Welcome to Cash In The Attic, the programme that searches

0:00:010:00:04

out treasures around your home and then sells them for you at auction.

0:00:040:00:08

And today I'm in Surrey, and I thought while I was here

0:00:080:00:11

I would pay a flying visit to the magnificent Nonsuch Mansion.

0:00:110:00:14

This elegant Elizabethan-style mansion forms the focal point of Nonsuch Park.

0:00:140:00:19

It was inspired by Henry VIII's Nonsuch Palace, a lavish hunting lodge destroyed back in 1682.

0:00:190:00:25

This ancient engraving built into the north porch serves as a reminder of the site's distinguished history.

0:00:250:00:31

This glorious place is absolutely crammed with history, but just ten minutes away,

0:00:310:00:36

I'm hoping to uncover a few more important treasures, to sell under the hammer at auction.

0:00:360:00:42

Coming up on today's show, we meet two Cash In The Attic fans

0:01:020:01:05

who just can't wait to show off their prized possessions.

0:01:050:01:09

That is my favourite.

0:01:090:01:11

I think she's so beautiful.

0:01:110:01:14

And while Jonty's suitably impressed...

0:01:140:01:17

I believe the quality of craftsmanship here is as good as I've ever seen.

0:01:170:01:21

..Our arrival isn't all good news.

0:01:210:01:24

This vase, I have to tell you, is no older than my pair of shoes I'm standing in.

0:01:240:01:29

Well, let's hope all is forgiven when the final hammer falls.

0:01:290:01:34

I've come to New Malden in Surrey to meet a couple who've called in

0:01:340:01:37

the Cash In The Attic team to help them raise money

0:01:370:01:40

for a great family day out.

0:01:400:01:42

This three-bedroom detached house in New Malden in Surrey is home to

0:01:430:01:47

enthusiastic gardener Malcolm Parry and his wife, Patricia.

0:01:470:01:50

After ten years together, they finally tied the knot two years ago,

0:01:500:01:54

much to the delight of Malcolm's two children, and Patricia's daughter, son in law and three grandchildren.

0:01:540:01:59

Another auction-goer, Patricia's love of antiques has rubbed off on Malcolm,

0:01:590:02:04

and they are forever looking for a bargain.

0:02:040:02:07

-Jonty, how are you?

-How are you?

0:02:070:02:08

We've got a great household, because lots of interest in here.

0:02:080:02:11

-They like antiques and the lady of the house loves her garden.

-Well, it looks good.

0:02:110:02:16

-She's got three grandchildren and she wants to take them for a really wonderful, fun day out.

-Fantastic.

0:02:160:02:21

-Actually, there's a baby in this family, and this baby is called Jonty, after you.

-No!

0:02:210:02:28

It's going to be an interesting day!

0:02:280:02:30

Let's go and meet the family.

0:02:300:02:31

-So, Patricia and Malcolm, how are you?

-Hello, Gloria.

0:02:330:02:36

-So nice to see you.

-Good to see you.

-I'm so looking forward to seeing all your beautiful things.

0:02:360:02:40

Now, I hear down the line that you two are Cash In The Attic fanatics.

0:02:400:02:44

Absolutely fanatics.

0:02:440:02:46

-We watch it every time we can.

-Is that the truth?

0:02:460:02:49

It's terribly true, yes.

0:02:490:02:51

And what made you, in the end, get in touch with us and call the team in?

0:02:510:02:54

Because we liked it so much, we thought we'd like to have a go of it. We thought we'd like to be on it.

0:02:540:02:59

So how much money would you like to raise, ideally?

0:02:590:03:01

-About £500.

-And how would you spend that?

0:03:010:03:05

I would like to take my grandchildren out for a treat.

0:03:050:03:08

Outside, I was teasing Jonty about the baby in your family called Jonty, after him.

0:03:080:03:13

-Shall we go and find him?

-Yeah!

0:03:130:03:15

OK, let's go.

0:03:150:03:17

'A quick glance around this family home reveals a whole host of potential finds.

0:03:170:03:22

'Let's hope all their collecting pays off.

0:03:220:03:25

'Time to start rummaging, and one man who's never found sitting down on the job

0:03:250:03:29

'is antiques expert, Jonty Hearnden.

0:03:290:03:31

'He's already hard at work in the garage, where he's spotted a rather impressive-looking chair.'

0:03:310:03:36

Hello! What are you doing in my garage?

0:03:360:03:38

Have you been thrown out of the house already?

