Coming up, CBBC's very own Mark Wright is going to be | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
testing out the velodrome. There he is! Hello, Mark. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
And telling us all about Clash of the Titans for Sport Relief | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
tomorrow night. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
We'll also be making something rather special with | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
all of your sweaty socks. I can't tell you. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
-That's all you're getting. -There they are. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
And it's exciting, you'll see the final part of my epic | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Sport Relief Wave Runner challenge. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
It's going to get hashtag totes emosh! | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
And we want to hear from you, of course, as ever. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
Head online and let us know | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
what you are doing this year for Sport Relief 2016. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
It's all about getting involved. So, we want to hear from you. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Get involved. Get online! | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
But before all of that, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
to tell us more about Sport Relief 2016 is BBC sports reporter | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
-Ore Oduba. Welcome to Blue Peter! -Great to be here! | 0:01:37 | 0:01:42
-APPLAUSE -Thank you! | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
Stop, too much. Carry on. No, stop. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
I'm excited about Sport Relief - tell us what we've got in store. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
Oh, my goodness! What a weekend. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
Always the biggest weekend on the calendar for me. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
I'll start backwards, if I may, Radzi. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:56
Because on the Sunday, we've got the Sport Relief Games. | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
And we're asking kids and everyone around the country | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
to do themselves proud. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
We're asking them to swim, cycle, walk or run. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
Anything they can do, do themselves proud. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
On Sunday in the Sport Relief Games | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
there are thousands of events all over the country, quite literally. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
We're asking people to grab a grown-up, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
get themselves down there on Sunday. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:17
Before that, Friday, so tomorrow night, is the night of TV. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:21
Always one of the best nights of telly. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
So it's live here in the Queen Elizabeth Park, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
from seven o'clock on BBC One. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
And we've roped in so many celebrities to do sketches and | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
-performances. The likes of footballer Rio Ferdinand... -Legend. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
..there's going to be Louis Smith, gymnast, you know him very well. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
-Yes. -Who else? Boxer David Haye. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
So, everybody getting involved for what is always | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
-an epic evening. -I cannot wait. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:45
And I also can't wait for Clash of the Titans. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Happening - in fact, they are setting up as we speak. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Yes, they are doing it right now. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
Clash of the Titans 2016 is back for another year. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
-You're co-hosting! -Thank you, mate. Thank you for making that point. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
I'll be there. Myself and Dan Walker will be in the velodrome here | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
