Today we're going to be looking at being a referee.

Who knows what a referee does?

-Lewis?

-They decide if someone breaks the rules.

Well done. Holly?

They will give you a red card.

Ooh, you're right, and we definitely don't want one of those.

So a referee is a really important person.

They make sure everybody's playing by the rules and safely so they

don't get hurt, and sometimes have to make unpopular decisions.

And there are three main things we should remember

when being a referee. Look at the ball and the players.

Think about the decisions we make.

And we keep the game going.

-ALL:

-Look carefully at the players and the ball,

think about the decisions you need to make, keep the game going.

Come on then, let's have a practice.

As a referee, there are some important actions you need

to know, so we're going to play a little game called Ref Says.

If I say, "Ref says corner kick", run over to the corner flag,

and when you get there, raise your arm and point at it.

If I say, "Ref says goal kick", run to the goal,

raise your arm and point at it.

"Ref says warning", run back over to me and hold up the yellow card.

And if the ref says send off, I want you to hold up the red card.

Ref says goal kick!

They're on the move. Great speed here.

-Ref says warning.

-Uh-oh, that'll mean a yellow card, Rachel.

Ref says corner kick.

Great reactions, but make sure you're pointing to the flag.

Send off!

Ohh, that's going to mean a red card!

Oh, I've been sent off.

Ref says goal kick.

Whilst these guys keep practising, here's a reminder for you at home.

When being a referee, look at the players and the ball,

think about the decisions you need to make and keep the game going.

As a referee, it's really important to keep our eye on the ball.

To do this, we need to run forwards and backwards,

and that's what we're going to practise.

You need to run from the circle,

back and forth, around the cones.

When running towards the circle,

you need to run forwards, and when running away

run backwards. To make sure you're concentrating,

I'm going to call out instructions, and when I do,

you need to stop moving and blow your whistle...

or hold up the red card.

-The ball bounced over the line. Tell them, ref.

Well, it's my job to decide, and I don't think it was a goal.

This match would be much better without all of your silly rules.

But these silly rules are here to make sure everyone

We've got to accept it, the ref-a-flea's decision is final.

Oh, I didn't see what happened.

But a good referee always sees everything.

Poor old Rex, but referee Benny had to make a decision there.

Trouble is, the pups aren't happy about it.

Let's take a look with the Footy Pups to find out how to play.

To play this game you need to play by the rules.

The referees call out to the strikers and the goalkeepers

to ask if they're ready.

When a referee blows their whistle,

the striker dribbles the ball towards the goal.

Once they're in front of goal, they can take a shot.

One referee moves up and down with the strikers,

making sure they don't cross the line.

The other ref stands with the goalkeeper and raises

a green flag if the ball goes in and a red flag if it doesn't.

The winners of this game will be the team who score the most goals.

-Strikers, are you ready?

-STRIKERS: Yeah!

-Goalies, are you ready?

-GOALIES: Yeah!

checking that they don't go over the line.

The Yellow Team set off, ref Lewis is right there with them.

-Max in goal.

-Shoot.

-Ohh, it got past him.

Sophie dives for the ball. The ref's allowed one goal there.