0:03:380:03:41

Never underestimate a good garage, that's what I say.

0:03:410:03:44

-Right. Pretty chair.

-Lovely chair. Lovely chair. Where's this from?

0:03:440:03:47

-Well, we bought it in Jersey, about 20 years ago.

-Yes?

0:03:470:03:52

-And we had it recovered.

-Have you?

0:03:520:03:54

Yeah. When we originally bought this, it was green, like a pea-green.

0:03:540:03:59

Well, date-wise, it's about 100 years old, and you can tell that by, if you look at the top rail here,

0:03:590:04:05

this stylised fan design, and this stylised acanthus leaf, that's late-Victorian.

0:04:050:04:10

So this chair is a late-Victorian walnut-framed chair.

0:04:100:04:14

The most important thing when you're considering buying a chair like this

0:04:140:04:18

is to make sure that the frame itself is sound,

0:04:180:04:20

because it's quite an expense to have it re-glued properly.

0:04:200:04:24

So, Jonty, how much?

0:04:240:04:26

Value at auction, we're looking sort of £50-80.

0:04:260:04:28

Do you remember how much you paid for it?

0:04:280:04:31

-I paid about 75 for it.

-That just shows you where the market is.

0:04:310:04:35

I've priced that, hopefully, that we can sell it.

0:04:350:04:37

-You've been banished to the garage. Do you think you'll let him back in?

-Yeah, I think so.

0:04:370:04:43

Please, can I come in?

0:04:430:04:44

'Not a bad start, but we need plenty more where that came from

0:04:440:04:48

'if we're to reach Malcolm and Patricia's £500 target.

0:04:480:04:51

'The search is on, and no room will escape a thorough going-over.

0:04:510:04:56

'Downstairs, Malcolm hopes Jonty can shed some light on two ornate lamps bought at a local antiques fair.'

0:04:560:05:02

-What have you got there, Malcolm?

-Ah, Jonty. I've got a pair of these lamps.

0:05:020:05:07

So how long ago did you buy them?

0:05:070:05:09

-About two years ago.

-And what were you told about them?

0:05:090:05:11

-I was told that they were French.

-Mm-hm.

0:05:110:05:15

And the reason I bought them, because they're very stylish.

0:05:150:05:18

I agree. There's an elegance about them.

0:05:180:05:20

As a pair they would look really quite dramatic.

0:05:200:05:22

But they're not particularly old.

0:05:220:05:24

Where did they come from?

0:05:240:05:25

Me and my wife went up to an antique fair, up in Tolworth.

0:05:250:05:29

What were they originally priced at?

0:05:290:05:32

The original asking price was £400 but I managed to knock them down to £200.

0:05:320:05:37

-Well, that's a pity, because I just don't think I can get your money back.

-Oh! Right.

0:05:370:05:42

If they were original, then these would be bronze, often gilded bronze.

0:05:420:05:46

Now, here, the scene here, this crackle glaze ground here

0:05:460:05:50

is another thing that tells me quite clearly that these are

0:05:500:05:53

reproductions, because this scene is neither oriental, nor is it European in style.

0:05:530:05:59

There's a bit of a mish-mash going on there.

0:05:590:06:01

But, rather stylishly, you've got these cherubs, these winged cherubs at the top here.

0:06:010:06:06

And there's an elegance to them, I have to agree.

0:06:060:06:09

But they fall between two stools.

0:06:090:06:11

These have no age at all to them, so they have to be priced accordingly.

0:06:110:06:15

And I can't get your £200 back at all.

0:06:150:06:18

They're more like £50 to £80, £50 to £100, possibly.

0:06:180:06:21

Would you have still hoped to sell them at that price?

0:06:210:06:24

Yes, we would like to put them in.

0:06:240:06:27

OK. I want to find something that's got real antique worth.

0:06:270:06:30

-Shall we go this way?

-Yes, let's have a look.

0:06:300:06:32

They're not 100% kosher,

0:06:330:06:36

so after hearing that, I'm very happy that they are worth something.

0:06:360:06:42

Jonty's estimate may be less than what they originally paid, but £50

0:06:430:06:47

would buy a whole lot of ice cream, so into the kids' fund it goes.

0:06:470:06:52

Maybe this pair of large reproduction candlesticks

0:06:520:06:55

will take our bidders' fancy, with a price tag of £20 to £40.

0:06:550:06:58

Or, indeed, this statuesque oil lamp,

0:06:580:07:00

which Jonty values at a sizeable £40 to £60.

