Hello there. So far, this week has been relatively quiet and, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
in actual fact, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:05
the weather patterns that we have had have been stuck in repeat and, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
in fact, Thursday's Weather Watchers illustrates this beautifully. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
The north-west again cloudy with outbreaks of showery rain | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
through the afternoon in Scotland but, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
into the south-east corner across that Kent coast, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
we had an early afternoon high of 25 degrees, 77 Fahrenheit. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:24
This band of cloud, though, was a weather front. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
A weak affair, it brought more cloud as it pushed south and east, and it | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
introduced fresher air following on behind and a scattering of showers. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:35
That's going to be the theme as we run through Friday. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
A change to hotter weather returning as we move into the weekend. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
But, for the bulk of Friday, central and southern areas dry and sunny. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:45
The south-westerly breeze just driving in | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
a little more cloud and some drizzle and mist across the far north-west | 0:00:47 | 0:00:51
but, with some brightness, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
we could see highs of 20, 21 degrees here, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
23 not out of the question in the south-east corner. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
As we move out of Friday into Saturday, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
things stay relatively quiet and, in fact, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
for the start of the weekend, | 0:01:02 | 0:01:03
that high pressure stays with us across England and Wales, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
all the time just seeing these weather fronts toppling | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
through the top and still producing that breeze, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
that drizzle and also some misty, murky conditions on the coast. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:17
So we start off on Saturday on a mild, murky note to the north-west. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
Lots of sunshine further south, and that is just going to allow | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
those temperatures to climb quite quickly on Saturday, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
and the humidity starts to build. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
So, by the middle of the afternoon, we could potentially see | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
temperatures mid to high 20s not out of the question. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:35
Little bit fresher where the cloud and the breeze sit to | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
the north-west of the Great Glen in particular. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
Spot the difference as we move out of Saturday into Sunday. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Still the high pressure in the driving seat across | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
much of England and Wales. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
Still that weather front trailing across the top, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
but the heat will continue to build. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
On Sunday, potentially somewhere in the south-east could see | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
highs of 29 or 30 degrees, and it really will start to get | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
quite humid and feel uncomfortable out there. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
High UV levels as well - that's worth bearing in mind. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:06
As we move into Monday, it still stays hot, but just watch | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
this area of low pressure trying to build from the south-west. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
So, on Monday, we still could get high 20s, possibly into 30 degrees. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:17
And perhaps the rain not as significant in the far north, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
but that north-easterly breeze just making it feel on the chilly side. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
By the time we get out of Monday into Tuesday, we continue to see | 0:02:23 | 0:02:28
that north-westerly breeze, so it will be chillier in the far north. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
At the same time, we could, with that humidity, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
see a few isolated but sharp thundery downpours | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
develop into the south-east, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
and that's going to be the trend into the longer 6-10 day period. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
A lot of uncertainty about looking ahead. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
But this is the scenario at the moment. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
An area of low pressure moving into the south-west could trigger off | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
some thunderstorms which will drift further north. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
Some of those could be heavy and possibly thundery. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
Now, that low will eventually move north-west, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
amalgamate with another low, potentially pushing in from | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
the Atlantic, and then we're back to this north-westerly pattern | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
with the low up in the north-west and high pressure dominating | 0:03:05 | 0:03:09
down to the south, which basically means we see | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
a return to cloudier, more unsettled breezy conditions to the north-west. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
The best of the sunshine and the heat in the south but, again, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
as the humidity builds, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
that could potentially trigger off some sharp and thundery downpours. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
As I say, a lot of uncertainty about the 6-10 day period. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
We'll firm up on those details tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
