The 2014 Winter Olympics kicks off tomorrow | 7:30:25 | 7:30:27
so today we're celebrating all things sporty and wintry. | 7:30:27 | 7:30:31
You'll find out if I've got what it takes to control | 7:30:31 | 7:30:33
a beast of a snow machine. | 7:30:33 | 7:30:34
We'll show you how to make these medals, | 7:30:34 | 7:30:36
which are so good, you're going to want to eat them. | 7:30:36 | 7:30:39
Would you through yourself headfirst down an icy chute | 7:30:39 | 7:30:41
on a tray at 60mph? | 7:30:41 | 7:30:44
He did. Find out why. | 7:30:44 | 7:30:45
It's coming up live on today's Blue Peter. | 7:30:45 | 7:30:47
MUSIC: "Blue Peter Theme" | 7:30:47 | 7:30:49
Yes, the ship has officially set sail. This is a live show. | 7:31:07 | 7:31:10
Hi, how are you? Hello you two, how are you doing? | 7:31:10 | 7:31:12
-Who are you talking to, Barney? -Did I not tell you? -No. | 7:31:12 | 7:31:15
-I can see into people's homes. -In there? | 7:31:15 | 7:31:17
-Just by looking through the TV. -Oh, right. Hi! | 7:31:17 | 7:31:20
What about the girl having her tea over there as well? | 7:31:20 | 7:31:23
-How are you? -Looks yummy. | 7:31:23 | 7:31:25
We are really excited in the Blue Peter studio because, of course, | 7:31:25 | 7:31:28
it is the Winter Olympics, | 7:31:28 | 7:31:30
so we're going to be linking up with | 7:31:30 | 7:31:32
Sochi in Russia to find out just how Team GB are doing | 7:31:32 | 7:31:35
ahead of the Winter Olympics tomorrow. | 7:31:35 | 7:31:39
We will speak to my good friend Tim Warwood. | 7:31:39 | 7:31:41
He's not just a man famous for CBBC presenting. | 7:31:41 | 7:31:44
No, he is a former British snowboard champion. He is so talented. | 7:31:44 | 7:31:48
He'll join us from the slopes | 7:31:48 | 7:31:50
of a brand-new winter sport called snowboard, no... | 7:31:50 | 7:31:52
snowboard slopestyle. | 7:31:52 | 7:31:54
It's that new, we don't even know it ourselves! | 7:31:54 | 7:31:57
The reason we've picked up on this is, | 7:31:57 | 7:31:58
not only is it difficult to say, | 7:31:58 | 7:32:00
it's also a great idea to get you involved | 7:32:00 | 7:32:02
and design your own brand-new Winter Olympics sport. | 7:32:02 | 7:32:04
What would it be? I'm thinking something like skiing and dancing. | 7:32:04 | 7:32:08
"Scancing". It goes a little bit like this. | 7:32:08 | 7:32:12
# Every day I'm shuffling. # | 7:32:12 | 7:32:17
That's how cool I am. | 7:32:17 | 7:32:19
I would probably choose | 7:32:19 | 7:32:20
something like whitewater rafting over a frozen river. | 7:32:20 | 7:32:23
-Ridiculous speed. -Dangerous as well. | 7:32:23 | 7:32:26
I would go for rubber ring ice jumping | 7:32:26 | 7:32:28
because you sit in a rubber ring | 7:32:28 | 7:32:30
and see how far you can glide and jump on the ice. | 7:32:30 | 7:32:32
Everything is difficult to say on today's show, have you noticed? | 7:32:32 | 7:32:35
-It's because we are cold. -What would you invent? | 7:32:35 | 7:32:37
A brand-new Winter Olympic sport. | 7:32:37 | 7:32:40
Please get in touch. | 7:32:40 | 7:32:41
We will read your suggestions out | 7:32:41 | 7:32:43
later in the show. | 7:32:43 | 7:32:45
If Lindsey's idea | 7:32:45 | 7:32:46
was ever to come into fruition, | 7:32:46 | 7:32:47
you'd need a really cool snow park in which to compete. | 7:32:47 | 7:32:51
I've been lucky enough to go to such a place. Location, Austria. | 7:32:51 | 7:32:55
The Stubai Glacier - some of Team GB even train there | 7:32:55 | 7:32:59
and the slopes and jumps are pristine. | 7:32:59 | 7:33:02
In order to get that, you will need a monster snow machine. | 7:33:02 | 7:33:07
Welcome to the top of the Stubai Flacier, | 7:33:10 | 7:33:12
3,210 metres above sea level. | 7:33:12 | 7:33:16
Every year, millions of people head to snow parks, | 7:33:16 | 7:33:20
like the one on top of this glacier, to have some wintry fun. | 7:33:20 | 7:33:24
But behind every good snow park lies an army of these mighty machines. | 7:33:25 | 7:33:29
They're called piste bashers. They are seriously powerful pieces of kit. | 7:33:29 | 7:33:36
Their job is to help level snow | 7:33:36 | 7:33:37
and create smooth surfaces for skiing and snowboarding. | 7:33:37 | 7:33:42
But piste bashers also have another job, to create ski jumps like this! | 7:33:44 | 7:33:50
I have been so lucky | 7:33:56 | 7:33:57
because we have been given our own corner of the piste | 7:33:57 | 7:34:01
and they are letting me make my own baby jump. Wish me luck! | 7:34:01 | 7:34:07
This is by far the biggest machine I have ever been in charge of | 7:34:07 | 7:34:11
and that means I need an expert co-driver. | 7:34:11 | 7:34:13
Mattias, what do I need to do? | 7:34:13 | 7:34:15
-You need this to stick and you can turn around here. -OK. | 7:34:17 | 7:34:22