0:07:000:07:05

And with Jonty on a roll, I escape to the garden with

0:07:050:07:08

Malcolm and Patricia to find out more about their love of antiques.

0:07:080:07:11

It is wonderful to be able to sit in your beautiful garden.

0:07:110:07:15

What you've managed to pack into a relatively small garden is amazing.

0:07:150:07:18

So, which one of you's the real gardener?

0:07:180:07:20

I cut the grass. Malcolm does the planting.

0:07:200:07:23

Now, the other thing I've noticed around your house is that you,

0:07:230:07:26

Patricia, are very knowledgeable about antiques, and about auctions.

0:07:260:07:32

Where does that love come from?

0:07:320:07:33

-Well, my granddad. He used to be a totter.

-What's that?

0:07:330:07:37

-A rag and bone man.

-Oh, yes!

0:07:370:07:39

He used to go around and collect all second hand stuff, and then he

0:07:390:07:42

eventually opened a shop in Barbary Road, in Notting Hill Gate.

0:07:420:07:46

Can you do the call of a rag and bone man?

0:07:460:07:48

Rag and bone! Or something like that.

0:07:480:07:50

Not as good as what he could. Yeah, I think that's where it came from.

0:07:500:07:55

I used to love rummaging round that shop.

0:07:550:07:57

Now, how important is family life to both of you?

0:07:570:08:00

-Very important.

-I've got three grandchildren, two girls and a boy.

0:08:000:08:04

My grandkids love him. Especially Alfie.

0:08:040:08:07

We always care and look after our families the best we can.

0:08:070:08:12

-Hence today. Hence the programme.

-Hence today, yeah.

0:08:120:08:15

I've really enjoyed sitting in your beautiful garden, but you know what?

0:08:150:08:19

-I've got to put you back to work. Shall we go back indoors?

-Yes.

0:08:190:08:23

-OK.

-Let's go back.

0:08:230:08:24

'With just over a third of our target accounted for, we need to find some real gems

0:08:240:08:29

'if Malcolm and Patricia are going to treat their grandchildren to a grand day out.

0:08:290:08:33

'Jonty values this nine-branch chandelier

0:08:330:08:36

'at £20 to £40.

0:08:360:08:37

'With its electrical fittings in working order,

0:08:370:08:40

'this will hopefully set a bidder truly alight, come the sale day.

0:08:400:08:43

'But it looks like Patricia's prized lily vase has also caught his eye.'

0:08:430:08:48

Wow.

0:08:480:08:51

-What is this?

-That is my favourite. I think she's so beautiful.

0:08:510:08:54

The gentleman who put this up to auction lives in Eastbourne,

0:08:540:08:59

and he was having his garden renovated, and he dug it up.

0:08:590:09:04

-No!

-And he was digging. Yeah!

0:09:040:09:06

-And he said that's where he dug it up from.

-He saw you coming.

0:09:060:09:10

He did. I reckon he did.

0:09:100:09:12

-Can I tell you what we're looking at here?

-Yes.

0:09:120:09:14

Stylistically, this vase is art nouveau.

0:09:140:09:17

And if you look at it, we've got this very floral work going on here,

0:09:170:09:22

so we've got these lily leaves, and at the top here, we've got this lily head.

0:09:220:09:28

And then hugging the whole thing is this maiden.

0:09:280:09:30

And all of those were used prolifically

0:09:300:09:34

in the art nouveau period.

0:09:340:09:36

This vase, I have to tell you,

0:09:360:09:38

is no older than my pair of shoes I'm standing in.

0:09:380:09:41

Oh, no!

0:09:410:09:42

The reason why I'm sure you were attracted to the vase

0:09:420:09:45

is that it's such a beautiful shape.

0:09:450:09:48

And for obvious reasons, therefore, they have reproduced the style.

0:09:480:09:52

-So how much did you pay for it?

-£300.

0:09:520:09:55

Ow!

0:09:550:09:57

I can't see this selling for more than £50, or there or thereabouts.

0:09:570:10:01

-That is shocking!

-Yeah.

0:10:010:10:03

Oh, my... You're gonna need smelling salts after this.

0:10:030:10:06

So is it going, then?

0:10:060:10:07

-Yes, please.

-Got to go.

-Got to go.

0:10:070:10:10

You'll weep on the day, but it'll be interesting to see. Are you going to carry this out?

0:10:100:10:14

-I'll take this out.

