Hello there. Now, we've got a very

different feel to the weather

0:00:020:00:05

as we head into the new working

week, compared to what we've been

0:00:050:00:08

used to so far and certainly what

we were used to over the weekend.

0:00:080:00:11

In fact, it was bitterly

cold with snow and ice

0:00:110:00:14

causing some issues,

particularly on Sunday.

0:00:140:00:17

We have so many Weather Watcher

pictures of snowy scenes like these,

0:00:170:00:20

from Scotland through parts

of northern, central

0:00:200:00:23

and eastern England.

0:00:230:00:25

Now, the snow and the ice,

though, is set to thaw

0:00:250:00:29

and thaw quite

rapidly because

0:00:290:00:30

for this week things

are set to turn much milder

0:00:300:00:33

from the south-west,

but with it things gradually

0:00:330:00:36

turning a little bit

more unsettled too.

0:00:360:00:38

A big area of low pressure

out in the Atlantic

0:00:380:00:41

will be

spinning around,

0:00:410:00:42

dragging up this milder

air from the south

0:00:420:00:45

and it will start to

influence our weather

0:00:450:00:47

from the middle part

of the week onwards.

0:00:470:00:49

We start Monday off on

generally a fine note,

0:00:490:00:51

one weather system

to the south,

0:00:510:00:53

one to the north, bringing

outbreaks of rain.

0:00:530:00:55

This will clear away

through the morning,

0:00:550:00:57

same, too, as well across

northern Scotland.

0:00:570:00:59

Then with a ridge of high

pressure just building in

0:00:590:01:01

it should settle

things down nicely.

0:01:010:01:03

We should see some good

spells of sunshine.

0:01:030:01:05

Much quieter,

much milder weather

0:01:050:01:07

to what we had during

the course of the weekend.

0:01:070:01:10

So there'll be a few

showers around,

0:01:100:01:12

mostly across

northern Scotland

0:01:120:01:13

and across

the west, too,

0:01:130:01:15

but eastern areas should

see some sunshine.

0:01:150:01:17

A fine afternoon I think,

apart from Northern Ireland as well.

0:01:170:01:19

Showers running into

north-west England,

0:01:190:01:22

northern and western Wales

and the south-west

0:01:220:01:24

but the Midlands

eastwards

0:01:240:01:25

should stay dry

with sunny spells.

0:01:250:01:27

A fair breeze blowing in

from the west

0:01:270:01:29

but on the mild side.

0:01:290:01:30

Temperatures

8 to 10 Celsius.

0:01:300:01:32

To head-on towards Tuesday

we pick up our winds

0:01:320:01:35

from a more south,

south-westerly direction,

0:01:350:01:37

so always a warm direction

whatever time of the year,

0:01:370:01:39

but it will come with

a lot of cloud.

0:01:390:01:42

Outbreaks of rain across southern

and western hills in particular.

0:01:420:01:45

What you really

will notice

0:01:450:01:47

is how mild

it will be,

0:01:470:01:49

with temperatures in double figures

Celsius for most of us.

0:01:490:01:51

As we head-on into Wednesday,

like I mentioned,

0:01:510:01:53

things turning a bit

more unsettled.

0:01:530:01:55

It looks like this

secondary low,

0:01:550:01:57

a feature spinning

around the parent low,

0:01:570:01:59

will run in towards our shores

and bring us, I think,

0:01:590:02:01

a spell of wet and very windy

weather for a time on Wednesday.

0:02:010:02:04

We could see

some gales, in fact,

0:02:040:02:05

across the north

and the west.

0:02:050:02:07

This band of rain, expected

to be heavy at times,

0:02:070:02:09

will spread

its way eastwards.

0:02:090:02:10

Another mild day

for England and Wales,

0:02:100:02:12

but for Scotland and Northern

Ireland something a bit

0:02:120:02:15

cooler pushing down

from the north west,

0:02:150:02:16

perhaps turning some of that rain

wintry over the Scottish mountains.

0:02:160:02:19

High pressure tries to

nudge in from the west

0:02:190:02:22

but it does allow

a run of north,

0:02:220:02:25

north-westerly winds for a time,

so Thursday is looking

0:02:250:02:27

a little bit fresher,

0:02:270:02:28

than what we'll

start the week on.

0:02:280:02:30

Temperatures back into

single figures for most.

0:02:300:02:33

Showers across the

north and the west

0:02:330:02:35

but we should see some sunshine

across southern and eastern areas.

0:02:350:02:38

It does look like that

area of low pressure

0:02:380:02:40

is expected to move off

this near continent

0:02:400:02:42

and this big area of high

pressure begins to build up

0:02:420:02:45

from the south west.

0:02:450:02:46

But this feature could run in

towards Northern Ireland

0:02:460:02:49

and Scotland

through Friday,

0:02:490:02:51

but I think most

of us on Friday,

0:02:510:02:53

thanks to that area

of high pressure,

0:02:530:02:55

will see a lot of fine and settled

conditions with some sunshine.

0:02:550:02:58

On the cool side,

0:02:580:02:59

but things are set to

turn milder once again

0:02:590:03:02

as we head on in

towards the weekend

0:03:020:03:04

as we pick up those west

or south-westerly winds.

0:03:040:03:06

Now, we did think originally that

big area of high pressure

0:03:060:03:10

would dominate the weather

as we head in towards

0:03:100:03:12

the following weekend and the

start of the following week

0:03:120:03:15

but it does look like things are

going to be a bit more unsettled.

0:03:150:03:17

Low pressure systems running into

0:03:170:03:19

the north and the west of the UK.

0:03:190:03:20

It means it will be mild,

0:03:200:03:22

often windy with rain at times,

0:03:220:03:23

particularly in the

north-west of the UK,

0:03:230:03:25

whereas further south

and east we should see

0:03:250:03:27

the influence of the high-pressure,

0:03:270:03:29

with some sunshine at times.
