Hello! We are here, so the show can begin.

0:00:030:00:06

Oh, no, Radz, it can't. No-one's turned up.

0:00:060:00:08

This is so unprofessional.

0:00:080:00:10

-And... What's that?

-Do you know what?

0:00:100:00:13

This is your sweaty socks you've been sending in for Sport Relief!

0:00:130:00:16

-Let's see where it goes.

-Let's go!

-Come on, I'm excited!

0:00:160:00:19

-CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

-Yay!

-Hello!

0:00:340:00:37

Your sweaty socks led us all the way here to the velodrome at

0:00:370:00:41

the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

0:00:410:00:42

for our Blue Peter Sport Relief Spectacular!

0:00:420:00:45

So, do not move a muscle because we will be bringing you all

0:00:470:00:51

the behind-the-scenes sporty goodness your heart desires.

0:00:510:00:53

-Sporty goodness?

-Yes!

-I like that.

0:00:530:00:55

Coming up, CBBC's very own Mark Wright is going to be

0:00:550:00:58

testing out the velodrome. There he is! Hello, Mark.

0:00:580:01:01

And telling us all about Clash of the Titans for Sport Relief

0:01:010:01:04

tomorrow night.

0:01:040:01:06

We'll also be making something rather special with

0:01:060:01:08

all of your sweaty socks. I can't tell you.

0:01:080:01:11

-That's all you're getting.

-There they are.

0:01:110:01:13

And it's exciting, you'll see the final part of my epic

0:01:130:01:15

Sport Relief Wave Runner challenge.

0:01:150:01:17

It's going to get hashtag totes emosh!

0:01:170:01:20

And we want to hear from you, of course, as ever.

0:01:200:01:23

Head online and let us know

0:01:230:01:24

what you are doing this year for Sport Relief 2016.

0:01:240:01:28

It's all about getting involved. So, we want to hear from you.

0:01:280:01:30

Get involved. Get online!

0:01:300:01:32

But before all of that,

0:01:320:01:34

to tell us more about Sport Relief 2016 is BBC sports reporter

0:01:340:01:37

-Ore Oduba. Welcome to Blue Peter!

-Great to be here!

0:01:370:01:42

-APPLAUSE

-Thank you!

0:01:420:01:44

Stop, too much. Carry on. No, stop.

0:01:440:01:47

I'm excited about Sport Relief - tell us what we've got in store.

0:01:470:01:50

Oh, my goodness! What a weekend.

0:01:500:01:52

Always the biggest weekend on the calendar for me.

0:01:520:01:55

I'll start backwards, if I may, Radzi.

0:01:550:01:56

Because on the Sunday, we've got the Sport Relief Games.

0:01:560:02:00

And we're asking kids and everyone around the country

0:02:000:02:02

to do themselves proud.

0:02:020:02:04

We're asking them to swim, cycle, walk or run.

0:02:040:02:06

Anything they can do, do themselves proud.

0:02:060:02:09

On Sunday in the Sport Relief Games

0:02:090:02:11

there are thousands of events all over the country, quite literally.

0:02:110:02:14

We're asking people to grab a grown-up,

0:02:140:02:16

get themselves down there on Sunday.

0:02:160:02:17

Before that, Friday, so tomorrow night, is the night of TV.

0:02:170:02:21

Always one of the best nights of telly.

0:02:210:02:23

So it's live here in the Queen Elizabeth Park,

0:02:230:02:25

from seven o'clock on BBC One.

0:02:250:02:28

And we've roped in so many celebrities to do sketches and

0:02:280:02:32

-performances. The likes of footballer Rio Ferdinand...

-Legend.

0:02:320:02:35

..there's going to be Louis Smith, gymnast, you know him very well.

0:02:350:02:38

-Yes.

-Who else? Boxer David Haye.

0:02:380:02:41

So, everybody getting involved for what is always

0:02:410:02:44

-an epic evening.

-I cannot wait.

0:02:440:02:45

And I also can't wait for Clash of the Titans.

0:02:450:02:47

Happening - in fact, they are setting up as we speak.

0:02:470:02:50

Yes, they are doing it right now.

0:02:500:02:51

Clash of the Titans 2016 is back for another year.

0:02:510:02:53

-You're co-hosting!

-Thank you, mate. Thank you for making that point.

0:02:530:02:57

I'll be there. Myself and Dan Walker will be in the velodrome here

0:02:570:03:01

and also the London Aquatics Centre as well. Bringing it together.

