Hello and welcome to a One Show Children In Need Special. We are | :00:22. | :00:27.
counting down to one of the biggest fund-raising parties on Earth here | :00:27. | :00:30.
at Television Centre. We have a Pudsey-packed show to get through. | :00:30. | :00:35.
Matt is on course to finish his rickshaw ride. He will be arriving | :00:35. | :00:40.
live over there at the gate. It is the end of an incredible 480-mile | :00:40. | :00:46.
journey from Edinburgh to London. Here he is this afternoon coming | :00:46. | :00:50.
through Camden. We are expecting him at any moment now. Pudsey is | :00:50. | :00:54.
waiting patiently, as is his family. We have also got some very special | :00:54. | :01:02.
guests with us, too. Cheryl Fergison and Shona McGarty, aka | :01:02. | :01:07.
Whitney and Heather from EastEnders. We have Susanna, Sophie and Sian, | :01:07. | :01:11.
our newsreaders. There is a lot of excited girls here tonight because | :01:11. | :01:16.
we have One Direction! CHEERING Nice to see you. There is still | :01:16. | :01:20.
time to get your donations in towards Matt's epic challenge. Give | :01:20. | :01:27.
me a hand here. If you can, please donate by texting the word "MATT" | :01:27. | :01:37.
:01:37. | :01:40. | ||
Very nicely done. More from the boys later. Also coming up, what | :01:40. | :01:45.
happened when we put this unlikely group together for a performance | :01:45. | :01:49.
with a difference. We are pretty excited but we are also nervous. | :01:49. | :01:56.
How is this going to work? Anything could happen. It is different to | :01:56. | :02:04.
what we usually do. I can't wait. It will be a really tough gig. We | :02:04. | :02:14.
:02:14. | :02:28. | ||
Are there any other questions? Stay with us to find out what that | :02:28. | :02:33.
is all about. I can't believe these boys are here in a T-shirt! Anita | :02:33. | :02:37.
Rani heads to Pembrokeshire to swot up on the outstanding performance | :02:37. | :02:41.
of one super school that is top of Pudsey's leaderboard. | :02:41. | :02:45.
Every year, schools across Britain do a fantastic job of raising money | :02:45. | :02:50.
for Children In Need. One in particular is top of the class. | :02:50. | :02:53.
Milford Haven School in West Wales consistently raises more money than | :02:53. | :03:00.
any other school in the UK. Rush hour! Over the last seven years, | :03:00. | :03:07.
they have made Pudsey 100,000 richer. Last year alone they pulled | :03:07. | :03:14.
in 22,000 with money-raising stunts like this game against the | :03:14. | :03:24.
:03:24. | :03:25. | ||
teachers. It is madness out there. The teachers are dressed up as | :03:25. | :03:28.
wizards! The school's fund-raising seems more remarkable when you | :03:28. | :03:32.
consider that there are areas of great deprivation in Pembrokeshire. | :03:32. | :03:37.
One thing there's no shortage of, though, is generosity. There must | :03:37. | :03:41.
be something in the water. Speaking of which... I have agreed to join | :03:41. | :03:46.
the sixth formers in one of their stunts. Now I'm faced with the | :03:46. | :03:52.
reality, I'm having second thoughts. I'm in Wales and it's mid-November. | :03:52. | :03:58.
# Feeling hot... # I don't do the sea! They call it | :03:58. | :04:03.
the Big Dip. The sixth form has been sponsored to run into the sea | :04:03. | :04:07.
for a refreshing winter swim and I'm going with them. I don't know | :04:07. | :04:10.
if you have been in the sea in November. It is like a frozen | :04:11. | :04:14.
planet. Why are we doing this? is for Children In Need! How much | :04:14. | :04:20.
have you raised? I have got about 500. That is incredible. The | :04:20. | :04:23.
school's so committed to fund- raising that even the headmaster's | :04:23. | :04:28.
braving the sea. What an incredible bunch of students you have. | :04:28. | :04:33.