A little bit more gas. | 7:34:22 | 7:34:25
Yeah, fine. | 7:34:26 | 7:34:29
We're indestructible! | 7:34:29 | 7:34:31
Now, it's all very well driving around in circles, | 7:34:34 | 7:34:37
but this isn't making a snow jump, so what next? | 7:34:37 | 7:34:40
Now you can take it this way. | 7:34:40 | 7:34:44
You can pull it down and you can take it slowly with you. | 7:34:44 | 7:34:49
OK, we have lowered the snow. | 7:34:49 | 7:34:52
-Here we go! -Very good! | 7:34:55 | 7:34:56
This piste basher really is a beast. | 7:34:58 | 7:35:01
It has the power of 450 horses | 7:35:01 | 7:35:04
and weighs the same as a double-decker bus. | 7:35:04 | 7:35:07
It can deal with almost any condition the mountain can throw at it. | 7:35:07 | 7:35:12
What's become really apparent | 7:35:12 | 7:35:14
is that having only driven it for a little bit | 7:35:14 | 7:35:17
and tried to lower the spade, | 7:35:17 | 7:35:19
Mattias is constantly adjusting the lever because, actually, | 7:35:19 | 7:35:22
the spade does not go down level, you can slightly tilt it, | 7:35:22 | 7:35:27
and that's because obviously the mountain is not completely flat, | 7:35:27 | 7:35:30
is not perfectly straight. | 7:35:30 | 7:35:32
The skill involved in this, | 7:35:32 | 7:35:33
it's not just a case of pushing a load of snow, | 7:35:33 | 7:35:36
there are so many minor adjustments that he is making. | 7:35:36 | 7:35:39
I've got a lot to learn. | 7:35:39 | 7:35:40
Ski jumps are the big thing in winter sports at the moment. | 7:35:41 | 7:35:45
In fact, at the Sochi Winter Olympics, athletes will, | 7:35:45 | 7:35:48
for the very first time, compete in a sport called slopestyle. | 7:35:48 | 7:35:54
# Fly high, let me go. # | 7:35:54 | 7:36:02
Slopestyle sees competitors tackle jumps and obstacles like these, | 7:36:02 | 7:36:05
to attempt the most difficult tricks and moves possible. | 7:36:05 | 7:36:10
Great Britain has genuine medal hopes in the sport, | 7:36:14 | 7:36:18
through Jenny Jones in the women's competition | 7:36:18 | 7:36:21
and James Woods in the men's. | 7:36:21 | 7:36:25
Wow! When else would I get to drive a snow basher? | 7:36:25 | 7:36:27
Check out our motorway of snow and we have made this. Look at it! | 7:36:27 | 7:36:32
It's a mountain of snow! | 7:36:32 | 7:36:35
That's only part of the process. | 7:36:35 | 7:36:37
Creating the perfect jump now needs some expert crafting | 7:36:37 | 7:36:40
and that's where snow shapers Manuel and Bernie come in. | 7:36:40 | 7:36:45
Fantastic job, what can I do to help with the finishing touches? | 7:36:46 | 7:36:50
You can get a shovel. Try to make the snow here in front compact. | 7:36:50 | 7:36:57
That is the point where the rider is going to jump over. | 7:36:57 | 7:37:00
Shapers like Bernie and Manuel are in high demand. | 7:37:00 | 7:37:05
During the ski season, they will tour the ski parks of the world, | 7:37:05 | 7:37:08
building top-class jumps like these. | 7:37:08 | 7:37:12
The Sochi Winter Olympics are just around the corner. | 7:37:14 | 7:37:17
How much detail would go into building those jumps? | 7:37:17 | 7:37:20
They need to be perfect. It is a world jumping competition, | 7:37:20 | 7:37:25
a really important competition. Everything has to be perfect. | 7:37:25 | 7:37:29
Lots of sculpting later and our mini jump is about there. | 7:37:29 | 7:37:33
We finished the ramp and all we need is somebody to try it. | 7:37:33 | 7:37:37
I can't ski. | 7:37:37 | 7:37:39
But I know someone that can. | 7:37:39 | 7:37:42
Paddy Graham, nicknamed "Legs of Steel", | 7:37:43 | 7:37:46
is one of Britain's top three skiers. | 7:37:46 | 7:37:49
He's just the man to try out my jump. | 7:37:51 | 7:37:54
Yes, how cool is that! | 7:37:57 | 7:38:01
Not a bad day at the office! | 7:38:03 | 7:38:05
-Radzi, that was a mammoth machine. -It was like a tank on snow. | 7:38:07 | 7:38:12
-It is unreal. What a day! -I don't know how you did that. | 7:38:12 | 7:38:14
Now, something we are really excited about in the Blue Peter studio. | 7:38:14 | 7:38:18
Of course, the start of the Winter Olympics tomorrow | 7:38:18 | 7:38:20
in the Russian city of Sochi. | 7:38:20 | 7:38:22
We've even got a map to show you because Russia is a huge country | 7:38:22 | 7:38:25
and if you look down at the bottom left, you can just see Sochi. | 7:38:25 | 7:38:29
We are now going to speak to a man who is a CBBC Wild presenter. | 7:38:29 | 7:38:33
This man is so awesome, he has "woo" in his name. | 7:38:33 | 7:38:37
Tim Warwood, how are you, sir? | 7:38:37 | 7:38:39
I am absolutely amazing. Look at this place! | 7:38:41 | 7:38:45
It has been incredible so far. | 7:38:45 | 7:38:48