0:03:010:03:04

We have two teams, led by sporting royalty. You'll know their names.

0:03:040:03:08

-OK.

-Freddie Flintoff, can we get a whoop, anyone?

-Woo!

0:03:080:03:11

-Sir Steve Redgrave.

-Woo!

-Oh, yeah, he won some medals once upon a time.

0:03:110:03:16

So those two are leading teams of celebrities and sporting stars

0:03:160:03:20

in some huge events. So, if anyone watched Clash of the Titans 2014...

0:03:200:03:24

-Absolutely.

-..we saw rhythmic gymnastics, that was the big one,

0:03:240:03:27

-track cycling...

-Yes.

0:03:270:03:29

-We have upped the ante for 2016.

-OK.

-We've got WRESTLING!

-Do we really?

0:03:290:03:33

We've got wrestling, people. So that's happening,

0:03:330:03:36

-that's got you excited.

-It has.

0:03:360:03:37

Veins pumped up and everything, mate.

0:03:370:03:39

We've also got a team triathlon.

0:03:390:03:41

So to finish the whole event, we've got athletes running

0:03:410:03:45

right around the Olympic site, finishing in the Aquatics Centre.

0:03:450:03:48

It will be tense, competitive, it will be awesome.

0:03:480:03:50

Let's talk about YOUR Sport Relief challenge,

0:03:500:03:52

-which was with The One Show.

-Do we have to?

-We do!

0:03:520:03:55

-I've just about got over that one, Radz!

-How was it? What was it?

0:03:550:03:58

Well, it was quite epic.

0:03:580:03:59

It was called the Hell On High Seas challenge.

0:03:590:04:01

Myself and a bunch of celebrities sailed from Belfast round to London,

0:04:010:04:06

and while sailing on a yacht might see like quite an easy adventure,

0:04:060:04:10

-it was anything but.

-OK.

0:04:100:04:13

It was a racing yacht that sailed all around the world, actually.

0:04:130:04:16

We got hold of it for five days.

0:04:160:04:18

Basically the boat goes at a 45-degree angle, like that.

0:04:180:04:21

-So we were having to exist for five days like that.

-Seasickness?

0:04:210:04:25

I may have done a sick...

0:04:250:04:27

I may have done three sicks, Radzi.

0:04:270:04:30

It was really, really hard.

0:04:300:04:32

Yeah, because this yacht is not built for comfort.

0:04:320:04:35

So it's not a cruise liner, this one. There is nothing.

0:04:350:04:38

It's stripped back, it's just for racing, just for going fast.

0:04:380:04:40

And, yeah, there's no comfort at all.

0:04:400:04:43

But even just trying to put anything on, you're doing it like this...

0:04:430:04:46

-Absolutely.

-So, it was really hard and intense.

0:04:460:04:49

-But all for a fantastic cause, Sport Relief?

-Completely.

0:04:490:04:51

We raised a load of money, which we're so proud of

0:04:510:04:54

and all for Sport Relief, all for so many people that

0:04:540:04:58

deserve it and need the money around the UK and round the world as well.

0:04:580:05:01

That's what we all do Sport Relief for. That's what this is all about.

0:05:010:05:04

Getting people out there, getting involved...

0:05:040:05:06

Couldn't say it better myself.

0:05:060:05:08

Also, raising huge amounts of cash for the people that need it.

0:05:080:05:11

Talking about the important work Sport Relief does,

0:05:110:05:13

here is just some of it, and Barney found out how.

0:05:130:05:16

This year Sport Relief has made some special films in Bangladesh,

0:05:190:05:22

to show YOU how they're changing lives.

0:05:220:05:25

Barney took them into one school to watch and find out how the money

0:05:250:05:28

you raise can make a difference.

0:05:280:05:31

-Ready to watch some clips?

-Yeah!

0:05:310:05:33

OK. Our first story's about Russell. He sleeps on the streets.

0:05:330:05:37

Have a look and see what you think.

0:05:370:05:39

My name is Russell.

0:05:390:05:41

I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

0:05:410:05:45

My mum left home and then my dad did too,

0:05:450:05:47

so I came to Dhaka city to look for a new life.

0:05:470:05:51

Things didn't turn out how I thought they would

0:05:510:05:54

and now I live on the streets.

0:05:540:05:56

I work as a litter picker, collecting rubbish to sell.

0:05:560:05:58

This is his life. This is what he does every single day.

0:05:580:06:01

If I don't work, I don't have any money to buy food.