-OK.

0:10:140:10:16

Very disappointed about that,

0:10:160:10:18

because I really, truly believed that it would be what I paid for it.

0:10:180:10:24

Well, the vase may be a thing of beauty,

0:10:240:10:26

but it's another reproduction, worth a very disappointing £50.

0:10:260:10:31

With time a-ticking,

0:10:310:10:32

Malcolm hopes this striking pendulum wall clock will do well,

0:10:320:10:35

at Jonty's estimation of £40 to £80.

0:10:350:10:39

And Patricia's clearly charmed by these two porcelain figurines.

0:10:390:10:43

Fingers crossed they'll have the same effect on our bidders.

0:10:430:10:46

-Jonty, have a look at these.

-What have you got?

-Two...

0:10:460:10:49

This lady here, the ballerina...

0:10:490:10:51

-OK?

-Yes, she's Royal Dux, or Dukes?

0:10:510:10:53

It's Royal Dux, yes.

0:10:530:10:55

And this lady here, same.

0:10:550:10:58

Yes. Are these recent acquisitions?

0:10:580:11:00

These were bought about 15 years ago.

0:11:000:11:05

OK. Let's take this one first of all.

0:11:050:11:08

Can I do a quick swap, so you hold the ballerina?

0:11:080:11:10

-OK.

-But this is the dancer with the snake.

0:11:100:11:12

She has a feeling of being 1920s, one of those exotic dancers, doesn't she?

0:11:120:11:17

But this model is still sold today.

0:11:170:11:21

During the '50s, they got rid of a lot of their moulds,

0:11:210:11:23

but what has happened in recent times is that they have started to use some of their older moulds.

0:11:230:11:28

So whether this was an old mould or not, I'm not quite sure.

0:11:280:11:32

But if you have a look on the underside here, it says Czech Republic.

0:11:320:11:37

So this is beyond the early 1990s.

0:11:370:11:40

-Yes?

-So you can tell that she's rather contemporary, even though she has that antique feel.

0:11:400:11:45

-Yes.

-All right? The ballerina is much more of the style, isn't she?

0:11:450:11:50

-Yes.

-You have this sense of being Royal Dux, which is

0:11:500:11:53

this lovely, ceramic gracefulness to Royal Dux.

0:11:530:11:56

Yes, they are beautiful, yes.

0:11:560:11:58

Do you remember roughly what you were paying for them?

0:11:580:12:00

£40 a pair.

0:12:000:12:01

I'm hoping that we might be able to get £100, £150, possibly, for you.

0:12:010:12:05

-That's wonderful news.

-So we can definitely put these into the sale?

0:12:050:12:09

-Yes, please.

-Good. Let's put them back in for safe keeping.

0:12:090:12:12

-Where to next?

-Follow me.

0:12:120:12:14

We're pulling out all the stops here in New Malden in Surrey,

0:12:170:12:20

and are edging ever closer to our £500 target.

0:12:200:12:24

Determined to raise the bar, Patricia decides to sell

0:12:240:12:27

her collection of six framed Spy cartoons.

0:12:270:12:30

These satirical prints originally appeared in Vanity Fair magazine,

0:12:300:12:34

between 1868 and 1914,

0:12:340:12:36

and should raise a much-needed £50 to £80.

0:12:360:12:40

But with the day nearly done, Jonty has one last find up his sleeve.

0:12:400:12:44

Ah, you found my bronzes!

0:12:440:12:46

Yes. Now, these are a lovely pair. Where do they come from?

0:12:460:12:49

They're from a little second hand shop in Hampton.

0:12:490:12:53

-They were £50 a pair.

-And what do you know about them?

0:12:530:12:56

Well, I looked up on the internet,

0:12:560:12:59

and I found out that Marcel Debut was the sculptor.

0:12:590:13:04

My, you have been doing your homework!

0:13:040:13:07

These are very high quality indeed.

0:13:070:13:09

In fact, one of his recent works sold for about £5,000 at auction,

0:13:090:13:13

and that's very recently.

0:13:130:13:14

But these are copies of his work.

0:13:140:13:18

And when I say copies, they're recently done.

0:13:180:13:21

-Oh.

-I'll show you for why.

0:13:210:13:23

If you turn a bronze upside down and have a look at the underside,

0:13:230:13:27

here it's really quite clean.

0:13:270:13:29

It really looks quite new, in fact.

