Hello, thanks for joining me.
It's that time again, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
where we take a look at the
forthcoming week in some detail. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
And then we try and give you
a flavour of what's to come | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
in the forthcoming week, although,
as with life, the further ahead | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
you look, the good deal more
uncertain things become. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
In the shorter term, I'm pretty sure
that Tuesday is going to | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
be all about where you are in
relation to that weather front, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
which, as you see, as we unfold
Tuesday, will gradually ease its way | 0:00:22 | 0:00:26
a little bit further
towards the east. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
So that's going to be good
news for Scotland, Northern Ireland | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
and eventually the western
side of Wales and maybe the far west | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
of Cornwall. And you'll notice that,
given the speed of advance, | 0:00:34 | 0:00:38
it's pretty good news for
the far east of East Anglia | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
and the South East, where you won't
see the rain from that front | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
until really quite late on but
if you're anywhere near the | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
spine of the British Isles, you
could be in for a fairly wet day. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:50
As we get on into the wee small
hours of Wednesday, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
that frontal system is still lurking
there across the far east, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
helping to keep the temperatures up
but where the skies clear behind, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:59
Wednesday is going to
start on a bright but frosty note | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
for a good part of the
British Isles. It is but a temporary | 0:01:02 | 0:01:06
ridge of high pressure sandwiched
between what, if you like, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
we'll call Tuesday's weather
and the end of Wednesday's weather | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
trying to get into the north-west of
Scotland, towards Northern Ireland, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
to finish off the day.
In between, as I say, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
there is that prospect of a dry,
fine crisp sort of day. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:22
Temperatures not really responding
too much to that sunshine, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
never better than 9, 10, 11 degrees,
something of that order. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:30
So there we are for Wednesday, with
up in the north-west the first signs | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
of Thursday's rain belt
gradually tumbling in. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
Notice the number of isobars across
the northern parts of Scotland, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
it's fairly wet and windy fare here. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
As we come that little bit
further south, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
the linkage barely discernible
there, the old weather front | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
has just got the odd drib
and drab of rain about it, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
not much more than that. It's a
westerly breeze rather than | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
a north-westerly, though,
so the temperatures for many into | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
double figures.
And we keep that prospect going | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
from Thursday into Friday,
although you'll notice we are really | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
squeezing up the isobars there.
If this all comes to pass, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
Friday could be quite a windy day
but again it's from the west, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
the main belt of rain lying, such
as it is, right across the heart | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
of the British Isles. Another
one across the far north of Scotland | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
but to either side of those
belts of weather, not a bad day. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
A blustery one
but not cold by any means at all. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
Just notice how those
isobars are beginning to crank round | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
a little bit more towards
the north-west as we get on into | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Saturday. So this is a bright,
blustery sort of day. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:30
There will be copious
numbers of showers, though, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
just getting in on the
north-westerly across | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
the north of Scotland,
maybe some there just flirting | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
with the far south-west as well. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
We're rather establishing a pattern
here for the weekend, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
in that it will be dominated
by those north-westerlies, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
perhaps that little ridge of high
pressure just calming | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
things down a touch as we get
on in to Sunday. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
But the major players are beginning
to shape up - | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
low pressure to the
south of Iceland, high pressure down | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
closer towards the Azores.
And it's a bit of an arms race | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
to get in to the British Isles
and be the dominant feature. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
Now, quite who wins out on that
race, at the moment, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
is open to a good
deal of conjecture. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
If the high pressure dominates, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
then things will be a good
deal more settled. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
Frosty starts perhaps, if the sky is
clear but I'm not promising | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
wall-to-wall sunshine,
by any means at all. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
If the low pressure wins out for
more of us, then the atmosphere's | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
much more unsettled and there
will be some cloud, perhaps some | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
wind and certainly the prospect
of more unsettled fare as well. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
I'll be back again
tomorrow, bye-bye. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
