Cardiff ahead of second round of Six Nations matches. That is on sports | :00:00. | 3:59:59
day. Now time for the Film Review. We have Deadpool, an anti-superhero | :00:00. | :00:38.
romp. We have A Bigger Splash. Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes and a | :00:39. | :00:44.
debut from Steven Fingleton. Deadpool. Marvel comics. Yes | :00:45. | :00:54.
self-ref rential. Ryan Reynolds is the avenger character who is good | :00:55. | :00:58.
looking, but lost his good looks through a mutation that made him | :00:59. | :01:05.
indestructible. The film exists on the fringes of the X-Men universe | :01:06. | :01:12.
and it is breaking the fourth wall and making jokes about where it | :01:13. | :01:16.
comes from. It is a 15-rated film. It is not a film for clips. Not a | :01:17. | :01:25.
film for kids. Here is one clip we can show. | :01:26. | :01:34.
Go get some. Wait for it. Superhero landing. That is hard on your knees. | :01:35. | :01:52.
Impractical. You're a lovely lady, but I'm saving mooims for Francis. I | :01:53. | :02:00.
prefer not to hit a woman... I mean... That is why I brought her? | :02:01. | :02:08.
Oh no, finish your tweet. Give us a second. Hashtag it. Go get her, | :02:09. | :02:22.
tiger. Twit we are superheroes. I laughed all the way through and | :02:23. | :02:27.
there is a lot of dialogue, I speak as somebody who still likes Viz | :02:28. | :02:36.
comic and a lot is like Roger Melee man on the telly talk. It is not a | :02:37. | :02:45.
patch on Kick Ass. But it is more consistently funny in a guilty | :02:46. | :02:49.
pleasure way than many of the alleged comedies. I laughed all the | :02:50. | :02:57.
way through, that is more that can be said of Zoolander Two. People who | :02:58. | :03:03.
don't like it really don't like it. They think it has a smugness to it. | :03:04. | :03:07.
But it has the strength of its convictions and has in the central | :03:08. | :03:11.
character, somebody who is good at doing that motor mouth potty mouthed | :03:12. | :03:20.
sweary comic book violence, with an offhand panache and also oddly it | :03:21. | :03:24.
does not run out. You would expect after half an hour of hearing this | :03:25. | :03:29.
guy constantly doing the baerpt it would be enough. But I laughed all | :03:30. | :03:36.
the way through. -- banter. I can think of few comedies where that is | :03:37. | :03:42.
the case. I'm a big fan of juvenile humour. It is not kid-friendly | :03:43. | :03:48.
and... Juvenile but not kid-friendly. Exactly. A Bigger | :03:49. | :03:54.
Splash, a David Hockney painting some will think. Yes and the title | :03:55. | :04:01.
nods to that. It is a remake of la Piscine. Tilda Swinton is a rock | :04:02. | :04:09.
diva who has lost her voice and he is on this Italian island and into | :04:10. | :04:15.
the island comes Ralph Fiennes as her old flame who, talks constantly | :04:16. | :04:19.
and brings with him a young woman who may or may not be his recently | :04:20. | :04:23.
discovered daughter. He is a force of nature. He wants to get back with | :04:24. | :04:29.
Tilda Swinton's character and you get this drama of four people with | :04:30. | :04:35.
broiling interpersonal tension in which all the characters are in | :04:36. | :04:40.
various ways hellish and annoying and the director takes cruel fun in | :04:41. | :04:44.
watching them tear each other apart. I think the performances are | :04:45. | :04:53.
terrific. Ralph Fiennes lip sinking and dancing to the rolling stones is | :04:54. | :04:57.
something you won't forget. It takes a lot of patience to spend a lot of | :04:58. | :05:02.
time in the company of these people. If they were at a party, you would | :05:03. | :05:06.
leave. With Ralph Fiennes it is difficult to believe, he is one of | :05:07. | :05:13.
genius actors. Well he is playing a character that does not stop | :05:14. | :05:18.
talking. And after a while, it becomes grating. It is meant to be | :05:19. | :05:24.
grating as the tensions broil up. There is a Brian Jones story going | :05:25. | :05:30.
on and the way the intrigues play out. It is a well made film. But it | :05:31. | :05:37.
is about people who are hard to share a confined space with. The | :05:38. | :05:45.
director's other film I thought at the end was tedious. The | :05:46. | :05:55.
