Hello there. There are plenty of different features | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
that can affect our weather. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
Cloud amounts, rainfall, sunshine, wind direction, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
and during the week ahead, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
they are going to jostle for position | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
to determine just how the weather looks and feels, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
and the start of the week is going to feel cool, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
because it is this north or north-easterly | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
winds that dominate the scene, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
bringing quite a lot of cloud in across eastern areas, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
perhaps the odd spot of drizzle. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
The best of the sunshine | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
through Monday will again be out West, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
whereas the east coast will feel decidedly chilly. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
Just 8 or 9 degrees, and even where we get | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
that sunshine further west, temperatures will be | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
a little down on where they have been. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
As we go through Monday night, the wind | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
will become less of a feature because | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
the isobars, the white lines on our chart, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
become more widely spaced. They open up, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
so those winds fall light and there will be | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
a fair amount of cloud around | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
by this stage on Tuesday morning, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
so Tuesday, yes, a fairly cloudy day. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
That cloud could be thick enough to produce the odd spot | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
of drizzle, but we'll see | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
some sunny breaks here and there. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
Temperatures around 10-16 degrees. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
As we move through Tuesday night into Wednesday, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
high pressure really is the main player | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
in our weather story, and as the high sits | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
right on top of the British Isles, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
the winds will generally be fairly light. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
We'll lose what's left of that cool | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
north-easterly breeze, so many places feeling warmer, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
more in the way of sunshine as well. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
The best of that across England, Wales | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
and Northern Ireland. Some patchy cloud | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
bubbling up through the day. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
Across Scotland, we will see | 0:01:25 | 0:01:26
more in the way of cloud, and perhaps | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
some patchy rain up towards the far north-east. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
Through Wednesday evening, things could get | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
a little chilly because there won't be much wind, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
although those winds will then start | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
to strengthen, becoming more of a feature again | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
in the south as the isobars begin to move in. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
Perhaps a more significant feature by this stage on Thursday | 0:01:40 | 0:01:44
will be some showery rain which is likely to move | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
erratically into some southern areas. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
Further north, more sunshine. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
Temperatures not doing too badly, 11-19 degrees. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
Through Thursday night into Friday, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
I think it's this low out here | 0:01:56 | 0:01:57
that's going to become the main feature. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
That'll be driving all of our weather, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
bringing lumps of moisture, lumps of wet weather | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
up from the south, and with that, potentially, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
some fairly warm air as well. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
What that means is that when we start to see | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
rain, and we will see some rain for the end of the week, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
that rain could be quite heavy because that warm air | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
will give some extra energy into the atmosphere. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
So, some heavy downpours on Friday, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
could be some rumbles of thunder, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
some flashes of lightning. Rain will be welcome. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
A bit of uncertainty about just how far north it will get | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
across parts of Scotland. For the end of the week, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
these are the different features, the different players | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
that may have a part to play. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
Low pressure up here to the West, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
another low out in the Atlantic. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
All the way down here, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
we have an area of high pressure, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
and it is really the jetstream | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
that's going to decide which of those | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
different features will become the next feature | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
to take us to the next weekend and beyond. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
And it looks like the jetstream will start to break through, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
running from West to East, winding up weather systems | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
in the Atlantic and driving them towards | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
the north-west of the British Isles. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
At the same time, this high pressure | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
has its part to play, starting to work | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
its way in towards the south-east, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
so through the weekend and then beyond | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
into the following week, there will always be | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
high pressure close by to the south and the east, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
but areas of low pressure are likely to run across | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
northern and western parts of the country. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
With that, a south-westerly wind, not a particularly cold wind. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
So, spells of rain likely as we move further ahead. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
The wettest weather will be in the north-west | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
and with that south-westerly wind, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
it will generally feel fairly warm. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