0:06:010:06:05

Sometimes, I cut myself on glass and broken bottles.

0:06:050:06:08

It's really hard for him because he doesn't have any money

0:06:080:06:11

and he can't take care of himself properly.

0:06:110:06:14

It's like, really bad, because they don't have to just pick up litter,

0:06:140:06:17

-they have got to pick up glass...

-Pretty dangerous stuff.

-Yeah.

0:06:170:06:20

I usually sleep up on the roof, where nobody can see me,

0:06:200:06:23

so I feel safe.

0:06:230:06:25

We lie down on a sack, using it like a mat.

0:06:250:06:29

I would really like to sleep with a pillow

0:06:290:06:31

and a mattress made of cotton.

0:06:310:06:33

All he wants is a pillow and a cotton mattress.

0:06:330:06:37

And that's what most people in the world have.

0:06:370:06:40

He's dreaming of something little whilst everybody else's dream

0:06:400:06:43

is to have the fastest sports car in the world.

0:06:430:06:46

But thanks to the money raised by Sport Relief, Russell is now

0:06:480:06:50

able to sleep in a centre which is safe and comfortable.

0:06:500:06:53

Going to the centre, it's peace.

0:06:530:06:55

I just grab a pillow and put my head down and fall asleep.

0:06:550:06:59

It's so comfortable.

0:06:590:07:01

Even though they didn't have a good past,

0:07:010:07:04

Sport Relief will make it a good future.

0:07:040:07:08

Thank you!

0:07:080:07:10

We're now going to meet Champa.

0:07:100:07:12

Champa has to collect litter so that she can eat. Here we go.

0:07:120:07:15

My dad was a rickshaw puller.

0:07:150:07:18

But when I was two years old, he died.

0:07:180:07:21

Now we don't have much money.

0:07:210:07:23

So I have to work to help my family survive.

0:07:230:07:27

I work as a litter picker, with my little brother.

0:07:270:07:31

She's got a lot on her shoulders for a ten-year-old, that's for sure.

0:07:320:07:35

If I was like other kids, I would have more time to play

0:07:350:07:39

and go to school. But unlike them, I can't afford it.

0:07:390:07:43

It's not fair that she should have to be litter picking,

0:07:430:07:46

when we can be here with our friends.

0:07:460:07:48

I don't like working, and if I spent my time studying,

0:07:480:07:52

I could do much better.

0:07:520:07:53

If you were to change something about Champa's life,

0:07:530:07:56

what would you change?

0:07:560:07:58

So she could be safe every day. So people don't hurt her.

0:07:580:08:02

But there IS a place Champa can go

0:08:030:08:06

where she can be just like any other child.

0:08:060:08:09

This special centre is funded by Sport Relief.

0:08:090:08:12

It allows her to get an education and learn to dance.

0:08:120:08:15

They've given her, like, one wish that she wanted her whole life.

0:08:170:08:23

Now, the centre has arranged for me

0:08:230:08:25

to go to a proper school where I can really learn things.

0:08:250:08:29

I love to read and study.

0:08:290:08:31

And by doing this, one day I hope to go on to do something really good.

0:08:310:08:36

It's good that they made Sport Relief,

0:08:360:08:39

because they could have a better life and better future.

0:08:390:08:42

-Thank you!

-Thank you!

0:08:420:08:44

So I think it's fair to say

0:08:440:08:45

-it's really important we raise money for Sport Relief. Yes?

-Yeah!

0:08:450:08:48

Well, it's something you know all about at home

0:08:480:08:51

because you've been designing your very own Sport Relief sweaty socks.

0:08:510:08:54

I think it's only right, after what we've seen today,

0:08:540:08:56

-that we get involved and make our own sweaty socks.

-Yeah!

-Let's do it!

0:08:560:08:59

Glue!

0:09:050:09:06

-ALL:

-Make your socks sweaty for Sport Relief!

0:09:110:09:16

Now, all the voices you heard there in Bangladesh were actors.

0:09:170:09:20

But it's so brilliant to know that people like Russell, even though

0:09:200:09:23

he's sleeping on the streets, he's got somewhere really

0:09:230:09:26

safe that he can go during the day.

0:09:260:09:28

And that is all thank you to Sport Relief.

0:09:280:09:30

Speaking of which,

0:09:300:09:32

we have loved receiving all your brilliant sweaty socks this year.

0:09:320:09:36

You've been letting us know what you're up to for

0:09:360:09:39

Sport Relief 2016 and it's all about getting involved and having a go.