Absolutely. The money they have raised over the last 11 or 12 years, | :04:33. | :04:38.
the effort they put in. As a sixth form, they are a joy. You are kind | :04:38. | :04:42.
of putting yourself out there a bit. If you chicken out, then it is game | :04:42. | :04:46.
over. They will never forgive you, you have lost all respect? I will | :04:46. | :04:51.
not chicken out. I am sure you won't either! On your marks, get | :04:51. | :05:01.
:05:01. | :05:10. | ||
# Washing on sunshine... # ---walking on sunshine... # | :05:10. | :05:15.
This dip has raised a grand total of more than 3,500 for Children In | :05:15. | :05:25.
Need. The headmaster isn't a chicken! Fair play, Mr Morgan. In | :05:25. | :05:30.
fact, not a single person's chickened out... Yet! Did someone | :05:30. | :05:40.
:05:40. | :05:42. | ||
say I had to do this? OK, I'm going to do it! Gracefully done(!) And so | :05:42. | :05:47.
another typical school day draws to a close. Now I understand why | :05:47. | :05:50.
Milford Haven School have done so exceptionally well at raising money | :05:50. | :05:56.
for Children In Need. They are made of tough stuff. And they are all | :05:56. | :06:05.
bonkers! One, two, three... APPLAUSE Well done. Milford Haven | :06:05. | :06:13.
School have raised 25,178 so far this year. Well done. Cheryl | :06:13. | :06:18.
Fergison and Shona McGarty are here. Nice to see you. Hi. Now, the gang | :06:18. | :06:21.
at Albert Square have been doing their bit again for Children In | :06:21. | :06:27.
Need. What have you done? We did a tribute to Queen and it was | :06:27. | :06:31.
hilarious. We had so much fun, dressing up as rock chicks. A few | :06:31. | :06:36.
of the guys were dressed up as Freddie. We managed to get our | :06:36. | :06:42.
hands on some exclusive behind-the- scenes footage. Let's have a look. | :06:42. | :06:51.
Three, two, one, cue the music. is all here. The magic is here! | :06:52. | :06:59.
are all trying to dance in these! The show will be absolutely | :06:59. | :07:05.
marvellous. Don't you love our costumes?! This is going to be the | :07:05. | :07:10.
biggest, most flamboyant Children In Need that EastEnders have done, | :07:10. | :07:17.
ever! It looks like you have had an amazing day. What were the | :07:17. | :07:26.
highlights? For me, I was surrounded by five burly men. It | :07:26. | :07:31.
was lovely. Winner! You did more than just Another One Bites The | :07:31. | :07:41.
:07:41. | :07:41. | ||
Dust? We did Radio Gaga. We can't wait to see the performance later | :07:42. | :07:48.
on. Lovely to see you. Time to launch the official Children In | :07:48. | :07:52.
Need hotline for donations. It is very important, this number. Who | :07:53. | :07:58.
better than the One Direction boys to kick things off. Here they are. | :07:58. | :08:03.
You are on the main show tonight? Yes. Is your hearing OK? You must | :08:03. | :08:09.
get the screaming all the time? has problems with his ears. Are you | :08:09. | :08:15.
doing your new single? We are. you still get nervous? Yes. | :08:15. | :08:21.
nervous now. I'm starting to get it. You have a big job now. Let's get | :08:21. | :08:28.
this donation line launched. Altogether, five, four, three, two, | :08:28. | :08:38.
:08:38. | :08:38. | ||
one... Go! Oh yeah! APPLAUSE There you have it, the all-important | :08:38. | :08:44.
number. The number is 03457 33 22 33. Please donate what you can. | :08:44. | :08:51.
Thanks to the One Direction boys. They will be performing later their | :08:51. | :08:57.
brand-new single. News is in, our boy, Baker, has arrived. Yes, he | :08:57. | :09:00.
has! Just to warn you, there's been lots of interest in Matt's | :09:00. | :09:05.
challenge, so there might be some flash photography as he comes in. | :09:05. | :09:10.