The sun is shining but don't let that lie to you | 7:38:48 | 7:38:51
because it is actually freezing cold here. | 7:38:51 | 7:38:53
We are amped here, you must be excited off the charts. | 7:38:53 | 7:38:56
-What are you getting up to? -Would you believe it? | 7:38:56 | 7:38:59
I used to be a professional snowboarder but now, | 7:38:59 | 7:39:01
because I'm not very good at snowboarding any more, | 7:39:01 | 7:39:03
I'm behind the microphone and I'm doing the commentary | 7:39:03 | 7:39:06
for BBC Sport for the snowboarding and freestyle skiing. | 7:39:06 | 7:39:10
You can probably see behind me here, | 7:39:10 | 7:39:12
practice is happening as we speak, you can see the riders coming over. | 7:39:12 | 7:39:15
It's ladies practice. And you can see... | 7:39:15 | 7:39:17
And, oh, what a beautiful frontside 360 there. | 7:39:17 | 7:39:20
I'm not quite sure who it is but that is a long way away. | 7:39:20 | 7:39:24
There, into a nice backside 360. | 7:39:24 | 7:39:27
So, women's practice happening right here. | 7:39:27 | 7:39:30
Never mind the qualifications | 7:39:30 | 7:39:32
because Jamie Nicholls has already made it into the final, | 7:39:32 | 7:39:36
so how good is that? | 7:39:36 | 7:39:37
It was the men's earlier on | 7:39:37 | 7:39:38
and Jamie made it straight through to the finals. | 7:39:38 | 7:39:40
Billy Morgan put down a really good show for the men's | 7:39:40 | 7:39:43
so Team GB, at the moment, doing very well indeed. | 7:39:43 | 7:39:46
We're feeling proud in the studio here. | 7:39:46 | 7:39:49
That's a new sport called slopestyle so can you tell us | 7:39:49 | 7:39:52
a little bit about that, Tim. | 7:39:52 | 7:39:53
Slopestyle is a brand-new sport | 7:39:55 | 7:39:57
and it's essentially a skate park but on a hill. | 7:39:57 | 7:40:00
So at the top of the course, you've got three rail sections. | 7:40:00 | 7:40:03
And then after the three rail sections, | 7:40:03 | 7:40:05
you've got these three big jumps. | 7:40:05 | 7:40:07
And the riders come down | 7:40:07 | 7:40:08
and they do loads of tricks on the boxes and the rails, | 7:40:08 | 7:40:10
and then they do three big tricks over the jumps | 7:40:10 | 7:40:13
and get some, pretty much, sweet air, to be honest. | 7:40:13 | 7:40:16
Jenny Jones has been doing really well for the girls. | 7:40:16 | 7:40:18
She's a snowboarder that thrives well under these conditions, | 7:40:18 | 7:40:21
on these big jumps. | 7:40:21 | 7:40:22
And she did really well earlier on, in her heat. | 7:40:22 | 7:40:24
And actually skiing slopestyle is also in the Olympics | 7:40:24 | 7:40:27
and we've got one of the favourites for the men, | 7:40:27 | 7:40:29
we've got Mr James Woods. | 7:40:29 | 7:40:30
And he is going to be throwing down on that course. | 7:40:30 | 7:40:33
Again, another rider that loves these big conditions. | 7:40:33 | 7:40:35
So expect a lot from Woodsy. | 7:40:35 | 7:40:37
Tim, I didn't know a lot about it before. | 7:40:37 | 7:40:39
You've convinced me. I'm going to be tuning in, my friend. | 7:40:39 | 7:40:42
Now, there are other sports as well where Britain have medal hopes, | 7:40:42 | 7:40:45
like Elise Christie in the speed skating. | 7:40:45 | 7:40:47
How much of a chance have people like her got? | 7:40:47 | 7:40:49
Oh, absolutely. I mean, she won a bronze medal not too long ago. | 7:40:51 | 7:40:54
Team GB are positively frothing at her prospects. | 7:40:54 | 7:40:57
That's actually going to be happening down in the ice skating arena, | 7:40:57 | 7:41:00
which is down the coast there, Adler...or Sochi. | 7:41:00 | 7:41:04
But we're up here in the mountains. | 7:41:04 | 7:41:05
And this is the mountain arena up here. | 7:41:05 | 7:41:07
You can see the freestyle section. | 7:41:07 | 7:41:09
But as you look across the mountains, | 7:41:09 | 7:41:11
you can see where the Boardercross course is going to be. | 7:41:11 | 7:41:13
Then we've got the moguls at the top. | 7:41:13 | 7:41:15
And then you might just be able to make out the top of the halfpipe. | 7:41:15 | 7:41:18
And then sprawled, positively looming over the mountain there | 7:41:18 | 7:41:22
is the down hill course for the alpine skiing. | 7:41:22 | 7:41:25
And let me tell you something, if, well, | 7:41:25 | 7:41:27
the steepness is anything to go by, it's going to be pretty crazy indeed. | 7:41:27 | 7:41:31
Tim, thank you so much for joining us in the studio. | 7:41:31 | 7:41:34
I hope you have the absolute time of your life out there. | 7:41:34 | 7:41:37
You deserve it. It's been an absolute pleasure. | 7:41:37 | 7:41:40
Well, thank you very much. It's been a pleasure. | 7:41:40 | 7:41:42
Thanks for having me on. Radzi, Lindsey, you guys take care. | 7:41:42 | 7:41:45
