05/11/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

We've had some wet weather,

some sunny weather,

some cold weather already this

weekend and we will continue

to see a bit of everything as

we head on through the week ahead.

Sunday starts off

with some showers

and this chilly

north-westerly wind,

but, as this area

of high pressure

starts to build its way

in from the south-west,

things will

settle down.

The showers will

tend to fade away.

They'll take a while

to do so,

an area of showers

drifting southwards

across England

and Wales

right through into

the afternoon,

but for most as

we end the day,

there'll be some good

spells of sunshine,

windy to the south-west, windy

to the north-east

and temperatures

really struggling.

These are the afternoon

highs - 7-11 degrees.

And as we head through

Sunday night -

Bonfire Night,

of course -

it will get very chilly under

these clear skies.

Now, it's where we will

keep the clear skies

in central and

eastern areas

that will see the lowest

of the temperatures.

Quite

a widespread frost,

towns and cities

down to freezing

or just

a touch above,

but in

the countryside,

maybe down all the way to -5

or -6 degrees Celsius

so for some,

we'll start Monday

with a touch of frost,

but a bright start.

Further west, though,

things will be beginning

to change because of

this frontal system.

Now, this front will be

the major player

in our weather,

really, as

we head through

the first part of

the working week,

bringing some

outbreaks of rain,

but the front making very,

very slow progress

so, yes, things

will cloud over

across Northern Ireland,

Western Scotland

and here we will

see some outbreaks

of heavy and

persistent rain,

but not much rain getting into

England and Wales,

here just turning

a little cloudy

and damp in the west

and all the while after

the frosty start,

we'll hold on to some

sunshine all day long

in East Anglia and

the south-east.

So, our front still

drifting slowly

and erratically eastwards

into Tuesday,

wriggling around on top

of the British Isles.

The rain eventually,

though, during Tuesday,

pulling away from Scotland

and Northern Ireland

and then setting in

across northern

and western parts of

England and Wales.

To the south-east,

it'll be windy

and a little bit milder

at this stage -

13 in London, but turning

colder again out west,

just 9 degrees

in Belfast

because this is

a cold front,

introducing colder air,

the front finally,

we suspect,

will clear away

to the east

by the first part

of Wednesday

and then we're back to this area

of high pressure

trying to take

control of things

from the south-west.

So, Wednesday a window

of mainly

fine weather.

There could be some

frost and fog to start,

then some spells of sunshine.

A little bit cooler

at this stage,

9-11 degrees,

but then

it all happens again.

Frontal systems push

back in from the west,

some rain during Wednesday

night into Thursday,

and behind

this cold front,

we get back into

a north-westerly wind

so it will try to bring

some cold air again

across the country.

Probably not as cold

as it is at the moment,

but still cold enough

for any showers

that fall across

northern areas,

particularly Scotland,

to be wintry

over high ground.

Some sleet

and some snow

over the hills

and mountains,

sunshine and showers quite generally

across the country

on what will be a chilly

and a breezy day.

So, the pressure pattern

as we move out of

Thursday into Friday

looks like this. Low pressure

drifting away

and we're back to this

area of high pressure,

trying to

muscle its way in,

so probably

a drier day to come on Friday

and as we head

into next weekend,

the pattern continues.

High pressure at times

exerting

its influence across the country

and at other times,

drifting off to the south-west,

allowing areas of low pressure

to move in from the north-west,

bringing outbreaks of rain.

The wettest weather will always be

towards

the north and the north-west,

still cold enough for some snow

over high ground in Scotland.

Further south and east,

not as much rain

and a better

chance of seeing drier weather.

So, a bit of everything to come

during the week ahead.
