Today's show is going to be brilliant.

That's right, we're announcing the winners

of the London 2017 Mascot Competition.

We've got a live performance from the catchiest boyband around.

That is two pirates fighting over a Victoria sponge and one of them

has got a head as an orange.

I knew you'd say something silly on the live show.

No, it's not that, it's actually the two mascots for

the World Para Athletics

-and the IAAF World Championships London 2017.

-Well done.

Boom! I remembered that. I'm so happy!

Which is very exciting. They're going to be seen by millions

and they were actually designed by a very special Blue Peter viewer.

-We can't say any more.

-Hang on a second...

No, look, they're going for a sneak peak.

You can't, because we're doing a big reveal later on.

I've said it before, I will say it again, best competition ever.

Did I mention I went to the world's biggest wrestling event, by the way?

-Yeah, you did, once or twice, yeah.

-Quite a lot.

That's because I did go there.

It's watched by over 100 million people throughout the world.

That's like ours.

In fact, the only two sporting events watched by more people

are the World Cup final and the Super Bowl. It is off the chart.

-And Blue Peter.

-This man here is Triple H.

-He's a colossus.

-He's a titan.

He's a beast. That was me, but that's him there.

'Can you tell I'm excited?

'Well, I am.'

Blue Peter has been given access to one of the biggest sporting events

on the planet - WrestleMania!

Getting up to 100 million viewers in more than 200 countries

around the world, it doesn't get much bigger than this.

We are officially in the plane and on our way to Orlando, Florida

in the United States of America, flying at 34,000 feet.

I could not be more excited.

I'm still in my outfit, as you can see.

But this is going to be a proper Blue Peter exclusive because

we'll show you exactly what goes in to making one of

the greatest shows on Earth.

Since 1985, this has been wrestling's equivalent of

the Champions League final, and the biggest event in the WWE calendar.

Ever since I can remember being here has been a dream,

and as we arrive in Florida, it starts to sink in -

this is actually going to happen!

I've loved wrestling for over 20 years and it's simply for

the fact that you get to see things in the ring which only happen

in films, but they actually happen in real life.

These people are doing the most extraordinary things

and I know this year's WrestleMania will be no different.

But there's much more than just the Main Event going on here

and I start my tour with the Performance Center,

where athletes are trained to potentially become

Superstars of the future.

We've got different rings around the place where the guys

are learning specific skills.

So you can see here they're working on their ground game.

This is my favourite bit - it's the big guys.

They're taking a lot of bumps, so it's really, really noisy.

They're getting big and they're getting strong.

I can't believe this, this is where you actually become a Superstar.

It actually exists.

A Superstar like Becky Lynch.

Mum, I'm about to meet a real, live professional wrestler!

Becky, you are the result of this place, essentially.

-What does it mean to you?

-Oh, it means everything to me.

This is just an amazing, incredible facility.

I mean, you look around and you've got seven rings,

you've got a state-of-the-art gym, you've got a training facility

where you can go, you're learning from the best minds in the business.

And, essentially, they took a girl from Ireland who had

zero belief in herself, whose confidence was down on the ground...

-Is that right? You didn't believe in yourself?

-100%, 100%.

And they turned me into a Superstar.

But one of my favourite parts of this sporting spectacle

doesn't happen in the ring, it happens on the way to the ring.

You might just recognise this behind me here,

because as well as learning the in-ring skills

they learn the out-of-ring skills as well,

which starts with their entrance walks.

They actually practise the entrance walk - the doors would open,

the music would hit, their video would appear on the screen.

Imagine this right now...

Radzi's music hits, the video is playing, and I walk out.

I get inside the ring, I'm competing at WrestleMania.

CHEERING

I want to be a Superstar, please.

And one of the reasons I'd love to be a wrestler is this man -

international icon Triple H.

It's hard to put into words what it is.

It's the fifth-largest sport in the world,

that's behind the Olympics, Fifa, the Super Bowl.

It's up there, you know?

We're in Orlando this week, it's five sold-out events,

over probably 140,000 people, you know, have tickets right now.

We'll do about 75,000 people on Sunday for WrestleMania.

It is the can't-miss event around the globe.

At Blue Peter we're all about inspiring people,

and we think, with what you've done,

with your incredible legacy both inside and outside the ring,

-you've earnt your very own Blue Peter badge.

-Wow.

-And well-earnt.

-Now I'm the man.

So, we gave you the opportunity to design the IAAF World Championship

and the World Para Athletics London 2017 mascots.

-Beautifully said, Radzi.

These mascots are going to be seen by millions of people

all over the world and they're going to rub shoulders with some

pretty big sporting superstars, like Usain Bolt, Jonnie Peacock,

to name just a couple.

So it's no wonder that over 4,000 of you applied

for this amazing BP competition. Well done.

How do you get from 4,000 down to 30, though?

That's a tough ask, isn't it?

Luckily, it wasn't down to us, it was down to our panel of judges,

and that's exactly what they've done.