and also the London Aquatics Centre as well. Bringing it together. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
We have two teams, led by sporting royalty. You'll know their names. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
-OK. -Freddie Flintoff, can we get a whoop, anyone? -Woo! | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
-Sir Steve Redgrave. -Woo! -Oh, yeah, he won some medals once upon a time. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:16
So those two are leading teams of celebrities and sporting stars | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
in some huge events. So, if anyone watched Clash of the Titans 2014... | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
-Absolutely. -..we saw rhythmic gymnastics, that was the big one, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
-track cycling... -Yes. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
-We have upped the ante for 2016. -OK. -We've got WRESTLING! -Do we really? | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
We've got wrestling, people. So that's happening, | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
-that's got you excited. -It has. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:37
Veins pumped up and everything, mate. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:39
We've also got a team triathlon. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:41
So to finish the whole event, we've got athletes running | 0:03:41 | 0:03:45
right around the Olympic site, finishing in the Aquatics Centre. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
It will be tense, competitive, it will be awesome. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
Let's talk about YOUR Sport Relief challenge, | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
-which was with The One Show. -Do we have to? -We do! | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
-I've just about got over that one, Radz! -How was it? What was it? | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
Well, it was quite epic. | 0:03:58 | 0:03:59
It was called the Hell On High Seas challenge. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:01
Myself and a bunch of celebrities sailed from Belfast round to London, | 0:04:01 | 0:04:06
and while sailing on a yacht might see like quite an easy adventure, | 0:04:06 | 0:04:10
-it was anything but. -OK. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:13
It was a racing yacht that sailed all around the world, actually. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
We got hold of it for five days. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
Basically the boat goes at a 45-degree angle, like that. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
-So we were having to exist for five days like that. -Seasickness? | 0:04:21 | 0:04:25
I may have done a sick... | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
I may have done three sicks, Radzi. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
It was really, really hard. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:32
Yeah, because this yacht is not built for comfort. | 0:04:32 | 0:04:35
So it's not a cruise liner, this one. There is nothing. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:38
It's stripped back, it's just for racing, just for going fast. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:40
And, yeah, there's no comfort at all. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
But even just trying to put anything on, you're doing it like this... | 0:04:43 | 0:04:46
-Absolutely. -So, it was really hard and intense. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:49
-But all for a fantastic cause, Sport Relief? -Completely. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:51
We raised a load of money, which we're so proud of | 0:04:51 | 0:04:54
and all for Sport Relief, all for so many people that | 0:04:54 | 0:04:58
deserve it and need the money around the UK and round the world as well. | 0:04:58 | 0:05:01
That's what we all do Sport Relief for. That's what this is all about. | 0:05:01 | 0:05:04
Getting people out there, getting involved... | 0:05:04 | 0:05:06
Couldn't say it better myself. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:08
Also, raising huge amounts of cash for the people that need it. | 0:05:08 | 0:05:11
Talking about the important work Sport Relief does, | 0:05:11 | 0:05:13
here is just some of it, and Barney found out how. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:16
This year Sport Relief has made some special films in Bangladesh, | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
to show YOU how they're changing lives. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:25
Barney took them into one school to watch and find out how the money | 0:05:25 | 0:05:28
you raise can make a difference. | 0:05:28 | 0:05:31
