surviving members, from one of my favourite groups of all time, the

Four Tops, we welcome Duke Fakir! Such an honour to have you

here, I am such a fan. It is more than an honour and a privilege, to

come to the UK, this is our favourite stop, of all the stops in

the world that we make, every year, when I leave here, I'm dying to get

right it's wonder. White going back to the beginning, how did you

originally get together? We got together going to parties. To meet

some birds, if you don't mind(!) LAUGHTER

You have clearly spends time in England! We were young men, we

thought about singing, a little bit...! This young lady gave some

wonderful parties, a group of girls, all really fine, and a special club,

and they invited Levi and myself to sing. We wanted to do a group thing.

Ronaldo Vincent, Lawrence Payton, they said that they would come,

because we told them about the birds! LAUGHTER

They said, Levi, sing a song, we will back you up, they began

singing, and we backed him up, and the voices blended so well, and we

looked at each other and said, yeah! Right after it was over, he said,

this is a group. What did you sing at the party? 60 minute man! You

remember that one. Very easy to harmonise on that one. We blended

well together. We have a little bit of footage of the Four Tops from

about 1970... On the BBC... You won't recognise us!

Thank you, KT Tunstall. That is from her album Khin. Before that, we

enjoyed the Temptations. Great dance legends and now a contemporary dance

legend, Pete Tong. Welcome. Great to see you. Banksy having the. There's

a drink for you, a drink for me and a mysterious glass of water to

cleanse our mouths between chats. You've collaborated with conductor

and arranger James Buckley on an orchestral record, which is a

brilliant idea but an unusual mix. How did it come about? Radio 1 were

approached last year to curate a prom and they asked me. I said, why

don't we celebrate going to be further 20 years? We spent about six

months putting together with the Heritage Orchestra and we had this

magical night in the Albert Hall and it was a great night and there was

loads of excitement but it was really the days afterwards, it kind

of went viral on the iPlayer and YouTube. Everyone was saying, did

you see what happened there? The momentum built and demand was out

there to do it again so we worked out how to do it at the beginning of

this year, but shows on sale and find the studio and make the album.

How big is the orchestra? He's got a very large orchestra! So big we

couldn't bring it today. 65 piece. That was part of the reason why it

took so long to organise it because we wanted that scale and it really

does move you. The orchestral thing is fantastic. There must be quite a

lot of challenges if you are combining those two sorts of music.

I wanted to honour how great this music was. These tunes first came

out in the late 80s and early 90s at the beginning of house music, rave,

techno and these were really special records and sometimes I don't think

they get the props they deserve so proving to people that you can

orchestrate them and perform them in that way, that's why I think it got

such a great reaction. When these tracks were made, the musicians in

Chicago and Detroit couldn't do it with an orchestra. They did it with

one finger wizardry. We've got a clip here of Insomnia at the Royal

Albert Hall in 2015. APPLAUSE

That is quite amazing. We kept the players playing with some hand

signals between me and Jules and they were cursing is at the end

because they had to go round and round. It is quite a challenging

thing to get some sort of pulse of music to keep it rhythmic. Live

music is often a challenge. They play it all. There is nothing

running underneath. Had you played the Albert Hall before? Never. It

was a first and that's my couldn't turn it down. I'd never done

anything like that before but when you get offered the Albert Hall, you

have to do it! So people have got another experience, to see if they

can experience it live. We are going to Birmingham, London and

Manchester. It is a marvellous record. We look forward to hearing

Amazing people. Over here, we have met Mr Duke Fakir the four Tops and

we have one of the Temptations who is performing with this this

evening, Otis Williams! What fantastic music, millions of people

love your music, minions of people love your records, now you are on

tour with the four Tops, you have got Grammys, you must go back a long

way with them. Do you have fun? It is a friendly rivalry, we love them,

but on stage, we try to kill them! LAUGHTER

He's here now, just behind me. Hey! How you doing! When you go on stage,

the friendliness is gone. I know that the four Tops will be trying to

slay the Temptations, that is a friendly rivalry that has been going

on since the 60s. Great for them to see, so what do people see when they

come out of the show? They will see the traditional Temptations, as we

have been going, the fancy suits, and whatever, so we will still be

the character that we have been since Day 1. You are going to do

another song in a moment. We are going to do just my imagination.

out, put it on, and I was 16, girls would burst into tears, there is one

chord, the five chord, they would burst into tears. The power of

music, especially when you can move "the birds"(!) LAUGHTER
