Well, it's been quite a turbulent few days on the weather front, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
lots of vicious showers, gusty winds as well, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
and quite often in our climate, once the weather gets going across | 0:00:07 | 0:00:11
the Atlantic, once we develop this really unsettled weather, | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
with lots of low pressures coming in, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:15
it often stays like that for a while. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
So, Sunday, we will have seen lots of showers across the country. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:22
Here's a satellite image from earlier on, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
with the low pressure to the north-west of us, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
and the reason why I'm showing this to you is | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
because on Monday we're going to see a very similar picture. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
But also were going to get some sunshine just like on Sunday, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
so Monday will also bring blue skies, not just big downpours. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:38
So I've already set the scene as far as this week is concerned. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
There's no real sign of prolonged dry weather. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
And the reason for it is that Jet stream, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
very powerful jet stream, that sends weather systems in our direction. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
And, actually, these low pressures have origins just off the eastern | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
seaboard of the United States there, and also Canada, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
and that jet stream, for as long it's making a beeline for the UK, | 0:00:56 | 0:01:00
that's when we get those weather systems coming in. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
So let's have a closer look then across our part of the world, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
here's Monday's weather forecast. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
So, low pressure - still the same one that we will have had on Sunday, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
still to the north-west of our neighbourhood, generating | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
some showers, even through the early hours of Monday morning. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
And actually in some spots pretty chilly. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
Temperatures in rural areas, first thing on Monday, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
around five degrees. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:21
But we often show you the towns and cities. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
So here's Monday morning, then. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
Start's off actually really sunny across many eastern, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
central and southern areas. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
A fair old breeze around these coastal areas here, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
and with that low pressure, for as long as it's here, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
those showers will keep being blown in by that wind | 0:01:34 | 0:01:38
and some of them heavy and thundery as well. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
Now, as far as the temperatures go, actually, they're not that bad. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
In London, the average is 23. We're getting 23 on Monday. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
In Belfast, the average is 19. And we are forecasting 19 on Monday. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:52
So when I say that summer's on hold, it really is - | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
the dry and sunny weather that we'd like that's on hold. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
Temperatures are about where they should be. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
So here's Tuesday's weather forecast. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
There is little area of low pressure across northern Scotland | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
and parts of northern Ireland. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
This is where we will see most of the showers on Tuesday. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
But perhaps a bit of a break from the showers across some south... | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
central and south-eastern areas. But still maybe a few sneaking through. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
And then it changes on Wednesday because we have a bigger area, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
a more substantial area of low pressure on the way. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
What does that mean? | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
That means extensive cloud and continuous outbreaks of rain, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
rather than on and off showers, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
moving into south-western parts of England, Wales, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
and then eventually Northern Ireland. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
This is really early in the morning. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:34
And then quickly through the afternoon, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
that rain is going to be spreading towards eastern areas. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
So perhaps Hull and Newcastle hanging onto some of that | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
sunshine early in the day. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
And then Wednesday night into Thursday, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
that weather front will have pushed through the UK, | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
and then behind it, again, we've got showers and a fair old wind as well. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
So that's Thursday. How about the end of the week? | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
I showed you the jet stream at the start. Here's the jet stream. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
Again you can see it's making a beeline for the UK, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
so once again any sort of disturbances in the weather forming | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
across the Atlantic will be shunted in our direction straightaway. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
And here is the weekend, next weekend, that is. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
Low pressure close by, but look at this... | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
we're starting to see a high pressure, possibly nosing in. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
In about 8 to 10 days' time, so beyond the following weekend. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:19
However, it does look as though that high pressure | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
may not have a massive influence. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:22
It could be the case that low pressure, once again, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
returns to northern parts of the UK. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
Stay tuned. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