0:09:390:09:43

Thank you for sending those in.

0:09:430:09:45

We've had them from all the way up here at the top of our sweaty

0:09:450:09:49

map there, in Inverness, all the way down here to the Isle of Wight.

0:09:490:09:53

So thank you to everyone who's got involved,

0:09:530:09:55

and I can reveal we've had a whopping

0:09:550:09:58

4,149 sweaty socks!

0:09:580:10:02

I think that's brilliant! So I think we need to celebrate that.

0:10:020:10:06

And here's how we're going to do it...

0:10:060:10:09

Thousands of you have sent in your sweaty socks. These are just a few.

0:10:090:10:13

There has been an unbelievable effort.

0:10:130:10:16

To get across to you just what that looks like, I've had an idea...

0:10:160:10:21

I get a bit worried when Radz has an idea.

0:10:210:10:25

But this could be SOCK-tacular!

0:10:250:10:28

If he and the rest of the Blue Peter team can lay down your sweaty socks

0:10:280:10:31

around this 200 metre athletics track eight times,

0:10:310:10:36

that would stretch a whole Sport Relief mile.

0:10:360:10:38

I'm not going to tell anyone else this.

0:10:380:10:41

But I'm not sure if we've got enough socks!

0:10:410:10:43

And that...

0:10:470:10:50

We're done!

0:10:500:10:52

Would you look at that!

0:10:530:10:55

A magnificent mile of your sweaty socks for Sport Relief.

0:10:550:10:59

What an effort from you guys. Well done!

0:10:590:11:03

Yes, well done to each and every single one of you who sent in

0:11:030:11:08

a sweaty sock for Sport Relief.

0:11:080:11:10

-Good luck with the fundraising as well!

-That's right.

0:11:100:11:12

Speaking of Sport Relief, if you just cannot get enough - we can't -

0:11:120:11:16

you need to head online to the Blue Peter website,

0:11:160:11:18

where you'll find a lovely game called Geo's Gym.

0:11:180:11:21

It's our Sport Relief 2016 game. You can see Lawson having a go there.

0:11:210:11:25

They were OK - not quite as good as Trevor and Lamar.

0:11:250:11:29

-Look at them, top of the leaderboard!

-Wow!

0:11:290:11:31

Thousands of points!

0:11:310:11:32

-Radzi, I think we're at the bottom.

-I think we're stone-cold last.

0:11:320:11:36

Why not check out Barney's game,

0:11:360:11:38

where you have to guess which sport he is acting out.

0:11:380:11:41

-Looks like he's just got a headache.

-He's slapping his head and pointing.

0:11:410:11:44

I have no idea. We would be bottom of that one.

0:11:440:11:46

You may have watched in the last few weeks

0:11:460:11:49

and you may have been loving my Wave Runner challenge.

0:11:490:11:51

I know some of you have. Because look at this week's Big Badge Wall,

0:11:510:11:55

covered in all of your fab Sport Relief posts. It is brilliant.

0:11:550:11:59

Less sweaty than the socks.

0:11:590:12:01

This has been sent in by Kaden, who's 7, from Cirencester.

0:12:010:12:04

I am in my Wave Runner box thing. That's taken a loads of time

0:12:040:12:08

to make. Thank you. I've even got glittery hair. That's great. Thanks.

0:12:080:12:13

The creativity all of you have shown over Lindsey's Wave Runner challenge

0:12:130:12:16

is off the charts, including George from Oxfordshire - feast your eyes

0:12:160:12:19

upon his delicacy work here. Made from a water bottle and straws,

0:12:190:12:24

to make paddles. George, you're a genius!

0:12:240:12:26

He thinks it rained on the challenge.

0:12:260:12:28

I'm glad it didn't. That was the one bit of bad weather we didn't have.

0:12:280:12:31

This one is brilliant.

0:12:310:12:33

It's from Keira, who's 10, from Tamworth.

0:12:330:12:35

I'm there with my hands in the air, loving my Wave Runner challenge.

0:12:350:12:39

And the sun has even got sunglasses on. Brilliant, thank you.

0:12:390:12:42

And let's take a look at Susanna from Bishop Stortford,

0:12:420:12:45

who's made this magnificent picture of Lindsey

0:12:450:12:48

who's smiling away there, covered in bubble packaging.

0:12:480:12:51

There she is inside her zorb. Well done, Susanna.

0:12:510:12:54

I just want to take a minute to say thank you for all of this post.

