Hello. If you've been watching Weather For The Week Ahead | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
you'll know I've been speaking about next week | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
with a great deal of uncertainty. We're beginning to | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
firm up our ideas and we'll come to that in due course. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
First of all, I speak with some certainty about Wednesday, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
where we're expecting to see quite a cold, frosty start to the day | 0:00:16 | 0:00:20
right through the heart of the British Isles. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
Little bit further to the south and east, more cloud here overnight, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
the odd bit of rain through the day keeping the temperatures up. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
And away towards the north-west, eventually more cloud | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
and wind and rain coming in from the Atlantic. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
But where we had that frosty start | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
I think we'll keep much of that sunshine for much of the day. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
Not doing much for the temperatures, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
but a complete contrast to what many of you suffered | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
during the course of Tuesday. Through Wednesday night, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
we'll just push those frontal systems ever-further | 0:00:45 | 0:00:49
towards the south and east. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
At least all of that cloud tied in with those fronts | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
is going to help to keep the temperatures up, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
so there won't be any scraping of car windscreens | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
as you start the new day on Thursday. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
There are those frontal systems. They'll take time | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
to take their thickest cloud away towards the near Continent. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
Notice the number of isobars there, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
particularly across the northern half of Scotland. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
That's going to be a gale of wind coming in from the west, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
so a relatively mild direction. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
And once the fronts have taken their rain away towards the near Continent | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
nota bad day following on behind. Yes, there'll be some | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
really blustery and squally showers across the north, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
but elsewhere, little bit of brightness come the afternoon. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
Look at this. The temperatures in many locations | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
will in fact be in double figures - not too bad for the time of year. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:31
So here we go into Friday. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
Just notice those isobars beginning to clock around a little bit more | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
towards the north-west, importing slightly fresher air, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
so a brighter day, perhaps, on Friday, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
but the temperatures beginning to suffer as a consequence, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
certainly across northern parts. And here that frontal system still | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
lurking close by to the southern counties of England and Wales. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
Overnight, this is a pulse of really tropical air | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
coming down and across the southern counties of England and Wales, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
and that not a million miles away as we start the weekend. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
But many of us, for the bulk of the weekend, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
will be in something a good deal fresher than | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
something coming from the Tropics, that's for sure. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Because we'll end up with a north-westerly wind | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
sweeping its way right down and across the country. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
So the weekend in a nutshell? Bright and breezy, certainly. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
There will be some showers in the mix, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
and it will feel decidedly colder than the middle part of the week, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:24
especially so on Sunday, and you'll see why in just a second. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
So here is Saturday. Still a fair amount of cloud close by | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
to those frontal systems in the south. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
There, that cold north-westerly just screaming its way | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
down across central and eastern parts of the British Isles. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
Again, notice the number of isobars there. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
But the high pressure just toppling in from the Atlantic, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
tending to settle things in the west. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
I think it's going to be a really blustery, raw sort of day | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
through the Northern Isles, down the east coast | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
and across the rigs as well. Look at that - | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
top temperatures on the day, despite the sunshine, 7, 8 or 9 degrees. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
As we get into the start of next week, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
the major players are beginning to show their hand. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
This high pressure is going to try to dominate the British Isles | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
but not quite doing enough to keep those frontal systems at bay. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
Sometimes they'll be tied in with the low-pressure systems | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
which will try and come in towards the British Isles, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
but the high will be doing its stuff | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
keeping those lows primarily towards northern parts of the British Isles | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
where we're going to see the bulk of the unsettled weather. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Further south, not wall-to-wall sunshine, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
but much more settled fare | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
and maybe some chilly nights to come. Goodnight. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28 |