He's over there by the gate. There he is! | :09:10. | :09:20.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Come on, Matt. Nicola, his wife, | :09:20. | :09:26.
and the children are here. Come on, Matt! Over here, Matt! Over there? | :09:26. | :09:34.
Hello! How you doing? All right? Oh, am I glad to see you! I'm so glad | :09:34. | :09:40.
to see you. You must feel relieved? Relief is exactly how I feel. I | :09:40. | :09:44.
cannot put into words what a crazy week I've had. It's extraordinary. | :09:44. | :09:52.
I'm so proud of you. You look fresh as a daisy? Up above here, I'm fine. | :09:52. | :09:58.
I'm wrecked below that! It is extraordinary. To have witnessed | :09:58. | :10:05.
the public support coming down through Britain. You say text, text, | :10:05. | :10:09.
but to see people running after you with money and just giving you it, | :10:09. | :10:13.
wanting you to have it, it is unbelievable. That must have | :10:13. | :10:17.
spurred you on? Yeah. When you are feeling all that pain and stuff, | :10:17. | :10:22.
you see that and you are OK. are our hero. We have a foot spa up | :10:22. | :10:26.
there for you. Pudsey will be on hand to give you a massage. Lovely. | :10:26. | :10:31.
Nicola and Luke and Molly are over there. Yes. Can I see them now? | :10:31. | :10:34.
We will see you later. Before we talk to Matt about the highs and | :10:34. | :10:40.
lows he faced during the 480 miles, Jedward have been to rock out at a | :10:40. | :10:50.
school in Ballymoney. I'm John. Stkpwhri I'm Edward. We are | :10:50. | :10:59.
Jedward! -- I'm Edward! We are Jedward! This is a School of Rock. | :10:59. | :11:05.
We are going to go gatecrash it. Let's go! The kids have been told | :11:05. | :11:09.
they are going to be filmed for Children In Need. They have no idea | :11:09. | :11:15.
that we are here to check it out. Look, here it is. What's up, guys?! | :11:15. | :11:21.
We are Jedward. You guys sound awesome. Who is singing? Put your | :11:21. | :11:26.
hand up. Who is playing guitar? This rock school was started two | :11:26. | :11:30.
years ago. There is not enough space. Many of the group are | :11:30. | :11:35.
disabled, some have learning difficulties and a few are able- | :11:35. | :11:38.
bodied. What would you be doing if you weren't here? Sitting in the | :11:38. | :11:41.
house doing nothing. It is cool that you can come here and perform | :11:41. | :11:48.
and be with all your mates. Singing. This started from a dream. Alan was | :11:48. | :11:52.
a placement student from school. He was so shy. We didn't realise that | :11:52. | :11:57.
he had the most wonderful singing voice. Then he finally sang for us. | :11:57. | :12:04.
When he told us that that was his dream and we began to look at ways | :12:04. | :12:09.
to see if we could make this dream become a reality. That's what the | :12:09. | :12:15.
Children In Need Grant has helped us to do. I'm totally blind. I | :12:15. | :12:20.
don't have an optic nerve. It is difficult sometimes when people are | :12:20. | :12:24.
showing dance moves. When you are singing and performing, do you feel | :12:24. | :12:28.
like you can do anything? I do. It is a whole new lease of life. | :12:28. | :12:32.
People who say you can't, I sort of zone out when ever they say that, | :12:32. | :12:40.
I'm like, "Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'm going to prove you wrong!" | :12:40. | :12:45.
know Teenage Kicks? ALL: Yes! know how to sing it? ALL: Yes! | :12:45. | :12:55.
:12:55. | :12:55. | ||
is about rocking out. We jump through here, we go... LAUGHTER | :12:55. | :13:00.
# I'm going to call her on the telephone... # | :13:00. | :13:10.
:13:10. | :13:18. | ||
# Teenage kicks # Every time she walks down the | :13:18. | :13:21.
street # Another girl in the neighbourhood | :13:21. | :13:27.