0:12:540:12:57

It does mean the world to me.

0:12:570:12:59

It just shows how much YOU care about my challenge as well.

0:12:590:13:02

-So thank you very much.

-Now, we know that Lindsey is the Wave Runner.

0:13:020:13:05

But are YOU the Wave Runner?

0:13:050:13:07

Find out by taking our quiz

0:13:070:13:09

on the Blue Peter website.

0:13:090:13:11

Check it out, and figure out if you've got what it takes!

0:13:110:13:15

We had a go to see if we could be mini Wave Runners the other day.

0:13:150:13:18

That is on the website - Radzi and I playing a fun game. You won it,

0:13:180:13:22

I know you did. Check it out on the website. It's very good fun.

0:13:220:13:25

And you can see me getting all my good luck messages before

0:13:250:13:29

the Wave Runner challenge.

0:13:290:13:31

-It's all Wave Runner today!

-Rightfully so.

0:13:310:13:33

I think we'd better do it...

0:13:330:13:35

It's time for the final part of my epic Sport Relief challenge.

0:13:350:13:40

Six months ago,

0:13:440:13:46

I began my Sport Relief challenge to run across the Irish Sea.

0:13:460:13:51

Working with a team of elite engineers,

0:13:510:13:53

we created a unique machine.

0:13:530:13:56

And I had to get fitter than I've ever been before.

0:13:560:13:59

(I feel sick!)

0:13:590:14:01

It's time to take on the sea.

0:14:020:14:05

Can I become...the Wave Runner?

0:14:050:14:08

So I am finally here in Donaghadee, in Northern Ireland.

0:14:100:14:14

Pretty nervous - tomorrow is the biggest challenge of my life.

0:14:140:14:17

There's loads still left to do, got to get the machine up,

0:14:170:14:19

but I guess all that's left to say is, "Let's do this."

0:14:190:14:23

As our engineers start preparations,

0:14:230:14:26

I meet up with my mentor, Professor Greg Whyte.

0:14:260:14:29

-So how you feeling, mate?

-Really, really scared.

0:14:310:14:34

It sounds obvious but I just feel terrified.

0:14:340:14:37

What you've got to do now is get that mental self ready.

0:14:370:14:40

-I've hit walls before with Blue Peter challenges.

-Yeah.

0:14:400:14:43

But all I remember is that feeling of, "I cannot go on."

0:14:430:14:47

What you want to do is draw on that experience.

0:14:470:14:49

The fact is you got to that point in the Patrouille des Glaciers,

0:14:490:14:52

when you were doing that race, and you thought, "I cannot go on"

0:14:520:14:55

and yet you did. In the marathon, when you think, "I can't go on,

0:14:550:14:58

"I can't keep going" - but you DID.

0:14:580:15:01

You know that if you keep pushing, you will be able to make it.

0:15:010:15:03

Agh! I want YOU to do it, Greg.

0:15:030:15:05

I'll be watching!

0:15:050:15:07

The team gathers to finalise tomorrow's route across the sea.

0:15:090:15:13

I can't travel in a straight line, so starting in Donaghadee,

0:15:130:15:17

I'll head southeast to the centre of the Channel.

0:15:170:15:20

Then, when the tide turns, I'll travel northeast

0:15:200:15:23

towards Portpatrick. It's an estimated 28 miles.

0:15:230:15:28

So, it's time for bed.

0:15:280:15:29

Tomorrow is the biggest day of my life.

0:15:290:15:33

This is it.

0:15:360:15:37

My Wave Runner team have done THEIR job,

0:15:370:15:39

and now it's time for me to do MINE.

0:15:390:15:42

Welcome to my home for this challenge.

0:15:480:15:51

Finally, it's time to get started.

0:15:510:15:54

Here we go...

0:15:540:15:55

Despite the fact it's dark, conditions are perfect.

0:15:580:16:02

There's not a breath of wind in the air

0:16:020:16:04

and I can feel myself really pushing through the water.

0:16:040:16:07

-How you feeling?

-Yeah, I'm OK. I'm calm.

0:16:070:16:11

Brilliant, Lindsey! Fantastic!

0:16:110:16:14

I'm feeling really strong.

0:16:140:16:16

She is absolutely flying.

0:16:160:16:18

I manage to cover 2.5 miles in my first hour.

0:16:180:16:22

As the sun rises, the world wakes up to my Wave Runner challenge.

0:16:220:16:26

Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell is planning to make

0:16:260:16:29

the journey in nothing more than an inflatable ball.

