Hello. No doubt about it, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:04
the weather has taken a turn for the unsettled, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
and quite a dramatic turn at that. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
Quite a few of us have seen thunderstorms | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
over the last day or so. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:13
That was the early hours of Wednesday at Reigate, in Surrey. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
Later on Wednesday, the rain set in | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
across northwest England, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
and also North Wales, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
where, in places, there was enough rain | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
in a short space of time to give some issues with flooding. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
I'm not expecting anything quite as dramatic as that | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
over the next few days, but low pressure will be in charge, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
so things will stay unsettled. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
To settle things down, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
we would need to see high pressure, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
but it is way down here, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
over the Azores. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
We're keeping an eye on that area | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
of high pressure during this forecast | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
to see if we can bring it | 0:00:48 | 0:00:49
any closer to the British Isles. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
For Thursday, some showery rain to clear away from eastern parts | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
first thing, then a fair amount of sunshine, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
some more rain into the west | 0:00:57 | 0:00:58
later on, and a cooler, fresher feel to the weather, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
16 degrees in Aberdeen, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
perhaps up to 22 in London. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
During Thursday night and into Friday, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
things will turn quite windy in the west, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
some outbreaks of rain beginning to push in, heavy rain at that. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:14
Staying dry for the time being from eastern Scotland | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
down towards East Anglia and the southeast. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
I think these eastern parts will stay dry during Friday, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
because an area of low pressure sliding its way in | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
isn't going to be making very quick progress at all. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
It'll just sit around across the western side of the British Isles, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:32
bringing rain for much of the day | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
across Wales, the southwest, the West Midlands and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
Still that cooler, fresher feel for most of us. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
So what happens to our area of high pressure? | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
For the start of the weekend, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
it stays stranded down to the southwest, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
and low pressure is in charge, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
just pin-wheeling around across the country. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
That means there'll be spells of rain, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
heavy and perhaps thundery showers, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
some sunny intervals as well, | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
temperatures around 15 to 21 degrees. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
Low pressure remains with us | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
right through into Sunday. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
Notice the isobars becoming a little more widely spaced. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
That means the winds will be a bit lighter, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
but it also means where showers crop up on Sunday, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
they'll be quite slow moving. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
They could give you quite a lot of rain, 16 to 23 degrees. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
During Sunday night into Monday, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
our area of low pressure will drift a little bit further eastwards | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
and we start to see our area of high pressure | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
trying to work its way in. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
It certainly extends up the western side of the country, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:35
and gradually, that will settle things down a little bit - | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
fewer showers, more dry weather, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
but north or north-easterly winds, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
so it will feel rather cool. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
So our high pressure trying to | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
build its way in, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
but watch what happens as we get deeper into the week. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
It retreats south-westwards again. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
We don't bring in the high across the country or settle things down. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
In fact, later in the week, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
the jet stream, which drives all our weather systems around the world, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:02
is likely to strengthen, working from west to east, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
and this could well spin up some deeper areas of low pressure, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
turning things increasingly wet and windy, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
but those winds beginning to come in from a south-westerly direction, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
so that might just lift the temperatures a little bit. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
So through next week, as our high pressure tries to work in, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
it'll turn drier for a time, rather cool initially, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
rain returning later, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
but as that happens, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
those temperatures coming up a bit, | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
so changeable in the coming days. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30
30 vocal groups clashed in choral combat - | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
six survivors now face their toughest battles yet | 0:03:36 | 0:03:38
in the live final. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:40
