Hello, sometimes when high pressure is in charge of our weather, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
I have to be honest with you, there is not a lot to talk about. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
Right now, it's hard to fit it all in. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
On Monday, we talked about the rain, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
for Tuesday it was the warmth for some, from | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
East Anglia, south-east England, and into north-east Scotland, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
and in fact it was the UK's warmest day of the year so far, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
with 26 Celsius at Gravesend in Kent. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
But that 22 at Lossiemouth in Moray, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
was Scotland's highest temperature of the year so far. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
So, some warmth and some sunshine. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
Clearly, not everybody had that, though, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
here is some cloud that did produce some outbreaks of rain. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
There's a lot to talk about because we have swapped high pressure | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
for low pressure, here it is to the west of us. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
Now, you think, hold on, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
low pressure and yet there has been some warmth around. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
Surely that would come with high pressure at the height of summer? | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
Well, as ever with the UK's weather, low pressure or high pressure, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
it is about where the air is coming from around these pressure systems. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:53
And what we have at the moment, around low pressure in the Atlantic, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
is warm air being drawn back from a long way south of the UK and | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
lifting those temperatures where the sun makes an appearance, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
boosting the humidity too. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
But as we go through the week, low pressure still to the west | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
of us changes position slightly and we start to filter in this | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
cooler air, not from the south but from the north-west. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
So, it will feel much fresher, not cold by any stretch of | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
the imagination, but it will feel quite different out there. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
And before we get to that, there's something else to talk about | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
during Wednesday, and that is all this rain covering | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
a large swathe of England and Wales, leading to for some a very wet day. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
For Scotland, and for Northern Ireland, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
some pleasant sunny spells and scattered showers. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
It will feel quite warm in the sunshine, cool in the rain, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
and still very warm and humid, with that air from the south, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
into East Anglia and south-east England. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
But here the rain will get in late in the day and there's a chance | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
of seeing some torrential thunder bursts before it clears away. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
Now, there will be some in southern, central and eastern England | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
that will end up with around 20 to 40mm of rain. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
After it's been so dry, very useful for gardeners, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
not so good for travelling through, but it's gone for Thursday, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
sunshine and scattered showers across the board, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
and remember that very warm and humid air, well, that's | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
now cleared out of the way, it's feeling cooler and fresher, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
but still pleasant when the sun makes an appearance, cooler when the | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
showers move through, but catch one and it could be heavy and thundery. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
Now, if anything, on Friday, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
low pressure is certainly in control, you can see the | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
swirl of wind around it, just to the west of the UK. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
But with low pressure in control, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
those showers become more widespread on Friday, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
and look like featuring on our weather all the way through the | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
weekend into the start of next week as well. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
So a quick look at Saturday, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
it's difficult at this stage to pinpoint exactly where the | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
heavy showers will be, where the most frequent showers will be, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
but just cater for sunshine and showers Saturday and Sunday | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
and also, although it's cooler and fresher by day, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
the nights have turned cooler too. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
And some spots may end up close to freezing | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
in any prolonged clear spells overnight. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
It is much less humid, now that warm air is out of the way. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
Now into the start of next week, low pressure, as we've seen, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
is around but it looks like it may just exit the scene for | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
a time, allowing high pressure to build in, but it looks like | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
that will just be briefly, because the best advice at the moment is | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
that low pressure will come back and turn things unsettled once more. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
So, it's a bit up and down next week, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
a showery start, possibly dry and more settled for a time, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
but not for long, before low pressure comes back on the scene. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
And of course, it will be low pressure coming back on | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
the scene, and that means, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
at least for me, there will be lots to talk about. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
And that's your latest Weather For The Week Ahead. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28 |