0:16:290:16:31

She's zorbing across the Irish Channel!

0:16:310:16:33

Follow Lindsey's progress at bbc.co.uk...

0:16:330:16:35

Thank you, and pass on our best wishes to Lindsey.

0:16:350:16:38

For the next hour, I manage to ride the tide

0:16:410:16:44

and force myself out into the Irish Sea. I have now covered four miles

0:16:440:16:48

and I'm starting to find my rhythm.

0:16:480:16:51

Oh!

0:16:510:16:52

And all that hard work is already paying off,

0:16:540:16:56

as I'm treated to the most stunning sunrise I've ever seen.

0:16:560:17:00

This is beautiful!

0:17:040:17:06

But it doesn't last long. I've still got a lot of work to do.

0:17:070:17:11

Every hour I stop to take on fuel,

0:17:130:17:16

which also gives Greg a chance to check on my health.

0:17:160:17:19

Course is good, pace is good.

0:17:190:17:20

It's just having to work that little bit harder to keep it,

0:17:200:17:23

that's the difference, mate.

0:17:230:17:25

But everything that goes in has to come out.

0:17:250:17:28

So I've done a wee in my wet suit.

0:17:280:17:31

OK. Too much information.

0:17:310:17:34

After four hours, I've gone eight miles. But we have a problem...

0:17:340:17:38

It feels like I'm in a balloon that's gone down a little bit.

0:17:410:17:45

What it looks like is actually the zorb's deflating.

0:17:450:17:48

If the ball keeps losing air

0:17:480:17:50

it could put the whole challenge at risk.

0:17:500:17:53

Our only option is to inflate the ball at sea.

0:17:530:17:56

That's it! Better!

0:17:560:17:59

Thankfully, it works.

0:17:590:18:00

I'm now in my fifth hour. It's by far the longest time

0:18:030:18:07

I've ever been in this ball, and I'm really starting to ache.

0:18:070:18:10

But I keep remembering why I'm doing this. It's all for Sport Relief.

0:18:100:18:14

Money that's raised by Sport Relief helps fund charities like Jigsaw.

0:18:150:18:20

They run loads of sports sessions,

0:18:200:18:22

especially for people with disabilities...

0:18:220:18:25

Oh!

0:18:250:18:26

..to help them get active and make friends.

0:18:260:18:29

Coming here is really important because it gives me

0:18:290:18:32

a chance to get out with people of my own age.

0:18:320:18:35

The staff here at Jigsaw provide a really safe

0:18:350:18:38

and a fun environment for all these swimmers.

0:18:380:18:42

It's really good fun.

0:18:420:18:43

It makes us very healthy and fit.

0:18:430:18:45

This is just one of the ways

0:18:450:18:48

the money you raise can make a real difference to people's lives.

0:18:480:18:52

So do your bit and get involved, with Sport Relief.

0:18:520:18:55

Well, she's 6.5 hours in, so about 13 miles done.

0:18:570:19:02

24,000 uphill steps.

0:19:020:19:05

This is where she starts to question whether she can make it or not.

0:19:050:19:08

So, she's done a lot, but she's got an awful long way to go.

0:19:080:19:12

The conditions have changed since this morning.

0:19:120:19:15

The wind and waves are much stronger

0:19:150:19:18

and I'm struggling to keep my balance...

0:19:180:19:21

It's just pushing me over!

0:19:210:19:23

It's pushing me to the left.

0:19:230:19:25

This is so tough. But I've got to keep trying.

0:19:270:19:31

15 miles in, and I've reached a critical moment in my journey.

0:19:340:19:39

The tide is turning and should start pushing me

0:19:390:19:42

towards my destination of Portpatrick.

0:19:420:19:44

But over the next hour, the wind increases

0:19:450:19:48

and the waves just get higher.

0:19:480:19:50

It's taking all my strength to stay upright.

0:19:500:19:54

Agh!

0:19:560:19:58

I'm so frustrated.

0:19:580:19:59

I know I have to beat these conditions to stay on track.

0:19:590:20:02

It is too slippy!

0:20:020:20:05

After 16 miles,

0:20:050:20:07

Greg calls me in for a crisis talk.

0:20:070:20:09

Your pace has been amazing from start to this point.

0:20:090:20:12

But the problem is that those tides are just really quick today.

0:20:120:20:16

And with the combination of that and the wind,

0:20:160:20:19

it's just pushing you in the wrong direction.