-Ready to watch some clips? -Yeah! | 0:05:31 | 0:05:33
OK. Our first story's about Russell. He sleeps on the streets. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:37
Have a look and see what you think. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:39
My name is Russell. | 0:05:39 | 0:05:41
I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:45
My mum left home and then my dad did too, | 0:05:45 | 0:05:47
so I came to Dhaka city to look for a new life. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:51
Things didn't turn out how I thought they would | 0:05:51 | 0:05:54
and now I live on the streets. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:56
I work as a litter picker, collecting rubbish to sell. | 0:05:56 | 0:05:58
This is his life. This is what he does every single day. | 0:05:58 | 0:06:01
If I don't work, I don't have any money to buy food. | 0:06:01 | 0:06:05
Sometimes, I cut myself on glass and broken bottles. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:08
It's really hard for him because he doesn't have any money | 0:06:08 | 0:06:11
and he can't take care of himself properly. | 0:06:11 | 0:06:14
It's like, really bad, because they don't have to just pick up litter, | 0:06:14 | 0:06:17
-they have got to pick up glass... -Pretty dangerous stuff. -Yeah. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:20
I usually sleep up on the roof, where nobody can see me, | 0:06:20 | 0:06:23
so I feel safe. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:25
We lie down on a sack, using it like a mat. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:29
I would really like to sleep with a pillow | 0:06:29 | 0:06:31
and a mattress made of cotton. | 0:06:31 | 0:06:33
All he wants is a pillow and a cotton mattress. | 0:06:33 | 0:06:37
And that's what most people in the world have. | 0:06:37 | 0:06:40
He's dreaming of something little whilst everybody else's dream | 0:06:40 | 0:06:43
is to have the fastest sports car in the world. | 0:06:43 | 0:06:46
But thanks to the money raised by Sport Relief, Russell is now | 0:06:48 | 0:06:50
able to sleep in a centre which is safe and comfortable. | 0:06:50 | 0:06:53
Going to the centre, it's peace. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
I just grab a pillow and put my head down and fall asleep. | 0:06:55 | 0:06:59
It's so comfortable. | 0:06:59 | 0:07:01
Even though they didn't have a good past, | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
Sport Relief will make it a good future. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:08
Thank you! | 0:07:08 | 0:07:10
We're now going to meet Champa. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:12
Champa has to collect litter so that she can eat. Here we go. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:15
My dad was a rickshaw puller. | 0:07:15 | 0:07:18
But when I was two years old, he died. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
Now we don't have much money. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:23
So I have to work to help my family survive. | 0:07:23 | 0:07:27
I work as a litter picker, with my little brother. | 0:07:27 | 0:07:31
She's got a lot on her shoulders for a ten-year-old, that's for sure. | 0:07:32 | 0:07:35
If I was like other kids, I would have more time to play | 0:07:35 | 0:07:39
and go to school. But unlike them, I can't afford it. | 0:07:39 | 0:07:43
It's not fair that she should have to be litter picking, | 0:07:43 | 0:07:46
when we can be here with our friends. | 0:07:46 | 0:07:48
I don't like working, and if I spent my time studying, | 0:07:48 | 0:07:52
I could do much better. | 0:07:52 | 0:07:53
If you were to change something about Champa's life, | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
what would you change? | 0:07:56 | 0:07:58
So she could be safe every day. So people don't hurt her. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:02
But there IS a place Champa can go | 0:08:03 | 0:08:06
where she can be just like any other child. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:09
This special centre is funded by Sport Relief. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:12
It allows her to get an education and learn to dance. | 0:08:12 | 0:08:15
They've given her, like, one wish that she wanted her whole life. | 0:08:17 | 0:08:23
Now, the centre has arranged for me | 0:08:23 | 0:08:25
to go to a proper school where I can really learn things. | 0:08:25 | 0:08:29
I love to read and study. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:31
And by doing this, one day I hope to go on to do something really good. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:36
It's good that they made Sport Relief, | 0:08:36 | 0:08:39
because they could have a better life and better future. | 0:08:39 | 0:08:42
-Thank you! -Thank you! | 0:08:42 | 0:08:44
So I think it's fair to say | 0:08:44 | 0:08:45
