Hello, there. This weekend's weather is looking very disappointing

0:00:020:00:04

for many. Very wintry conditions,

0:00:040:00:06

again with some of the hazards of snow and ice

0:00:060:00:08

and for many central, southern areas,

0:00:080:00:10

it was a pretty disappointing Saturday.

0:00:100:00:12

But glorious conditions across Scotland, albeit very cold.

0:00:120:00:15

Further south, though, we had a persistent weather front

0:00:150:00:17

which brought outbreaks of rain, low cloud

0:00:170:00:19

and there was further sleet and snow,

0:00:190:00:22

certainly over the higher ground. Now, just a peak into next week.

0:00:220:00:25

It looks like we're going to lose this cold air that we've had

0:00:250:00:28

for quite a while and see a return to the mild southwesterlies

0:00:280:00:31

which will be with us for much of the new working week.

0:00:310:00:35

But it looks like things may turn a little bit

0:00:350:00:36

unsettled around the middle part of the week,

0:00:360:00:38

so I'll show you towards the end of this bulletin.

0:00:380:00:40

Let's take a look at Sunday now

0:00:400:00:41

and it looks like being another unsettled one,

0:00:410:00:43

a band of rain spreading in from the west through the morning.

0:00:430:00:45

It will continue its journey eastwards.

0:00:450:00:47

There'll be some sleet and snow on its leading edge,

0:00:470:00:49

across far parts of the south east, through the midlands,

0:00:490:00:52

certainly across the Pennines and into towards Scotland,

0:00:520:00:55

where it will feel cold and raw here all day.

0:00:550:00:58

Signs of that milder air making in-roads across the south-west

0:00:580:01:01

but here there will be some pretty heavy rain at times.

0:01:010:01:04

So that weather system will clear through on Sunday and we start

0:01:040:01:07

to pick up the Atlantic westerlies introducing that milder air.

0:01:070:01:12

Brief ridge of high pressure moves in for Monday,

0:01:120:01:15

so things will settle down.

0:01:150:01:16

We'll lose the rain across the south-east

0:01:160:01:19

and across the north of the country and then it's a breezy day.

0:01:190:01:22

Westerly winds feeding in a few showers across western hills.

0:01:220:01:25

There'll be some good breaks in the clouds in between the showers,

0:01:250:01:28

with some sunny spells,

0:01:280:01:29

and it will feel that little bit milder across the board.

0:01:290:01:32

Double figure values across the south.

0:01:320:01:34

As we head on towards Tuesday, the winds veer to a more

0:01:340:01:37

south-westerly across the country, always a pretty warm direction.

0:01:370:01:41

It will feed a lot of moisture, a lot of cloud across southern

0:01:410:01:44

and western areas, particularly over hills

0:01:440:01:47

and coasts have some low cloud.

0:01:470:01:48

But given any brightness through central

0:01:480:01:50

and eastern parts it will feel very mild indeed.

0:01:500:01:52

In fact, Tuesday's probably looking like being the mildest

0:01:520:01:55

day of the week, with temperatures for most of us in double figures.

0:01:550:02:00

Now, as he head on towards the middle part of the week,

0:02:000:02:02

I think there's signs of something a bit more unsettled

0:02:020:02:04

moving in around this area of low pressure.

0:02:040:02:06

It's this feature here, a secondary low,

0:02:060:02:08

which could bring a spell of wetter

0:02:080:02:10

and windier weather to our shores during the course of Wednesday.

0:02:100:02:13

Another pretty mild day but it looks like, as that feature runs in,

0:02:130:02:17

the winds will pick up, reach gale force in places.

0:02:170:02:19

Some pretty heavy rain for a time for England and Wales

0:02:190:02:21

before moving on in towards Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:210:02:24

As that pulls away,

0:02:240:02:26

though, it allows northerly winds to move in to the northern

0:02:260:02:28

half of the country, so here turning a little bit cooler on Thursday.

0:02:280:02:31

Still fairly mild in the south but quite blustery,

0:02:310:02:33

with sunshine and showers.

0:02:330:02:35

Now, as we head on in towards Friday,

0:02:350:02:37

that area of low pressure eventually clears away

0:02:370:02:39

but it does open the floodgates to a more northerly through Friday,

0:02:390:02:43

so it looks like temperatures across the board a touch cooler.

0:02:430:02:47

There are temperatures back in to single figures,

0:02:470:02:49

although not as cold as what we have seen of late.

0:02:490:02:51

But there should be some sunshine around too

0:02:510:02:53

and those winds generally light.

0:02:530:02:55

But it's a flip-flopping situation

0:02:550:02:57

as we head on in towards the weekend.

0:02:570:02:59

It looks like another plume of milder air will make

0:02:590:03:01

in-roads from the south-west.

0:03:010:03:03

So it's quite a mixed week but one thing's for sure -

0:03:030:03:06

it's certainly going to be much milder than it has been of late

0:03:060:03:08

but Tuesday perhaps looking like being the mildest day of the week.

0:03:080:03:11

And then around the middle part of the week it turns more

0:03:110:03:14

unsettled with spells of rain, heavy at times.

0:03:140:03:16

Quite windy too, with a risk of gales and, as I showed you,

0:03:160:03:19

it'll turn a little bit cooler for a while before again turning

0:03:190:03:22

milder as we head on in to the new weekend. So that's how it's looking.

0:03:220:03:25

Bye for now.