# I want to hold you # I want to hold you tight | :13:27. | :13:37.
:13:37. | :13:39. | ||
# Get teenage kicks right through # I need excitement | :13:39. | :13:42.
# And I need it bad # This is the best I've ever had | :13:43. | :13:47.
# I want to hold you # I want to hold you tight | :13:47. | :13:51.
# Get teenage kicks right through the night. # | :13:51. | :14:01.
:14:01. | :14:02. | ||
Yes! APPLAUSE Rock star! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | :14:02. | :14:06.
Thank you, Jedward and the Ballymoney Rock School. Matt Baker | :14:06. | :14:09.
has made it back. Are you comfortable? I am delighted to see | :14:09. | :14:14.
this cup of tea. That is a very nice cup. Plenty of biscuits? | :14:14. | :14:24.
:14:24. | :14:27. | ||
I can see you have lost weight. Anyway, we have had an overwhelming | :14:27. | :14:31.
response. Loads of e-mails and pictures. Now, the crowds must have | :14:31. | :14:35.
really spurred you on while you were on that incredible journey. | :14:35. | :14:39.
I'm not lying when we say we haven't travelled half a mile | :14:39. | :14:42.
without seeing people coming out, in the middle of nowhere. Some of | :14:42. | :14:47.
the landscape we've been over has been so remote and there is people | :14:47. | :14:53.
in the dark just walking along going, "Come on." I don't know how | :14:53. | :14:58.
many high fives I've done. Schools, all the little projects they have | :14:58. | :15:04.
been doing and they have been coming out on the street and coming | :15:04. | :15:07.
out and cheering us. It has been remarkable. | :15:07. | :15:14.
You needed that because watching some of your VTs, I was in tears, | :15:14. | :15:18.
the six mile stretch and you were in tears yourself. Was that your | :15:18. | :15:24.
make or break point? Yes, Stanhope Bank was hard. I knew that bank | :15:24. | :15:28.
well and I have been thinking about it since we left Edinburgh really, | :15:28. | :15:31.
but the people behind you can see there, it was like a force that was | :15:31. | :15:36.
just helping me up. The only time somebody touched the rick saw was | :15:36. | :15:40.
Joe when he was pushing it down so I could get traction so I'm really | :15:40. | :15:45.
pleased with myself. I didn't get off, do you know what I mean? I did | :15:45. | :15:49.
keep pedalling, I just kept going. We always knew you would make it, | :15:49. | :15:53.
but there must have been a a moment when you thought, "I don't know if | :15:53. | :15:58.
I can complete this challenge.". was on the first day. I was hit by | :15:58. | :16:02.
the wind and I was hit by incredible landscape, long hills | :16:02. | :16:06.
and I was going up this bank and it was the point I was thinking, "I'm | :16:06. | :16:11.
going to get off my bike and push it." That was the point where I got | :16:12. | :16:18.
emotional and the cars were coming alongside and shouting, "Come on, | :16:18. | :16:23.
you can do it." From then on, I didn't actually doubt that I would | :16:24. | :16:28.
never get here. I never doubted it for a second. | :16:28. | :16:32.
Some days you would leave in darkness like when you left York | :16:32. | :16:37.
and 78 miles you got to Lincoln and it was dark again. | :16:37. | :16:44.
A strange existence. It was just that that motion of doing that, 16- | :16:44. | :16:48.
and-a-half hours of cycling. You picked up some great | :16:48. | :16:51.
passengers? That was just great, the company you have. It was good | :16:51. | :16:58.
company and beautiful landscape. And little Pudsey as well. Yes, | :16:58. | :17:05.
that was just over the Northumberland and Derham border. | :17:05. | :17:11.
Was it emotional when you saw your dad and your granddad came along? | :17:11. | :17:17.
met my grandpa on the day I was doing the 78 miler and it was | :17:17. | :17:19.
demoralalising and he arrived at the right point. | :17:19. | :17:27.
Just before breaking point. I have to say hello to a lovely | :17:27. | :17:30.
lady called Judith. Your highlight must have been | :17:30. | :17:33.
getting up knowing that you were going to make it home tonight. | :17:33. | :17:43.