-it's really important we raise money for Sport Relief. Yes? -Yeah! | 0:08:45 | 0:08:48
Well, it's something you know all about at home | 0:08:48 | 0:08:51
because you've been designing your very own Sport Relief sweaty socks. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:54
I think it's only right, after what we've seen today, | 0:08:54 | 0:08:56
-that we get involved and make our own sweaty socks. -Yeah! -Let's do it! | 0:08:56 | 0:08:59
Glue! | 0:09:05 | 0:09:06 | |
-ALL: -Make your socks sweaty for Sport Relief! | 0:09:11 | 0:09:16
Now, all the voices you heard there in Bangladesh were actors. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:20
But it's so brilliant to know that people like Russell, even though | 0:09:20 | 0:09:23
he's sleeping on the streets, he's got somewhere really | 0:09:23 | 0:09:26
safe that he can go during the day. | 0:09:26 | 0:09:28
And that is all thank you to Sport Relief. | 0:09:28 | 0:09:30
Speaking of which, | 0:09:30 | 0:09:32
we have loved receiving all your brilliant sweaty socks this year. | 0:09:32 | 0:09:36
You've been letting us know what you're up to for | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
Sport Relief 2016 and it's all about getting involved and having a go. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:43
Thank you for sending those in. | 0:09:43 | 0:09:45
We've had them from all the way up here at the top of our sweaty | 0:09:45 | 0:09:49
map there, in Inverness, all the way down here to the Isle of Wight. | 0:09:49 | 0:09:53
So thank you to everyone who's got involved, | 0:09:53 | 0:09:55
and I can reveal we've had a whopping | 0:09:55 | 0:09:58
4,149 sweaty socks! | 0:09:58 | 0:10:02
I think that's brilliant! So I think we need to celebrate that. | 0:10:02 | 0:10:06
And here's how we're going to do it... | 0:10:06 | 0:10:09
Thousands of you have sent in your sweaty socks. These are just a few. | 0:10:09 | 0:10:13
There has been an unbelievable effort. | 0:10:13 | 0:10:16
To get across to you just what that looks like, I've had an idea... | 0:10:16 | 0:10:21
I get a bit worried when Radz has an idea. | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
But this could be SOCK-tacular! | 0:10:25 | 0:10:28
If he and the rest of the Blue Peter team can lay down your sweaty socks | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
around this 200 metre athletics track eight times, | 0:10:31 | 0:10:36
that would stretch a whole Sport Relief mile. | 0:10:36 | 0:10:38
I'm not going to tell anyone else this. | 0:10:38 | 0:10:41
But I'm not sure if we've got enough socks! | 0:10:41 | 0:10:43
And that... | 0:10:47 | 0:10:50
We're done! | 0:10:50 | 0:10:52
Would you look at that! | 0:10:53 | 0:10:55
A magnificent mile of your sweaty socks for Sport Relief. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:59
What an effort from you guys. Well done! | 0:10:59 | 0:11:03
Yes, well done to each and every single one of you who sent in | 0:11:03 | 0:11:08
a sweaty sock for Sport Relief. | 0:11:08 | 0:11:10
-Good luck with the fundraising as well! -That's right. | 0:11:10 | 0:11:12
Speaking of Sport Relief, if you just cannot get enough - we can't - | 0:11:12 | 0:11:16
you need to head online to the Blue Peter website, | 0:11:16 | 0:11:18
where you'll find a lovely game called Geo's Gym. | 0:11:18 | 0:11:21
It's our Sport Relief 2016 game. You can see Lawson having a go there. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:25
They were OK - not quite as good as Trevor and Lamar. | 0:11:25 | 0:11:29
-Look at them, top of the leaderboard! -Wow! | 0:11:29 | 0:11:31
Thousands of points! | 0:11:31 | 0:11:32
-Radzi, I think we're at the bottom. -I think we're stone-cold last. | 0:11:32 | 0:11:36
Why not check out Barney's game, | 0:11:36 | 0:11:38
where you have to guess which sport he is acting out. | 0:11:38 | 0:11:41
-Looks like he's just got a headache. -He's slapping his head and pointing. | 0:11:41 | 0:11:44
I have no idea. We would be bottom of that one. | 0:11:44 | 0:11:46
You may have watched in the last few weeks | 0:11:46 | 0:11:49
and you may have been loving my Wave Runner challenge. | 0:11:49 | 0:11:51
I know some of you have. Because look at this week's Big Badge Wall, | 0:11:51 | 0:11:55
covered in all of your fab Sport Relief posts. It is brilliant. | 0:11:55 | 0:11:59
Less sweaty than the socks. | 0:11:59 | 0:12:01
This has been sent in by Kaden, who's 7, from Cirencester. | 0:12:01 | 0:12:04
I am in my Wave Runner box thing. That's taken a loads of time | 0:12:04 | 0:12:08
to make. Thank you. I've even got glittery hair. That's great. Thanks. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:13
The creativity all of you have shown over Lindsey's Wave Runner challenge | 0:12:13 | 0:12:16
is off the charts, including George from Oxfordshire - feast your eyes | 0:12:16 | 0:12:19
