-It's Real Bread Week

-so what is so special about bread?

-Bread is very popular.

-People tend to be ignoring

-the typical sliced bread...

-..and opting for bread

-that has an array of flavours.

-Many shops sell bread

-with only four ingredients.

-It's bread that can be eaten fresh.

-The French buy loaves twice a day.

-I've got a special task for you.

-You've each got a ball of dough.

-You look the part.

-I've never made bread.

-I wouldn't know where to start.

-The dough needs to be kneaded.

-I like kneading.

-It's a bit like play doh!

-The bread with olives and tomatoes

-is great for the summer.

-Kneading helps to work the gluten

-or protein in the dough.

-We need 500g of strong flour.

-It's important to add some yeast

-to the mixture...

-..as the yeast

-will help the bread to rise.

-Do I need some flour?

-Yes, because it's sticking

-to the worktop...

-..but you can use oil

-as you don't want a dry dough.

-I've added some oil to my mixture.

-You also want some lukewarm water.

-It shouldn't be boiling water...

-..or it will kill the yeast.

-It needs to be quite sticky.

-A sticky dough will make

-a better bread.

-What are you doing?

-What about you?

-I'm making the letters of the names

-of our guests.

-I'm making some musical notes.

-I'm kneading the bread.

-My T doesn't look very good.

-What's happened to you, Elin?

-It looked so perfect too.

-This is mad cooking!

-My mixture is smooth.

-It needs to double in size

-as it's left to prove.

-A fortnight ago, we visited

-Ysgol y Creudddyn in Llandudno...

-..to hear of their educational film

-made using a grant for creativity.

-Caernarfon's Ysgol y Gelli had the

-same grant for a scientific film.

-I went to the school

-for the showing.

-The children will see the film

-for the first time tonight...

-..and I can't wait

-for their response.

-The children worked hard so will be

-honoured in an Oscar-themed night.

-A parent told us about

-The Lead Creative Schools Scheme.

-The grant promotes creative teaching

-and the development of skills.

-The purpose of the project

-is to encourage creative teaching.

-The children can learn

-without being taught at a desk.

-The film has a feature

-resembling Casualty.

-There's a news bulletin about

-a centipede who is sent to prison...

-..because he lied about having

-100 feet and only has 38 feet!

-The pupils absorbed the information

-and turned them into film snippets.

-Come on, kick the ball.

-I can't, I'm a snail

-and don't have any legs!

-It was a fun way to learn

-about science, filming and acting.

-It's a film with everything

-from news to comedy sketches...

-..interviews

-and factual information.

-My favourite aspect was the filming

-because it was a lot of fun.

-sitting in a classroom?

-Yes, it's a lot better as you

-do more than mathematics and sums.

-We're looking forward to the film

-and getting our awards.

-30 years of the charity, Llamau.

-for this homeless charity.

-It supports young homeless people

-and women at risk of being homeless.

-We work all across Wales.

-How do you support these people?

-We provide an array of services

-from offering a safe house...

-..to our Learning For Life projects

-that help people live independently.

-Many think that homelessness

-is a problem of the past.

-How much of an issue

-is it these days?

-It's a bigger problem

-than we realize.

-Last year, Llamau helped 5,000

-people, women and families...

-..who were homeless.

-It's a growing problem but

-the charity is meeting that demand.

-and done some drawings for us.

-colourful drawings and sketches.

-the charity's incredible work.

-Christian Aid for about 23 years.

-Tell us about the work

-of the charity.

-The charity has been in place

-for 70 years.

-It works with refugees.

-We're currently working in

-about 55 countries in the world.

-One of our major projects...

-..is to ensure that people

-have clean water.

-There's also been a lot

-of disasters...

-..as a result of climate change.

-You will be concentrating on

-a specific country this year.

-This year's theme is climate change

-and focuses on Bangladesh.

-Bangladesh is suffering from serious

-floods caused by climate change.

-Some of the money from

-Christian Aid Week...

-..will go to Bangladesh.

-You want to raise awareness

-and funds this week.

-Many events

-are taking place during the week.

-We have the Big Brekkie.

-It's a new idea for

-Christian Aid Week.

-This morning, a group in Swansea...

-..held their own Big Brekkie.

-..to share a breakfast with them

-whilst eating a tidy meal.

-Does the sum of money you raise

-change every year?

-It's always difficult

-to raise money...

-..but in recent years...

-..we're so lucky to have

-our volunteers.

-We have a lot of volunteers

-linked with churches.

-They do so much to help

-Christian Aid.

-They raise our profile.

-People know that the money goes

-where it is needed.

-Ysgol Gymraeg Treganna revealed

-the winner of a competition...

