Hello. The week has started with the weather making the news headlines.

0:00:010:00:04

That is never really a good sign.

0:00:040:00:07

Let's see if we can calm things down a little bit in the days to come.

0:00:070:00:10

If your Monday was particularly wet and windy

0:00:100:00:12

in this south-eastern corner,

0:00:120:00:14

it was thanks to that area of low pressure.

0:00:140:00:16

As that has moved further towards Scandinavia,

0:00:160:00:18

it's dragged its cloud away with it,

0:00:180:00:20

the winds have lightened

0:00:200:00:21

and as a consequence that's a pretty good recipe,

0:00:210:00:24

especially when you've got lying snow,

0:00:240:00:25

to see the temperatures really fall away.

0:00:250:00:28

So you could be starting Tuesday

0:00:280:00:30

at -9, -10 or -11 in the countryside.

0:00:300:00:32

In the major towns and cities down the spine of the country,

0:00:320:00:34

you could easily be looking at -4, -5, -6 degrees.

0:00:340:00:38

A really bitter start to the day.

0:00:380:00:39

There will still be a sprinkling of showers

0:00:390:00:41

across northern and eastern parts

0:00:410:00:43

and there's a risk of ice as well

0:00:430:00:45

quite widely across the British Isles.

0:00:450:00:47

So bear that in mind first up.

0:00:470:00:48

But once the day gets going, it is a decent sort of day.

0:00:480:00:51

Plenty of sunshine around, not doing that much for the temperatures.

0:00:510:00:53

And in the west, you even lose that as well,

0:00:530:00:55

certainly through Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,

0:00:550:00:57

the western fringes of Wales

0:00:570:00:59

as a new set of weather fronts bring rain initially.

0:00:590:01:02

But as it gets over the higher ground of Scotland,

0:01:020:01:03

the top end of the Pennines,

0:01:030:01:05

for a time there will be fresh snow.

0:01:050:01:07

So just bear that one in mind.

0:01:070:01:09

Here's the bigger picture as we get on into Wednesday.

0:01:090:01:11

As that front clears away,

0:01:110:01:13

so it just makes room for another mini front, if you like,

0:01:130:01:16

to come through on a rather noticeable

0:01:160:01:18

west and south-westerly wind.

0:01:180:01:20

That will have the effect of having seen one set of cloud,

0:01:200:01:24

wind and rain move away, it will just gang up those showers

0:01:240:01:26

and these will be really quite punchy, quite a bit of hail,

0:01:260:01:28

maybe a rumble of thunder and then things get

0:01:280:01:31

a little bit quieter again

0:01:310:01:32

until the next band of weather comes on through.

0:01:320:01:35

But I was saying that the breeze is

0:01:350:01:36

coming in from the west and south-west,

0:01:360:01:38

so for some, that will help to boost the temperatures to

0:01:380:01:41

the sort of levels you haven't seen for a day or two at the very least.

0:01:410:01:44

But as we head out of Wednesday into Thursday,

0:01:440:01:47

so will keep the isobars quite tightly packed,

0:01:470:01:50

so Thursday another blustery, showery sort of day.

0:01:500:01:53

No great heat in the atmosphere at this stage.

0:01:530:01:56

So we expect to see a little bit of sunshine,

0:01:560:01:58

but again if you catch those showers, you'll know all about it.

0:01:580:02:01

There could be a wintry flavour to some of those.

0:02:010:02:04

Now it's from there that we look towards

0:02:040:02:07

the end of the week to see the breeze no longer

0:02:070:02:09

coming from the west and south-west beginning

0:02:090:02:11

to crank around into the northerly which taps us in to the cold air

0:02:110:02:15

that sits there all the while to the north of the British Isles.

0:02:150:02:18

But out in the wings, may be signs of change.

0:02:180:02:21

We'll come to that in just a second.

0:02:210:02:23

We have to get through the rest of the week first.

0:02:230:02:25

So here we are, quite a few isobars there especially through

0:02:250:02:27

western parts through Thursday and indeed on Friday.

0:02:270:02:31

We begin see that process of just ratcheting

0:02:310:02:34

the isobars around to give us that northerly flow.

0:02:340:02:37

Forget all about the 10 or 11 degrees,

0:02:370:02:38

anywhere across the British Isles.

0:02:380:02:40

3, 4, 5 to about 7 or 8 just about covers it.

0:02:400:02:44

Friday into Saturday, here's the weekend.

0:02:440:02:47

Notice the flow is still very much from the north and north-west.

0:02:470:02:51

So quite a bit of dry weather

0:02:510:02:53

if you're protected from that north-westerly direction.

0:02:530:02:56

So eastern parts could see the very best of the sunshine,

0:02:560:02:59

but after a frosty start, again, I don't think you're going to see

0:02:590:03:02

too much in the way of temperature on those thermometers of yours.

0:03:020:03:06

And then come Sunday,

0:03:060:03:08

maybe just the first signs of that change that I was alluding to.

0:03:080:03:10

The mild air waiting in the wings already showing

0:03:100:03:13

itself into the south-west the British Isles.

0:03:130:03:15

So further ahead into the new week,

0:03:150:03:17

it could be milder than average,

0:03:170:03:19

but there were a lot of isobars

0:03:190:03:21

so it could stay windy and I think from that direction,

0:03:210:03:24

that's the direction we often get that breeze,

0:03:240:03:26

but also some cloud and rain at times.