upon his delicacy work here. Made from a water bottle and straws, | 0:12:19 | 0:12:24
to make paddles. George, you're a genius! | 0:12:24 | 0:12:26
He thinks it rained on the challenge. | 0:12:26 | 0:12:28
I'm glad it didn't. That was the one bit of bad weather we didn't have. | 0:12:28 | 0:12:31
This one is brilliant. | 0:12:31 | 0:12:33
It's from Keira, who's 10, from Tamworth. | 0:12:33 | 0:12:35
I'm there with my hands in the air, loving my Wave Runner challenge. | 0:12:35 | 0:12:39
And the sun has even got sunglasses on. Brilliant, thank you. | 0:12:39 | 0:12:42
And let's take a look at Susanna from Bishop Stortford, | 0:12:42 | 0:12:45
who's made this magnificent picture of Lindsey | 0:12:45 | 0:12:48
who's smiling away there, covered in bubble packaging. | 0:12:48 | 0:12:51
There she is inside her zorb. Well done, Susanna. | 0:12:51 | 0:12:54
I just want to take a minute to say thank you for all of this post. | 0:12:54 | 0:12:57
It does mean the world to me. | 0:12:57 | 0:12:59
It just shows how much YOU care about my challenge as well. | 0:12:59 | 0:13:02
-So thank you very much. -Now, we know that Lindsey is the Wave Runner. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:05
But are YOU the Wave Runner? | 0:13:05 | 0:13:07
Find out by taking our quiz | 0:13:07 | 0:13:09
on the Blue Peter website. | 0:13:09 | 0:13:11
Check it out, and figure out if you've got what it takes! | 0:13:11 | 0:13:15
We had a go to see if we could be mini Wave Runners the other day. | 0:13:15 | 0:13:18
That is on the website - Radzi and I playing a fun game. You won it, | 0:13:18 | 0:13:22
I know you did. Check it out on the website. It's very good fun. | 0:13:22 | 0:13:25
And you can see me getting all my good luck messages before | 0:13:25 | 0:13:29
the Wave Runner challenge. | 0:13:29 | 0:13:31
-It's all Wave Runner today! -Rightfully so. | 0:13:31 | 0:13:33
I think we'd better do it... | 0:13:33 | 0:13:35
It's time for the final part of my epic Sport Relief challenge. | 0:13:35 | 0:13:40
Six months ago, | 0:13:44 | 0:13:46
I began my Sport Relief challenge to run across the Irish Sea. | 0:13:46 | 0:13:51
Working with a team of elite engineers, | 0:13:51 | 0:13:53
we created a unique machine. | 0:13:53 | 0:13:56
And I had to get fitter than I've ever been before. | 0:13:56 | 0:13:59
(I feel sick!) | 0:13:59 | 0:14:01
It's time to take on the sea. | 0:14:02 | 0:14:05
Can I become...the Wave Runner? | 0:14:05 | 0:14:08
So I am finally here in Donaghadee, in Northern Ireland. | 0:14:10 | 0:14:14
Pretty nervous - tomorrow is the biggest challenge of my life. | 0:14:14 | 0:14:17
There's loads still left to do, got to get the machine up, | 0:14:17 | 0:14:19
but I guess all that's left to say is, "Let's do this." | 0:14:19 | 0:14:23
As our engineers start preparations, | 0:14:23 | 0:14:26
I meet up with my mentor, Professor Greg Whyte. | 0:14:26 | 0:14:29
-So how you feeling, mate? -Really, really scared. | 0:14:31 | 0:14:34
It sounds obvious but I just feel terrified. | 0:14:34 | 0:14:37
What you've got to do now is get that mental self ready. | 0:14:37 | 0:14:40
-I've hit walls before with Blue Peter challenges. -Yeah. | 0:14:40 | 0:14:43
But all I remember is that feeling of, "I cannot go on." | 0:14:43 | 0:14:47
What you want to do is draw on that experience. | 0:14:47 | 0:14:49
The fact is you got to that point in the Patrouille des Glaciers, | 0:14:49 | 0:14:52
when you were doing that race, and you thought, "I cannot go on" | 0:14:52 | 0:14:55
and yet you did. In the marathon, when you think, "I can't go on, | 0:14:55 | 0:14:58
"I can't keep going" - but you DID. | 0:14:58 | 0:15:01
You know that if you keep pushing, you will be able to make it. | 0:15:01 | 0:15:03
Agh! I want YOU to do it, Greg. | 0:15:03 | 0:15:05
I'll be watching! | 0:15:05 | 0:15:07
The team gathers to finalise tomorrow's route across the sea. | 0:15:09 | 0:15:13
I can't travel in a straight line, so starting in Donaghadee, | 0:15:13 | 0:15:17
I'll head southeast to the centre of the Channel. | 0:15:17 | 0:15:20
Then, when the tide turns, I'll travel northeast | 0:15:20 | 0:15:23
towards Portpatrick. It's an estimated 28 miles. | 0:15:23 | 0:15:28
So, it's time for bed. | 0:15:28 | 0:15:29
Tomorrow is the biggest day of my life. | 0:15:29 | 0:15:33
This is it. | 0:15:36 | 0:15:37
My Wave Runner team have done THEIR job, | 0:15:37 | 0:15:39
and now it's time for me to do MINE. | 0:15:39 | 0:15:42
Welcome to my home for this challenge. | 0:15:48 | 0:15:51
Finally, it's time to get started. | 0:15:51 | 0:15:54
Here we go... | 0:15:54 | 0:15:55
Despite the fact it's dark, conditions are perfect. | 0:15:58 | 0:16:02
There's not a breath of wind in the air | 0:16:02 | 0:16:04
and I can feel myself really pushing through the water. | 0:16:04 | 0:16:07
-How you feeling? -Yeah, I'm OK. I'm calm. | 0:16:07 | 0:16:11
Brilliant, Lindsey! Fantastic! | 0:16:11 | 0:16:14
I'm feeling really strong. | 0:16:14 | 0:16:16
