Hello there. Some of us saw some sunshine

0:00:020:00:03

for the second part of the weekend.

0:00:030:00:05

Others saw thicker cloud and some rain.

0:00:050:00:07

We'll take a look at this satellite sequence from Sunday,

0:00:070:00:09

and it shows this curl of cloud in the north west of the UK.

0:00:090:00:12

That's the centre of an area of low pressure,

0:00:120:00:14

and the closer you were to that, the thicker the cloud was,

0:00:140:00:16

the showers became quite frequent and there was

0:00:160:00:18

a spell of quite wet weather for a time, and this picture

0:00:180:00:20

was taken by one of our weather watchers in the Scottish Highlands.

0:00:200:00:24

Some rain, but a completely different look to things

0:00:240:00:27

in the Channel Islands.

0:00:270:00:28

Lovely afternoon with plenty of sunshine.

0:00:280:00:31

We do have that area of low pressure drifting its way over

0:00:310:00:34

eastwards off towards Scandinavia during Monday.

0:00:340:00:37

It leaves behind a fair old squeeze on those isobars,

0:00:370:00:39

so it will be a blustery day, but notice the pressure is rising,

0:00:390:00:42

so apart from a few showers mainly in the north west,

0:00:420:00:45

there's going to be a lot of dry weather through the day on Monday.

0:00:450:00:47

Maybe one or two early showers across England and Wales

0:00:470:00:49

but they tend to fade away into the afternoon.

0:00:490:00:51

There'll be some good spells of sunshine.

0:00:510:00:53

Eastern Scotland doing very well and I think we'll see some good breaks

0:00:530:00:56

in that cloud east of the Pennines,

0:00:560:00:57

and many southern counties actually doing quite well as well.

0:00:570:01:00

Top temperatures, 19 degrees in Aberdeen, similar in Norwich,

0:01:000:01:02

20 degrees in London, closer to 17 with a bit more cloud further west.

0:01:020:01:06

Maybe only 14 or 15 in Glasgow with the cloud and showers

0:01:060:01:09

coming and going. Through the evening,

0:01:090:01:11

Western Scotland is the focal point for further showers and then

0:01:110:01:14

we see some wetter weather coming into Northern Ireland,

0:01:140:01:16

Western Scotland through the small hours of Tuesday morning and maybe

0:01:160:01:19

a few dribs and drabs of rain in the north west of England, North Wales.

0:01:190:01:21

And by dawn on Tuesday,

0:01:210:01:23

temperatures in that range of 10-13 degrees once again,

0:01:230:01:26

so not particularly cold,

0:01:260:01:27

although rural spots will be a few degrees lower than that.

0:01:270:01:30

Now, Tuesday, northern England, northwards there'll be

0:01:300:01:32

a fair bit of cloud and some rain coming and going.

0:01:320:01:34

I suspect it may well brighten up later on in the north of Scotland.

0:01:340:01:38

For England and Wales, I think we're going to have

0:01:380:01:40

a pretty decent day with variable cloud, some sunshine,

0:01:400:01:42

light winds, too, and it will feel quite warm.

0:01:420:01:45

We'll see temperatures up to 19 in Cardiff, 22, 23 in London,

0:01:450:01:49

closer to 17 or 18 in Glasgow and in Belfast.

0:01:490:01:53

Then on into the middle of the week and high pressure really is

0:01:530:01:55

the dominant force for much of the UK,

0:01:550:01:57

but notice these weather systems bringing

0:01:570:01:59

a bit of breeze and some rain into the north west of the UK,

0:01:590:02:03

so it will be breezy, cloudy with some rain in Western Scotland

0:02:030:02:06

in particular, but that rain is moving ever northwards.

0:02:060:02:08

We've got this southerly breeze,

0:02:080:02:09

it'll be dry and bright for much of England and Wales, and warm, too.

0:02:090:02:12

Low 20s quite widely, could get into the upper 20s

0:02:120:02:15

in the south-eastern corner, so very warm, actually,

0:02:150:02:18

for some of us through the middle of the week,

0:02:180:02:20

but we are beginning to see some changes on Thursday as this

0:02:200:02:23

weather front comes in from the west.

0:02:230:02:25

It's a cold front and it will bring some rain with it,

0:02:250:02:27

but behind it, slightly fresher air,

0:02:270:02:30

so we see those temperatures just dropping back by a notch or two.

0:02:300:02:32

But as that cold front works its way inland,

0:02:320:02:34

the rain becomes very light and patchy.

0:02:340:02:36

Notice, though, just potential for a few potentially thundery showers

0:02:360:02:40

clipping the south-eastern corner.

0:02:400:02:42

23 degrees in London by this stage, back down

0:02:420:02:45

to 16, 17 in Glasgow and in Belfast, and then by the end of the week,

0:02:450:02:48

we take a look at the jet stream because that's what tends to

0:02:480:02:51

drive the low pressure systems towards us.

0:02:510:02:53

Where you get these little undulations you're likely

0:02:530:02:55

to see a little area of low pressure developing and that'll get

0:02:550:02:58

dragged our way by the jet stream, but equally, high pressure is likely

0:02:580:03:01

to move its way in from the south as we get on into next weekend.

0:03:010:03:05

And that's going to bring that wind in from the south, so again,

0:03:050:03:08

we're going to see things warming up,

0:03:080:03:09

but low pressure to the north of the UK is likely to bring

0:03:090:03:12

some rain at times, mainly to the north and west of the UK.

0:03:120:03:16

There'll be a bit of a breeze to go with that, but elsewhere,

0:03:160:03:18

it's looking pretty promising.

0:03:180:03:19

A lot of dry weather to be had,

0:03:190:03:21

and we are also expecting to see those temperatures back on

0:03:210:03:23

the rise once again, but the big question is,

0:03:230:03:26

how long will that high pressure system stick around?
