30/07/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Let's see what the weather is up to over the next few days.

It's been a while since the weather was nice and settled

and sunny, warm and dry.

It's been very unsettled in the last few days

and the rest of the weekend and into next week looks no different.

This was earlier on on Saturday,

a weather front pushed in from the south bringing some heavy rain.

By the time we get to Sunday lunchtime the

low pressure is out

in the North Sea and in the wake of that low we've got a stream of quite

strongish winds.

Quite blustery conditions and lots of showers

so showers galore on Sunday.

Some of them will be heavy, one or two might be torrential,

maybe some cracks of thunder.

But some across the south-east may miss them altogether

and it ends up being a fine day,

for example, in Kent and Sussex.

Sunday night into Monday,

still some showers around carried by that south-westerly breeze.

Most of them will be in western areas, eastern areas will be dryer.

So that's the end of the weekend. How about the week ahead?

Guess what, more showers on the way.

It's going to stay on the cool side

and will also be on the breezy side as well.

Let's have a look at the forecast map for Monday.

Low pressure still in charge,

in fact that was the one over the weekend.

This is linked to it, another one coming in.

Effecting northern parts of Scotland in particular here.

Most of the showers will be in the north and north-western areas but

throughout the day we'll see further ones getting into south-western

parts of England, through the Midlands into northern England

and again we could see one or two cracks of thunder here or there.

Overall it is going to be a relatively fine

day for most of us, if you miss the showers.

Monday a little unsettled but could be worse.

Monday night into Tuesday that low pressure starts to pull away.

The weather will start to settle down ahead of this next one

here so almost a window of slightly better weather to come on Tuesday.

Still some showers around.

The best of the weather, I suspect, will be

around the eastern counties, East Anglia and the south-east.

It will feel warmest here too because the winds will be lighter.

On balance a decent enough day.

Tuesday night into Wednesday that low pressure

out in the Atlantic starts to nudge in but it's still quite far away.

It will take time before it nudges in

so by the time we get to the middle part of the day,

the rain starts moving into Wales, south-western parts of England so

many of these counties having a bit of brightness before this

rain piles through into Thursday and Thursday morning looks like

the main area of rain is eastern Scotland out into the North Sea.

Then we've got this blustery wind once again bringing some showers.

Low pressure very much in charge of our weather as we go through

the course of the week.

Into the weekend looks like things are settling down.

Looks like there's a high pressure here.

Actually the jet stream is right over us during the course

of the weekend so that spells

unsettled weather once again.

Be prepared for some showers

through the weekend.

There are hints that as we go

beyond that, low pressures will be

steered to the north and high pressure will start to build

and that's mostly good news.

If you want dry and sunny weather this is good news.

So things look like they will finally be settling down.

How dominant this high is going to be,

how much it will be an influence across the UK is a little bit

too uncertain but the basic message is the best

of the weather will be in the south, always a few showers in the north.