She is absolutely flying. | 0:16:16 | 0:16:18
I manage to cover 2.5 miles in my first hour. | 0:16:18 | 0:16:22
As the sun rises, the world wakes up to my Wave Runner challenge. | 0:16:22 | 0:16:26
Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell is planning to make | 0:16:26 | 0:16:29
the journey in nothing more than an inflatable ball. | 0:16:29 | 0:16:31
She's zorbing across the Irish Channel! | 0:16:31 | 0:16:33
Follow Lindsey's progress at bbc.co.uk... | 0:16:33 | 0:16:35
Thank you, and pass on our best wishes to Lindsey. | 0:16:35 | 0:16:38
For the next hour, I manage to ride the tide | 0:16:41 | 0:16:44
and force myself out into the Irish Sea. I have now covered four miles | 0:16:44 | 0:16:48
and I'm starting to find my rhythm. | 0:16:48 | 0:16:51
Oh! | 0:16:51 | 0:16:52 | |
And all that hard work is already paying off, | 0:16:54 | 0:16:56
as I'm treated to the most stunning sunrise I've ever seen. | 0:16:56 | 0:17:00
This is beautiful! | 0:17:04 | 0:17:06
But it doesn't last long. I've still got a lot of work to do. | 0:17:07 | 0:17:11
Every hour I stop to take on fuel, | 0:17:13 | 0:17:16
which also gives Greg a chance to check on my health. | 0:17:16 | 0:17:19
Course is good, pace is good. | 0:17:19 | 0:17:20
It's just having to work that little bit harder to keep it, | 0:17:20 | 0:17:23
that's the difference, mate. | 0:17:23 | 0:17:25
But everything that goes in has to come out. | 0:17:25 | 0:17:28
So I've done a wee in my wet suit. | 0:17:28 | 0:17:31
OK. Too much information. | 0:17:31 | 0:17:34
After four hours, I've gone eight miles. But we have a problem... | 0:17:34 | 0:17:38
It feels like I'm in a balloon that's gone down a little bit. | 0:17:41 | 0:17:45
What it looks like is actually the zorb's deflating. | 0:17:45 | 0:17:48
If the ball keeps losing air | 0:17:48 | 0:17:50
it could put the whole challenge at risk. | 0:17:50 | 0:17:53
Our only option is to inflate the ball at sea. | 0:17:53 | 0:17:56
That's it! Better! | 0:17:56 | 0:17:59
Thankfully, it works. | 0:17:59 | 0:18:00
I'm now in my fifth hour. It's by far the longest time | 0:18:03 | 0:18:07
I've ever been in this ball, and I'm really starting to ache. | 0:18:07 | 0:18:10
But I keep remembering why I'm doing this. It's all for Sport Relief. | 0:18:10 | 0:18:14
Money that's raised by Sport Relief helps fund charities like Jigsaw. | 0:18:15 | 0:18:20
They run loads of sports sessions, | 0:18:20 | 0:18:22
especially for people with disabilities... | 0:18:22 | 0:18:25
Oh! | 0:18:25 | 0:18:26 | |
..to help them get active and make friends. | 0:18:26 | 0:18:29
Coming here is really important because it gives me | 0:18:29 | 0:18:32
a chance to get out with people of my own age. | 0:18:32 | 0:18:35
The staff here at Jigsaw provide a really safe | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
and a fun environment for all these swimmers. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:42
It's really good fun. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:43
It makes us very healthy and fit. | 0:18:43 | 0:18:45
This is just one of the ways | 0:18:45 | 0:18:48
the money you raise can make a real difference to people's lives. | 0:18:48 | 0:18:52
So do your bit and get involved, with Sport Relief. | 0:18:52 | 0:18:55
Well, she's 6.5 hours in, so about 13 miles done. | 0:18:57 | 0:19:02
24,000 uphill steps. | 0:19:02 | 0:19:05
This is where she starts to question whether she can make it or not. | 0:19:05 | 0:19:08
So, she's done a lot, but she's got an awful long way to go. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:12
The conditions have changed since this morning. | 0:19:12 | 0:19:15
The wind and waves are much stronger | 0:19:15 | 0:19:18
and I'm struggling to keep my balance... | 0:19:18 | 0:19:21
It's just pushing me over! | 0:19:21 | 0:19:23
It's pushing me to the left. | 0:19:23 | 0:19:25
This is so tough. But I've got to keep trying. | 0:19:27 | 0:19:31
15 miles in, and I've reached a critical moment in my journey. | 0:19:34 | 0:19:39
The tide is turning and should start pushing me | 0:19:39 | 0:19:42
towards my destination of Portpatrick. | 0:19:42 | 0:19:44
But over the next hour, the wind increases | 0:19:45 | 0:19:48
and the waves just get higher. | 0:19:48 | 0:19:50
It's taking all my strength to stay upright. | 0:19:50 | 0:19:54
Agh! | 0:19:56 | 0:19:58 | |
I'm so frustrated. | 0:19:58 | 0:19:59
I know I have to beat these conditions to stay on track. | 0:19:59 | 0:20:02
It is too slippy! | 0:20:02 | 0:20:05
After 16 miles, | 0:20:05 | 0:20:07
Greg calls me in for a crisis talk. | 0:20:07 | 0:20:09
Your pace has been amazing from start to this point. | 0:20:09 | 0:20:12
But the problem is that those tides are just really quick today. | 0:20:12 | 0:20:16
And with the combination of that and the wind, | 0:20:16 | 0:20:19
it's just pushing you in the wrong direction. | 0:20:19 | 0:20:21
