I'm Hayley with everything you need to know this thursday. | :00:00. | :00:07.
My school has been taken over by baby chicks. | :00:08. | :00:28.
First to the town of Port Talbot in South Wales. | :00:29. | :00:32.
It's home to the biggest steelworks in the country. | :00:33. | :00:34.
People there are worried because Tata Steel, which owns | :00:35. | :00:36.
the site, wants to sell it and workers could lose their jobs. | :00:37. | :00:41.
The company employs around 10,000 people at 14 sites in Britain. | :00:42. | :00:46.
It wants to get rid of them because they are losing money. | :00:47. | :00:49.
Ricky, what have people there told you? | :00:50. | :01:03.
I'm in Port Tolbert in South Wales. Lots of lorries coming into the | :01:04. | :01:10.
factory. -- Port Talbot. This is a big site as you can see. Lots of | :01:11. | :01:14.
families waking up not sure what will happen to the steelworks here. | :01:15. | :01:18.
We know that the Prime Minister is holding a special meeting to talk | :01:19. | :01:22.
about the future of the UK steel industry. Yesterday, I spent the day | :01:23. | :01:26.
speeding tickets in the town because of them have parents working in the | :01:27. | :01:31.
factory or no people in their street working there. I wanted to find out | :01:32. | :01:35.
how things would change if the factory is to close. | :01:36. | :01:37.
Wherever you are in Port Talbot, it is not hard to miss | :01:38. | :01:47.
You can see it from pretty much all over the town. | :01:48. | :01:55.
And kids have been telling me today that they will be pretty sad | :01:56. | :01:59.
Alfie and Lily, your dad works at the steelworks. | :02:00. | :02:02.
He has worked there for six years, hasn't he? | :02:03. | :02:04.
And what do you think would happen if it was to close? | :02:05. | :02:08.
Well, I would miss seeing the ships going in and out. | :02:09. | :02:11.
What is it like having a dad who works at the steelworks? | :02:12. | :02:14.
You have got the beach and then the mountains where I live, | :02:15. | :02:21.
which is like my back garden, so it is nice to explore different | :02:22. | :02:24.
And how much of a big deal is the steelworks for this town? | :02:25. | :02:32.
It is major because there are so many jobs there | :02:33. | :02:34.
and so many of my friends' parents work there. | :02:35. | :02:36.
And it means so much to them if they keep their jobs. | :02:37. | :02:39.
I know lots of people, especially loads of neighbours | :02:40. | :02:43.
It would affect them because they all have children. | :02:44. | :02:46.
So, if it closes, then they will all be out of work. | :02:47. | :02:49.
If it was to close, would it be quite sad? | :02:50. | :02:52.
Yes, it would be bad for the country and the economy. | :02:53. | :02:57.
Not just the community, but also some smaller businesses | :02:58. | :03:05.
Could you imagine Port Talbot without the factory? | :03:06. | :03:09.
Find out more about the steel industry in the UK on our website. | :03:10. | :03:25.
Next, to a baby gorilla who didn't have the easiest start in life. | :03:26. | :03:28.
Afear's mum had problems giving birth to her, | :03:29. | :03:30.
so vets had to do an operation on mum to help. | :03:31. | :03:33.
Afear's mum is recovering but in the meantime keeper Lindsey | :03:34. | :03:35.
has taken her home so she can feed Afear through the night. | :03:36. | :03:38.
The little gorilla is now doing well and it's hoped her mum will be able | :03:39. | :03:42.
Chickens, scarecrows and a wooden cow. | :03:43. | :03:57.
Today, we are finding out where our food comes from. | :03:58. | :04:01.
This farm workshop has arrived at school to give us classes | :04:02. | :04:06.
on planting fruit and veg, discovering how to grow grain | :04:07. | :04:09.
We're finding out how chickens live and how to keep | :04:10. | :04:16.
And a happy chicken equals a happy egg. | :04:17. | :04:21.
All day, my school has been taking part in workshops where we have been | :04:22. | :04:26.
learning more about what farmers do and what tools they use to produce | :04:27. | :04:28.
OK, it is a wooden one, but you get the idea. | :04:29. | :04:41.
This may look all very "a-moo-sing", but there is some serious | :04:42. | :04:45.
We have come here today to tell you what we do back on our home | :04:46. | :04:51.
We're very excited to be here, to tell you how we produce food | :04:52. | :04:55.
Why is coming here today helpful to children like me? | :04:56. | :05:01.
It is important that you learn where food comes | :05:02. | :05:04.
from because you need to understand what you are eating and you need | :05:05. | :05:07.
to understand the health benefits that it can give. | :05:08. | :05:10.
This little mill is used to grind grain to make flour. | :05:11. | :05:19.
One of the workshops these guys are doing is learning how | :05:20. | :05:22.
That is really important for farmers because if birds come, | :05:23. | :05:31.
they get scared of the scarecrows and it protect their crops | :05:32. | :05:34.
and all the food that they need to grow. | :05:35. | :05:36.
Although farming is not something I would want to do myself | :05:37. | :05:38.
when I grow up, these workshops have definitely taught me about the foods | :05:39. | :05:41.
I eat and where it comes from, which I think is really important | :05:42. | :05:46.
And any excuse to hold a baby chick is good for me, even if | :05:47. | :05:57.
That's all from me, Newsround's back right here at 4.20 this afternoon. | :05:58. | :06:02. |
