happen from Wednesday into Thursday,

0:02:220:02:25

we'll see a switch in the wind direction,

0:02:250:02:27

and that milder air will start toppling over the UK.

0:02:270:02:30

But it still will be a fairly cloudy day, and for some of us,

0:02:300:02:33

no doubt, it'll feel on the chilly side.

0:02:330:02:35

And then towards Friday, I think the weather's looking

0:02:350:02:38

a little bit more like normal.

0:02:380:02:39

We'll start to see weather fronts lining up in the Atlantic,

0:02:390:02:42

heading in our direction, and there probably will be some rain

0:02:420:02:45

heading towards parts of Scotland.

0:02:450:02:48

Let's take a look at the jet stream as we head towards the weekend.

0:02:480:02:52

This is probably very early in the weekend, sometime Friday night.

0:02:520:02:57

Very quickly, this jet stream, with the low pressure sitting here and

0:02:570:03:00

the unsettled weather and rain,

0:03:000:03:02

that jet stream will push its way towards the east.

0:03:020:03:05

So around Saturday/Sunday, that dip in the jet stream,

0:03:050:03:07

with the low pressure, will be over us,

0:03:070:03:09

and we're expecting unsettled weather.

0:03:090:03:11

So the weekend is looking unsettled, next weekend.

0:03:110:03:15

Then very quickly, the thinking is that dip in the jet stream

0:03:150:03:17

with the low pressure will push towards the east,

0:03:170:03:20

then we'll start to see high pressure building

0:03:200:03:22

and things will settle down.

0:03:220:03:24

So, early next week, it looks like the weather will dry out

0:03:240:03:27

and it should be fairly pleasant. Bye-bye.
