Hello there. Looks like remaining very changeable this month, | 0:00:00 | 0:00:04
and well into next month as well. Let's not forget, though, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
at this time of the year, when the sun does come out, | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
it will feel warm, as it did in between the showers here | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
in Stevenage in Hertfordshire on Thursday. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
But the showers are never too far away. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
They came all of a sudden with some hail and thunder - | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
a good day for spotting some rainbows. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
Lots of showers, then, earlier on. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:24
The one constant over the next few days is going to be | 0:00:24 | 0:00:28
this area of low pressure to the north-west of Scotland, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
and around the base of that low pressure | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
we're going to feed in these clusters of cloud | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
that will bring us some spells of rain. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
Now, we start the day generally dry across England and Wales | 0:00:36 | 0:00:40
with some sunshine in the morning. It looks like it will cloud over | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
and we'll start to see some rain arriving from the south-west. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
The timing, the northward extent of the rain still in doubt. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
Showers more likely further north, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
especially across Scotland and Northern Ireland, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
but warm enough in the sunshine. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Temperatures in eastern England 21 or so. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
But that rain looks like it will develop more widely quite quickly, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:02
that first pulse of rain in those weather systems | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
driving across much of England and Wales, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
quite heavy rain for a while, but it doesn't last too long, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
and we've still got that area of low pressure to the north-west. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
There is still a trailing area of rain | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
that at the moment looks like it's mainly out in the English Channel, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
but it's likely to come back in again, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
not just in the extreme south-east of England | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
but for many southern areas too. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
And then there's a slice of much drier weather for the weekend | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
for Wales, the Midlands, Northern England, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
where there'll be very few showers, some warm sunshine. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
Showers more likely across Scotland and Northern Ireland, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
where they'll be closer to that persistent area of low pressure. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
This weather system here has got to get its act together, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
probably, again, as we head into the evening, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
to push some heavier rain eastwards across England and Wales. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
Again, it doesn't last too long. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
Again, we've still got that area of low pressure. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
So whilst we see the back of the overnight rain, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
we're going to start the day with lots of showers out to the west, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
some heavy, with some hail and thunder, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
and those showers will push their way eastwards through the day, | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
where temperatures could get as high as 21 Celsius or so. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
That low pressure still there towards the north-west - | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
if anything, it's drifting closer to Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
Around the southern edge of that, there'll be some blustery winds, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
but probably not that many showers | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
across the bulk of England and Wales. Some sunshine here. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
But slower-moving, heavier showers for Northern Ireland, Scotland, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:22
and perhaps the far north of England | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
where temperatures are again struggling to 17 or 18 degrees. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
And even into Tuesday, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
there'll still be a mixture of sunshine and showers. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
Again, some heavier ones towards the north-west, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
but this time, we could see more showers across England and Wales. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
And those temperatures again, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
17 in the north, 22, perhaps, in the south-east. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
There's a ridge of high pressure tantalisingly close, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
however, this is more dominant as we head into the middle of next week. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:49
Big area of low pressure coming in from the Atlantic | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
and more waiting in the wings too. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
So as we head further into next week, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
we've got the jet stream in this sort of position. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
Most of the UK is going to be on the cooler side of that jet stream, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:02
and the jet stream will pick up these areas of low pressure | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
and drive them across the UK. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
So what does that mean? Well, basically it means | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
it's going to remain very mixed. We'll alternate, probably, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
between days of sunshine and showers, which could be quite heavy, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17
whereas other days will see some spells of rain | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
and for much of the time it may be quite windy | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
and it will stay on the rather cool side as well. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
Not what we would hope for or expect at this time of the year. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28 |
