Hello. There is a glimmer of hope on the horizon, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
but before we get there, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
much of the forecast is going to be dominated by low pressure, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:10
and the dominant low pressure over the next few days | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
is going to remain as it is right now | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
towards the north-west of the UK. Around the base of that low pressure | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
we're seeing these waving weather fronts | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
bringing pulses of cloud and rain. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
One area of rain overnight, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
never really clears away from the southern coast of England | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
and starts to push northwards again on Saturday. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
For much of the day, Wales, Midlands, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
East Anglia and Northern England | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
just seeing one or two showers and some sunshine, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
the better day of the weekend. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
And back northwards, closer to the low pressure, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
we've still got the showers, particularly in Scotland - | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
some heavy ones here, and those temperatures very similar | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
to the past few days. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
Now, this rain is developing, it's on this weather front here. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
The wave on it is responsible for the developing rain | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
which looks like it will push northwards into England and Wales | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
on Saturday evening. Overnight, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
it sweeps away with some stronger winds. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
We still have that low pressure towards the north-west. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
So we're back to square one, almost, on Sunday - sunshine and showers. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
Initially quite a few showers across western areas, some of them heavy, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
with some hail and thunder, and those should push their way | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
eastwards through the day on that freshening breeze. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
Probably not that many showers | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
across the south-east corner of England, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
and it's here we'll see the best temperatures. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
Otherwise, 17 or 18 degrees - not that impressive | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
for this time of the year. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:22
Still got low pressure in charge, not just on Sunday | 0:01:22 | 0:01:26
but into Monday as well, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
and it's sitting very close to Scotland and Northern Ireland | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
around the base of that. There's still some stronger winds | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
across England and Wales in particular, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
where we could see a few showers, particularly across North Wales | 0:01:35 | 0:01:39
and north-west England, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
and probably more showers to come across Scotland and Northern Ireland | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
closer to the centre of that low pressure. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
Again, temperatures 17 to about 22 degrees, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
those numbers not really changing very much over the next few days. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
Low pressure still around as we head into Tuesday, but it's filling. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
You can get a sense of that because the number of isobars is reducing | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
so pressure is rising across that low. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
So the area's less unstable, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
so whilst we'll find a mixture of sunshine and showers on Tuesday, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
the showers should be fewer, the showers should be lighter, | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
more places will be dry, and it may start to feel | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
just a little bit warmer as well. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
Now, there is some warmer air trying to come our way | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
from the near-Continent. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:18
Trouble is, whilst many eastern areas on Wednesday may be dry | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
with some sunshine, out to the west we've got freshening winds | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
and some rain on the way. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
And that's because it's a big area of low pressure heading our way. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
That will push some wetter, windier weather across all areas | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
around the middle part of the week, and then the low pressure | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
will sit very close to Scotland for a few days after that. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Recently, we've had a jet stream in this sort of position, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
and that's where it's going to be later on next week, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
hence low pressure, hence not particularly warm, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
and hence the threat of some rain. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
But we're going to find this jet stream buckling, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
more amplification, and probably heading northwards, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
so the lower pressure we've got in the middle of the week | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
by next weekend fades away | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
and slowly but surely, coming in from the south-west, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
it looks like we'll see an area of high pressure building. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
How quickly, and how far north it gets, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
that's difficult to say at this stage. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
We'll have a better idea over the coming few days. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
But the weather will change - we'll see less of this, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
like we saw actually on Friday, heavy showers | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
and some thunderstorms, and a bit more of this. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
There was some sunshine around on Friday. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
We'll see more of that next weekend, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
and of course, with the sunshine, it should feel a bit warmer. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
That's it from me - enjoy your weekend. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29 |