0:13:290:13:32

A period bronze would have a lot of oxidisation there,

0:13:320:13:35

lots of different colours, apart from anything else.

0:13:350:13:38

-Oh, no!

-OK, so they're not £4,000 or £5,000 worth of bronzes, all right?

0:13:380:13:43

-Right.

-But you've done your homework, because the signature

0:13:430:13:47

is here on the side, and the quality is very, very good.

0:13:470:13:50

In fact, they're so good,

0:13:500:13:51

I thought they were original until I turned them upside down.

0:13:510:13:55

-So what do you think they're worth, then?

-I heard that question!

0:13:550:13:58

And we would like to know as well, how much they're worth.

0:13:580:14:01

Well, they're really good quality.

0:14:010:14:03

In fact, these are as good reproductions as I've ever seen.

0:14:030:14:06

Are you very hopeful?

0:14:060:14:08

Keeping my fingers crossed.

0:14:080:14:09

Well, I'm going to keep you in suspense a bit longer,

0:14:090:14:12

because there's one thing I want to ask Jonty,

0:14:120:14:15

before we actually hear what these are worth,

0:14:150:14:17

-because you know I teased him at the beginning?

-I do.

0:14:170:14:20

About the baby, named after Jonty?

0:14:200:14:22

This is a photograph. Handsome boy.

0:14:220:14:25

Doesn't look a bit like me.

0:14:250:14:27

I don't know!

0:14:270:14:29

OK, that's enough of the tease.

0:14:290:14:31

Obviously, you want to know how much these figurines are worth, and so do we.

0:14:310:14:34

So what is the amount?

0:14:340:14:35

I reckon, because they're such good copies,

0:14:350:14:38

I think they should be worth between £400 and £600!

0:14:380:14:42

-What, for the pair?

-For the pair.

-My God!

0:14:420:14:45

I'm sure you're dying to know the actual total,

0:14:450:14:47

and just to recap, you wanted at least £500.

0:14:470:14:50

So you'll be thrilled to know that you have at least £820.

0:14:500:14:56

My God! That is absolutely fantastic.

0:14:560:14:59

Isn't that amazing?

0:14:590:15:01

-That is brilliant.

-Thank you very much indeed.

-Thank you.

0:15:010:15:05

We agree...a fantastic result.

0:15:050:15:07

Let's hope those bids come rolling in come auction day,

0:15:070:15:10

so that Malcolm and Patricia can spoil rotten their nearest and dearest.

0:15:100:15:14

Going under the hammer,

0:15:140:15:15

a pair of ornate reproduction table lamps, valued at £50 to £80.

0:15:150:15:20

Two all-singing, all-dancing Royal Dux porcelain figurines,

0:15:200:15:23

with an estimate of £100 to £150.

0:15:230:15:26

a pair of reproduction Marcel Debut bronzes,

0:15:260:15:30

bought for £50 and valued at a staggering £400 to £600.

0:15:300:15:34

Then Patricia's prized lily vase

0:15:340:15:36

with a disappointing £50 price tag.

0:15:360:15:38

Will one of our bidders fall head over heels for it?

0:15:380:15:42

For £20...

0:15:420:15:44

Still to come on Cash In The Attic,

0:15:440:15:45

our couple have high hopes for their items.

0:15:450:15:48

5, 80, 5...

0:15:480:15:50

But they're in for some nasty surprises.

0:15:500:15:52

-Oh, no!

-No!

0:15:520:15:54

Will they reach their target? Find out when the final hammer falls.

0:15:540:15:59

So, it's been a few weeks now since we talked to Malcolm and Patricia at their home in Surrey,

0:16:030:16:08

and we've brought all their collectibles here to the Chiswick Auction Rooms in west London.

0:16:080:16:13

Just to remind you, they want to raise £500 so that the entire family can have a wonderful day out.

0:16:130:16:19

A lot of people are waiting to see the results of this auction.

0:16:190:16:22

So let's hope there are some big bidders in today, when their items go under the hammer.

0:16:220:16:26

Happily, the saleroom is already bursting with potential bidders,

0:16:280:16:32

and with so many wonderful items to choose from, let's hope they're ready to spend, spend, spend!

0:16:320:16:37

Our expert, Jonty, has already sought out Patricia and Malcolm's mahogany-framed chair,

0:16:370:16:42

but there's no rest for the wicked.

0:16:420:16:44

Wakey-wakey!

0:16:470:16:48

You're not sleeping on the job? Honestly, you're shocking!

0:16:480:16:51

-Me? It's very comfy.