And enjoy the Winter Olympics. Make sure you tune in. | 7:41:45 | 7:41:47
-Will do. Bye-bye, Tim. -Bye-bye! We definitely will be tuning in. | 7:41:47 | 7:41:51
That looks so exciting and we're very jealous. | 7:41:51 | 7:41:53
And remember, if you head to our website... | 7:41:53 | 7:41:56
you can check out some exclusive interviews we've got | 7:41:56 | 7:41:59
with Billy Morgan and Katie Summerhayes. | 7:41:59 | 7:42:02
And we even got to see Billy Morgan in action. Have a look at this. | 7:42:02 | 7:42:05
MUSIC: "Unbelievable" by EMF | 7:42:05 | 7:42:10
My question is from navybluetinypuffin, | 7:42:10 | 7:42:12
"What goes through your mind when you go over the big jumps and ramps? | 7:42:12 | 7:42:16
"It must be scary." | 7:42:16 | 7:42:17
Yeah, it is quite scary, for sure. | 7:42:17 | 7:42:19
You kind of get used to it, | 7:42:19 | 7:42:20
the more and more snowboarding you're doing. | 7:42:20 | 7:42:22
You start off on the small ones and move up to the big ones. | 7:42:22 | 7:42:24
It's all fun in the end, really. | 7:42:24 | 7:42:27
And there is plenty more where that came from. | 7:42:27 | 7:42:29
So make sure you head to the website after the show and check it out. | 7:42:29 | 7:42:32
Over to you, Radzi. | 7:42:32 | 7:42:33
Lindsey, I am so excited! | 7:42:33 | 7:42:36
Good luck to all of our hopefuls. | 7:42:36 | 7:42:37
Now, one Olympic sport which we haven't spoken about | 7:42:37 | 7:42:40
is actually quite dear to my heart. | 7:42:40 | 7:42:42
It involves this. | 7:42:42 | 7:42:44
Now, this is not what you might think it is. | 7:42:44 | 7:42:46
It's not a sledge you'd slide down a snowy hill. | 7:42:46 | 7:42:48
In fact, it's a sledge that you lie on | 7:42:48 | 7:42:51
and you slide headfirst down an icy track | 7:42:51 | 7:42:54
at speeds of well over 60mph. | 7:42:54 | 7:42:56
It feels the most extreme water slide | 7:42:56 | 7:42:58
you've ever been on, in your life. | 7:42:58 | 7:43:00
It's called skeleton bobsleigh | 7:43:00 | 7:43:02
and I love it. | 7:43:02 | 7:43:03
Oh, my goodness! My heart is absolutely pounding. | 7:43:05 | 7:43:09
Ah... | 7:43:09 | 7:43:11 | |
And it's this that's got my blood pumping. | 7:43:11 | 7:43:14
I've just hurtled headfirst down an icy skeleton bob track. | 7:43:14 | 7:43:18
Skeleton is one of the fastest and most exciting sports | 7:43:19 | 7:43:24
in the Winter Olympics. | 7:43:24 | 7:43:26
And when I was a student, I had ambitions of becoming a top slider. | 7:43:26 | 7:43:29
But I haven't been near a track for three years. | 7:43:29 | 7:43:33
So to help me realise my dream of sliding on ice, | 7:43:33 | 7:43:36
World Champion Shelley Rudman is taking me back to basics. | 7:43:36 | 7:43:41
Let me just show you. If you're going to lift your head up, | 7:43:41 | 7:43:43
it'd be like that. Feet up a bit higher. | 7:43:43 | 7:43:45
-Hold on really tight. -OK. -It's a bit wet today | 7:43:45 | 7:43:47
-so it might be a bit slippy as well. -OK. | 7:43:47 | 7:43:50
I'm definitely a bit rusty | 7:43:53 | 7:43:55
but I've still got some of the noisiest skeleton skills! | 7:43:55 | 7:43:58
-HE WAILS -After my training, | 7:43:58 | 7:44:00
I asked Shelley for some top tips. | 7:44:00 | 7:44:02
For anyone who doesn't know what skeleton is, what exactly is it? | 7:44:02 | 7:44:05
Skeleton bobsleigh is where you race headfirst, on your front, | 7:44:05 | 7:44:10
on a sled, down ice chutes. | 7:44:10 | 7:44:12
-And how fast do you go? -You can go up to about 85mph. | 7:44:12 | 7:44:16
There aren't any brakes, so you can't stop. | 7:44:18 | 7:44:21
You could drag your feet to slow you down | 7:44:21 | 7:44:23
but that's not advisable. | 7:44:23 | 7:44:24
And the curves coming up are coming at you quite quickly. | 7:44:24 | 7:44:28
And you start to almost navigate them instinctively. | 7:44:28 | 7:44:31
The first time is really unusual, though. So it's... | 7:44:31 | 7:44:34
It's very breathtaking and it's a unique experience. | 7:44:34 | 7:44:38
'4.99! That's a tremendous start from Shelley Rudman.' | 7:44:38 | 7:44:43
What do you think it takes to be world-class at skeleton? | 7:44:43 | 7:44:46
I think you have to have a really good instinct. | 7:44:46 | 7:44:48
You need really good spatial awareness. | 7:44:48 | 7:44:50
You need to be quite strong, quick, powerful. | 7:44:50 | 7:44:53
And all of those components can make you | 7:44:53 | 7:44:55
the start of a good athlete. | 7:44:55 | 7:44:57
And if you are, say, ten years old perhaps, at home, thinking, | 7:44:57 | 7:45:00
"Skeleton looks brilliant!" | 7:45:00 | 7:45:01
Perhaps you see it at the Olympics and want to get involved, | 7:45:01 | 7:45:04
what advice would you have? | 7:45:04 | 7:45:05
Try lots of different sport. | 7:45:05 | 7:45:07
