Hello there. Last week was all about the heat, the high temperatures. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:07
This week, at least so far, has been about the rain. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
And in 24 hours, some parts of the UK have had | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
a month's worth of rain already, Middle Wallop for one in Hampshire. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:16
But at Santon Downham in Suffolk, 90 millimetres, | 0:00:16 | 0:00:20
getting on for four inches of rain. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
Not just wet here in the UK, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
but large parts of central and western Europe have seen some very | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
stormy weather, a lot of rain and some flooding in places, as well. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:31
Now, we haven't had the thunderstorms, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:32
but we've still got the rain keeping going, actually, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
and this area of low pressure actually is pushing that | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
wetter weather further north, so we're going to find | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
a change in the weather for Scotland and eventually for Northern Ireland. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
The wetter weather setting in across a good part of mainland | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
Scotland, pushing its way westwards across Northern Ireland. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
Still some patchy, lighter rain for northern England, and to the | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
south one or two showers around. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
Still a lot of cloud, but perhaps a hint of sunshine in the south-east, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
where temperatures should be a little bit higher on Thursday. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
But 13 or 14 under the wind and rain across the northern half of | 0:01:01 | 0:01:05
the UK is really quite poor. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
And into the evening, it doesn't really get any better. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
Here, the rain continues overnight, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
but it does tend to become a little lighter, a little more patchy, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
I think, across northern and western parts of the UK. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
Signs of some clearer skies, perhaps some breaks in the cloud, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
coming into the south-east of England, where temperatures | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
no lower than 14 or 15 degrees overnight. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
Some sunshine, here, perhaps, on Friday. That'll be a welcome change. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
But we've still got that cold wind | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
and some rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
Not as wet on Friday, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
that rain pushing further into England and Wales, but ahead of it | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
some warmth in the south-east could trigger one or two heavy showers. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
It's a low pressure, though, that's been bringing the rain, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
and that is going to slip away from the UK, at least for a while, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
and this weather front will push that rain south-eastwards, towards | 0:01:45 | 0:01:49
the south-east of England, early on Saturday morning, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
so starting with a few spots of rain but soon brightening up. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Some sunshine coming through, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:56
and for most of us Saturday is going to be a dry day. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
It'll feel a bit warmer in the sunshine, as well. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
There is going to be a weather front bringing some rain in from | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
the north-west during the evening and overnight, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
but it doesn't really hang about, and many southern areas | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
of the UK will probably miss the rain altogether. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
And again, brightening up across many areas on Sunday, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
some sunshine, just one or two showers | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
mostly across Scotland and Northern Ireland, where it's going to | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
be windy, those winds touching gale force, perhaps, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
around some coastal areas. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
But again, this sort of drier theme you can see on Monday, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
and a bit warmer, as well, highs of 23 degrees or so, but we will | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
see some rain, I suspect, coming into Northern Ireland and Scotland. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
An area of low pressure bringing that wetter weather for the | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
beginning of the week, but higher pressure towards the south, and | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
that's going to be a theme, I think, during the course of next week, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
very different to what we've been seeing recently. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
This is the jet stream, of course, | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
and it's been in this sort of position, very bowed and | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
buckled, and the rain has been quite slow-moving and particularly heavy. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:56
The jet stream by early next week looks very different in terms | 0:02:56 | 0:03:00
of its orientation - a strengthening jet propagating across the Atlantic | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
will move things on a little bit more quickly across the UK. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
We're always going to keep the colder air towards the far | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
north, mainly up towards Iceland, actually. Warmer air, though, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
is trying to nudge in from the south into southern and | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
eastern areas of the UK. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
So we end up with this sort of split, really, next week. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
More likely to get some rain in the north-west, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
much drier towards the south-east. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
I think many parts of the country next week should be a bit warmer, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
particularly in the sunshine. That's it from me. Goodbye. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31 |