-It is an early start, though, isn't it?

0:16:510:16:55

It's always an early start for me.

0:16:550:16:57

The family are hoping to raise lots of money today for that big day out.

0:16:570:17:00

So there's a lot riding on this.

0:17:000:17:02

Yes, interestingly, I've valued a lot of items under the £100 mark,

0:17:020:17:06

so it matters that they sell, but it's more onus on the bronzes.

0:17:060:17:09

If they sell, then we're laughing.

0:17:090:17:11

-So you're depending on the bronzes, basically.

-Big time.

0:17:110:17:13

I think that Patricia and Malcolm are here, so shall we go and say hello?

0:17:130:17:17

'With all eyes on their lots, Patricia and Malcolm can't wait to get started.

0:17:190:17:23

'But it looks like Patricia might be in two minds about her prized lily vase.

0:17:230:17:27

'Is she really ready to part with it?'

0:17:270:17:29

Patricia and Malcolm, how nice to see you again.

0:17:290:17:32

-Hi, guys.

-Hi!

0:17:320:17:33

I think, maybe judging by your look, you're having second thoughts about this item?

0:17:330:17:37

I was having second thoughts about it, yes.

0:17:370:17:40

I don't mind taking it home.

0:17:400:17:42

So that little part of you is hoping that maybe it'll not sell.

0:17:420:17:46

It's still there with her, because she is absolutely beautiful.

0:17:460:17:50

-How do you think it'll do today?

-It will sell well, because it's a nice, big decorative object.

0:17:500:17:54

Now, is there anything, particularly, that you're happy to see sold?

0:17:540:17:58

Chandelier, please go!

0:17:580:18:00

You're begging, begging, begging! Well, I can see the auctioneer going over to the podiums.

0:18:000:18:05

-Shall we get into position? Do you want to follow us?

-OK.

0:18:050:18:08

Remember, if you're planning on buying or selling goods at auction,

0:18:100:18:14

be aware that you'll have to pay commission and possible other charges,

0:18:140:18:18

so always check first with your local auction house.

0:18:180:18:20

Time to take our places with the first lot of the day,

0:18:200:18:24

the two Royal Dux figurines.

0:18:240:18:25

Now, Patricia paid £50 for this charming pair,

0:18:250:18:28

but will they reach Jonty's estimate of £100 to £150?

0:18:280:18:33

Lot number 78, now, the Royal Dux figure of a ballerina and another one of a snake charmer.

0:18:330:18:38

There we are, Royal Dux, lot number 78.

0:18:380:18:40

Starting me, we'll put it to £100.

0:18:400:18:43

£50? Only £25?

0:18:430:18:45

It's £50, up to £55, £50, £55 now?

0:18:450:18:48

That's a bid there at £50. £55, thank you. 60, 5, 70, 5, 80, 5?

0:18:480:18:52

80, £80, 80.

0:18:520:18:54

85, new bidder.

0:18:540:18:56

90? 85, 90? 90 there, 90. 95? 100?

0:18:560:19:01

-100!

-No. £95. That's money at £95.

0:19:010:19:03

We'll put it at £95. Are we done? Last chance. Done.

0:19:030:19:06

-Fantastic!

-I know!

0:19:060:19:08

It's a great start, and just shy of Jonty's estimate.

0:19:100:19:13

Let's hope our next lot charms its way into one of our bidders' sitting rooms.

0:19:130:19:17

It's the Victorian carver chair, which Jonty valued at £50 to £80.

0:19:170:19:21

Good start, this chair. Start at £50 for it.

0:19:230:19:26

£50 for it, £40 for it.

0:19:260:19:28

Thank you, bidder, £40.

0:19:280:19:31

40, two. Two at £40.

0:19:310:19:33

Two next to it. 45, 48, 50, 52?

0:19:330:19:37

52, 55.

0:19:370:19:40

Is that it? 55? £52, are we done?

0:19:410:19:45

-Done for £52.

-£52.

0:19:450:19:46

-£52 is very good indeed.

-Very good.

0:19:460:19:49

-Well, done.

-You've done well.

-Good, good.

0:19:490:19:51

So that's another £52 towards our target.

0:19:530:19:56

Next up under the hammer is the statuesque oil lamp

0:19:560:19:59

with a £40 to £60 estimate.

0:19:590:20:01

Let's hope it burns a hole in somebody's pocket.

0:20:010:20:04

50, 5, 60, 5, 70. 75? Gone?

