It is going to be a cold and frosty start to Tuesday.

0:00:010:00:04

Not just frosty, but for some there is likely to be some wintry weather

0:00:040:00:07

particularly in the north and north-east of the UK.

0:00:070:00:10

In fact, that is what we saw on Monday, some snow showers

0:00:100:00:14

giving a covering of snow in some parts of the north of Scotland.

0:00:140:00:16

Not unusual this time of year to see some snow, but certainly unwelcome.

0:00:160:00:20

That is what we're going to see in the north and north-east

0:00:200:00:22

through the morning. Cold in the wind as well.

0:00:220:00:24

After a sunny start elsewhere, cloud will build and we will see

0:00:240:00:27

some pretty lively showers going into the afternoon.

0:00:270:00:30

Showers in Scotland will contain some snow mainly over high ground.

0:00:300:00:33

Some might get down to lower levels at times and it is cold in

0:00:330:00:36

the wind in spite of some sunshine.

0:00:360:00:38

Similar in Northern Ireland. There will be some hail,

0:00:380:00:41

some thunder and showers across some parts of England and Wales.

0:00:410:00:44

When you get the hail showers,

0:00:440:00:45

you also get some really cold winds coming down from those clouds,

0:00:450:00:48

down draughts which could drop temperatures by several degrees.

0:00:480:00:51

But get back into the sunshine

0:00:510:00:53

and out of the wind it will be not too bad.

0:00:530:00:55

Still further wintry showers around through the evening mainly towards

0:00:550:00:58

the north and east of the UK.

0:00:580:01:00

Further west, we have got clearer skies and the blue tinge,

0:01:000:01:03

that is a touch of frost developing.

0:01:030:01:05

I think generally it will be a cold start to the day on Wednesday.

0:01:050:01:08

Single digits across the board.

0:01:080:01:10

Probably below zero in a few places.

0:01:100:01:12

We've got high pressure in charge on Wednesday.

0:01:120:01:15

The winds go clockwise around that.

0:01:150:01:16

Still the air is coming down from the Iceland region

0:01:160:01:19

so not particularly warm but still some dry and bright weather

0:01:190:01:22

to be had. Where it starts quite cold in the west, some spells

0:01:220:01:25

of sunshine here, but further east we're likely to see some

0:01:250:01:27

showers getting going and there is a risk of some hail and sleet.

0:01:270:01:31

But some spells of sunshine further west.

0:01:310:01:32

Although in the north-west, we'll see some thicker cloud and some

0:01:320:01:35

outbreaks of rain just fringing in here.

0:01:350:01:37

Six degrees in Shetland, 12 degrees in London.

0:01:370:01:41

The average is around about 9 through the middle of the week.

0:01:410:01:43

But the general trend is for those

0:01:430:01:45

temperatures to keep on rising day by day

0:01:450:01:47

so the highest temperature will be coming in just after

0:01:470:01:50

the bank holiday weekend. Those are average temperatures.

0:01:500:01:53

Some will be a bit higher, some a bit lower.

0:01:530:01:55

As you get on into Thursday,

0:01:550:01:56

we've still got high pressure in charge of our weather.

0:01:560:01:59

This weather front will be fairly weak as it drifts its way south

0:01:590:02:01

but it will bring a fair bit of cloud with it and some rain.

0:02:010:02:05

Not a great deal, but some.

0:02:050:02:06

I think the south-east is going to stay driest for longest.

0:02:060:02:09

That is why will see the highest temperatures -

0:02:090:02:11

around about 13 or 14 degrees.

0:02:110:02:12

But not too bad in Glasgow, it is around about 12 degrees.

0:02:120:02:15

Then as you head on towards the end of the week, still got high pressure

0:02:150:02:18

in charge, still got a weak weather front drifting its way south.

0:02:180:02:22

Not much rain to be had from that by this stage but still

0:02:220:02:24

a fair bit of cloud, maybe a bit of rain in one or two places but

0:02:240:02:27

a lot of dry, rather cloudy weather towards the end of the week.

0:02:270:02:31

12 degrees in Glasgow is not so bad, 13 or 14 in Cardiff and London.

0:02:310:02:34

Then as we head on into the start of the weekend,

0:02:340:02:38

high pressure is centred over Scandinavia,

0:02:380:02:40

still exerting its influence across the United Kingdom

0:02:400:02:43

bringing a bit of a breeze from the east and that will drag in

0:02:430:02:46

a fair bit of cloud, but not much rain to speak of.

0:02:460:02:49

Around about 14 or 15 degrees in the south-eastern corner.

0:02:490:02:53

Then on into the bank holiday itself,

0:02:530:02:57

question marks about the details.

0:02:570:02:58

One scenario is that high pressure is to the east of UK which means

0:02:580:03:02

the weather systems could well cross our shores bringing some rain

0:03:020:03:05

mainly towards the north and west.

0:03:050:03:07

However, if that high is a little bit further west its influence

0:03:070:03:10

may well just break up those weather fronts

0:03:100:03:11

so there is very little rain to speak of.

0:03:110:03:13

So there are some question marks about that.

0:03:130:03:15

However, after the bank holiday it looks like things

0:03:150:03:17

are going to be quite unsettled in the north-west, drier and brighter

0:03:170:03:20

in the south-east. Generally speaking becoming warmer.

0:03:200:03:23

The question is how warm will it get? It could get very

0:03:230:03:26

warm for some of us, mainly in the south-eastern corner.