:17:43. | :17:47. | ||
Let's look at what sort of day Feeling Buoyant, bobbing along. | :17:47. | :17:51.
There is no doubt about it now, that we're going to do it. There is | :17:51. | :17:59.
no doubt. Hi. What lesson should you be in now? | :17:59. | :18:04.
Maths. This is harder than maths! I'm so pleased with myself that I | :18:04. | :18:09.
haven't actually got off this bike and pushed it up the hill. I | :18:09. | :18:14.
haven't walked any of this route. I've cycled the hole of it -- whole | :18:14. | :18:20.
of it and I'm really pleased about that. Cheers! | :18:20. | :18:27.
I'm not going to stop now. I have been overwhelmed by your support, | :18:27. | :18:31.
by your generosity and by your donations, so many children are | :18:31. | :18:34.
going to be helped and their lives are now going to be so different | :18:34. | :18:39.
because of your donations. So thank you. But I hope you don't mind if | :18:39. | :18:44.
you never ever see me on a rickshaw again! | :18:44. | :18:53.
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE And there is the brilliant moment | :18:53. | :18:55.
when Matt arrived back at Television Centre. You have done | :18:56. | :18:59.
such an amazing job. We're so proud of you, Matt. | :18:59. | :19:04.
All the blood, sweat and tears was so worth it because you have | :19:04. | :19:14.
:19:14. | :19:18. | ||
raised... Here we go. You have You have raised 1,263,272 | :19:18. | :19:24.
for Children in Need. That is amazing. That is amazing. | :19:24. | :19:28.
You know, like I said before, it was just wonderful to have that | :19:28. | :19:32.
connection with those people that have donated and to see even just | :19:32. | :19:37.
the smallest little this morning a young lass came out and she gave me | :19:37. | :19:42.
her dinner money. She put a pound coin in, speaking of which, I have | :19:42. | :19:45.
got this here which I might keep. Hang on, it is just here. It was | :19:45. | :19:51.
given to me as I left and it is a pound note with Edinburgh castle on | :19:51. | :19:56.
it and these are for good luck. I told the guy I would take it all | :19:56. | :20:00.
the way in my pocket and I have done. | :20:00. | :20:05.
Is it too much to ask you to come back to this side of the sofa? | :20:05. | :20:10.
it? It is time to get back to work. It is an odd thing. | :20:10. | :20:16.
We will be Strictly speaking to these three queens of the newsroom. | :20:16. | :20:21.
Am I on camera two? You are. John Torode has been to Edinburgh, | :20:21. | :20:31.
:20:31. | :20:37. | ||
not on a rickshaw, to put his skills against one of Britain's | :20:37. | :20:41.
youngest entrepreneurs. I am not known for having the | :20:41. | :20:44.
sweetest tooth on the planet, but today in bonny Scotland, the sugary | :20:44. | :20:49.
side of my culinary skills are going to be put to the test. | :20:49. | :20:53.
I've come all the way to Edinburgh to make this lovely stuff, | :20:53. | :20:58.
delicious, fruity jam. But being Children in Need, there is a twist. | :20:58. | :21:02.
I'm going to go head-to-head with a rather formidable and extremely | :21:02. | :21:08.
remarkable opponent. Fraser Doherty is a man who has | :21:08. | :21:13.
built a business empire based on jam. At the age of 22, he is one of | :21:13. | :21:18.
Britain's most successful young entrepreneurs and he runs a jam | :21:18. | :21:23.
making company worth over 2 million. Frazer, why jam? Well, | :21:23. | :21:28.
I've always loved jam, but when I was 14, I spent the afternoon | :21:28. | :21:33.
making jam with my grandmother and she shared her recipes and I | :21:33. | :21:39.
started making jam. I started by knocking on doors and selling my | :21:39. | :21:44.
home-made jam door to door and I got a stall at the farmers market | :21:44. | :21:47.
and then eventually to the supermarkets. | :21:47. | :21:52.
At this local cookery school, we're going to make a jam with the winner | :21:52. | :21:56.
decided by a public taste test and we want you to make the winning jam | :21:56. | :22:00.
and sell it on to raise money for this year's Children in Need. | :22:00. | :22:07.