0:20:040:20:09

-70, back in.

-70!

-You got it £70.

0:20:090:20:12

Well, that was unexpected, and £10 over Jonty's higher estimate.

0:20:120:20:16

Let's hope Patricia's lily vase fares as well.

0:20:160:20:19

She's obviously besotted with it, but Jonty isn't as enamoured,

0:20:190:20:23

and values it at a mere £50 to £60.

0:20:230:20:25

Will any of our bidders fall for it?

0:20:250:20:27

-A vase...

-Are you ready? OK.

-The vase, what's it worth?

0:20:270:20:32

£50 for it? £30 for it?

0:20:320:20:33

-30, 30 bid.

-£20.

0:20:330:20:35

-Oh, no.

-£20?

0:20:350:20:37

-Oh, no! No!

-It's worth more.

0:20:370:20:38

Am I bid £20 for it? Thank you, a bid at £20.

0:20:380:20:41

£20, 22? 20? Another bid? No?

0:20:410:20:45

£20, 235.

0:20:450:20:47

Oh, dear. It's a disappointing £20,

0:20:470:20:51

and having forked out £300 for this beauty,

0:20:510:20:53

does Patricia wish she'd held on to it?

0:20:530:20:58

It was one of the things I would have liked to have taken home again.

0:20:580:21:01

But never mind... it's gone to a nice home, I hope.

0:21:010:21:03

Having already made a loss, with these reproduction table lamps,

0:21:030:21:07

I hope for Patricia and Malcolm's sake they reach at least Jonty's £50 to £80 estimate.

0:21:070:21:11

£50, they're sold at £50.

0:21:110:21:14

Oh, relief. Some good news. And a further £50 towards our target.

0:21:140:21:19

Let's hope our bidders still have some cash to burn,

0:21:190:21:22

as up next is Patricia and Malcolm's crystal chandelier,

0:21:220:21:25

valued at £20 to £40.

0:21:250:21:26

-Patricia, I think this is happiness with you, because you want this chandelier out, don't you?

-Go!

0:21:260:21:31

£20 for it?

0:21:310:21:33

Bid at 20. 22. 22, 25? 28, 30...

0:21:330:21:36

32, 35, 38, 40...

0:21:360:21:40

-My God!

-42, 45...

0:21:400:21:42

Someone's seen something in it!

0:21:420:21:45

-55...

-55?

-Selling it at £50.

0:21:450:21:48

Thank you. 55? £50.

0:21:480:21:49

Selling it at £50. £50, are we done?

0:21:490:21:51

Last chance. £50, thank you.

0:21:510:21:53

What did you think?

0:21:530:21:54

-Thank you!

-Excuse me while I laugh!

0:21:540:21:57

I was very pleased to see the chandelier go,

0:21:590:22:01

because I hated it and I would have paid someone to take it away!

0:22:010:22:05

Well, it just goes to show... one man's trash really is another man's treasure.

0:22:050:22:10

And at £50, that's £10 over Jonty's higher estimate.

0:22:100:22:13

It looks like the odds are stacked in our favour today,

0:22:130:22:18

and with over £300 in the kids' day out kitty so far,

0:22:180:22:21

our £500 target is within our sights.

0:22:210:22:24

But with just four items to go, a lot rides on these two reproduction Marcel Debut bronzes.

0:22:240:22:29

This is the really, really big one.

0:22:290:22:31

'He's looking for them to reach £400 to £600.'

0:22:310:22:35

And here they come.

0:22:350:22:37

I'm starting you, £300. £300 starting bid, £300, £300? Start me, somebody, £300.

0:22:370:22:43

No-one's offering £300. I'm going to pass it on.

0:22:430:22:47

-Not too many takers.

-£300.

-Oh, no!

0:22:490:22:52

So how do you feel?

0:22:520:22:56

That was a big disappointment, that.

0:22:560:22:57

But people just don't know, sometimes, like me.

0:22:570:23:00

No class today, I'm afraid!

0:23:000:23:02

'Malcolm and Patricia may be putting on a brave face, but that's a big knock-back,

0:23:020:23:07

'and one they won't recover from if their next three lots don't pick up the pace.

0:23:070:23:11

So with £20 to £40 on the cards, these two reproduction candlesticks

0:23:110:23:16

need to set one of our bidders alight.

0:23:160:23:18

That's a bid of £10. Give me 12. At £10. The only bid at £10.

0:23:180:23:23

Another £10 towards that fabulous day out for all the family!

