15/06/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. We saw summer warmth build quite extensively

across much of Western Europe on Wednesday.

Temperatures in eastern parts of Spain up to around 40 degrees.

In southern parts of France

we saw temperatures into the mid-30s.

That heat culminating with storms

particularly in eastern France once again.

There could be more here over the next few days.

For us, 27 was the high

and the next couple of days will be fresher.

Fresher air pushing off the Atlantic

behind this weather front

which starts today in western areas,

pushes eastwards mainly as a band of cloud

and a few showers into the afternoon.

After a quick rise in temperatures

and a sunny start in eastern England,

turns a bit fresher later on.

A fresher feel elsewhere with more of a breeze.

Showers for Scotland, Northern Ireland

and northern parts of England in particular.

Further south, staying largely dry

and most seeing sunshine to end the day.

But even though temperatures have dropped

compared with Wednesday,

it will still feel pleasant in the sun

and out of the breeze.

Temperatures just above average for the time of year.

Similar temperatures as we go into Friday.

High pressure nudging back in from the South-West,

but around the top of it,

weather fronts work their way in.

First sign of those will be on Friday morning

with cloud building across Northern Ireland.

Many go into Friday,

clearer skies and a bit fresher

than we'll have started Thursday morning.

Some sunny spells to begin with,

cloud will build through the day,

particularly further north and west,

occasionally rain for Northern Ireland.

A bit more persistent

across Western Scotland, but not heavy.

Some patchy rain into parts of northern England.

Further south, stays dry. Best of the sunshine.

Even if it's on the hazy side at times.

And temperatures fairly similar

to what we'll have seen on Thursday.

To get us into the weekend,

that high pressure starts

to build further across the south.

Not enough to stop these weather fronts

pushing in off the Atlantic

across Scotland and Northern Ireland in particular.

Always more cloud here.

We've got the definite north-south split

as far as cloud amounts.

Sunniest towards the South,

temperatures build once again,

maybe into the high 20s,

but even with some breaks in eastern Scotland,

temperatures could lift towards 22 or 23.

Not much changes into Sunday.

Maybe the winds ease back a bit

across northern Scotland.

We'll see less rain here by this stage,

but still a few spots of rain or drizzle

on western coasts and hills.

Further south, blue skies,

and it could be our first 30 degree day of the year.

If it doesn't happen on Sunday,

Monday could well be likely too.

That high pressure still in place.

A weak weather front just sitting

across northern Scotland,

always producing more cloud,

but there will be breaks in the cloud

and don't forget, the sun is getting strong,

getting to the summer solstice by this stage.

Breaks in the cloud,

warmer day in Western Scotland and to the south.

Getting close to 30 Celsius once again.

As we head into the start of next week, this is how it is.

High pressure across the UK,

low pressure starting to develop

towards the Bay of Biscay means

most places start the week dry.

Probably quite hot as well,

with temperatures still close to

30 Celsius across southern areas.

What happens next is very uncertain.

Could this area of low pressure in the Bay of Biscay push towards us?

That will set some thunderstorms off across the South,

particularly where temperatures are high.

But there's also a chance that our breakdown could come from the West.

This is what we're not sure about at this stage.

If it does, fresher air will push in

behind a band of rain

which again could be on the thundery side.

So a huge amount of uncertainty to how next week develops.

Dry and warm, if not hot start.

Some patchy rain across north-west Scotland,

but signs of a thundery breakdown.

How quickly it happens and how it happens,

we'll have to keep you updated.