So speed sports, maybe balance sports, | 7:45:07 | 7:45:10
and try and build up their abilities that way. | 7:45:10 | 7:45:12
So lots of transferrable skills from other sports | 7:45:12 | 7:45:14
-that could in the future help you with skeleton? -Exactly, yeah. | 7:45:14 | 7:45:16
'This is going to be good from Shelley Rudman. | 7:45:16 | 7:45:19
'She will go into the lead, surely. | 7:45:19 | 7:45:20
'Big hit there but it doesn't matter, | 7:45:20 | 7:45:23
'she's in first place.' | 7:45:23 | 7:45:24
-Shelley, thanks so much for joining us. -Thank you. | 7:45:24 | 7:45:26
-And good luck for the rest of the season. -Thank you. | 7:45:26 | 7:45:29
But my challenge isn't to TALK about skeleton. | 7:45:29 | 7:45:31
So I'm heading to Igls Sliding Centre | 7:45:31 | 7:45:33
in Innsbruck, Austria, | 7:45:33 | 7:45:35
to link up with Team GB's development squad | 7:45:35 | 7:45:38
and make a high-speed run down the world-famous track. | 7:45:38 | 7:45:41
But before I'm allowed to slide, skeleton ice coach Mark Wood | 7:45:43 | 7:45:46
wants me to take in each bend and bump of the track | 7:45:46 | 7:45:50
and some important safety advice. | 7:45:50 | 7:45:52
You'll feel these little waves, nothing to worry about. | 7:45:52 | 7:45:55
You're going to feel it want to go. | 7:45:57 | 7:45:58
-That's OK, don't worry about it. -OK. -It's fine. | 7:45:58 | 7:46:02
Just making you aware of what could possibly go wrong. | 7:46:02 | 7:46:04
-There's a lot could possibly go right, as well. -Yeah, | 7:46:04 | 7:46:06
I appreciate that. | 7:46:06 | 7:46:08
One of Mark's coaching techniques | 7:46:08 | 7:46:10
is to encourage sliders to visualise the course in their minds, | 7:46:10 | 7:46:13
helping commit every twist and turn to memory. | 7:46:13 | 7:46:16
Big corner two... | 7:46:17 | 7:46:19
down, almost immediately into three. | 7:46:19 | 7:46:23
-Feel the first pressure, shoulder down. -Yeah. | 7:46:23 | 7:46:26
-Release as the shade comes off. -Yeah. | 7:46:26 | 7:46:28
Squeeze this pressure and then just let it come out. | 7:46:28 | 7:46:31
This is the major area. | 7:46:31 | 7:46:33
The key to get through.. down the track is right here. | 7:46:33 | 7:46:38
If I'm going to come off my sled, | 7:46:38 | 7:46:39
it'll probably happen here - | 7:46:39 | 7:46:41
corner nine. | 7:46:41 | 7:46:43
You've got to try and keep hold of the sled. | 7:46:44 | 7:46:47
If you lose the sled, push it away from you and then keep tight in. | 7:46:47 | 7:46:51
The reason we're pushing the sled away from us | 7:46:51 | 7:46:53
is so that it's accelerating and we're slowing down. | 7:46:53 | 7:46:55
If you don't get anything else on this apart from this, | 7:46:55 | 7:46:59
-that's all I'm really worried about, is this part. -OK. -All right? | 7:46:59 | 7:47:03
He's going to be nervous. | 7:47:04 | 7:47:05
I mean, he hasn't been on a sled for quite a while, right, | 7:47:05 | 7:47:08
and it's all going to be brand-new to him again. | 7:47:08 | 7:47:11
And you've got to imagine - | 7:47:11 | 7:47:12
you're two inches off the ice, your face is really, really close | 7:47:12 | 7:47:16
and you're going to be doing about 60mph. | 7:47:16 | 7:47:19
We can't guarantee anything. | 7:47:19 | 7:47:20
Once he's gone, he's on his own. | 7:47:20 | 7:47:22
And if anything goes wrong, he's got to get out of it himself. | 7:47:22 | 7:47:25
Not many people choose to take up this sport. | 7:47:25 | 7:47:28
It's fast, furious and dangerous, | 7:47:28 | 7:47:31
and that's exactly why it appealed to me. | 7:47:31 | 7:47:34
But at this moment in time, I'm not so sure. | 7:47:34 | 7:47:37
There's a huge part of me that's actually scared. | 7:47:39 | 7:47:42
I haven't done this for a very, very long time | 7:47:42 | 7:47:45
and just crossing that finish line is going to be an exhilaration | 7:47:45 | 7:47:49
that's going to be off the charts. | 7:47:49 | 7:47:51
But to be honest with you, number one is be safe. | 7:47:51 | 7:47:55
I can't think about that too much | 7:47:55 | 7:47:57
cos that actually does really make me scared. | 7:47:57 | 7:48:00
Now it's my turn. | 7:48:00 | 7:48:02
I'm about to go at the same speed as a car on the motorway, | 7:48:02 | 7:48:06
except I'm going face first, down the ice. | 7:48:06 | 7:48:09
After just a couple of hundred metres, | 7:48:14 | 7:48:16
I'm really picking up pace. | 7:48:16 | 7:48:17
Before I know it, | 7:48:23 | 7:48:24
I'm hurtling around the longest bend in the course. | 7:48:24 | 7:48:27
And once I'm clear of that, I'm approaching the danger corner - | 7:48:29 | 7:48:33
corner nine. | 7:48:33 | 7:48:34
And I'm through, on the sled in one piece. | 7:48:39 | 7:48:42