This is tough. Really, really tough. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:24
-OK? -Are just not going anywhere? | 0:20:24 | 0:20:26
No, we are, but we're going in the wrong direction. | 0:20:26 | 0:20:29
We're not going where we want to go. OK? | 0:20:29 | 0:20:30
This has got nothing to do with you. | 0:20:30 | 0:20:32
There's not many people as brave as you, let me tell you that. | 0:20:33 | 0:20:37
I'm running out of time. But I'm determined to get back on course. | 0:20:40 | 0:20:44
# I never thought I needed help before... # | 0:20:46 | 0:20:50
Pushing me around. | 0:20:50 | 0:20:52
The extra effort is agony. | 0:20:52 | 0:20:55
# Thought that I could get by by myself... # | 0:20:55 | 0:20:58
And the waves are impossible. | 0:20:58 | 0:21:00
# Now I know I just can't take it any more... # | 0:21:01 | 0:21:06
I manage one more mile. | 0:21:06 | 0:21:08
# And with a humble heart... # | 0:21:08 | 0:21:09
Then I hear the words I'm dreading. | 0:21:09 | 0:21:12
Greg tells me to stop. | 0:21:14 | 0:21:16
Come on, let's get you out. Let's get you out of there. | 0:21:18 | 0:21:21
Are you sure we can't just keep trying? | 0:21:21 | 0:21:23
Mate, the tide simply won't let you get to shore. That's the problem. | 0:21:23 | 0:21:26
It fundamentally becomes too dangerous to be out there. | 0:21:26 | 0:21:30
I can't believe it's over. | 0:21:30 | 0:21:32
I've been at sea for nine hours, but I have to accept | 0:21:32 | 0:21:35
that I can't make it to Scotland against the tide. | 0:21:35 | 0:21:38
I'm devastated. | 0:21:38 | 0:21:41
I did manage to walk 17 miles across the Irish Sea. | 0:21:42 | 0:21:46
But it just wasn't enough. | 0:21:46 | 0:21:49
As we head into Portpatrick, I'm feeling gutted. | 0:21:50 | 0:21:54
But then everything changes when I see a crowd. | 0:21:54 | 0:21:57
CROWD CHEERS | 0:21:57 | 0:21:58
-ALL: -Well done, Lindsey! | 0:21:58 | 0:22:01
The town has come to show their support and cheer me in. | 0:22:01 | 0:22:05
And right at the front is my dad. | 0:22:05 | 0:22:07
THEY CLAP AND CHEER | 0:22:07 | 0:22:10
Well done, you. So proud of you. | 0:22:10 | 0:22:12
This means the world to me. | 0:22:12 | 0:22:15
Thank you so much for coming! Thank you, thank you, thank you. | 0:22:17 | 0:22:20
This has been the toughest challenge of my life. | 0:22:20 | 0:22:23
Agh! | 0:22:23 | 0:22:24 | |
And in the end, although I didn't quite make it, | 0:22:24 | 0:22:27
I'm so proud that I never, ever gave up. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:32
I hope it's inspired you to get involved for Sport Relief, and most | 0:22:32 | 0:22:36
importantly, I hope it's shown you it's just about having a go. | 0:22:36 | 0:22:39
It doesn't matter how you get to the finish line, just have a go. | 0:22:39 | 0:22:43
I need a hot bath! | 0:22:43 | 0:22:44
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 0:22:49 | 0:22:51
-Aw! -Linz...? -Yeah? | 0:22:51 | 0:22:53
I'm going to start things off by saying | 0:22:53 | 0:22:55
the thing I'm most proud of, Blue Peter, is what it stands for. | 0:22:55 | 0:22:58
So it stands for the badge. | 0:22:58 | 0:23:00
But another thing it stands for are the values. | 0:23:00 | 0:23:02
So perseverance, trying your best, determination. | 0:23:02 | 0:23:04
And what you've done there will leave every single viewer | 0:23:04 | 0:23:07
watching at home under no illusions or any doubt whatsoever | 0:23:07 | 0:23:10
-that you personify Blue Peter. -Yeah. | 0:23:10 | 0:23:13
And what you're trying to do is to inspire people | 0:23:13 | 0:23:16
to give something a go for Sport Relief. You gave something a go. | 0:23:16 | 0:23:19
And we are so, so proud of you. Can we please hear it | 0:23:19 | 0:23:21
for Lindsey Russell? CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 0:23:21 | 0:23:24
Thank you. I don't know if we've got time | 0:23:24 | 0:23:26
but I just want to quickly say that it is all about giving it a go | 0:23:26 | 0:23:29
and to anyone who tries something and thinks, | 0:23:29 | 0:23:31
"I can't make it to the finish line," it doesn't matter. | 0:23:31 | 0:23:34
Just get to the start line, and you'll be really proud of yourself. | 0:23:34 | 0:23:37
As we are proud of you, Lindsey. We really are. And as a friend, | 0:23:37 | 0:23:40
not just as a presenter, as your friend, I'm really proud of you. | 0:23:40 | 0:23:42
I'm crying! Anyway, on this track behind me... | 0:23:42 | 0:23:45
Everyone's crying in the gallery as well! It's not helping. | 0:23:45 | 0:23:48
This track behind me has been the home of so many incredible | 0:23:48 | 0:23:50
sporting moments. | 0:23:50 | 0:23:52
Of course, Sir Chris Hoy got his gold medal here. | 0:23:52 | 0:23:54
Victoria Pendleton as well, and Dame Sarah Storey. | 0:23:54 | 0:23:57
Some true legends have all won gold here. | 0:23:57 | 0:24:00
As well as, you may remember a couple of weeks ago, | 0:24:00 | 0:24:03
Laura Trott was right here to win not one but two golds. | 0:24:03 | 0:24:07
