Hello there. It is the last day of meteorological spring,

0:00:020:00:04

and we haven't got all the statistics in yet

0:00:040:00:06

from the Met Office, but the provisional statistics

0:00:060:00:09

suggest that spring was a good deal drier than average.

0:00:090:00:11

The white colours indicate average amounts of rainfall,

0:00:110:00:14

but as you can see most of the map is brown,

0:00:140:00:16

indicating less than the average amount of rain.

0:00:160:00:18

Nothing exceptional -

0:00:180:00:19

most places have seen 75% to 90% of their normal amount of rainfall.

0:00:190:00:24

And there is some rain on the way

0:00:240:00:25

for the first day of meteorological summer

0:00:250:00:28

thanks to this area of low pressure to the north-west of the UK

0:00:280:00:31

throwing these weather fronts at us.

0:00:310:00:33

It's going to be a very slow-moving weather feature and it will

0:00:330:00:35

start off in Northern Ireland,

0:00:350:00:37

bringing some rain and a bit of a breeze as well.

0:00:370:00:39

That will slowly creep its way across

0:00:390:00:41

into the western side of Scotland.

0:00:410:00:42

Ahead of that, it's a bit of a grey start in some parts of

0:00:420:00:44

England and Wales, particularly in the south, but that will burn away

0:00:440:00:47

and we'll see a good deal of sunshine coming through.

0:00:470:00:50

And it's going to be quite a warm afternoon,

0:00:500:00:51

25, 26 degrees in the south-eastern corner,

0:00:510:00:54

the low 20s quite widely, but something a little bit fresher

0:00:540:00:57

is coming in behind our weather front,

0:00:570:00:59

which as I say is a fairly slow-moving feature.

0:00:590:01:01

It will slowly work its way across Scotland,

0:01:010:01:03

then we start to see these little ripples on this weather front

0:01:030:01:06

and that's just going to slow its progress,

0:01:060:01:08

but eventually it will make its way towards the south-eastern corner.

0:01:080:01:11

But as we head towards Friday,

0:01:110:01:12

still got some warm air across the southern half of the UK.

0:01:120:01:14

In fact, it's going to be a very warm day,

0:01:140:01:16

but all the while it's turning a little bit fresher

0:01:160:01:19

from the north and west.

0:01:190:01:20

So, there is our weather front draped across some parts of

0:01:200:01:22

northern England, Wales and the south-west.

0:01:220:01:24

Some of that rain could be quite heavy

0:01:240:01:26

but ahead of that it will turn very warm indeed,

0:01:260:01:27

could get 27 degrees,

0:01:270:01:29

and that might spark off one or two thunderstorms.

0:01:290:01:31

Then, as we head on into the weekend,

0:01:310:01:33

it will be a mixture of sunny spells

0:01:330:01:34

and a good scattering of showers as well.

0:01:340:01:37

But as those westerly winds start to get in across the UK,

0:01:370:01:40

it will drop those temperatures and bring a fresher feel to most places.

0:01:400:01:44

So, through Friday evening, still a chance of some thunderstorms,

0:01:440:01:47

then our weather front pushes all of that

0:01:470:01:49

across towards the near continent.

0:01:490:01:51

Then we're into those westerly winds,

0:01:510:01:53

so it's a fresher day on Saturday.

0:01:530:01:54

Still into low 20s in the south-eastern corner,

0:01:540:01:57

but most places will be in the upper teens -

0:01:570:01:59

16 or 17 will be a bit more typical.

0:01:590:02:01

And then Saturday night into Sunday,

0:02:010:02:03

still got these westerly winds coming in from the Atlantic,

0:02:030:02:05

areas of low pressure not too far away from the UK.

0:02:050:02:08

It will be a breezy day on Sunday, nothing too untoward in terms

0:02:080:02:11

of the strength of the wind but a noticeable breeze,

0:02:110:02:13

and there will be a fair bit of cloud around and some showers.

0:02:130:02:16

Most of the showers will be in the west,

0:02:160:02:17

a little bit drier for the east.

0:02:170:02:19

And again, most places will be in the upper teens,

0:02:190:02:21

a few might just get into the low 20s.

0:02:210:02:24

As we head into the early part of the coming week,

0:02:240:02:26

we've still got low-pressure in charge of our weather

0:02:260:02:29

and further areas of low pressure

0:02:290:02:31

lurking out in the Atlantic heading our way.

0:02:310:02:33

So it looks fairly unsettled and Monday I think

0:02:330:02:35

will be a fairly breezy day.

0:02:350:02:37

We'll see some showers coming in from the west on that breeze

0:02:370:02:41

and again, temperatures will be in the middle to upper teens -

0:02:410:02:44

17 or 18 will be the peak temperatures on Monday.

0:02:440:02:47

And then into the early parts of the week, yes, through Tuesday

0:02:470:02:50

we start to see this next area of low pressure coming our way.

0:02:500:02:53

That's going to bring some wind and some rain with it.

0:02:530:02:56

So an unsettled look to things,

0:02:560:02:57

but high pressure is still lingering across the near continent,

0:02:570:03:00

so that will just about exert its influence

0:03:000:03:02

across the south-eastern corner

0:03:020:03:04

as you head towards the latter part of next week.

0:03:040:03:06

But all the while, low-pressure systems will be pushing their way

0:03:060:03:08

across the north and west of the UK. Those low-pressure systems

0:03:080:03:11

are driven along by the jet stream,

0:03:110:03:13

which is arching its way to the north of the UK.

0:03:130:03:16

So, later next week it's a north-west, south-east split.

0:03:160:03:18

Cooler, wetter conditions in the north-west,

0:03:180:03:20

gales will be possible here.

0:03:200:03:22

In the south-east it will be drier and it will be warmer,

0:03:220:03:25

but that warmth may well spark off some thunderstorms.

0:03:250:03:27

Bye for now.