And now I'm on the home straight... | 7:48:47 | 7:48:49
and loving it! | 7:48:49 | 7:48:51
Oh, my goodness! | 7:48:51 | 7:48:53
Yes! | 7:48:55 | 7:48:57 | |
Oh, on the top of that run I was thinking to myself, | 7:49:00 | 7:49:04
"Am I going to do this? | 7:49:04 | 7:49:05
"Come on, Radzi! Come on, Radzi! Let's do it, let's do it." | 7:49:05 | 7:49:08
And I am so pleased I just did that. | 7:49:13 | 7:49:15
Oh, my goodness, my heart is absolutely pounding. | 7:49:16 | 7:49:19
I actually loved that. | 7:49:23 | 7:49:25
Oh, that was so good. | 7:49:25 | 7:49:28
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 7:49:34 | 7:49:38
Radzi, I like going fast, you know that. | 7:49:38 | 7:49:40
In a car, on a motorbike - no problem at all. | 7:49:40 | 7:49:42
But 2cm off the ground, on ice, that must be terrifying. | 7:49:42 | 7:49:45
Do you know what? If you do it, you'll get addicted. Trust me. | 7:49:45 | 7:49:48
It's so good! But I couldn't have done it without the help | 7:49:48 | 7:49:50
from British Skeleton and Mark Wood, so thank you so much. | 7:49:50 | 7:49:53
And also, a huge good luck to Dom Parsons, to Kristan Bromley, | 7:49:53 | 7:49:57
to Shelley Rudman and to Lizzy Yarnold. | 7:49:57 | 7:49:59
They're going to be competing for Team GB in skeleton. Good luck. | 7:49:59 | 7:50:02
I'd love to be able to give you a gold medal cos you deserve one | 7:50:02 | 7:50:04
but I don't have any. I have biscuits that look like medals. | 7:50:04 | 7:50:07
-Good enough for me. -Let's go and make them. | 7:50:07 | 7:50:09
-Hello, guys. How are we? ALL: -Good. -We're good? | 7:50:09 | 7:50:11
We've got Nate, Brady, Scott and Lewis. Welcome to the show. | 7:50:11 | 7:50:14
Now, we're going to be talking about the Winter Olympics | 7:50:14 | 7:50:16
cos it all kicks off tomorrow. | 7:50:16 | 7:50:17
So favourite sports? What do you like? | 7:50:17 | 7:50:19
-Snowboarding. -Freestyle snowboarding. | 7:50:19 | 7:50:21
-I can tell you're a freestyler. -Slopestyle and bobsleighing. | 7:50:21 | 7:50:24
-Yeah, bobsleigh. -Slopestyle and bobsleigh. | 7:50:24 | 7:50:26
And if you could compete in any of these sports, | 7:50:26 | 7:50:28
-you'd want a medal, wouldn't you? ALL: -Yeah. -We're going to make some. | 7:50:28 | 7:50:31
Take a look at the cushion of joy. | 7:50:31 | 7:50:32
It's got a gold, silver and a bronze on it. | 7:50:32 | 7:50:34
-We're all going for gold, let's be honest. -Yeah. -Gold! | 7:50:34 | 7:50:37
It's dead easy to make these. | 7:50:37 | 7:50:38
They're just biscuits that have been decorated in a pretty way. | 7:50:38 | 7:50:41
All you've got to do is go to the website... | 7:50:41 | 7:50:43
You'll find everything you need for this make on there. | 7:50:43 | 7:50:45
But don't go just yet, cos I've got to show you how to make 'em. | 7:50:45 | 7:50:48
We're going to preheat the oven at 150. | 7:50:48 | 7:50:50
That's gas mark 2 for those of you that have an oven from the '70s. | 7:50:50 | 7:50:53
OK, butter and sugar go into a bowl, just like that. | 7:50:53 | 7:50:56
And then what've got to do is mix them. So, boys, mix away. | 7:50:56 | 7:50:59
It's all yours. And while you're doing that, | 7:50:59 | 7:51:01
let's talk about your photograph, Brady. | 7:51:01 | 7:51:03
Tell us more about this. | 7:51:03 | 7:51:05
Well, we were at a competition in Canada | 7:51:05 | 7:51:08
and we were just waiting for my run. | 7:51:08 | 7:51:11
-And you just thought you'd just pose for a photo? -Yeah. | 7:51:11 | 7:51:13
It's one of those moments | 7:51:13 | 7:51:15
-where you want to get your best side on film for ever. I like it. -Yeah. | 7:51:15 | 7:51:17
Don't forget to start decorating these, by the way. | 7:51:17 | 7:51:20
We've got glittery pens, silver balls, gold balls, glitter, | 7:51:20 | 7:51:23
you've got icing. Just go for it. | 7:51:23 | 7:51:24
Once you've mixed your butter and your sugar... | 7:51:24 | 7:51:26
Fabulous job, boys. ..you need to put your flour into it. | 7:51:26 | 7:51:29
Save a bit of flour cos you want to put that on the table | 7:51:29 | 7:51:31
so you call roll the dough out in a minute. | 7:51:31 | 7:51:33
All the measurements for this are on the website, by the way. | 7:51:33 | 7:51:36
So now, I think, boys, you've been far too clean. | 7:51:36 | 7:51:38
Get your hands in there. Give me that. | 7:51:38 | 7:51:40
Go for it! Make your dough. | 7:51:40 | 7:51:42
And I need to come down there if I can, Lewis. | 7:51:42 | 7:51:44
You want to keep mixing that for as long as you can, | 7:51:44 | 7:51:47
till it starts to look something like this - | 7:51:47 | 7:51:49
a dough ball. | 7:51:49 | 7:51:51
Oh, yeah! I like this. | 7:51:51 | 7:51:52
Now, lots of flour on the table. | 7:51:52 | 7:51:55