It's been a tough decision, but they're right here in the studio.

Let's have a look at the runners-up from each category.

So, first off, as you can see here, we've got the six to eights.

Now, these are brilliant. Some really creative designs.

There's colour everywhere, amazing animals they've gone for,

and some pretty cool names, which I'm liking.

Dash and Flash in the middle there, I love that.

The standard's so high, isn't it? Amazing.

-Now, the runners up from 9- to 11-year olds.

-Wow.

Again, the standards really are off the charts.

Got to talk about Lon Don, by the way, what a design that was,

but well done if you can see your design up there.

Let's move down to the final board, let you get a lovely shot of that.

12 to 15 age category.

I mean, you can see the standard is really, really high.

Some brilliant names.

I love Athegon and Paragon, they're great names, they're dragons.

You can see that the orange badges are there in the corners -

that means that you have all won your orange badges. Congratulations.

I don't know why I changed my voice then, I just did, for some reason.

So, to go down from 30 to just one, the winner, what a task that is.

The judges were so impressed by this design.

They were really impressed by the creativity of it and that

she draws attention to threatened species - you can see the hedgehog

there and a bee that's called Whizbee, which they loved.

In our 9 to 11 age category, give it up for Rufus!

Love the use of colour in this picture, it's very bright,

beautiful design, and Track and Field are inspired names, Rufus.

-To complete the three, the top entry in

the 12- to 15-year-old category is Bradley from Nottinghamshire!

The judges absolutely loved your use of ants and especially

the alliterated names Virtue and Valour. Well done, dude.

But, of course, there can only be one winner, and that winner

will have their mascots walking around the games at London 2017.

It's Elinor!

Here she is!

Well done, Ellie, welcome to the show.

So, Elinor, you are currently the envy of every single person

watching Blue Peter. How does it feel to win a competition?

-Really good.

-Not just that, but the £2 million prize money. I mean...

-No! No, no, no.

-No, that's not true. I made that up.

Actually, when I first told Elinor that she'd won,

that was a couple of weeks ago.

-Should we see your story, Elinor?

-Yeah.

-Roll it!

Back in January, we launched the London 2017 Mascot Competition.

Over 4,000 of your entries came flooding in,

so the first thing we had to do was narrow them down to a top 30.

I like the characterisation and I like the sense of story.

I really like those two names, they work really well together.

With the 30 selected, it was down to London,

so our specialist judging panel could pick a winner.

And these guys are real specialists.

Paralympic, World and European gold medallist Richard Whitehead.

Today with the mascot design,

I'm looking for something very creative, enthusiastic, colourful,

that will represent us on the track at the world championships.

And Olympic triple World and European champion

Jessica Ennis-Hill.

I think a good mascot would be really unique,

bright and colourful, and most of all, really, really sporty.

And they were joined by bigwigs from London 2017 and Blue Peter.

Judging was so tough.

The panel were blown away by the standard of the entries.

And with the eyes of the athletics world on the mascots this summer,

they had to get it right.

I see that working very well.

I see that, colourful-wise, working very well.

So, I was really leaning towards this one.

Whether you could still have that with the last one... Oh!

-I can take that one out.

-OK, so that's my favourite again.

I'll probably go one, two, three.

After hours of heated debate, they made their decision.

-Are we all agreed?

-Yes.

-And I think they'll both make brilliant mascots.

They loved Ellie's entry, and the creativity and imagination

she showed by designing Hero the hedgehog and Whizbee the bee.

And it was down to me to deliver the good news.

This is the house of our competition winner, Elinor.

She has no idea that we're here.

She's just come back from school and hopefully she hasn't seen us.

I can't wait to see her face!

-How are you?

-Very well.

You're eating a banana, so you're obviously good.

Our judges have decided that you're our winner.

So, we've actually got the two designs that you sent in.

They look fantastic. Can you tell me about your designs?

I just had this picture in my mind of a hedgehog running,

but when I drew it, it took me ages to do the final design.

I chose them because they're both endangered species.

And the fact that they're survivors as well is incredible.

We think that you deserve your very own orange Blue Peter badge.

-That's for you, Elinor.

-Thank you.

'she'll get to see her designs turned into the mascots

'for London 2017, and they'll be doing that here.

'So, a few weeks later, we visit the factory

'to see how they're getting on.

'And we begin by seeing the final designs,

'inspired by her characters.'

Look at that! What do you think, Ellie?

It's really good.

'Hero the hedgehog is for the IAAF Championships

'and Whizbee the bee the World Para Athletics Championships.'

They are brilliant.

'But we're not done yet - these designs need to be turned into

'real-life wearable costumes, and they're being made while we're here,

'so costume designer Crispin could use our help.'

What we've got here is two pattern pieces,

and we need both bits cutting out twice.

So, once on the left-hand side and once on the right-hand side.

Draw around the pieces for us, yeah?

And once you've got them pinned together we'll need you to

very carefully cut these pieces out.