-..by an Urdd children's magazine,

-CIP and Talking Books Wales...

-..who publish material

-for the visually impaired.

-The task was to write a story for

-Talking Books for deaf children...

-..and have it published by CIP.

-Our cameras captured all the action.

-I'm delighted to ask Madog

-to come forward.

-I think there's more than one book

-in here for you.

-Congratulations to you.

-Some 50 children from across Wales

-took part in the competition.

-Many schools got involved

-and I hope it's repeated every year.

-It's a story about Mam-gu

-and her sister in World War II.

-We have a photograph of Mam-gu and

-her sister in their Welsh costumes.

-They are having a tea party.

-I thought it was a good story if

-they had a St David's Day party...

-..in the Anderson Shelter.

-The judges said that Madog had them

-gripped from the first sentence.

-There was a lot

-of excellent descriptions.

-"On the school yard, children said

-that the factory made bombs too...

-"..but Eiona and Heulwen

-didn't want to know the truth."

-To some degree, I felt that we'd

-ignored children's literature.

-We started recording and I came up

-with the idea for a competition.

-I'm delighted to have won

-because I enjoyed writing the story.

-Congratulations to Madog

-on his victory!

-We're back in the kitchen

-with Catrin for more bread-making.

-Let's see what's happened to the

-bread we were making earlier.

-The dough has been left to prove

-for a while.

-The proving process

-allows the bread to rise.

-It's time to add

-more ingredients to the dough.

-We need to pull out the dough...

-..to add some roasted tomatoes.

-These were roasted at gas mark 4

-with olive oil...

-..and some oregano.

-Your loaves are already in the oven.

-We can add the roasted tomatoes.

-These are very sweet.

-There's a great colour.

-We've got plenty of basil.

-There's also olives.

-Fold the dough in half...

-..and fold it again.

-We want to close the mixture

-inside the dough.

-Cut it at an angle.

-We want to show the contents.

-This goes on a greased tin.

-This should have another 30 minutes

-to prove.

-You can make any type of bread.

-You should have a tin of water

-at the bottom of the oven...

-..because it should create

-a wonderful crust.

-This should be baked

-for about 25 minutes.

-It should be eaten fresh.

-I don't think it would last longer

-than a day or two.

-A year ago, the Urdd Eisteddfod

-was held in the area.

-Tonight, the club is hosting a Welsh

-event known as the Cwtch Cymraeg.

-It's being attended by Ammanford's

-Welsh wizard, Shane Williams.

-How important is it for Welsh to be

-spoken in areas such as Nelson?

-The Welsh language

-is important to me.

-I'm from a town

-where Welsh is always spoken first.

-It's also important

-on the rugby pitch.

-When I played for Wales, you had

-Stephen Jones, Dwayne Peel...

-..and Jonathan Davies spoke Welsh to

-hide their plans from the opponents.

-I've been here for five minutes

-and people are speaking Welsh to me.

-Gareth Charles is keeping Shane

-Williams and everyone else in line.

-I don't tend to do these events but

-was surprised it was held in Nelson.

-But I had to accept the invitation

-as it's important to the Valleys.

-There's a lot of Welsh learners

-and Welsh speakers in this area...

-..so it was important for me

-to support them.

-The word "legend"

-is often used too frequently...

-..but it's very apt

-for tonight's special guest.

-The event is organized by the rugby

-club and Menter Iaith Caerffili.

-A lot of the players are former

-pupils of Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni.

-It's the perfect excuse

-to host an event of this kind...

-..so that they can put their Welsh

-to good use.

-A lot of people go to university and

-return so these events are great.

-Steven Hansen said it was his plan

-to hold Shane back!

-I was surprised that eight or nine

-lads in the first team speak Welsh.

-Most of the youth team

-go to Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni school.

-They don't have the opportunity

-to speak Welsh.

-They say "Why are you

-speaking Welsh, are you a teacher?"

-We try to promote the language

-and encourage people to socialize.

-The local Cwm Ni choir

-will sing after we've eaten...

-..so it'll be a great night

-with plenty of beer!

-The Cwtch Cymraeg enables fans

-of rugby to meet and socialize.

-It's great to see the community

-coming together for a Welsh night.

-It's wonderful to see the lads

-celebrating the Welsh language.

-In this area, very few people speak

-Welsh outside school.

-Those aged 27 rarely speak Welsh so

-it's great to see them here tonight.

-We often lose young adults as they

-don't use Welsh from day to day...

-..so it's important

-for them to socialize.

-A rugby club is fantastic place

-for such an event.

-There's been a great response and

-I hope this is the first of many!
