We were just chatting about Best Day, and something we found

interesting about it was that it's in a major key.

So, we thought we'd talk to you about major scales

and what they're all about.

So, I mean, I don't really know that much about piano.

-What's, like, the minor and the major scales and stuff?

-OK. Well,

if I were to play this, tell me how you feel.

-PIANO PLAYS

-Kind of happy, yeah.

-OK, and then,

That's a lot more sad.

So, as you guys know, Best Day is a really happy and upbeat song.

So, it's actually played in a key called G major.

Major scales, what exactly are they?

Well, it's a pattern of notes in between an octave.

So, what is an octave?

Well, it's eight notes in between C and C,

or A and A, or whatever the key is in.

And so, the pattern of a major scale is always whole tone,

whole tone, semi-tone,

whole tone, whole tone,

whole tone, semi-tone.

Now I can show you how to actually play Best Day.

So, it would start with C, and then go to a chord called A minor.

Which is still in the key of C major, even though it's minor.

And then G.