0:23:230:23:26

Hm, not bad,

0:23:260:23:28

but it's £10 short of Jonty's estimate,

0:23:280:23:30

and we need every single penny at this stage in the day.

0:23:300:23:33

Patricia may be in high spirits, but will she have the last laugh?

0:23:330:23:37

With time nearly upon us, this grand pendulum wall clock,

0:23:370:23:41

priced at £40 to £80, needs to set our bidders' hands in motion.

0:23:410:23:45

£40 for it?

0:23:450:23:46

-Somebody give me £40 or I'll pass it on. £40, 42, 45, 48, 50...

-50!

0:23:460:23:53

60, 65. 60, it's been taken.

0:23:530:23:55

65 back in. 70, 5?

0:23:550:23:58

You out at £70? £70, last chance.

0:23:580:24:00

All done at £70, then.

0:24:000:24:02

£70, that is good.

0:24:020:24:04

And what did you pay for that?

0:24:040:24:06

-Next to nothing.

-Yeah, next to nothing. About £30.

0:24:060:24:09

Double your money.

0:24:090:24:10

That's more like it...a timely £70.

0:24:120:24:15

But is it too little, too late?

0:24:150:24:17

With one more item up for grabs, all eyes are on our bidders.

0:24:170:24:21

Will our final lot,

0:24:210:24:23

the six satirical Spy prints, priced at £50 to £80, come up trumps?

0:24:230:24:28

Now, I spy with my little eye, six spy prints.

0:24:280:24:31

£50. £50. For the six. £50, £40.

0:24:310:24:36

£40, 42, 48, 50, 5, 60.

0:24:360:24:41

Thank you. 5, 70.

0:24:410:24:44

70, 75, 80, 85, at £80...

0:24:440:24:49

One more, one more!

0:24:490:24:50

Going at £80... For £80 all done.

0:24:500:24:53

For £80, all out. All done at £80.

0:24:530:24:56

-£80!

-That's really good.

0:24:560:24:57

That's better than really good... that's fantastic,

0:24:570:25:01

and bang on Jonty's higher estimate.

0:25:010:25:04

But will it be enough to give the children a treat?

0:25:040:25:06

-So, have you enjoyed your day out?

-Absolutely.

-It's been lovely.

0:25:060:25:10

Well, just to recap on the whole thing, you wanted in and around £500 to have a wonderful family day out.

0:25:100:25:15

Well, your result is...

0:25:150:25:17

£497!

0:25:170:25:20

-497.

-I can't believe that!

0:25:200:25:23

Because you thought it was going to be, what?

0:25:230:25:25

-I thought it was going to be about 250.

-I know! That is so good!

0:25:250:25:29

-You're going to have a great time.

-Thank you.

0:25:290:25:33

Fantastic, and well done, Patricia.

0:25:330:25:35

I hope you all have a great day out.

0:25:350:25:38

-We will.

-I tell you what, it's a lot of spending money!

0:25:380:25:40

The kids'll spend that!

0:25:400:25:42

The auction went really well. We were really pleased with the result.

0:25:480:25:52

We're going to take the kids go-karting.

0:25:520:25:55

Because they did well in their SATs this year...

0:25:550:25:58

they got straight As and we were so pleased with them...we wanted to give them a good day out.

0:25:580:26:02

The family are all raring to go,

0:26:020:26:05

and can't wait to get into their gear and hit the track.

0:26:050:26:09

With helmets on and seatbelts fastened, they're off.

0:26:090:26:12

And it's pedal to the metal all the way.

0:26:120:26:14

This family may be close, but out on the track it's every man, woman and child for themselves.

0:26:140:26:20

With engines revving and tyres screeching,

0:26:200:26:22

it's watch out, Lewis Hamilton, the Dean-Parrys are on the move!

0:26:220:26:26

-It was brilliant.

-It was really, really fun.

0:26:260:26:28

-Did you enjoy it?

-Yeah.

0:26:280:26:29

We all had a really fantastic time.

0:26:290:26:31

Well, it looks like Patricia and all the family have had

0:26:360:26:39

just the most wonderful day out, all having a great time.

0:26:390:26:42

Now, if you've got some collectibles hidden around your home,

0:26:420:26:45

and you'd like to join us on the programme one day, it's very easy.

0:26:450:26:48

All you have to do is to go to our website.

0:26:480:26:52

And let's hope that I will see you one day on...

0:26:520:26:55