0:20:190:20:21

This is tough. Really, really tough.

0:20:210:20:24

-OK?

-Are just not going anywhere?

0:20:240:20:26

No, we are, but we're going in the wrong direction.

0:20:260:20:29

We're not going where we want to go. OK?

0:20:290:20:30

This has got nothing to do with you.

0:20:300:20:32

There's not many people as brave as you, let me tell you that.

0:20:330:20:37

I'm running out of time. But I'm determined to get back on course.

0:20:400:20:44

# I never thought I needed help before... #

0:20:460:20:50

Pushing me around.

0:20:500:20:52

The extra effort is agony.

0:20:520:20:55

# Thought that I could get by by myself... #

0:20:550:20:58

And the waves are impossible.

0:20:580:21:00

# Now I know I just can't take it any more... #

0:21:010:21:06

I manage one more mile.

0:21:060:21:08

# And with a humble heart... #

0:21:080:21:09

Then I hear the words I'm dreading.

0:21:090:21:12

Greg tells me to stop.

0:21:140:21:16

Come on, let's get you out. Let's get you out of there.

0:21:180:21:21

Are you sure we can't just keep trying?

0:21:210:21:23

Mate, the tide simply won't let you get to shore. That's the problem.

0:21:230:21:26

It fundamentally becomes too dangerous to be out there.

0:21:260:21:30

I can't believe it's over.

0:21:300:21:32

I've been at sea for nine hours, but I have to accept

0:21:320:21:35

that I can't make it to Scotland against the tide.

0:21:350:21:38

I'm devastated.

0:21:380:21:41

I did manage to walk 17 miles across the Irish Sea.

0:21:420:21:46

But it just wasn't enough.

0:21:460:21:49

As we head into Portpatrick, I'm feeling gutted.

0:21:500:21:54

But then everything changes when I see a crowd.

0:21:540:21:57

CROWD CHEERS

0:21:570:21:58

-ALL:

-Well done, Lindsey!

0:21:580:22:01

The town has come to show their support and cheer me in.

0:22:010:22:05

And right at the front is my dad.

0:22:050:22:07

THEY CLAP AND CHEER

0:22:070:22:10

Well done, you. So proud of you.

0:22:100:22:12

This means the world to me.

0:22:120:22:15

Thank you so much for coming! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

0:22:170:22:20

This has been the toughest challenge of my life.

0:22:200:22:23

Agh!

0:22:230:22:24

And in the end, although I didn't quite make it,

0:22:240:22:27

I'm so proud that I never, ever gave up.

0:22:270:22:32

I hope it's inspired you to get involved for Sport Relief, and most

0:22:320:22:36

importantly, I hope it's shown you it's just about having a go.

0:22:360:22:39

It doesn't matter how you get to the finish line, just have a go.

0:22:390:22:43

I need a hot bath!

0:22:430:22:44

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:22:490:22:51

-Aw!

-Linz...?

-Yeah?

0:22:510:22:53

I'm going to start things off by saying

0:22:530:22:55

the thing I'm most proud of, Blue Peter, is what it stands for.

0:22:550:22:58

So it stands for the badge.

0:22:580:23:00

But another thing it stands for are the values.

0:23:000:23:02

So perseverance, trying your best, determination.

0:23:020:23:04

And what you've done there will leave every single viewer

0:23:040:23:07

watching at home under no illusions or any doubt whatsoever

0:23:070:23:10

-that you personify Blue Peter.

-Yeah.

0:23:100:23:13

And what you're trying to do is to inspire people

0:23:130:23:16

to give something a go for Sport Relief. You gave something a go.

0:23:160:23:19

And we are so, so proud of you. Can we please hear it

0:23:190:23:21

for Lindsey Russell? CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:23:210:23:24

Thank you. I don't know if we've got time

0:23:240:23:26

but I just want to quickly say that it is all about giving it a go

0:23:260:23:29

and to anyone who tries something and thinks,

0:23:290:23:31

"I can't make it to the finish line," it doesn't matter.

0:23:310:23:34

Just get to the start line, and you'll be really proud of yourself.

0:23:340:23:37

As we are proud of you, Lindsey. We really are. And as a friend,

0:23:370:23:40

not just as a presenter, as your friend, I'm really proud of you.

0:23:400:23:42

I'm crying! Anyway, on this track behind me...

0:23:420:23:45

Everyone's crying in the gallery as well! It's not helping.