She's an amazing, amazing woman. | 0:24:07 | 0:24:09
So now, I'm going to chat to another sporting legend. | 0:24:09 | 0:24:13
I'm just going to get rid of my tears and stop being emotional. | 0:24:13 | 0:24:16
Over here is CBBC's very own Mark Wright! | 0:24:16 | 0:24:19
-How you doing, Lindsey? -Are you good? I was before that VT, yeah. | 0:24:19 | 0:24:22
I'm doing all right. How are YOU feeling? | 0:24:22 | 0:24:25
Because in just a few hours, you've got to get that bike | 0:24:25 | 0:24:27
onto that track. | 0:24:27 | 0:24:28
-Yeah. Firstly I'm feeling extremely nervous... -Understandable. | 0:24:28 | 0:24:32
It's a nerve-racking thing, and I'm quite competitive as well | 0:24:32 | 0:24:35
-so I want to do well. -I was going to ask, are you competitive? | 0:24:35 | 0:24:38
Because you're in the elimination race - | 0:24:38 | 0:24:40
for those at home who don't know what that means, talk us through it. | 0:24:40 | 0:24:42
So basically it's six competitors, | 0:24:42 | 0:24:46
eight laps - every other lap, | 0:24:46 | 0:24:48
whoever crosses the line last is out. | 0:24:48 | 0:24:51
So basically it's a sprint from the start because | 0:24:51 | 0:24:53
after two laps they start eliminating people. | 0:24:53 | 0:24:56
-You don't want to be that first one out. -You don't. | 0:24:56 | 0:24:58
You can't be that first one, Mark. Do CBBC proud! | 0:24:58 | 0:25:01
And normally I'm quite confident when it comes to sports, | 0:25:01 | 0:25:04
but this one, I've seen the other guys and the competition is stiff. | 0:25:04 | 0:25:07
It's also a really hard sport. Getting on that velodrome - | 0:25:07 | 0:25:09
-I know it doesn't look very steep but it really is, isn't it? -Yeah. | 0:25:09 | 0:25:12
Who's on your team? | 0:25:12 | 0:25:14
So my team is the gorgeous Harry Judd, | 0:25:14 | 0:25:17
and our team captain is Freddie Flintoff, | 0:25:17 | 0:25:19
who actually won it last year | 0:25:19 | 0:25:21
so we've got an advantage there. | 0:25:21 | 0:25:23
The other team's Hugh Dennis, Olympian Steve Redgrave... | 0:25:23 | 0:25:27
Or should I say SIR Steve Redgrave, | 0:25:27 | 0:25:29
and comedian Hugh Dennis. | 0:25:29 | 0:25:31
-Wow. They're quite strong teams. -Yeah, I know. | 0:25:31 | 0:25:34
I can see why you're nervous now. | 0:25:34 | 0:25:35
No disrespect to someone like Steve, I thought I had, | 0:25:35 | 0:25:38
like, the age advantage on him being a few years younger | 0:25:38 | 0:25:41
but when I saw him out on that track, every time | 0:25:41 | 0:25:43
we were going to sprint during practice, he was faster every time. | 0:25:43 | 0:25:48
The man has got powerful legs! | 0:25:48 | 0:25:49
Well, listen, Mark, your legs are looking powerful too. | 0:25:49 | 0:25:52
-I think you're going to be all right. -Thank you. | 0:25:52 | 0:25:54
I'm going to send you on your bike. Give me your mic. Off you go. | 0:25:54 | 0:25:57
-Go and train. -See you later. -Do it for CBBC! See you later. | 0:25:57 | 0:25:59
Remember, you can watch Clash of the Titans | 0:25:59 | 0:26:03
tomorrow, BBC One, at 7:00pm. So make sure you're watching. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:06
And if you want to get involved this year for Sport Relief 2016, | 0:26:06 | 0:26:09
grab a grown-up and get down to the Sport Relief Games on Sunday. | 0:26:09 | 0:26:13
-Which we're going to, aren't we, Radz? -We are indeed. -Bye, Mark! | 0:26:13 | 0:26:18
He's out of here. On yer bike! | 0:26:18 | 0:26:20
He's ON his bike, you see, it's literal! | 0:26:20 | 0:26:22
At the start of the show we asked what you are doing for this year's | 0:26:22 | 0:26:26
Sport Relief tomorrow. Your comments have come flooding in. | 0:26:26 | 0:26:29
-Will you kick things off? -I will. | 0:26:29 | 0:26:32
Lime Quiet Snail - good name - says, | 0:26:32 | 0:26:34
"I'm going to attempt to run around "my garden 50 times in 40 minutes." | 0:26:34 | 0:26:39
-Yes! -I hope it's a small-ish garden, not like this velodrome. | 0:26:39 | 0:26:43
-Otherwise you're in trouble. -You'll be very tight. | 0:26:43 | 0:26:45
Or you're just really, really fit. | 0:26:45 | 0:26:47

Indy Happy Iguana says, "My brother and I and all pupils at my school | 0:27:04 | 0:27:08
"are doing a sponsored all-day football match tomorrow." | 0:27:08 | 0:27:11
-Just like Alan Shearer. -You would love that. -I would. | 0:27:11 | 0:27:14
Blue/Green Curly Wallaby says, | 0:27:14 | 0:27:16

"that's 20 miles." You guys are awesome! | 0:27:26 | 0:27:28
What is also awesome is what's coming up on next week's show. | 0:27:28 | 0:27:31
Make sure you do not miss it | 0:27:31 | 0:27:33
because it's a Lindsey Russell Wave Runner extravaganza. | 0:27:33 | 0:27:36
That's right, it's a half-hour special. | 0:27:36 | 0:27:38
You're going to see my whole challenge from the very start | 0:27:38 | 0:27:40
of building that three-metre ball, all the way to the end, | 0:27:40 | 0:27:43
