The mercury has been rising, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
temperatures have been climbing | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
and the hot weather's that's developed | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
across many parts of the country will have staying power. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
It's going to be a struggle | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
to bring those temperatures down | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
over the next few days. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:13
That was the view a little earlier on | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
from one of our Weather Watchers | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
in central London. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:17
If you wanted relief from the heat, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
the coast was the place to head - | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
sea breezes which have been bringing | 0:00:21 | 0:00:22
the temperatures down a little bit | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
along the immediate coastal strip. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
Different weather across northern Scotland on Saturday. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
Here, there was more cloud. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
You can see it here on the satellite picture. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
A very slow-moving weather front | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
even brought some rain into the far north-west. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
During Sunday, well, spot the difference. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
The weather front is still sitting in place. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
This front isn't moving anywhere quickly. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
What that means is Sunday will bring | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
yet more cloud with some patchy rain | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
across the north-west of Scotland. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
Some of that cloud into Northern Ireland, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
eastern and southern Scotland, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
but across the bulk of England and Wales, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
it is another hot and sunny day. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
Temperatures easily climbing | 0:00:57 | 0:00:58
into the mid- to high 20s in many areas, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
always that bit cooler closer to the coast, you'll notice. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
24 degrees in Brighton, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
but inland, spots across the south-east | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
could well get up to 31, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
maybe 32 degrees Celsius. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
The hot sunshine extends | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
across much of northern England. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:13
The north coast of Northern Ireland | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
seeing more cloud, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
that extending into southern and eastern Scotland | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
and this band of rain progressing | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
ever so slowly southwards | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
across the western side of Scotland. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
Here's the cloud, here's the rain - | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
our weather front really not moving anywhere much | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
through Sunday night and on into Monday. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Another very, very warm and muggy night | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
to come further south, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
particularly there in the centre of London, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
maybe no lower than 20 degrees. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
Monday - more of the same, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
more hot sunshine | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
across England and Wales. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:42
This hot weather could just spark off | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
the odd isolated thunderstorm, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
the vast majority staying dry. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
31 degrees, our band of cloud and patchy rain | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
still not making much progress | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
southwards across Scotland. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Now, to the north of that weather front, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
that band of cloud and patchy rain, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
there is some fresher air | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
and with the flow of winds | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
around this area of high pressure, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
we're going to try to bring some of that fresher air | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
further south on Tuesday, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
but it will be something of a struggle. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
All we're really going to do | 0:02:11 | 0:02:12
is push the hottest conditions | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
a little bit further west. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Parts of south-west England, Wales | 0:02:15 | 0:02:16
won't be too far away from 30 degrees. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
That could give the odd shower | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
or thunderstorm here and there. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Tuesday night into Wednesday, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
high pressure still with us. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
An easterly wind and then a southerly wind | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
across the western side of the British Isles | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
and that's going to take the heat | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
and try to move it northwards again | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
so parts of western Scotland | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
at this stage getting into | 0:02:33 | 0:02:34
some pretty warm weather. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
Notice, though, that slightly fresher feel | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
in eastern areas. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
Now, through Wednesday night into Thursday, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
you start to see a bit of a change, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:42
a frontal system moving in | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
and this is a warm front. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:45
It's likely to bring some outbreaks of rain, | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
the rain possibly heavy and thundery. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
What it will also do, though, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
for some of us is bring a return | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
of some very warm air. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
It could get to 30 again in the south-east, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
always that bit cooler and fresher | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
up towards the north-west. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
And then as we head through the end of the week, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
I don't expect the weather chart | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
will look quite like this, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
but it does look likely | 0:03:04 | 0:03:05
that we're going to see an area of low pressure | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
becoming quite slow moving | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
across northern areas of the British Isles | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
and what that will do | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
is bring us more of a westerly wind | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
from the Atlantic, bringing some fresher air | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
across just about all parts of the country. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
That will bring us cooler days, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
some fresher and perhaps more comfortable nights | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
with a mixture of sunshine and showers | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
so eventually we should budge the heat | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
and temperatures should start to drop. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30 |