0:23:450:23:48

This track behind me has been the home of so many incredible

0:23:480:23:50

sporting moments.

0:23:500:23:52

Of course, Sir Chris Hoy got his gold medal here.

0:23:520:23:54

Victoria Pendleton as well, and Dame Sarah Storey.

0:23:540:23:57

Some true legends have all won gold here.

0:23:570:24:00

As well as, you may remember a couple of weeks ago,

0:24:000:24:03

Laura Trott was right here to win not one but two golds.

0:24:030:24:07

She's an amazing, amazing woman.

0:24:070:24:09

So now, I'm going to chat to another sporting legend.

0:24:090:24:13

I'm just going to get rid of my tears and stop being emotional.

0:24:130:24:16

Over here is CBBC's very own Mark Wright!

0:24:160:24:19

-How you doing, Lindsey?

-Are you good? I was before that VT, yeah.

0:24:190:24:22

I'm doing all right. How are YOU feeling?

0:24:220:24:25

Because in just a few hours, you've got to get that bike

0:24:250:24:27

onto that track.

0:24:270:24:28

-Yeah. Firstly I'm feeling extremely nervous...

-Understandable.

0:24:280:24:32

It's a nerve-racking thing, and I'm quite competitive as well

0:24:320:24:35

-so I want to do well.

-I was going to ask, are you competitive?

0:24:350:24:38

Because you're in the elimination race -

0:24:380:24:40

for those at home who don't know what that means, talk us through it.

0:24:400:24:42

So basically it's six competitors,

0:24:420:24:46

eight laps - every other lap,

0:24:460:24:48

whoever crosses the line last is out.

0:24:480:24:51

So basically it's a sprint from the start because

0:24:510:24:53

after two laps they start eliminating people.

0:24:530:24:56

-You don't want to be that first one out.

-You don't.

0:24:560:24:58

You can't be that first one, Mark. Do CBBC proud!

0:24:580:25:01

And normally I'm quite confident when it comes to sports,

0:25:010:25:04

but this one, I've seen the other guys and the competition is stiff.

0:25:040:25:07

It's also a really hard sport. Getting on that velodrome -

0:25:070:25:09

-I know it doesn't look very steep but it really is, isn't it?

-Yeah.

0:25:090:25:12

Who's on your team?

0:25:120:25:14

So my team is the gorgeous Harry Judd,

0:25:140:25:17

and our team captain is Freddie Flintoff,

0:25:170:25:19

who actually won it last year

0:25:190:25:21

so we've got an advantage there.

0:25:210:25:23

The other team's Hugh Dennis, Olympian Steve Redgrave...

0:25:230:25:27

Or should I say SIR Steve Redgrave,

0:25:270:25:29

and comedian Hugh Dennis.

0:25:290:25:31

-Wow. They're quite strong teams.

-Yeah, I know.

0:25:310:25:34

I can see why you're nervous now.

0:25:340:25:35

No disrespect to someone like Steve, I thought I had,

0:25:350:25:38

like, the age advantage on him being a few years younger

0:25:380:25:41

but when I saw him out on that track, every time

0:25:410:25:43

we were going to sprint during practice, he was faster every time.

0:25:430:25:48

The man has got powerful legs!

0:25:480:25:49

Well, listen, Mark, your legs are looking powerful too.

0:25:490:25:52

-I think you're going to be all right.

-Thank you.

0:25:520:25:54

I'm going to send you on your bike. Give me your mic. Off you go.

0:25:540:25:57

-Go and train.

-See you later.

-Do it for CBBC! See you later.

0:25:570:25:59

Remember, you can watch Clash of the Titans

0:25:590:26:03

tomorrow, BBC One, at 7:00pm. So make sure you're watching.

0:26:030:26:06

And if you want to get involved this year for Sport Relief 2016,

0:26:060:26:09

grab a grown-up and get down to the Sport Relief Games on Sunday.

0:26:090:26:13

-Which we're going to, aren't we, Radz?

-We are indeed.

-Bye, Mark!

0:26:130:26:18

He's out of here. On yer bike!

0:26:180:26:20

He's ON his bike, you see, it's literal!

0:26:200:26:22

At the start of the show we asked what you are doing for this year's

0:26:220:26:26

Sport Relief tomorrow. Your comments have come flooding in.

0:26:260:26:29

-Will you kick things off?

-I will.

0:26:290:26:32

Lime Quiet Snail - good name - says,

0:26:320:26:34

"I'm going to attempt to run around "my garden 50 times in 40 minutes."
