Hello again. Over the next ten days, I doubt we're going to find

0:00:020:00:04

the weather lurching from one extreme to another

0:00:040:00:06

quite as we have done over the last day or two.

0:00:060:00:09

Now, this was London on Wednesday and remember the day before

0:00:090:00:13

in the south-east of England, the temperature was 29 degrees.

0:00:130:00:16

Well, on Wednesday, thanks to the cloud and rain, London,

0:00:160:00:20

Reading and Ipswich were only 14 degrees

0:00:200:00:23

and it should be nearer 19 or 20 at this time of the year.

0:00:230:00:26

Elsewhere, across the UK, those numbers were nearer the

0:00:260:00:29

average for the end of the month and we'll see those sort of

0:00:290:00:31

temperatures over the coming few days.

0:00:310:00:34

After the rain, we've got sunshine and showers, really,

0:00:340:00:36

on Thursday. Many eastern parts of England starting dry

0:00:360:00:39

but the showers will arrive here through the afternoon,

0:00:390:00:42

quite slow-moving, heavy, potentially with some hail and

0:00:420:00:45

thunder - temperatures about 17 or 18 but quite a bit warmer

0:00:450:00:49

across the south-east and East Anglia than it was

0:00:490:00:52

on Wednesday. Those showers continue across eastern areas

0:00:520:00:55

through the evening and then they'll probably tend to

0:00:550:00:57

fade away overnight. And with little or no breeze around

0:00:570:01:01

and clear skies, it's going to be quite cold.

0:01:010:01:03

Those are the numbers in the towns and cities

0:01:030:01:05

but five, six degrees quite likely in some rural areas.

0:01:050:01:09

Now as we move towards the end of the week, in time for the weekend,

0:01:090:01:12

we are going to start to push up this area of high pressure

0:01:120:01:14

from the Atlantic and that kills off most of the showers,

0:01:140:01:18

so for most of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales

0:01:180:01:20

and the western parts of England, it may well be dry on Friday.

0:01:200:01:23

Showers - very hit and miss, mind you - more likely

0:01:230:01:26

across eastern parts of England. Even here, many places will

0:01:260:01:29

still be dry, to end the week.

0:01:290:01:31

And we've got those familiar temperatures again, these are the

0:01:310:01:34

average sort of temperatures we'd expect at this time of the year.

0:01:340:01:36

And of course, we are now moving into September,

0:01:360:01:39

Friday into Saturday that ridge of high pressure beginning

0:01:390:01:42

to retreat a little bit because look at what's coming in

0:01:420:01:45

from the Atlantic - that's going to change things eventually.

0:01:450:01:48

Still a fine day for most places on Saturday,

0:01:480:01:50

some warm sunshine around after another chilly start.

0:01:500:01:53

We've got more cloud and more breeze beginning to arrive

0:01:530:01:56

across Northern Ireland, perhaps the north-west of Scotland as well,

0:01:560:01:59

where temperatures are about 17 degrees.

0:01:590:02:01

Warmer in the sunshine further south and east.

0:02:010:02:05

And then as we move overnight into the second half of the weekend,

0:02:050:02:08

this is where we start to see some significant changes

0:02:080:02:11

because as well as the wind picking up, we've got these

0:02:110:02:13

weather fronts moving in and that will bring some rain initially

0:02:130:02:16

across the western side of the UK. Slowly pushing its way eastwards,

0:02:160:02:20

some doubt as to how far east it will get and for most of the day

0:02:200:02:23

eastern Scotland and eastern England will be dry and bright

0:02:230:02:26

with some sunshine. We're going to get some tropical

0:02:260:02:28

air, not from Harvey that was bringing all that rain in Texas,

0:02:280:02:32

but this area of cloud here was a tropical low and it brings

0:02:320:02:36

with it the rain that we see on Sunday.

0:02:360:02:39

And it brings with it some complications in the forecast.

0:02:390:02:41

It looks like that rain should tend to peter out on Monday

0:02:410:02:44

but we are left with a lot of cloud and some warmer, more tropical air,

0:02:440:02:48

so temperatures will be a bit higher to start next week.

0:02:480:02:51

But there are more weather fronts and bands of rain lurking

0:02:510:02:55

out in the Atlantic to slowly push into the UK.

0:02:550:02:58

So the longer-range outlook hasn't really changed very much.

0:02:580:03:02

We're going to gradually get this Atlantic influence with these

0:03:020:03:05

bands of rain out towards the north-west erratically

0:03:050:03:08

moving eastwards across the UK. The strongest winds are

0:03:080:03:12

going to be across the north-west of the UK

0:03:120:03:14

but we're going to blow in some warmer nights, thanks to more cloud

0:03:140:03:17

with those showers or some longer spells of rain.

0:03:170:03:20

Gales are likely in the north-west but towards the south-east

0:03:200:03:22

always that bit drier. Not much rain and temperatures should be

0:03:220:03:25

a bit higher as well. Goodbye.