I'm using a recipe inspired by my nanna, a classic plum jam. But | :22:07. | :22:11.
Frazer is going for something more out of the ordinary. | :22:11. | :22:14.
I wanted to try and make a pear jam which isn't a normal kind of jam to | :22:14. | :22:17.
make. How long will that last? Will that | :22:17. | :22:24.
last years? Yeah. Yeah. Although it will probably get eaten quickly | :22:24. | :22:30.
because it is delicious. The Ingredients and chopped in the | :22:30. | :22:34.
pan, it is time for the boil. Jam is fruit mixed with sugar, the | :22:34. | :22:42.
fruit releases a substance called peptin. | :22:42. | :22:47.
The temperature is crucial, it happens to be around 105 degrees | :22:47. | :22:52.
centigrade. Too hot or too cold, you won't have jam. Just a syrupy | :22:52. | :22:58.
mess and there is a test to check. If we've cooked our jams correctly, | :22:58. | :23:02.
they should start to set when dribbled on to a cold plate. | :23:02. | :23:06.
Look at that. I can actually make patterns with it already. All that | :23:06. | :23:10.
remains is for the jam to be poured into sterilised jars and left to | :23:10. | :23:18.
set for a couple of hours, ready for the public. | :23:18. | :23:23.
So this is it, we are at Edinburgh castle and we are about to find out | :23:23. | :23:29.
who is the man with the jam for Children in Need 2011. | :23:29. | :23:35.
Jam-off. Taste whatever you can. | :23:35. | :23:40.
I like the both of them. Both jams seem to be popular, but I | :23:40. | :23:47.
think my plum is edgier. Anyone else like some plum jam? | :23:47. | :23:50.
plum was my favourite. The plum. | :23:50. | :23:52.
I liked the pear better. Plum. | :23:52. | :23:57.
I think I preferred the pear, but the plum was really nice. | :23:57. | :24:02.
No, she loves the plum. It was delicious! | :24:02. | :24:07.
With the detail almost over, it is crunch time for the jam. The | :24:07. | :24:10.
results are in and it has been decided who is the winner. Are you | :24:10. | :24:14.
nervous? Very nervous. Yes, there is a lot at stake. | :24:14. | :24:20.
OK, Pudsey, who is the winner? Oh Pudsey. I'm delighted. | :24:20. | :24:24.
Congratulation. -- congratulations. | :24:24. | :24:34.

have done that. It was the most frightening experience. | :25:16. | :25:23.
With professional partners, Robin and Ian and Vincent. We thought we | :25:23. | :25:31.
were dancing. Ian Waite said scth said, "It is not really dancing, it | :25:31. | :25:38.
is walking." It was soul destroying. We thought it would be genteel laps. | :25:38. | :25:45.
There are a lot of sequins involved. Here they are in training. We have | :25:45. | :25:50.
got footage. How was the rehearsals. Did you rehearse a lot? That's us | :25:50. | :25:56.

fantastic. There was the four of us, Emily Maitlis was with us as well. | :26:03. | :26:09.
Emily can't be here tonight. You had a special guest? We had Angela | :26:09. | :26:12.
Rippon dancing with us and she is the star of the piece. | :26:12. | :26:21.
Look at that. Angela Rippon did Come Dancing 30 | :26:21. | :26:27.
years and as soon as she comes on, it is Angela. Angela is the star of | :26:27. | :26:31.
the show. We can't wait to see the | :26:31. | :26:38.
performance tonight. I don't know what is happening. You | :26:38. | :26:43.
carry on. Remember those musicians, ballet | :26:43. | :26:46.
dancers and burly blokes from the start of the show? Well, it is | :26:46. | :26:51.
time... I don't. It is time to see what happened when they turned up | :26:51. | :26:55.
at a shopping centre in Manchester to give aus surprising message -- | :26:55. | :27:01.
us a surprising message. Do look out for the message at the | :27:01. | :27:11.
