Hello. Thanks for joining me. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
We'll take a look in some detail at the next few days or so, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
and on this occasion we'll be trying to look at | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
some of the trends in the latter part of the forthcoming week | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
to see what's going to affect us by that stage. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
In the shorter term, there are a lot of isobars on that chart, | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
especially across the northern half of Scotland | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
where I think there's going to be gale-force wind on Thursday | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
and a copious supply of showers. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
Further south, a dull start for the greater part of England and Wales, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
but eventually, the frontal systems that will have brought that cloud | 0:00:26 | 0:00:30
will slump their way towards the near Continent, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
brighter skies behind them. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
The wind just south of west, perhaps, | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
so double figure temperatures even as far north as Central Scotland. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
Not a bad end to the day. And then overnight | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
we're just going to bring a new set of weather fronts in | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
and again, pretty much a rerun, where we bring those fronts down | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
towards the southern half of the British Isles, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
somewhat clearer skies following on behind, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
still some showers turning wintry | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
across the higher ground of Scotland. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:55
And Friday is all about just trying to push that weather front | 0:00:55 | 0:00:59
down towards the southern shores. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
Quite a few isobars again, so another windy day, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
especially across Scotland. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
But this time the wind is just north of west, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
so a fresher feel, certainly, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
despite the presence of some sunshine. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
A scattering of showers as well. I'm not sure whether that cloud | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
is actually going to get away from that south-western quarter, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
because it's wanting to sort of wave its way back | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
towards the western side of the British Isles | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
and that will bring some rain from Friday into Saturday. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
The weekend will be a bright affair, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
be cold, and there will be a supply of showers, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
especially around about the coasts. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
So that little wave on the weather front | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
just the last perhaps of the relatively mild airs, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
because as we get on through the weekend you'll notice | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
it is pretty much a sea of blue | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
with the air streaming down towards us from the north - | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
never a warm direction. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
So there's that wave - cloud and rain from that a real feature | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
on Friday into Saturday, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
and once that's pulled away, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
so eventually, we'll see the start of the incursion of the colder air | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
of these north-westerlies. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
Still some relative warmth here across the far south, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
but elsewhere, the top two thirds of the British Isles, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
temperatures, as a daytime high, just in single figures. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
From Saturday into Sunday, look at this. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
It doesn't really matter where you are, we have got this pretty much | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
full-on north-north-westerly wind right across the British Isles. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
A chilly start, and a cold day throughout, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
with a prospect of some showers around about the coast, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
especially in the east, away from the centre of that high pressure. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
Which will give us a pretty chilly start on Monday | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
but it's just giving ground, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
just wanting to slump away towards the south-west, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
as these weather fronts wander over its northern flank, | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
so that means cloud and wind and rain | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
eventually pushing in towards Scotland, to Northern Ireland too. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
Further south, chilly start, decent sort of day. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
Primarily a dry day thanks to the influence of the high pressure. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:53
And then as we move towards the middle part of the forthcoming week | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
we really sort of lay out what is going to become the pattern | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
of the rest of the week, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
with the high pressure tantalisingly close to the south, but it's not | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
doing enough to keep those low pressures away from the north. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
In between, the flow will be essentially from the west, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
so relatively speaking, compared to the weekend, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
a milder flow from midweek onwards. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
There will be some rain because of those low pressures in the north. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
Further south, thanks to that area of high pressure, things will look | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
just that wee bit more settled. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28 |
