Hello. Monday is likely to be the mildest day of the week ahead.

0:00:020:00:05

Colder air is going to return, and in the longer term,

0:00:050:00:08

it is going to be the position of the jet stream that will be crucial.

0:00:080:00:12

What we're seeing now is the milder westerlies being

0:00:120:00:14

replaced by colder northerlies.

0:00:140:00:16

High pressured the west, low pressure to the east

0:00:160:00:19

and those northerly winds bringing down some showers.

0:00:190:00:22

A lot of showers to come for Northern Ireland, West Wales

0:00:220:00:24

and the south-west of England.

0:00:240:00:25

Wintry showers again for northern Scotland.

0:00:250:00:28

Initially, showers around coastal areas of north-east England.

0:00:280:00:31

As the wind picks up, we blow them further inland

0:00:310:00:33

all the way down to the Midlands and across East Anglia.

0:00:330:00:35

If you don't get a shower,

0:00:350:00:37

you will certainly see more cloud around and it will feel cold.

0:00:370:00:40

Temperatures on Tuesday lower than they were on Monday,

0:00:400:00:43

so 5 to 8 degrees fairly typically

0:00:430:00:45

and feeling cold in the wind as well.

0:00:450:00:48

So we're now starting to see this colder air returning

0:00:480:00:51

much as it did last week.

0:00:510:00:53

So the milder air that we had on Monday was just a blip,

0:00:530:00:55

if you like.

0:00:550:00:57

That colder air and northerly winds will be pushing back in again.

0:00:570:01:00

Particularly windy down the eastern side of England and Scotland.

0:01:000:01:04

That's where we'll see most of the showers, most of the cloud.

0:01:040:01:06

Further west, fewer showers on Wednesday

0:01:060:01:08

for Northern Ireland, west Wales and the south-west.

0:01:080:01:11

Still a few wintry ones continuing across Scotland.

0:01:110:01:13

Most of the snow will be over the hills in Scotland,

0:01:130:01:16

but those temperatures - 3 to 7 degrees.

0:01:160:01:18

So another cold day, especially in the wind.

0:01:180:01:21

But, again, many inland areas dry with some sunshine.

0:01:210:01:24

High pressure then to the west, low pressure to the east.

0:01:240:01:27

You can see the isobars, the tramlines

0:01:270:01:29

and those winds coming all the way down

0:01:290:01:31

from a chilly northerly direction.

0:01:310:01:33

Actually on Thursday, the weather very similar to that of Wednesday.

0:01:330:01:36

So still a few showers across these western exposures

0:01:360:01:40

but more showers down the eastern coastal areas of England.

0:01:400:01:43

Temperatures 3 to 5 degrees Thursday,

0:01:430:01:45

likely to be the coldest day

0:01:450:01:47

of the week ahead.

0:01:470:01:49

What we start to see on Thursday into Friday,

0:01:490:01:52

around the top of this area of high pressure,

0:01:520:01:54

signs of a bit more cloud beginning to topple down from the north-west.

0:01:540:01:58

That weather front, a warm front, rather weak.

0:01:580:02:00

Now, the coldest air still across this corner of the UK towards

0:02:000:02:03

East Anglia and the south-east, Lincolnshire too.

0:02:030:02:05

That's where they'll still be a chilly wind and maybe a few showers.

0:02:050:02:08

Head further north-west, those temperatures slowly picking

0:02:080:02:11

up a bit, but there will be more cloud around.

0:02:110:02:13

Still another chilly day on Friday.

0:02:130:02:15

That weak weather front, that warm front continues

0:02:150:02:17

to topple down around that area of high pressure.

0:02:170:02:20

What it does, it brings in more cloud,

0:02:200:02:22

it brings down some milder air.

0:02:220:02:24

This is Atlantic air that's come around the top of

0:02:240:02:26

the high pressure and that is moving down across the UK.

0:02:260:02:29

So more cloud, quite low cloud, a bit of rain and drizzle around too.

0:02:290:02:32

No great amounts, but those temperatures will be higher,

0:02:320:02:35

maybe getting 10 degrees in Belfast on Saturday.

0:02:350:02:38

Almost unheard of.

0:02:380:02:40

Now, I talked about the jet stream.

0:02:400:02:42

This is what we're seeing over the weekend -

0:02:420:02:44

the jet stream to the north of us then diving

0:02:440:02:46

down into Central Europe

0:02:460:02:48

and this is where the colder air is getting pushed.

0:02:480:02:50

So, across the UK, over the weekend we are seeing milder air coming in.

0:02:500:02:55

But it may only be briefly because, as we move into next week,

0:02:550:02:59

the position of the jet stream changes.

0:02:590:03:02

You can see those winds there are digging down towards the UK

0:03:020:03:05

and this is where the colder air is going to be.

0:03:050:03:07

Big fluctuations in that jet stream.

0:03:070:03:09

Milder air across the Atlantic, colder air in the UK.

0:03:090:03:12

So northerly wind returns into next week.

0:03:120:03:15

That means more sunshine and showers.

0:03:150:03:17

Quite a few showers down the eastern side of the UK.

0:03:170:03:19

This is probably where it's going to feel coldest of all

0:03:190:03:21

with the winds off the North Sea.

0:03:210:03:23

But with clear skies overnight, we're going to find those

0:03:230:03:25

night frosts becoming widespread once again. Goodbye.
