First today to the sad news from Orlando in the US | :00:14. | :00:17.
where an attack happened at the weekend. | :00:18. | :00:19.
President Obama has said he will visit the area | :00:20. | :00:21.
Cities around the world, including London, Brussels, | :00:22. | :00:24.
Glasgow and many more have been holding tributes to show they care. | :00:25. | :00:32.
The attack in the early hours of Sunday morning | :00:33. | :00:34.
was the worst mass shooting in recent US history. | :00:35. | :00:37.
Some people think rules around guns are to blame. | :00:38. | :00:40.
Today marks the most deadly shooting in American history. | :00:41. | :00:47.
This massacre is a further reminder of how easy it is for someone | :00:48. | :00:52.
to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, | :00:53. | :00:56.
a place of worship, or a movie theatre or in a nightclub. | :00:57. | :01:02.
And we need to decide if that's the country we want to be. | :01:03. | :01:07.
That's the American President, Barack Obama, | :01:08. | :01:08.
speaking after an attack in Orlando in the early hours of Sunday morning | :01:09. | :01:12.
that killed 50 people and injured many more. | :01:13. | :01:17.
It's not the first time he's spoken about the need for gun control. | :01:18. | :01:20.
He's repeatedly made speeches like this | :01:21. | :01:22.
every time there's been a large shooting in the US. | :01:23. | :01:35.
That's because masss shootings are a big problem in America. | :01:36. | :01:37.
For every 100 people in the United States, | :01:38. | :01:39.
there are around 90 guns - compared to only 6 for every 100 | :01:40. | :01:42.
In America, it's relatively easy to get a gun if you're over 18. | :01:43. | :01:47.
The rules are much tougher in the UK. | :01:48. | :01:48.
The right to what's known as "keep and bear arms" was written | :01:49. | :01:51.
into American law within years of the country being | :01:52. | :01:54.
Back then, America didn't have a well-established army | :01:55. | :01:57.
and people felt it was important to have the right to carry a weapon | :01:58. | :02:03.
to keep order or in case the country was attacked. | :02:04. | :02:08.
the United States is a very different place | :02:09. | :02:12.
but many people there still see the right to own a gun | :02:13. | :02:15.
as an important part of being American - | :02:16. | :02:18.
and as a way of protecting themselves. | :02:19. | :02:21.
They argue that it's not the law that's at fault, | :02:22. | :02:23.
but a small number of people who use guns in the wrong way. | :02:24. | :02:29.
But others disagree and want the law to change, | :02:30. | :02:31.
saying that if fewer people had access to guns, | :02:32. | :02:33.
President Obama wants it to be much harder to buy a gun | :02:34. | :02:40.
and wants tougher background checks | :02:41. | :02:41.
and police to assess if a person is suitable to own the weapon. | :02:42. | :02:46.
But with such fierce opinions on both sides, | :02:47. | :02:48.
it will be difficult to make any changes. | :02:49. | :02:53.
Remember, if anything you see in the news upsets you, | :02:54. | :02:55.