Survivalalist. -- The Survivalist. It is set in a nonspecific future | :05:56. | :06:01.
where mankind has declined and we are now basically what we think of | :06:02. | :06:06.
as civilised society has fallen apart, although nature has | :06:07. | :06:12.
flourished. It is not where everything is burnt out. We meet a | :06:13. | :06:19.
lone figure. Into his world come two woman. A mother and daughter. And | :06:20. | :06:27.
they form an uneasy alliance in which they distrust each other and | :06:28. | :06:32.
at any moment their actions may turn to violence. You're never sure how | :06:33. | :06:37.
much any of them can be trusted. Made on a small budgets and one of | :06:38. | :06:41.
the most exciting bits of film making I have seen for long time. | :06:42. | :06:50.
Here is a clip. She likes you. Do you like her? Would you like to keep | :06:51. | :07:01.
seeing her? It is small for a reason. But we still found it. We | :07:02. | :07:11.
could clear more land. More hands to manage it. I have managed so far. | :07:12. | :07:22.
You have been lucky. It wasn't luck. The film has been nom named for a -- | :07:23. | :07:31.
nominated for a BAFTA. It is between The Stalker and The Beguiled. I | :07:32. | :07:38.
think what impresses me is it creates a world, without recourse to | :07:39. | :07:45.
special effects and so much dialogue. A lot of what you know | :07:46. | :07:51.
about the people is to do with their physicality and the actions. There | :07:52. | :07:55.
are few moments where people explain the plot and there is a terrific | :07:56. | :08:03.
look. Demonstrates if a director has a clear vision, it is possible to | :08:04. | :08:08.
tell a story that is complicated with very sort of simple resources. | :08:09. | :08:12.
A terrific performances from all three of the main players and also a | :08:13. | :08:17.
film which I have to say it is not for everyone, its is very harsh and | :08:18. | :08:23.
it has a brutal view existence. Everybody who has survived long | :08:24. | :08:27.
enough to be in this drama has blood on their hands. The only people who | :08:28. | :08:30.
are around are people who have blood on their hands. I thought it was | :08:31. | :08:36.
very impress and very gripping. You are a fan of Northern Ireland in | :08:37. | :08:40.
general and Northern Ireland culturally is hot now in all kinds | :08:41. | :08:48.
of ways. Yes, a Derry-born film maker who has done just a great job. | :08:49. | :08:52.
It is part of location work is good and there is a lot of talent. This | :08:53. | :08:59.
is the kind of film, the sort of film making when somebody has a | :09:00. | :09:03.
great idea of what they want to do and set themselves strict pe ram -- | :09:04. | :09:15.
pe ram terse. -- parameters. But it is unforgiving. It is a bleak movie. | :09:16. | :09:23.
I have seen The Road. The Road is a laugh riot in comparison! Now, your | :09:24. | :09:32.
Icelandic knitwear product placement The Rams is your film of week. We | :09:33. | :09:36.
reviewed this last week and I wants you to see it. It is a trajy comedy | :09:37. | :09:46.
that is about two brothers in Iceland raising sheep and they're | :09:47. | :09:52.
threatened by an outbreak of scrapie and can they pull together. I | :09:53. | :09:57.
thought it was really impressive. I went in knowing nothing about it. | :09:58. | :10:03.
Terrific performances. Utterly dead pan, things where you don't know | :10:04. | :10:09.
where to laugh or cry. A lovely sound track and well worth seeing on | :10:10. | :10:14.
the big screen. The only reason I do this is we get to cover Deadpool and | :10:15. | :10:23.
an Icelandic movie about sheep. I hope people seek out Rams. Crimson | :10:24. | :10:34.
Peak is your DVD choice. This is open to lukewarm response, but I | :10:35. | :10:40.
think is great and a full blooded gothic fantasy and wonderfully | :10:41. | :10:45.
designed and the story relates to Poe and the first time I watched it | :10:46. | :10:49.
I thought it was really ripe and enjoy yavenlt I have seen -- | :10:50. | :10:57.
enjoyable. I thought the poster looks terrible. It is not The Adams | :10:58. | :11:05.
family. That is right. Given the films are hard to sell, because | :11:06. | :11:13.
they're difficult and how you design a movie like Pan's labyrinth. That | :11:14. | :11:18.
image you're seeing, it is not that film, it is a much better film. And | :11:19. | :11:30.
you will finds more news and reviewses online. That is foirt this | :11:31. | :11:33.
week. Thank I -- that is fit for this week thank you watching and | :11:34. | :11:35.
goodbye. | :11:36. | :11:38. |
