Hello again. Over the next ten days, I doubt we're going to find | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
the weather lurching from one extreme to another | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
quite as we have done over the last day or two. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
Now, this was London on Wednesday and remember the day before | 0:00:09 | 0:00:13
in the south-east of England, the temperature was 29 degrees. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
Well, on Wednesday, thanks to the cloud and rain, London, | 0:00:16 | 0:00:20
Reading and Ipswich were only 14 degrees | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
and it should be nearer 19 or 20 at this time of the year. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
Elsewhere, across the UK, those numbers were nearer the | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
average for the end of the month and we'll see those sort of | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
temperatures over the coming few days. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
After the rain, we've got sunshine and showers, really, | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
on Thursday. Many eastern parts of England starting dry | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
but the showers will arrive here through the afternoon, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
quite slow-moving, heavy, potentially with some hail and | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
thunder - temperatures about 17 or 18 but quite a bit warmer | 0:00:45 | 0:00:49
across the south-east and East Anglia than it was | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
on Wednesday. Those showers continue across eastern areas | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
through the evening and then they'll probably tend to | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
fade away overnight. And with little or no breeze around | 0:00:57 | 0:01:01
and clear skies, it's going to be quite cold. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
Those are the numbers in the towns and cities | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
but five, six degrees quite likely in some rural areas. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:09
Now as we move towards the end of the week, in time for the weekend, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
we are going to start to push up this area of high pressure | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
from the Atlantic and that kills off most of the showers, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
so for most of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
and the western parts of England, it may well be dry on Friday. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
Showers - very hit and miss, mind you - more likely | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
across eastern parts of England. Even here, many places will | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
still be dry, to end the week. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
And we've got those familiar temperatures again, these are the | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
average sort of temperatures we'd expect at this time of the year. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
And of course, we are now moving into September, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
Friday into Saturday that ridge of high pressure beginning | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
to retreat a little bit because look at what's coming in | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
from the Atlantic - that's going to change things eventually. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
Still a fine day for most places on Saturday, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
some warm sunshine around after another chilly start. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
We've got more cloud and more breeze beginning to arrive | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
across Northern Ireland, perhaps the north-west of Scotland as well, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
where temperatures are about 17 degrees. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
Warmer in the sunshine further south and east. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
And then as we move overnight into the second half of the weekend, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
this is where we start to see some significant changes | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
because as well as the wind picking up, we've got these | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
weather fronts moving in and that will bring some rain initially | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
across the western side of the UK. Slowly pushing its way eastwards, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:20
some doubt as to how far east it will get and for most of the day | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
eastern Scotland and eastern England will be dry and bright | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
with some sunshine. We're going to get some tropical | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
air, not from Harvey that was bringing all that rain in Texas, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
but this area of cloud here was a tropical low and it brings | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
with it the rain that we see on Sunday. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
And it brings with it some complications in the forecast. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
It looks like that rain should tend to peter out on Monday | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
but we are left with a lot of cloud and some warmer, more tropical air, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:48
so temperatures will be a bit higher to start next week. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
But there are more weather fronts and bands of rain lurking | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
out in the Atlantic to slowly push into the UK. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
So the longer-range outlook hasn't really changed very much. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:02
We're going to gradually get this Atlantic influence with these | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
bands of rain out towards the north-west erratically | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
moving eastwards across the UK. The strongest winds are | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
going to be across the north-west of the UK | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
but we're going to blow in some warmer nights, thanks to more cloud | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
with those showers or some longer spells of rain. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
Gales are likely in the north-west but towards the south-east | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
always that bit drier. Not much rain and temperatures should be | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
a bit higher as well. Goodbye. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27 |
