Hi, I'm Andy, and I work here at Pickles' Animal Park.

It's my job to look after the animals.

We've got lots of different birds.

Small birds, big birds and huge birds.

These are ostriches.

The ostrich is the largest bird in the world.

Imagine how big their eggs are.

Before the girl bird lays the eggs,

she needs a boy bird to be the daddy.

That's where Oscar comes in.

Boy birds do a special dance to impress the females.

'Come in, Andy. Andy, come in. Over.'

Oh! That's Mr Pickles, the boss.

Hello, sir. Andy here. Receiving loud and clear. Over.

'I was passing the reindeer enclosure

'and I noticed they seem a little low on moss.

-'Could you bring some over? Over.'

-Not a problem, sir.

I'll pop back to the workshop, get some moss and bring it over. Over.

'Thanks, Andy. Pickles out.'

I've invented a new programme for it.

Sounds amazing. What does it do?

You know how some animals change colour

to blend into the world around them?

Yes. They camouflage.

Camouflage, yes. I thought you might like to do the same sometimes,

to keep a close eye on some of the more dangerous animals in the park.

What, like the lions?

Without them even seeing you!

What a great idea! How does it work?

Oh. It's simple, really.

You just turn the gizmo towards you and say the name of a colour.

-Um, what's your favourite colour?

-Yellow.

Hm-hm-hm. Yellow!

Brilliant! I can't wait to try it on our wild adventures.

-Could you put the gizmo back for me, please?

-Of course I can.

So, what have you been up to?

I've been to the ostrich enclosure to see Oscar.

You should've seen him dancing.

He flapped his wings like this,

and then moved his head from side to side, like this.

Why would anyone do that?!

In the bird world, the boys try to catch the attention of the girls.

And they do it by impressing them.

-They dance like that?

-They do lots of things.

Some birds, like the ostrich, do amazing dances.

There's a bird called the vogelkop bowerbird.

The vogelly-doobely-blue-bom-bom?

-The vogelkop bowerbird.

-Oh. You should've said.

He builds this amazing shelter

and then he decorates it using all the beautiful things

he finds around the forest.

A bird that gets a girlfriend by being a great decorator?

I'd love to see that!

So, where to, Andy?

The second largest island in the world. The island of New Guinea,

where we'll find our bowerbird right in the middle of the rainforest.

Then New Guinea, here we come. Right, cat nav, go!

-Going down!

-Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa!

Wow! It sure is cloudy down there!

That's because it's a rainforest. When there's rain, there's clouds.

Oh, hang on, it looks like we're coming out of it.

Oh, wow! Look at this! This is amazing!

-And look at those jagged peaks! They look really sharp!

-Yeah.

Don't worry, I'm sure there's somewhere safe to land.

Now, this is the perfect place to land, Kip.

Yeah, it certainly is. What a beach!

Come on, let's go and find some bowerbirds.

Who knows what else we might find!

-New Guinea is home to all sorts of incredible birds.

-Oh, great!

-Just what I need. Loads of birds!

-What was that?

Oh. As much as I'd love to join you in the hot, sticky rainforest,

I think I might just stay here and, er, and, er, enjoy the view.

It's not every day we land on a beach as beautiful as this.

I suppose not. All right, if you're sure.

Oh, I'm sure all right! Oh, but Andy?

-Yeah?

I haven't found any bowerbirds, but look what I have found!

It's a bird of paradise.

And this one is a six-plumed bird of paradise.

Oh, I've got to show Kip!

Remember I told you about the different ways

the male birds attract the attention of female birds?

Well, take a look at this guy.

He sure has got some moves, Andy!

He looks like he's in a dance competition.

if I shrink down to its size and fly through the rainforest. Here goes.

I've spotted something that will help us find bowerbirds. Let's go!

Ah, look at this! This is what's called a bower.

It's a colourful shelter built by male birds to attract female birds.

There he is! The bowerbird's back.

Oh, hang on. I don't want to scare him.

Um...I know, I'll hide in the moss so he doesn't see me.

Come on in.

Ah! That's better! Ha-ha!

The bowerbird won't be able to see me. I'm hidden in all this moss.

Oh, hang on a minute. The bowerbird can still see my hands and face.

I need to camouflage myself, really.

I know! Kip's Completely Cool Colour Controller!

Er...brown, like this moss.

Hey, it's working! Kip's a genius!

And just in time, too. The male bowerbird has decorated the bower

with all the things he thinks the female bird will like.

We've got colourful flowers here, berries there,

and bright ones down there.

Even these bugs are trying to help the bowerbird.

They don't stop wriggling, though.

There we go. All done. Pretty good job.

Oh, hang on a minute.

Look, it's the female!

I hope she likes it. Good luck, buddy!

Oh, no!

All that hard work and look, she's just flown away.

She obviously doesn't like red berries and orange flowers

and pink flowers and green beetles.

Ooh! Huh!

As I was saying the colours, I was changing colour!

Look! The female's come back!

She must have been attracted to the colours.

Oh, look! The bowerbird has got a girlfriend!

Oh, I love a good happy ending!

Right, time for me to go.

I'll just change back to my normal colour.

Ooo! Oh, no! Look, I'm stuck!

Oh! How am I going to get out?
