It's been a week of settled, summerlike weather for most of us,

0:00:020:00:05

with little significant rainfall yet again across the country.

0:00:050:00:07

The reason being the position

0:00:070:00:09

of the Jet Stream, which is sat out

0:00:090:00:11

in the Atlantic, a defined kink,

0:00:110:00:13

drifting or deflecting low pressures

0:00:130:00:15

up into the north-west

0:00:150:00:16

and that's where we've seen

0:00:160:00:18

some outbreaks of drizzly rain.

0:00:180:00:19

As we move into the weekend,

0:00:190:00:21

the Jet Stream evens out a little.

0:00:210:00:22

We'll see the weather improving

0:00:220:00:24

a touch for central and southern Scotland,

0:00:240:00:26

high pressure certainly the main headline story

0:00:260:00:29

for the weather.

0:00:290:00:30

That's going to drag up this very hot air

0:00:300:00:33

from the Azores.

0:00:330:00:34

We're likely to see temperatures

0:00:340:00:35

across parts of Iberia

0:00:350:00:37

peaking in the mid-40s

0:00:370:00:38

over the weekend.

0:00:380:00:39

That means, potentially,

0:00:390:00:41

the mid-30s across France and that means,

0:00:410:00:43

for central and southern parts of England and Wales,

0:00:430:00:45

we could see high 20s - maybe, in some spots,

0:00:450:00:48

in excess of 30 degrees plus.

0:00:480:00:51

We start off on Saturday, then,

0:00:510:00:52

hardly a cloud in the sky across England and Wales.

0:00:520:00:55

Again, that south-westerly breeze

0:00:550:00:57

driving in moisture, drizzly rain

0:00:570:00:59

to the north-west of the Great Glen

0:00:590:01:00

and some misty conditions here.

0:01:000:01:02

Temperatures a little more disappointing,

0:01:020:01:04

but we could see high 20s, possibly,

0:01:040:01:06

across much of the south-east.

0:01:060:01:09

The high stays with us.

0:01:090:01:10

It's going to be a pretty humid night,

0:01:100:01:12

Saturday into Sunday morning.

0:01:120:01:14

Still that weather front up into the north-west,

0:01:140:01:16

and we could see some misty, murky conditions

0:01:160:01:19

along west-facing coasts

0:01:190:01:20

first thing on Sunday morning.

0:01:200:01:22

It's going to be a pretty sticky night,

0:01:220:01:23

difficult for trying to get a good night's sleep,

0:01:230:01:26

11 to 18 degrees, the lows.

0:01:260:01:27

Again, those temperatures will plummet up

0:01:270:01:30

as we go through the day,

0:01:300:01:31

particularly with plenty of sunshine

0:01:310:01:33

and little in the way of fair-weather cloud.

0:01:330:01:36

Dragging in that drizzle up into the north-west,

0:01:360:01:39

poor visibility along the coast here.

0:01:390:01:41

14 or 15 degrees,

0:01:410:01:42

but into eastern Scotland,

0:01:420:01:44

we'll start to see some warmth coming through,

0:01:440:01:46

low 20s, possibly 30 degrees

0:01:460:01:47

likely in the south-east corner.

0:01:470:01:50

As we move out of Sunday into Monday,

0:01:500:01:52

some subtle variations - this weather front

0:01:520:01:54

will slowly start to drift its way

0:01:540:01:56

back south again,

0:01:560:01:57

so that's going to introduce more

0:01:570:01:59

in the way of cloud across Scotland

0:01:590:02:00

and Northern Ireland, some showery outbreaks

0:02:000:02:02

of rain, potentially, as well.

0:02:020:02:04

We still keep the heat across England and Wales.

0:02:040:02:06

Just a slim chance, maybe,

0:02:060:02:07

of seeing an isolated thunderstorm crop up,

0:02:070:02:10

but with the sunshine,

0:02:100:02:11

we keep the heat, 30 degrees.

0:02:110:02:13

The fresher conditions starting to creep

0:02:130:02:15

a little bit further south,

0:02:150:02:17

and that'll be the story as we move out

0:02:170:02:19

of Monday into Tuesday.

0:02:190:02:20

That front sinks south.

0:02:200:02:21

A weak affair, but it's a cold front.

0:02:210:02:23

It's going to introduce fresher air

0:02:230:02:24

across the country, particularly running in

0:02:240:02:27

off the North Sea, with more cloud here,

0:02:270:02:29

and so across those east coasts,

0:02:290:02:31

temperatures will drop a few degrees.

0:02:310:02:33

But we still keep the heat down to the south,

0:02:330:02:35

fresher to the north.

0:02:350:02:36

As we move out of Tuesday into Wednesday,

0:02:360:02:39

low pressure starts to push in from the Atlantic,

0:02:390:02:41

so there's potential on Wednesday

0:02:410:02:43

of seeing, maybe, more of a significant breakdown,

0:02:430:02:46

with some thundery detail.

0:02:460:02:48

So moving into Northern Ireland

0:02:480:02:49

and into west-facing coasts

0:02:490:02:51

by the end of the day on Wednesday.

0:02:510:02:54

Here, 13 to 18 degrees.

0:02:540:02:55

A little bit fresher, as well, further south,

0:02:550:02:57

mid 20s possible.

0:02:570:02:59

Further ahead, the six- to ten-day period,

0:02:590:03:01

into next weekend, it looks likely

0:03:010:03:03

that the high pressure may drift off

0:03:030:03:05

into the near continent,

0:03:050:03:06

allowing to open the door

0:03:060:03:08

for low pressures to move in from the Atlantic.

0:03:080:03:10

A lot of uncertainty on this,

0:03:100:03:11

but if that happens,

0:03:110:03:12

we could see more significant rainfall,

0:03:120:03:15

some thunderstorms developing from the west.

0:03:150:03:17

So it looks likely that things may well turn

0:03:170:03:19

a little more unsettled,

0:03:190:03:21

the risk of some sharp, thundery showers

0:03:210:03:23

and certainly it will turn noticeably fresher.

0:03:230:03:26

That's a long way off. Enjoy your weekend, bye-bye.