Of course we've all washed our hands, before you ask. | 7:51:55 | 7:51:57
All right. | 7:51:59 | 7:52:00
Flour on the rolling pin. Where's me rolling pin? | 7:52:02 | 7:52:04
Excuse me, boys. Thank you. | 7:52:04 | 7:52:07
I need some of that flour off there. | 7:52:07 | 7:52:09
The reason you're doing the flour on the rolling pin and the table | 7:52:09 | 7:52:12
is cos you do not want it to stick to the table, | 7:52:12 | 7:52:14
like that. | 7:52:14 | 7:52:16
I'm showing you how not to do it! | 7:52:16 | 7:52:18
OK. So, as you can see here, | 7:52:18 | 7:52:20
putting flour down first means that your dough | 7:52:20 | 7:52:23
will not stick to the table or the roller | 7:52:23 | 7:52:26
and that is very important to remember that, OK?. | 7:52:26 | 7:52:28
Nobody wants flour and dough stuck to their rolling pin. | 7:52:28 | 7:52:31
So once you've rolled it out into a nice, flat, circular, | 7:52:31 | 7:52:36
1cm thin bit of dough, | 7:52:36 | 7:52:39
you need to cut it out. | 7:52:39 | 7:52:41
And here you can use a cookie cutter if you want to. | 7:52:41 | 7:52:44
Really simple to do. | 7:52:44 | 7:52:45
If you haven't got one of those, you can use a cup. | 7:52:45 | 7:52:48
Just turn it upside down and cut round it. It's dead easy. | 7:52:48 | 7:52:51
Now you also need to make a little... How are you doing, boys? | 7:52:51 | 7:52:54
You look like you're getting tired. | 7:52:54 | 7:52:55
I'm only making you do it cos I didn't want to. | 7:52:55 | 7:52:57
You're doing a great job. | 7:52:57 | 7:52:59
You need to make a little hole for your ribbon to go through. | 7:52:59 | 7:53:01
To do that, you can use the end of a paintbrush, like that. | 7:53:01 | 7:53:05
Just go through | 7:53:05 | 7:53:07
and then chuck it on your trays, which I'm going to do now. | 7:53:07 | 7:53:10
Now make sure you grease the baking tray as well, | 7:53:10 | 7:53:12
cos we don't want anything else sticking! | 7:53:12 | 7:53:14
And you can just add to the other cookies on there. | 7:53:14 | 7:53:17
It's dead easy. | 7:53:17 | 7:53:19
And while we're doing this, | 7:53:19 | 7:53:20
let's talk about Scott's amazing photograph. | 7:53:20 | 7:53:22
Have you seen this? This is amazing. Scott, talk us through it. | 7:53:22 | 7:53:25
Well, it was at an event at Chill Factore. | 7:53:25 | 7:53:29
And yeah, I love backflips and front flips | 7:53:29 | 7:53:31
so I decided to do that flip. | 7:53:31 | 7:53:33
And they were just dead easy to do. | 7:53:33 | 7:53:35
You thought you'd pose and do a back flip, why not? | 7:53:35 | 7:53:37
I understand. Now, don't forget our oven has been preheated to 150. | 7:53:37 | 7:53:41
Chuck the ones on top that you're going to be cooking, | 7:53:41 | 7:53:44
And here's some somebody else made earlier. | 7:53:44 | 7:53:46
Don't forget these are going to be hot when you take them out, | 7:53:46 | 7:53:48
so make sure you leave them to cool. Excuse me, hot tray coming through. | 7:53:48 | 7:53:51
There you go. How are yours getting on? | 7:53:51 | 7:53:53
You're decorating them with glittery pens. | 7:53:53 | 7:53:55
What style are we going for? Tell me. | 7:53:55 | 7:53:57
-I'm going for a snowboarder. -Yeah. | 7:53:57 | 7:54:00
You could do one like Scott, back flipping. That'd be wicked! | 7:54:00 | 7:54:03
-How about you, Brady? -A mountain. -A mountain? | 7:54:03 | 7:54:05
Well, there's icing sugar there, | 7:54:05 | 7:54:07
-you could use that as snow on top. -Yeah. -Go for it. | 7:54:07 | 7:54:09
There's a great thing about these glitter pens | 7:54:09 | 7:54:11
that not many people know, | 7:54:11 | 7:54:12
you can't tell what flavour they are. | 7:54:12 | 7:54:14
Close your eyes and put your hand over your mouth, | 7:54:14 | 7:54:16
you've got to tell me what flavour you think this is. | 7:54:16 | 7:54:19
What flavour is that? Can you tell? | 7:54:19 | 7:54:21
-Any idea? -Banana. -Banana! | 7:54:21 | 7:54:23
Well done, you got it right. Congratulations. | 7:54:23 | 7:54:25
-So once you have decorated them... What, you've got a little... -Yeah. | 7:54:25 | 7:54:29
..chuck the ribbon through the hole in your now-cooked biscuit | 7:54:29 | 7:54:32
and there you have it. | 7:54:32 | 7:54:34
As long as you decorate it the way that you want, | 7:54:34 | 7:54:36
which is gold, silver, bronze or any kind of sparkly design, | 7:54:36 | 7:54:39
everyone's going to be happy. | 7:54:39 | 7:54:40
There you go. All the details are on the website. | 7:54:40 | 7:54:42
Head over there and have a look for yourself. | 7:54:42 | 7:54:45

Stop messing around, you lot! | 7:55:12 | 7:55:14
It does not fit round my neck, does it? | 7:55:14 | 7:55:17
-There's dough everywhere! -Thank you. -Check out the muscle in your neck! | 7:55:17 | 7:55:20
