Hello there. Now, we've got a very
different feel to the weather | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
as we head into the new working
week, compared to what we've been | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
used to so far and certainly what
we were used to over the weekend. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
In fact, it was bitterly
cold with snow and ice | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
causing some issues,
particularly on Sunday. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
We have so many Weather Watcher
pictures of snowy scenes like these, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
from Scotland through parts
of northern, central | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
and eastern England. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
Now, the snow and the ice,
though, is set to thaw | 0:00:25 | 0:00:29
and thaw quite
rapidly because | 0:00:29 | 0:00:30
for this week things
are set to turn much milder | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
from the south-west,
but with it things gradually | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
turning a little bit
more unsettled too. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
A big area of low pressure
out in the Atlantic | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
will be
spinning around, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
dragging up this milder
air from the south | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
and it will start to
influence our weather | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
from the middle part
of the week onwards. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
We start Monday off on
generally a fine note, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
one weather system
to the south, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
one to the north, bringing
outbreaks of rain. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
This will clear away
through the morning, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
same, too, as well across
northern Scotland. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
Then with a ridge of high
pressure just building in | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
it should settle
things down nicely. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
We should see some good
spells of sunshine. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
Much quieter,
much milder weather | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
to what we had during
the course of the weekend. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
So there'll be a few
showers around, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
mostly across
northern Scotland | 0:01:12 | 0:01:13
and across
the west, too, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
but eastern areas should
see some sunshine. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
A fine afternoon I think,
apart from Northern Ireland as well. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
Showers running into
north-west England, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
northern and western Wales
and the south-west | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
but the Midlands
eastwards | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
should stay dry
with sunny spells. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
A fair breeze blowing in
from the west | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
but on the mild side. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:30
Temperatures
8 to 10 Celsius. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
To head-on towards Tuesday
we pick up our winds | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
from a more south,
south-westerly direction, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
so always a warm direction
whatever time of the year, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
but it will come with
a lot of cloud. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
Outbreaks of rain across southern
and western hills in particular. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
What you really
will notice | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
is how mild
it will be, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
with temperatures in double figures
Celsius for most of us. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
As we head-on into Wednesday,
like I mentioned, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
things turning a bit
more unsettled. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
It looks like this
secondary low, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
a feature spinning
around the parent low, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
will run in towards our shores
and bring us, I think, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
a spell of wet and very windy
weather for a time on Wednesday. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
We could see
some gales, in fact, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:05
across the north
and the west. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
This band of rain, expected
to be heavy at times, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
will spread
its way eastwards. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:10
Another mild day
for England and Wales, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
but for Scotland and Northern
Ireland something a bit | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
cooler pushing down
from the north west, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:16
perhaps turning some of that rain
wintry over the Scottish mountains. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
High pressure tries to
nudge in from the west | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
but it does allow
a run of north, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
north-westerly winds for a time,
so Thursday is looking | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
a little bit fresher, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:28
than what we'll
start the week on. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
Temperatures back into
single figures for most. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
Showers across the
north and the west | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
but we should see some sunshine
across southern and eastern areas. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
It does look like that
area of low pressure | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
is expected to move off
this near continent | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
and this big area of high
pressure begins to build up | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
from the south west. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:46
But this feature could run in
towards Northern Ireland | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
and Scotland
through Friday, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
but I think most
of us on Friday, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
thanks to that area
of high pressure, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
will see a lot of fine and settled
conditions with some sunshine. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
On the cool side, | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
but things are set to
turn milder once again | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
as we head on in
towards the weekend | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
as we pick up those west
or south-westerly winds. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
Now, we did think originally that
big area of high pressure | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
would dominate the weather
as we head in towards | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
the following weekend and the
start of the following week | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
but it does look like things are
going to be a bit more unsettled. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Low pressure systems running into | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
the north and the west of the UK. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
It means it will be mild, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
often windy with rain at times, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
particularly in the
north-west of the UK, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
whereas further south
and east we should see | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
the influence of the high-pressure, | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
with some sunshine at times. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30 |
