27/07/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello there. The weather charts for the next ten days

don't exactly scream summer scorcher to me,

and even as we head deeper into August,

there's increasing uncertainty,

maybe dictated by what's happening

out in the Pacific at the moment.

Over the past few days,

we've had as many as six storms at any one time.

They will have different impacts

on the jet stream to the north of the Pacific.

The impacts they have

will ultimately impact our jet stream.

Which, at the moment, I think,

for many of you over the coming days

could do with a bit of a shake up,

because it's setting its stall.

It's taking a staycation for the UK, I think,

over the next few days.

Mainly to the south of the UK.

That puts us on the cooler side of the jet,

so temperatures lower than they should be.

This sort of weather chart will become typical

with low pressure centred to the northwest of us.

So this is it for Thursday.

Low pressure there off the coast

of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Windiest conditions close to that low pressure system.

Showers to begin the day here.

Elsewhere, dry start to Thursday,

but the shower clouds get going,

pushing from west to east on quite a brisk breeze.

The breeze means the showers push through,

so at any one spot, maybe only a short space of time

through the day,

you see the wettest of the weather.

One or two just about avoiding the showers.

You'd be very lucky if you do.

Temperatures with the showers come through,

down on what they should be -

mid-teens for some of you.

Then keep an eye on this.

This will be rumbling around the southern portion

of our driving low pressure system for Friday.

That dictates the weather to begin with.

Frequent showers to the north and west.

Gusty winds as well - touching gale force across

the Highlands and the Hebrides.

Bit of a breeze further south,

but the showers through the morning suppressed

as that little developing area of low pressure

pushes its way in,

bringing more prolonged rain

across Wales and southern England.

Maybe the Midlands by the time we end Friday.

Some heavier bursts of rain to go with that.

That will work its way eastwards

across much of England

as we finish Friday

and go through Friday night.

It could be quite a wet spell

for England and Wales.

Notice our low pressure system doesn't move.

Then another little system

pushing around the southern flank of it.

That should hopefully stay clear for Saturday.

Saturday back forward to a more straight-forward

picture of sunshine and showers.

As that weather front clears away for Saturday,

it may help to keep away some of the showers

from East Anglia and the southeast.

Stops the shower clouds from bubbling up,

so some longer drier spells here.

Pleasant enough in the sunshine.

It's crucial just how close that weather front is to us

as we go into Sunday.

That system I showed running around, driving low,

could bring further showers into the west through Sunday.

East Anglia and southeast,

you might just about get away with it.

Sunshine and showers really across the board once again.

It's that story of some of you

just about avoiding them,

some may stay part of the day dry.

When the showers come through,

it will feel distinctly cool.

Less potency to our low pressure system

as we go through into Monday.

In fact, the wind's not as strong.

There will still be some showers around,

but with the winds less strong,

it means they'll be slower moving.

They'll be with you for a longer spell of time.

But it does mean more of you

will avoid the showers through the day.

Once you do, that strong chance of sunshine overhead

should make up for the rather cool air mass that's with us.

But, really, as we go into next week,

little changes.

The jet stream is still with us.

It probably has a bit more of a meandering pattern.

That could mean that low pressures get stuck

to the west of us a bit more.

We might drag in slightly warmer air

every now and again,

but overall the story is the same into next week

with low pressure close by.

Yes, we will see the sunshine at times.

It's August sunshine, strong sunshine.

That will add a bit of warmth to the days,

but throughout we'll have to be on guard

for further spells of rain.

The breeze picking up at times.

When there's showers,

the breeze is with you.