-I'll just hold it, let's pretend I'm not here. -Let's roll with it. | 7:55:20 | 7:55:23
-Look at this big badge wall, by the way! -It's packed. Caked! | 7:55:23 | 7:55:26
Caked like this medal is in glitter, | 7:55:26 | 7:55:28
-which is actually pouring down. -LOUD RUSTLING | 7:55:28 | 7:55:31
Look at this one, now. This is from Annabel. | 7:55:31 | 7:55:33
-Let me move that. We can't hear your beautiful voice. -Thank you. | 7:55:33 | 7:55:36
-It was good while it lasted! -Hopefully you can hear me now. | 7:55:36 | 7:55:38
This is... Come and stand here and point to that on there. | 7:55:38 | 7:55:41
That's from Annabel from Surrey and that's the Winter Olympics. | 7:55:41 | 7:55:43
-I love that. -But my favourite has to be from Ailsa. | 7:55:43 | 7:55:46
Now, if you read that there, that's a door hanger. It says, | 7:55:46 | 7:55:49
"Do not disturb, I am watching Blue Peter." | 7:55:49 | 7:55:51
-Quite right. -Rightly so, between 5:30 and 6 on Thursday on CBBC. | 7:55:51 | 7:55:54
But when you're not doing that, | 7:55:54 | 7:55:56
"Come in for some epic Blue Peter fun." | 7:55:56 | 7:55:58
-Love it, Ailsa! -That's what we're doing now - | 7:55:58 | 7:56:00
epic Blue Peter fun, I like to call this. | 7:56:00 | 7:56:02
And look at this, it's from Hannah and Nicole. | 7:56:02 | 7:56:04
They sent in a little memory board. | 7:56:04 | 7:56:06
You've got the dogs on there. You've got Radzi being gunged, | 7:56:06 | 7:56:09
me jumping off a pier, Chris Hadfield. | 7:56:09 | 7:56:11
It's looking brill. Thank you so much for that. | 7:56:11 | 7:56:13
And last but not least, this is from Lily. | 7:56:13 | 7:56:16
Have a look at it! | 7:56:16 | 7:56:17

Hiya. How are you doing? | 7:56:29 | 7:56:30
Right then, let's talk about what you've sent us today. | 7:56:30 | 7:56:33
We're asking you to get in touch | 7:56:33 | 7:56:34
and tell us what Winter Olympic sport you would invent. | 7:56:34 | 7:56:37
Lewis, do you want to read this one? It's a good one. | 7:56:37 | 7:56:39
Snow cycle. You have to cycle on the snow, in the cold. | 7:56:39 | 7:56:43
It's quite a nice one. It's from topazathleticstarfish. | 7:56:43 | 7:56:45
A bike on the snow, I like that one. | 7:56:45 | 7:56:47
Absolutely. | 7:56:47 | 7:56:48
And why don't you read that one? Go for it. | 7:56:48 | 7:56:50
"If I could invent a snow sport, I would invent hula-skate, | 7:56:50 | 7:56:54
"where you have to ice skate..." | 7:56:54 | 7:56:56
-That sounds difficult, doesn't it? -"..and hula hoop at the same time." | 7:56:56 | 7:56:59
You'd be wiggling everything. That's from topazviolinangel. | 7:56:59 | 7:57:02
-Thank you for that. -Sapphirecrumpetrockstar - | 7:57:02 | 7:57:04
this is really simple but it works. | 7:57:04 | 7:57:05
-Synchronised snowboarding. -Like it. -I like that a lot. | 7:57:05 | 7:57:09
Sepiapepperyturkey... These names are getting better. | 7:57:09 | 7:57:11
..had a similar thought - freestyle basketting. | 7:57:11 | 7:57:14
-I like that one. -It's very popular already! | 7:57:14 | 7:57:17
And then last but not least, we've got purpleglowingsinger says, | 7:57:17 | 7:57:20
"Snow carting, a mix between carting and snowboarding." | 7:57:20 | 7:57:24
-Oh, that sounds quite fun. -Yeah. | 7:57:24 | 7:57:26
Thank you so much for getting in touch | 7:57:26 | 7:57:27
and leaving your comments for us. If you are on the website, | 7:57:27 | 7:57:30
head over there and check out Malorie Blackman's section. | 7:57:30 | 7:57:32
She's an amazing person, we've known her for a long time. | 7:57:32 | 7:57:35
And you can ask her any questions. | 7:57:35 | 7:57:36
Lindsey's going to meet her and ask her your questions. Get involved. | 7:57:36 | 7:57:39
That's just about all we've got time for this week. | 7:57:39 | 7:57:42
But fear not, my friends, as next week we've got all this... | 7:57:42 | 7:57:45
That's right, I'm going to be combining street art and origami | 7:57:45 | 7:57:48
-in Paris. -Yes, that's right, Lindsey. | 7:57:48 | 7:57:51
And also, have you ever wanted to fly 2,000 feet in the air | 7:57:51 | 7:57:54
in an aircraft with no engine? | 7:57:54 | 7:57:55
16-year-old Alex is doing that himself and that's just his hobby. | 7:57:55 | 7:57:58
It's amazing. | 7:57:58 | 7:57:59
And I'm going to be showing you how to make this. | 7:57:59 | 7:58:01
It is part card, part box, part perfect Valentine's present! | 7:58:01 | 7:58:05
And it doesn't open but it does now! Look at that. It's very good. | 7:58:05 | 7:58:07
It's beautiful. Thank you for getting in touch. | 7:58:07 | 7:58:10

-Scott, do a back flip. -Quick! -No, don't! -Oh, no, don't! | 7:58:12 | 7:58:15
Can you imagine? I'd get told off! | 7:58:15 | 7:58:18 |
